damiloladuke: A Lagos State High Court has ordered the writer/publisher of Our Daily Manna, Rev Chris Kwakpovwe and the Registered Trustees of the Chapel of Liberty Church to pay a lawyer, Tamara Egbedi, N9, 454,000, for negligence.
According to TheNation, Egbedi had gone to court after she lost seven teeth and suffered other injuries when she fell into an uncovered concrete gutter running in between the seats during an anointing service organised by Kwakpovwe at the National Stadium in Lagos in 2010.
Delivering judgement in suit no. LD/359/2011, Justice SBA Candide Johnson said that from the evidence adduced by the parties, it was clear that Ms. Tamara suffered injuries at the venue while attending the crusade.
“It is difficult not to observe that for the Defendants who put themselves forward as spiritual shepherds of their sheep that they appear to have demonstrated scant care and concern for victims of their January 2010 spiritual crusade and have likewise by the letter of their lawyers (Exhibit F) dared this Claimant to go to Court, the Defendants appear to have elected carnal warfare over spiritual warfare thus leaving it to the Courts of Law to intervene,” he said.
Continuing, the judge said:
“It is virtually ridiculous for Rev. Dr. Chris E. Kwakpovwe to invite the general public and the Claimant to a programme which they expected to and which “recorded a huge attendance” and then without any remorse or conscience, argue that they only rented space at the National Stadium so he and his religious ministry owed no duty of care or concern for the welfare and safety of the guests they had invited to their own spiritual “party” or event organized by their church.
It is this type of reckless impunity and consciencelessness that makes many people complain about callousness and wickedness in Nigeria.”
She said she informed Rev. Kwakpovwe at the end of the service. She said the defendants denied liability and insinuated that her threat to go to court smacked of gold digging and expressed readiness to “meet you in court.”

Ecstasy154: An Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has closed the case of a former Peoples Democratic Party spokesperson, Olisa Metuh, in his absence.
Mr Metuh is facing trial for alleged diversion of N400 million from the office of the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.
His is being tried alongside his company, Dextra investment.
Mr Metuh fell while proceeding to the dock on May 21 and has not appeared in court since that day. His lawyer, Emeka Etiaba, had asked the court to adjourn the matter, following the incident, adding that the first defendant required time to recover from his ill-health.
Mr Metuh was diagnosed as having spinal cord injuries, a development which reportedly worsened after he fell from a chair during a meeting of his party members three months after his trial began in April, 2016.
Mr Metuh, who first appeared on a stretcher in February, has also requested the leave of court to travel abroad for medication.
Following Mr Metuh’s fall on May, 21, Mr Etiaba indicated his decision to recuse himself from the matter after the judge, Okon Abang, decided to continue the trial with Mr Metuh lying on the floor.
Mr Etiaba’s request to withdraw was, however, refused by the court which described it as an attempt to delay the trial.
Mr Etiaba also repeated the request for a long adjournment on May 22, accusing the judge of favouritism.
The court, on May 23, overruled Mr Etiaba’s request for the long adjournment after Mr Abang declared that Mr Metuh’s fall was a mischievous ploy to delay the trial and ”a blatant disregard for court orders”.
After the ruling on May 23, Mr Etiaba has not appeared in court.
On Friday, the court completed its hearing of the testimonies from the 11th witness for the first defendant and discharged the witness, after ruling that Mr Etiaba has relinquished his rights to re-examine the witness.
“The first defendant on January 19 filed for an adjournment to call additional witnesses. On February, 20 the court said it would not grant further adjournment to allow the first defendant present his witnesses. The proposed witnesses shall be in court at all times.
“The first defendant’s counsel is not in court. Again there is no application from the first defendant for an adjournment. No excuse was given. In fact, it is an independent decision by the first defendant’s counsel not to appear in court,” Mr Abang said.
Citing a previous Supreme Court decision, Mr Abang said the apex court had ruled that: ”where no excuse is offered by a counsel, no adjournment should be granted.”
“The first defendant’s counsel abandoned proceedings,” Mr Abang ruled.
The judge further said Mr Etiaba himself would not have succeeded in propelling the court to grant an adjournment.
“Even if the first defendant’s counsel was in court, it would have been an uphill task. It would have been easier for the first defendant’s counsel to lay claim to becoming pregnant, than for him to seek an adjournment on the matter.
“The case of the first defendant is hereby closed.”
The court also addressed a legal representative of Channels Television, Kelechi Nwaiwu, on the allegations made against the station and a defence counsel, by the prosecution.
Mr Nwaiwu told the court that he had come with a copy of a programme reportedly aired on channels where the said allegation took place.
Mr Abang subsequently adjourned the matter saying the court will entertain testimonies from the second defence witness on July 2.

