Culture / *25 Years Of Vacant Orimolusi Stool* by tonybank01: 9:21am On May 25, 2019 |
*25 YEARS OF VACANT ORIMOLUSI STOOL* May 20, 2019 marks exactly 25th year the ancient Orimolusi traditional stool has remained unoccupied since the last custodian joined the ancestors in 1994. Looking down the lane, it is evident that this period has left the town in so much mystery, incapacitated the intellectuals and subjected the entire citizens both home and diasporas to objects of mockery. Being the longest ever recorded interregnum in the history of Orimolusi kingdom, it is reviewed to have invoked more damages to the prestige of the town than ever before culturally, politically and economically. Before now, the kingdom was a revered institution, which held dignity in the district domains and was worshipped and adorned with charismatic appellations. In the past, at the mention of ORIMOLUSI, every other paved way for *ERIN NLA TI N GBA IDOBALE OBA.* Infact, at a time, one of the previous occupiers of the sacred throne had presided over Ijebuland as the Chairman of Ijebu Divisional Council of traditional rulers. What could be great than this? *Ha ha, ERIN KII SE EGBE AMOTEKUN.* Even during the June 12 election campaign of the then SDP presidential aspirant, Chief MKO Abiola, Ijebu Igbo was so much revered as one among the others forefront towns that must not be neglected during visitation due to the caliber of personalities the town had produced politically, academically and influentially. But looking back today, no doubt that the story has changed bitterly. For this reason it is asked that today, where is that same prestige? No doubt the 25 years vacancy has murdered all the prestige, morals and agitations subjecting the kingdom to both political and traditional marginalization and relegation. During these years of unwarranted stagnation as it affects major developments, the vacancy has subjected the town to lack of leadership to oversee the customs and traditions of the kingdom, subjecting the deities of the land to be perpetually famished. The one time pride of the town, our royal edifice that had one time become a subject of command for great honour and attraction is now left dilapidated and rotting away in our eyes. Even, the revered stool the other neigbouring communities looked up to in the traditional hierarchy of Ijebuland in the past has become so relegated that it is now historically equated to the likes of lesser Obas. What an insult! Obviously, Ijebu Igbo is a kingdom of high repute, endowed with enviable mineral, capital and human resources among her contemporaries in Ijebuland but unfortunately, the aftermath of the previous interregnums had deprived the entity the due recognition and promotion in all ramifications. Ijebu Igbo kingdom constitutes of fifteen entities and about other 150 villages that ORIMOLUSI rules over. These entities include Oke-Sopen, Ojowo, Atikori, Oke-Agbo, Japara, Agunboye, Asigidi, Odo Alamo, Aparaki, Imope, Apoje, Abeku and Aiyesan. All these components of the kingdom have the history of their respective settlements. But unfortunately, all these have been left un-catered for, deprived of due government stipends (dividends) due to the interregnum. There had been situations where one or two of the communities had envisaged dissociating self from Orimolusi kingdom due to the aftermath of the interregnum that is traditionally affecting them. It is their agitations that their likes in hierarchy had been promoted and enlisted in Local government payroll as Baales. In Yoruba land, there are different categories of monarchs: the ones who preside over clans with networks of related towns, where each of the towns has its own Oba e.g Akarigbo, the hierarchy in which Orimolusi ought to belong, but due to lack of vision that had been characterized with ruling families and indifferent posture of the elite mindset in dissociating selves from traditional matters, the kingdom remains where it is today. Though Oba Adeboye as Ijebu Divisional Council Chairman strived to ensure Orimolusi granted the autonomy, but unfortunately death broke the cord. Are we going to continue like this? In Orimolusi Kingdom, it is pertinent to ask where we are coming from and where we envision to be. To leave a high profiled traditional throne unoccupied for 25 years and no alternative leadership apparatus put in place for the purpose of cultural and infrastructural development, this calls for concerns perhaps our love for the town is just the game of lips. In consequence to this challenge, the endowed natural resources of the land are been carted away unchallenged, several institutional prides of the town are going into extinction and our hierarchical position is been contested in the comity of Ijebu traditional rulers. The boundary is being encroached by the neigbouring communities. Should we fold arms and expect the deities to fight for themselves. This is a clarion appeal to all concern to rise for the revival of the prestige and glory of the kingdom. In the absence of the paramount ruler, the kingdom can match forward if all the necessary apparatus is put in place. The vacuum is being felt as evident in the infrastructural dilapidations all around the town. A case study is the Technical College in Ijebu Igbo that is already about to be collapsed. Recently, the Provost of the school cried out to the Elders with appeal to salvage the school from total extinction. A lot of challenges before the school to the extent there is proposal for the school to be closed. This is our heritage and our pride. It must be supported, promoted and developed. The five districts traditional rulers of Ijebu Igbo kingdom should put heads together. This is a case of a father who begets five children. Will the children allow their father’s heritage to collapse? Lets set aside all historical differences and collectively set a workforce to carry the cross. In a couple of days, there shall be transition of power and a new Ogun State governor will take over. OMO ORIMOLUSI OOOO, are we going to continue in same paradigm? *OSI IJEBU IGBO A GBE DEDE ENI O*

