Don't try to shift Yoruba tribal bigotry on the Igbos. Yorubas are as tribalistic as every other tribe in this country and this attitude is prevalent in the politics they play since Nigeria's independence. I would worry more about the preservation of the language and not its corruption. The latter is inevitable, unless society devices a means of severing interaction with other groups.

What you know today as your Omambala dialect is probably a corruption of its first form forged through time. Some languages have gone extinct e.g Aramaic and our duty should be to preserve the Igbo language and culture the best we can, but note that there must always be external imfluences.

Whereas Igbo consciousness may have been enhanced and brought to fore by the balkanization of the bight of Biafra and the entire Niger area by the Europeans, there are schools of thought that suggest the notion has been there for a long time coming albeit in its subtlety.

The Igbo history is an interesting one and I dont know why it is not incorporated into our primary and secondary school curriculum beyond introductory classes which barely scratch the surface, yet we are subjected to Roman, british and the Ottoman empire studies when we have enough of our own to deal with. That is hypocrisy and short sightedness on the part of our government.

I know the Orlu and Ihiala area more than you think. And yes they are a mixture of Northern Imo dialect and central Anambra with some exclusive internal items but that's not the issue. My issue is with Igbo Izugbe. It is corrupting our original lects. I will like every Igbo to write in their own dialects that way we can learn other people's tongue with losing our own. Today,Odumchi writes in Aro and I in Idenmili tongue yet we communicate well without losing our original tongue. You don't create new language like the white man did with Izugbe they form by them selves. What you hear in Onicha,Obosi,Nkpor and Ogbaru is a combination of dialects from the original inhabitants of these places. Stop trying to write what people can understand,rather let them ask and learn your dialect.

And don't forget that a lot of these groups in Orsu,Orlu and Okigwe migrated from Anambra,hence the similarities.
