9inches:

May I ask how you arrived at your conclusion that my argument for a God is flawed? Is it because you know for sure that evolution or any other physical sciences can disprove the possibility of an infinite being (an uncaused cause)?

To answer your question, yes I have considered other factors and realized the God question is not a scientific question, but rather a philosophical question. Believing in science to address non physical non natural questions is a dumbing down of reason. Reason is not limited by science.

As far as I'm concerned philosophy and science can be used interchangeably. My problem with you theists is that y'all have concluded that some things are non-physical and unnatural. How do you determine what is physical and not? No one is saying science has the answer to every question, I see science as a skeptic movement for discovery and explanation of inexplicable things and to create an avenue to aid humanity.

The fact that some things are inexplicable doesn't make it non-physical or unnatural; such has been proven times without number (so many supposedly unnatural phenomenon have been proven natural by natural means). In fact, open-mindedness, Logic, empiricism and inquiry are the bedrock of human cognition. The only way to know is to inquire, not to conclude that it's beyond physical.

This your question simply shows that you have not read this thread from page 1 to the current page.

It is already a settled matter: HND is Equivalent to US Bachelors Degree

As I have always maintained on various fora that I contribute, that Masters & PhD Admissions in the USA (also called graduate education) is not like the nonsense formalities that we borrowed from the UK, whereby you just apply, send your Transcript and thats all.

In the USA, you need to demonstrate that you are fit for graduate education, this is done by:

Transcript, Grades, GPA
Statement of Purpose
Recommendation Letter
GRE (For some programs)
TOEFL (For some programs, but as an international student, seeking for Graduate Assistant/Fellowship, it is highly advised to take the exam)
CV/Resume showing your leadership roles and achievements, awards, research papers you have published, etc.

Just as I note earlier, it is like looking for job. You have to have a competitive profile and the Admissions Committee need to see with all these documents that you have the capacity and fit for graduate education.

In conclusion, your HND meets the undergraduate education requirements for Masters and PhD degree admissions in the USA.

Can any school which accepts WES evaluation accept HND based WES evaluation? YES

I actually did read everything, but needed a yes or no clarification, and not inference.
Thanks for the answer.

GNwafor:
For most you on this Nairaland thread, you guys need to know that the type of questions you post is used to gauge your intelligence.

For me, I figured out the WES Credential Evaluation for USA Graduate Education myself. I have been very generous to share a lot of information on the "process".

If you are a student, you MUST follow processes and procedures.

Key points you need to know:

1. If you have HND in any course in Nigeria, note that your HND is equivalent to a USA Bachelors degree. All is needed for you is to do a credential evaluation to convert your HND grades into USA grade report and the organization issues you an evaluation report stating that your HND is equivalent to a USA Bachelors degree with an equivalent GPA in the USA grading system. The evaluation organization is not converting your HND to a degree, rather they are stating that the number credits you earned while studying for your HND is equal to or greater than 120 credits which is what is required to earn a Bachelors degree in USA. The evaluation organization understands that HND is a 5year program in Nigeria - 2years ND, 1year Internship (Industrial Training - IT), and 2years HND.
For example, if you look up where I posted my Credential Evaluation Report, you will notice that the total number of credits I earned in the 5years HND program in Chemical Engineering at IMT Enugu Nigeria is 184, that is total credits in ND plus total credits in HND.

2. WES is the most respected Credential Evaluation Organization in the USA because they are the original members that formed NACES in 1987. And I advice any Nigerian planning for graduate education in the USA to use them.

3. Because they are very highly respected, their verification process is VERY thorough. So don't expect just to send your documents to them, and the next day you will see the report. It is NOT possible!

4. Because of the Nigerians' questionable credibility which is evident in all spheres of human endeavor, they have even made the verification process more thorough. From the 1st of August 2018, every new applicant from NIGERIA MUST also send WAEC original Certificate for verification, and they will send it back to WAEC Office in Yaba to verify. This same goes for your Transcript, once it is sent to them, they will photocopy it and send it back to your School Registrar to verify that the Transcript actually came from them. It is because of this thorough process that everybody is complaining. In fact with the mad rush of Nigerians going to Canada, a lot Nigerians are forging a lot of Certificate, and once you send it to WES either in USA or Canada, and your school replied that you NEVER studied here, they will blacklist you and share your details with all other Government and allied agencies in USA and Canada. When I did mine in 2012, I paid then, and sent a photocopy of my HND and ND Certificates, and IMT sent the Transcript to them, WES sent back the photocopies of my HND & ND Certificate together with the Transcript back to IMT Registrar, it took IMT Enugu almost 7 to 8 months to reply to the verification request. That is Nigeria method for you.

5. Wes.org has all the answers to ALL your questions, including the cost of the evaluation and postage fee. If dont have a PO Box, I advise you to choose International courier, you will have to pay higher and they will send you a copy of the evaluation report by FedEx. Note you will be paying with your Naira Mastercard or Visa Card.

6. If you are a student planning for graduate education in the USA, I will advice you to choose the ICAP services in addition to your Course-by-Course Report. This is a special service that enables WES store your Transcript, HND certificate + the Credential Evaluation Report for life. This will help in the future assuming you start looking for job in the USA which always the case, and the company wants to see your certificate and transcript.