Culture / ijebu Igbo 25 Years Of Vacant Orimolusi Stool* by tonybank01: 1:39pm On May 24, 2019 |
*25 YEARS OF VACANT ORIMOLUSI STOOL* May 20, 2019 marks exactly 25th year the ancient Orimolusi traditional stool has remained unoccupied since the last custodian joined the ancestors in 1994. Culture / Monarchs Should Head Local Government – Ogoga Of Ikere by tonybank01: 10:41am On Apr 27, 2019 |
There are fears that agitation for constitutional role for traditional rulers may make them political. What are your thoughts on this? In everything, I think we have to go back to history. From the beginning, before the colonialists came, every kingdom or community was governed and administered by the king. When the colonialists came, they realised that to get to the people and pass a message, they had to go through the traditional rulers. That was when they had the indirect rule through the obas. Following that, in the western region, there was the House of Chiefs; notable obas were part of that House. It was like another legislative arm where they put heads together to advise the government. When you look at that period where there was peace, progress with good suggestions, input from the obas, things were going well. I believe it is not right to say that if a platform is created for the obas, wherein suggestions can be made into the policies of government, that the obas will become political. They did not become political in those days; I don’t think any oba will want to become a politician. For instance, if you have 10 political parties in your town, you are the father of everyone. Today, what we do is that obas will give advice; sometimes, it is not even heard. I believe it is much better to create a platform where government can have direct link and that is open and transparent to the public. I think it is wrong to say that because of that, they will become political. These days, if there is any issue, it is the obas that politicians will run to first, regardless of which political party they belong. In every state, there is the council of traditional rulers which is advisory to the government on chieftaincy and related matters. A traditional ruler can’t be partisan. If there is a government in power, the monarch must support it by way of advice and help to pass the policies of the government to their people. Were monarchs really involved in the running of local governments? Monarchs were the heads of local governments before. These days, the calibre of people becoming monarchs is intimidating. You have lawyers, judges, PhD holders, medical doctors, engineers, architects, accountants, diplomats and other quality people from all fields who are now traditional rulers. The reservoir of knowledge that these people have should be utilised. I think it will benefit the government at the state and federal levels to get these people involved. These are resources for governments to use. I think the local government, honestly, should be under the monarch of that local government. The idea of palace courts is assuming a new status in Ekiti State. Do you think they can end rape, land disputes and other communal issues? In Ikere Ekiti, our structure is such that there is a palace court which is held thrice a week within the palace. Most of the issues that are resolved are civil. For instance, issues between husband and wife, marriage, land dispute, disputes between families and chieftaincy issue. Anything that is criminal like burglary is referred to the police for investigation and possible prosecution. We are able to sensitise our people to the evil of rape and violence against the woman. Once these issues come to the palace courts, we are able to resolve them. Our arrangement is that at the palace court, we have a registrar and all our cases are documented. If any person is not satisfied, they bring it to the king, who will hear what the court has done and he will adjudicate on it. We have had huge success in this regard. Ninety-nine per cent of such cases were resolved. It is even cost-effective. The scramble for obaship is becoming tougher in Ekiti State, like your journey to the throne. What do you think is responsible for this and what should the towns do? It is a fact that it is getting fierce. It was only recently that judgement was passed confirming the appointment and coronation of the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, who came to the throne 16 years ago as the Oba of Lagos. I believe it is a taint on our tradition and customs. In the past, two or three people would contest to become the king. It is okay for people to aspire to want to be king, but the throne is for only one person at a time. The new law says a prince, who is identified and confirmed by the head of the family that he is a bona fide son of a royal family, is entitled. Of course, there will be many people. But if we follow the path that our fathers followed, all this acrimony will reduce. Just as in politics these days, when somebody emerges, even when a candidate is not willing to contest the election, there are some people who think they can benefit by exploiting the person, urging him to go to court. This is the norm in Yorubaland and it is a shame. I think the laid down rules must be followed. And to prevent this, if there is a vacancy, every candidate should be made to sign to say that whether the candidates are 10 or 40 or whatever, only one person will emerge and because they will have representatives in all the processes, either it is the