A lady has called out her husband on Twitter after he made a derogatory statement about women who miscarry their babies.
According to him, men can't take heartbreak from the death of their child, so a woman should prove it if she really wants to be a mum.
His wife didn't find the statement funny and took to Twitter to slam him.
Read the man's tweet below...
"You have a miscarriage on a man and he start looking at you differently.. he start looking at you more as a murderer of his child and less as the woman of his dreams.. you become irresponsible to his precious gems. Men can’t take too much heartbreak..you wanna be a mom prove it"
His wife replied;
"@PastorGambit as YOUR wife that was very low! We all know you troll a lot but that right there was not cool at all. You gotta do better smh."
He has now deleted the tweet and apologized. See below...

DONSMITH123: The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has charged President Muhammadu Buhari to end his blame game and use of hate language against past leaders as cover for his poor performance, the economic hardship and the escalated insecurity his administration has caused Nigerians despite ample resources at their disposal.
In a statement on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the opposition party said: “It is sad that President Buhari does not have a single development project initiated and implemented by his administration in any part of the country in the last three years.
“He has also failed to fulfil the littlest of his 2015 campaign promises through which Nigerians were deceived to vote him into office.
“Now that he has failed, one wonders what other false promises the Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) will anchor their 2019 campaign and elections.
“It is tragic that instead of being remorseful, the Buhari Presidency finds it convenient to engage in endless blame game, shameful attempts to appropriate PDP projects and programmes, as well as dishing out of false performance indices ahead of its three years anniversary on May 29.
“Worst still, President Buhari finds solace in commissioning projects executed by other leaders, like his humiliating commissioning of a regular bus station constructed by the Lagos state government and a borehole in Jigawa State, which show crass failure of governance.
“It is embarrassing that whenever our President visits other world leaders, he would have nothing to present but mere rhetoric from a prepared speech, while other leaders proudly reel out their achievements.
“Nigerians recalled that last March, our nation was embarrassed when the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, cheerfully reeled out his achievements under one year in office, including his farming for job initiative, the senior high school free education, the one district-one factory projects, one village-one dam project among others, only for President Buhari to present an empty score card when it was his turn to speak.
“Last month, Nigerians witnessed another international embarrassment when President Buhari could not present any development project before United States President Donald Trump, who made his nation proud by showcasing his achievements and the potentials of his country.
“Nigerians can recall President Buhari’s poor showing at the 2018 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in London, where his only achievement was to further demarket our nation by declaring our youths as lazy and lovers of freebies.
“President Buhari and his handlers must know that Nigerians are tired of their ineptitude and blame game. The beauty of democracy is that it affords the citizens the inalienable right to remove any government that does not effectively govern and this is the inevitable end of the APC, come 2019. “
Buhari failed, APC failed, nd PDP also failed us..... stop condemning APC it still doesn't make u any beta, it only makes us remember wat APC said wen u guys were ruling us. imagine pot calling kettle black. mumulity at its peak.