7. This thread is specifically for USA Credential Evaluation for graduate education.

8. Not ALL Schools in the USA accept WES credential evaluation report, but MOST Schools do accept, some schools have an internal evaluation team that does it and recommend to Admissions Committee.

9. Not ALL schools will give you admission into Masters degree with your HND together with WES Credential Evaluation Report, admission into USA Masters & PhD degree programs are the same thing as looking for a job, you will need good grades, some work experience, leadership experience, good TOEFL Score (Not all school need TOEFL from Nigerians, some believe that we are an English speaking country), good recommendation letters, some research experience, and statement of purpose, GRE, some portfolio of sample work like artists. There are over 4,000 colleges and universities in USA. Checking on their admissions website will guide you accordingly.

10. For the GRE. Not all programs require GRE. Check the admissions requirements. As a student, there are some questions that looks stupid, asking what is the expiration date for GRE doesn't add up. Remember that YOU are a student. GRE.org has all the information. GRE lasts for 5 years, TOEFL is 2 years.

In fact, if you are a HND graduate from Nigeria, and you want to study in the USA, this thread is packed with quantum of information to guide you, remember that nobody will spoonfeed you. The whole information is laid out for serious ones. If you read this page from the beginning to the end, you will kickstart the process. I mean it! I have even provided guidance on how to even post your Certificate to WES and how to request for your Transcript from your school and the needed requisition form. It is on this thread. Remember that HND holders are doers, practical professionals.

I am providing this information on pro bono basis. There is a paid service if you want. But with the amount of information on this thread, you can go to the moon!

As a busy professional, I may not have the time to reply, but surely I will answer some pertinent questions.

Be Brave! Start this WES Credential Evaluation Process. Remember, WES started asking for WAEC on 1st August 2018.

Are you trying to say a HND degree holder can gain admission for a masters degree program in the USA with WES(ICAP) evaluation, if the intended school normally accepts WES evaluation? I mean, can any school which accepts WES evaluation accept HND based WES evaluation?

Religion hardly does any good in the long run but not Christianity.

Why hath thou deceiveth thyself? You guys always try so hard to redefine Christianity, yet stay subscribed to the Bible (dogma) and generally regard criticism of the Bible as blasphemy, not knowing that you can't change a model (indoctrination) without changing the blueprints (doctrine).

Christianity is a religion Bro. Your statement is contradictory.

Perhaps we mean different things by the word "freewill"?

For my argument, freewill is in relation to GOD, and it is simply the ability to choose willingly either to keep GOD's law, or to disobey it.

Exactly! I was explaining in relation to GOD. There is nothing like freewill if there are repercussions: if one can be persecuted as a result of the supposed freewill, then the concept of freewill is an illusion, it's a hoax.

A perfect dish can be spoiled with a tinge of salt to many

The cooked dish is perfect until one person decides to render it inedible with too much salt

There is nothing like perfect dish...what you, as an individual, regard as a perfect dish, maybe imperfect to others, that is why when you go to restaurants they put sauces and spices on your table that may help meet your cravings.

What I was trying to say is that, a perfect world doesn't exist. A supposed perfect world can only become imperfect if its supposed perfection is actually a subjective phenomenon that was merely termed perfect by the creator. If that world becomes imperfect, it means it was influenced by probably another deity equally or more powerful than that creator (assuming the creators are entities), which generally means that world wasn't objectively perfect in the first place.

The summary is that if external factors can influence imperfection, it means that that supposed perfection was indeed subjective and never perfect.

Bro, all these things are what you think. I will not be surprised too if you say GOD is not omnipotent just because He did not create a square circle.

By the way, a perfect world with freewill was existing until imperfection came in through the only door through which it could have come in: freewill.

Bro, you are contradicting yourself, : a perfect world can never become imperfect. Also, perfection and freewill cannot coexist; in a perfect world, the word and concept of freewill won't be a term.....

In a supposed perfect world, if you get punished/persecuted for your actions, then freewill didn't exist in the first place, likewise it means the world wasn't perfect from the get-go, in fact concept/words like persecution won't be a thing.

Travel / Re: Is There An Order From US Authorities To Deny Nigerians Visas? by topdee(m): 4:23pm On Aug 04, 2018
TimeMachine:

I support the decision of the USA to deny Nigerians VISA access into their country for several reasons. Most of those who are going to study in the USA, do not come back home. The Educational trip is just a decoy to get out of the country.

Americans built their infrastructures for their citizens to enjoy, now foreigners are invading their space.

Stay in your country and fight your politicians to build your schools if you are really after Education and not a means of running away from hardship and the impending 2019 implosion.

Really? First and foremost, America is literally a "no man's land": a significant majority of people in the US have been foreigners at some point (referring to the lineage). The infrastructure you talked about was built by foreigners.

In fact, many top tech companies in the US was founded/cofounded by foreigners who were once enrolled in school; in Silicon Valley majority of the people there are foreigners who were once on visas, some are still on visas. The booming real estates and housing is as a result of foreigners. Many of these same foreigners have better credibility than some US citizens (with reference to background checks, credit scores, criminal records, etc.).