interview or ifa or voting, you will have representatives. Therefore, all the candidates will sign an undertaking that they will not go to court once a candidate emerges. That commitment should be obtained from every candidate so that when any of them goes to court, he would be asked whether he witnessed the process or not, whether he was at the interview, represented at the ifa oracle consultation and the voting process. And again, I will advise that video coverage of the processes should be made so that everybody can see clearly if there is transparency; if there is manipulation and so forth. I am still in court now with some people who say they are not happy. For me, there are ways to reduce the controversies that usually follow the appointment of a new king. Recently, I read an article by a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Mrs Sinatu Ojikutu. She made a very good suggestion that the appointment of kings should be taken away from the governor as approving authority. Once the kingmakers, the people that God has mandated to choose kings, do the process transparently, then the process should be seen to be completed. In my case, it took over four months after I was elected by the kingmakers before my appointment was approved by the then Governor Ayodele Fayose. This is where politics is brought into the appointment of obas. If the people in government believe they don’t know you, they don’t like you or that you didn’t support them, they can even throw it away and pick somebody that has no vote or who ifa did not pick. That is against our tradition and it has repercussion.

Politics / Ekiti People Voice Out For The candidate You Voted For...a True Story by tonybank01: 7:34pm On Jul 16, 2018 |
see how apc manipulated the results....i went to vote on Saturday and the results that was announced on Saturday was totally different from what inec released and it's unfair. Which I saw with my two eyes and the corper who pasted it was saying have not signed it and pdp was leading and imagine in the next day it was manipulated and apc won the polling unit for that I actually believed that Nigeria can never move forward 100 yrs to come ...how will you deny pdp representative to entering the inec office in ado which was been surrounded by dss and armed police men.. it was so glaring that pdp was wining even CNN news announced that pdp was actually winning and they denied them of announcing the outcome of the election on Saturday evening and even everyone was so sad that there was no movement in ado and various towns in ekiti to celebrate for apc who won the election because people knew who dey voted for. how would you expect them to come out and vote when every town is been surrounded by armed police men .. funniest aspect how would the federal government deployed 30k security men and $50 million dollars to ekiti when other states are suffering from the hand of terrorist, even most of the apc members knew that he can win the election because his a loser.. those from osun and and other apc states can witness that most people there are suffering, imagine someone from osun that was collecting 150k salary for a month to be collecting 15k which can feed a family member of 6 and the president calls himself the leader of the whole nation who can't question his governors under him on what they are using the money been generated from tax and the allocation been giving to them monthly... I swear those kings in Nigeria should stand up against what the government are doing against the citizen or they might be afraid not to be dethrone by the government because you guys also have freedom of speech that's why I love formal king of ife-oba Sijuade oonirisa. No man can question his authority not even the present and past governors and head of state because he stood on his own right because oba in this nation have Lost there valve to the government and been intimated. Please stand on your right because your throne is not there age mate because government met you there and they most not have the right and authority over you because there position is 4 yrs because they will go and come. I hail the present ooni of ife who stood on his right which the governor wanted to snatch a land from him and also oba are to be giving allocation to develop there and rebuild there various kingdoms and this will also move the country forward because a sitting governor can't develope the whole town in his/her state...I'm neutral to politics and this was my first time of voting and the results that was announced from my polling unit was different from what the inec official released on Saturday morning and after what did later with the manipulation, they now called a pdp representative to come to talk base on the results, please what do you except him to say, when e knew the inec have manipulated it, I love what he said that morning . If previous leaders of USA, uk were corrupt leaders the country can't be what it's, imagine Monaco, Tongan, Vatican City, Dubai which are not up to Nigeria population have better economy in the world and president is telling we Nigerian that his fighting corruption or himself is the head of all corruption........ Kings in Yoruba land please voice for your people and kick those who bring backward ness to your kingdom an not been blinded folded on the amount of money that will be given to you because a governor and president spend not less than 4 yrs but a king is for life... Please stand up and let's fight this government who have dead mind and who doesn't have the fear of God ....a woman from ondo state was telling me that some people who four have to withdraw there children for other siblings the rest to study when the current governor was saying that there school fees can't buy a pair of shoe....please sorry for wrong English