The leadership of a political pressure group founded by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the Coalition for Nigerian Movement, CNM, Thursday, announced its fusion into African Democratic Congress, ADC.
This is with a view to forming a formidable force to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC in 2019 poll.
It was resolved that with the understanding of like minded persons and organizations across the country, Nigeria will be rescued, and that the elections of 2018 and 2019 will be used to cure the curse and afflictions of failed leadership and perpetual underdevelopment.
A Co-Convener of CNM, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who made the pronouncement at a world press conference in Abuja, said with this development, the Coalition for Nigerian Movement, CNM, has ceased to exist, having formally collapsed into the political party.
He said, the decision to move in to African Democratic Congress therefore, is an appreciation of the progressive essence of the party and its untainted existence on the terrain of our nation’s politics. The former military administrator of Lagos state, who regretted the worsening state of things in the country, added, “We have said it before and we are stating it here again that the current state of despair and despondency in our dear country is an ill wind. “It is foreboding and can only lead to a conflagration.
Between January when CNM was formed and now, can we say that the story of Nigeria has changed for the better? Have things not worsened at all levels? According to him, “I thank all of you for being here today. You will all recall that in January this year, the Coalition for Nigeria Movement, CNM, was formed by some of us across the country as a political platform to create a new generation of leaders for our country. “Between that time and today, a lot of grounds has been covered in achieving the set goals. One of such is what we are doing here today – the formal fusing of – our movement into the African Democratic Congress.
“Beyond what we are doing here today, we put our countrymen and women, old and young, on notice that they should expect more from us; that they should expect deepened political engagements across platforms in the coming days and weeks. In other words, this is just the first in a multi layered action plan to give back the country to its much deprived people.
“As we stated in January during the launch of the CNM, we are taking on this task not minding the inconveniences and other expected and unexpected consequences of our efforts at reinventing the country. “We admit that structural inadequacies and failure of leadership have robbed our country of greatness. We also note that a future of greatness for Nigeria will only be birthed by a new generation of youthful leaders with fresh ideas and knowledge of what it takes to govern a 21 st century nation.
“This gathering here today is a proof that the modest efforts at waking up the vast majority of our people to for once, take their destiny in their hands as demanded by the constitution are bearing fruits already. Our constitution guarantees all Nigerians their fundamental human rights, including freedom of association and the right to hold political views.
“The decision to move in to African Democratic Congress therefore, is an appreciation of the progressive essence of the party and its untainted existence on the terrain of our nation’s politics. “While I on behalf of the leadership and the over three million members of the CNM congratulate ADC as the vehicle for national reinvention, I urge us to let us know that the task ahead is an arduous one that needs further strengthening of the forces of change. What I am saying is that we should be open to new engagements and alliances being forged and crystallizing across the country.”
Oyinlola, who was also a former Osun state Governor stressed further that, “We should remain committed to the use of the tools of democracy to recreate a ·Nigeria that will truly serve all, irrespective of religion, tribe or socio ‘economic status. “We have said it before and we are stating it here again that the current state of despair and despondency in our dear country is an ill wind.
“ It is foreboding and can only lead to a conflagration. Between January ‘when CNM was formed and now, can we say that the story of Nigeria has changed for the better? Have things not worsened at all levels? “Indeed, every one of us who has been in power before at whatever level may have a share of the blame for the state of the nation. That fact, however, will not disqualify us from being part of, and indeed, stand at the vanguard of finding a lasting solution to this problem.
“Indeed, those who have seen it all but with the right perspective are better placed to bring in knowledgeable young men and women to come and reinvent the country for the challenges of the future. “ADC and other like- minded political parties should join other patriots in democratically building and enthroning a new set of youthful, knowledgeable and goal- oriented leadership for this country. We believe, therefore, that through right engagements and fundamental reordering of the affairs of our nation, our country will be out of the woods.
Nigerians are a very resilient people. They are great optimists. “They have invested so much trust and hope in our democratic infrastructure with very miserable returns, so far. As I stated during the launch of the CNM our country must not continue to be condemned to a four yearly ritual of voting without results.
“To get positive results, therefore, we must get right the choice of leadership. But the apple does not fall far from its tree. Only credible, positive platforms can produce positive results. A tree conceived and nurtured in lies can only bear imaginary fruits.
Every government has ideas and programmes – most times packaged in flowery prose. “The deficit in leadership is noticed at the point of implementation of the ideas and policies. ADC from its well enunciated policies and Programmes is well placed to make democracy work for the people. “ADC is properly placed to join other patriots in moving Nigerians in all the wards, the 774 local governments and the 36 states to join hands to make our country truly great. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, we have a job to do.
“The destiny of Nigeria is not to remain forever in crisis and in the doldrums. As the CNM takes this momentous step of coalescing into ADC as a vital step in building a national consensus to reconstruct the country, we assure all Nigerians with there support. “And the understanding of like minded persons and organizations across the country, Nigeria will be rescued.
God willing the elections of 2018 and 2019 will be used to cure the curse and afflictions of failed leadership and perpetual underdevelopment.” In his remarks, the founding National Chairman of African Democratic Congress, ADC, Chief Ralphs Nwosu described the fusion as the dawn of great Nigeria project; Leading with the right ethical Compass. Chief Nwosu said, “Nation building could be a very daunting exercise. But with good and committed leaders, the journey could be much easier.
I invite all Nigerians to have very deep reflection concerning our Nation Nigeria, and its 100 years of Nationhood.” According to him, “Today our great country with 200 million population is in a dysfunctional state. Our biggest resources in human capacity and diversity seem to be weighing us down and tearing us apart. “However, I do not want to dwell on our failings.
I want to assure you all that we the African Democratic Congress ADC working with Coalition [or Nigeria Movement CNlM, and many strategic coalition partners, involving a Rainbow coalition of Political parties, civil societies, labor and trade.” unions, and well-meaning eminent Nigerians are determined to reframe the narratives about Nigeria.
“We have worked tirelessly to put this coalition together. Many important stakeholders helped to guide our party. I wish to specially mention President Oluscgun Obasanjo for his tireless support. His word “I am not perfect, but 1 enjoin you to join me in having deep passion and unshakable commitment for Nigeria”. “This will guide this new ADC always.
The formal launch of our new ADC party will take place so. I wish to enjoin all of us to embrace our philosophy of role modelling leadership as a way to building the new Nigeria and a greater Africa. “In everything we do, to be successful, we must remain true to ourselves. Deep reflection helps leaders to clear their heads, clarify their path to be able to focus purposefully, for each party involved; we expect true and committed engagement to the Nigeria Project.”