Generally, Americans don't study past a bachelor's degree, many don't study past high school. Most of the professors in schools were once foreigners, and a large number of students in the top tier universities are even foreigners. Most people studying masters, MBA or PhD are foreigners. Without foreigners most university endowment in the US will be very low.

Most foreigners are even more law abiding than its citizens. Without foreigners US economy will be merely like that of Mexico.

Yes, I know many people abuse the visa, but a majority of Nigerians who attend school in the US with student visa excel academically, and whether you like it or not, these same students add value to the US economy when they get jobs (I'm referring to students enrolled in STEM programs). I know many people who got jobs in the US after school, worked for a while and after gaining valuable experience returned to Nigeria to setup their business.

Have you ever reasoned that some times in order to critically examine something, one needs a different exposure to cultivate a different mindset: corruption is looming in Nigeria, to the extent that the average Nigerian, who haven't probably left the shores of Nigeria, with the wit to boycott corruption might fail at it. International exposure could play a major role in tackling corruption in Nigeria.

The "hardship" you mentioned isn't anyone's choice (referring to the youth), but the foundation of which the economy was built on is the problem. At times, one may need to breathe a different air to see things from different perspective in order to solve problems.

The creators of the book are geniuses, they designed the book to make believers remain in mental bondage indefinitely: in any event a believer starts having doubts, they crafted the book with similar passages and stories, like this one you quoted, as a countermeasure to make people remain indoctrinated.

However, it is only a matter of time before people stopped believing in the book, especially newer generations.

Two encounters with the Lord. The first in 2001 while asleep, I saw him walked from the gate straight down to our room. Immediately goose bumps was all over me. He melted through the door with his glowing robe, came to where I was lying, he lay on me and entered my body. Early this year again, on my bed at about 3am. I was asleep but suddenly my spirit was at alert... A strange feeling that triggered goose bumps whenever a supernatural being is around you while asleep. In his splendour, I witnessed yet another glorious entrance of the King since 2001 when he first visited me. He opened the door, I knew it was him again, he walked towards me and lay beside me. I stood up and went to the living room to find my siblings asleep. I asked for food, immediately Jesus stood up from my bed and shouted 'DO NOT GIVE HIM ANY FOOD'. I woke up immediately knowing I just had an encounter.
This is not about dreams, I wasn't on drugs, neither was it a coincidence. Jesus is Life.

Mind stating the physical attributes of Jesus from your encounter?

Just want to ask a question you said schools don't have the right to indoctrinate someone with their religion

Do schools have the right to teach children evolution theory and flying spaghetti monster?

Indoctrination and teaching are two different contextual words as highlighted. Schools/academic institutions are for teaching/learning, not to indoctrinate; even if one is to take classes on theology, the teacher has no right to enforce/indoctrinate, all the teacher is expected to do is educate students on the subject matter based on resources at his disposal.

Even in science classes, the teachings are based on empirical data, and credit is often being given to the scientists behind the discovery, to show the information is based on discoveries of the scientist. If one feels objected by the scientist's discovery, one has the right to modify it with better empirical data and theories.

The whole idea behind education is to continually provide means for improvement on disseminated data, to amplify and modify existing discoveries with newer discoveries based on more robust evidentiary information, not to just embrace information one can't examine or criticize.

For those who need student loans: you can obtain student loans from Citizens Bank, even as an international student.
Although, you need a cosigner who is an American citizen or a permanent resident with good credit rating to be your cosigner, that is the deterministic factor to obtain a loan successfully. You have the option of up to 15 years loan repayment plan.

VISA APPROVED THIS MORNING:

My appointment was for 6:30am in Lagos. I was surprised by the crowd I met there. Anyways, while in the hall I noticed many people were denied visa, even some students. I was at the last lane and I noticed the last four people before me were also denied visa. I became anxious and starting thinking about all I memorized, but when it got to my turn I became blank, I forgot all I memorized, my brain was like a formatted disk. I lost confidence, but I maintained eye contact and smiling face.

ME: Good morning (*with a shaky voice*)

VO: Pass me your passport, sevis receipt and i20

ME: *I obliged*

VO: How did you get to know about this school and why this particular school?

ME: (*I forgot what to say and paused for about 3 seconds before responding*)Two friends who are alumni of the school recommended it and I did my research on the school by......vo cuts in*

VO: What did your friends tell you about this school?

ME: My friends already knew my preferred area of research concentration and they made me understand that the school is well equipped to fulfil my research aspirations and the school’s curriculum structure aligns with my research area on sustainable energy development and smart grid, which is basically…...vo cuts in*

VO: What is the curriculum structure and which courses will I be taking?

ME:I listed the courses..... vo cuts in* (Before I finished listing the courses, VO approved my visa)

I was shocked, my mind was elevated and I didn’t even hear any other thing the VO said afterwards. I was so joyous in my mind…..
Anyways, this is my story, I thank everyone here for the transcripts, vital information and assistance directly and indirectly. smiley grin
