I am bit confused here,are u suggesting that with a budget of 500k (land and housing exclusive) one should stock 100-150 layers or what ? That makes it a bit scary cos I intend starting with a minimum of 500-700 layers exclusive of land , as I need to build the house myself, what budget will be enuf for my proposed investment.

For 500 layers, you will need almost 1million naira before you can start retrieving your investment. You will need to do the following (Vaccination, feeding, lighting, security, labour, wood shaving) for 4-5 months before they start laying egg.

A LITTLE BREAKDOWN IS AS FOLLOWS, THIS IS A GUIDE.
My broilers ate an average of 8kg to 13weeks maturity, ordinarily layers might not eat that much, so let’s assume the layers eats 14kg to 20weeks maturity (it is better to plan with 20wks instead of 16wks)

(1) Feeding
Let's assume a bag of grower mash/layers mash is N2, 000
That means a bird will consume N80 x 14kg = N1, 120
For 500 birds = 500 x N1, 120 = N560, 000

(2) Vaccination for 5 months = N50,000
(3) Labour for 5 months at 20k per month = N100,000
(4) Lighting, security, wood shaving = N75,000
(5) Miscellaneous = N100,000
(6) Price Variation or unaccounted details = N100,000


NB: This is based on my experience from broiler farming; someone that is into laying birds might give you a more detailed info.

There is no where you can get AGO for N115 (depot price is N140 plus), except the local refinery type.
And no reputable organisation can give you the local refinery AGO.

Am sorry, but your projections of N40,000 for feeding 300 broilers for 3months is not realistic.
Are you a practising farmer or you are an infopreneur?