tommykiwi: Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide, has slammed President Muhammadu Buhari for saying Nigerian youths should seize opportunities in agriculture to uplift their standards of living.
Recall that the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, said Buhari made the call at a meeting with the Chief Executive Officers of six American agricultural companies and their Nigerian counterparts in Washington DC.
He said, “Our youths, the ones who have gone to school and even those that have not, should go to the farm, to earn respect for themselves.
“Agriculture is providing jobs for millions of our citizens and we are doing well towards the attainment of food security and jobs.
“The media may not appreciate the work we are doing but we will shock them by the success we are recording.’’
However, reacting through his Twitter handle on Wednesday, Omokri said Buhari was a clueless President for asking Nigerian youths to go and farm to earn his respect.
He wrote: “President Buhari asked Nigerian youths to go to the farm to earn his respect.
“When they go to farm and are killed by killer herdsmen, is it his condolence message they will earn? What a clueless President! Youths are not farming because of laziness. They are afraid of herdsmen!”.

I mean has a person holding a position has the one he is holding, is he meant to be embarrassing us like that? He deserves all what he is getting and that melo drama he is performing, pretending to be unwell, is just another level of his stupidity. Letting dem push u around on a stretcher really? What sickness is he really suffering from? Asthma of the leg? Cos u can't be on a coma without oxygen mask and which hospital will let them push u around and stress u more if truly ur life is 50/50(coma) so don't feel pity for him or yaya or any useless politician. Let them play their big brother reality drams show in peace while u sit and watch them display their stupidity.. We don't need to fall for their cheap cry for attention all the time mehn

my bro wat u said is actually correct but my problem wit d issue nw is why Dino? 99.5% of our politicians are corrupt if not 100 sef. d reason y dis dudes are tryna bring him down is b'cos his not playing by their rules anymore. I know so many useless politicians dat ve Don worse but their issue is not treated d why dino's own is bin treated. no present Nigerian politicians deserves our support. yes! but they shld remove d spec in their eyes b4 removing d dirts in odas. make dem just free Dino joor since patience, deziani, nd d rest could go free why is his own any different
