THERE'S NOTHING TO BE PROUD OF IN RUSTED CORRUGATED IRON ROOFS INTRODUCED BY BRITISH COLONIAL INVADERS, WHO DID NOT USE CORRUGATED IRON OR ZINC ROOFS IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY, BUT BROUGHT IT HERE FOR YOU TO USE.
RUSTED ROOFS ARE NOT YOUR 'HERITAGE'. THEY ARE AN UGLY COLONIAL RELIC.
THEY ARE AN EYESORE WHEN THEY RUST AFTER 20 OR 30 YEARS OF USE, AND SCREAM 'UNDERDEVELOPMENT & POVERTY'.
YOU NEED A GOVT SUBSIDISED PROGRAM TO RE-ROOF THOSE HOUSES WITH PROPER ROOFING MATERIALS.
Resurrection212: Forget money I still have money I can take out buy whatever I need. Go to major joint there are empty I'm not talking of carrying sex workers go home Bleep...
MR MAN, PEOPLE ARE BALLING.
GO AND ARRANGE YOURSELF AND JOIN THEM INSTEAD OF COMING HERE TO MOAN.
AmiableMosquito: @OP, I know exactly how you feel. Really sorry about your ordeal but gambling is a dangerous addiction that may even be worse than alcoholism or pornography.
It will lead you to all manner of immorality just to cover up for your losses and the drive to chase your losses. You will lie, steal, become desperate, anxious, restless and you will even crave solitude more than anything else. It will strain your relationships and degrade your level of attention to more relevant things because all you will be thinking of is how to bet or recoup your lost bets.
Donating money for you isn't the solution now. Cos whatever you get, you will still bet. No matter how much you deceive yourself that you won't.
Now, read the following carefully;
1. Tell your mother what has happened. What's the worst than can happen? She would prefer to bear the loss of money than bear your demise if you kill yourself. You will be scolded and might be insulted. That's okay, you deserve it after all.
2. Write on a piece of paper or type these words on a piece of paper and paste in your room or on a book you use regularly. "Gambling will not make me rich, instead it will impoverish and destroy me. Make sure it is visible for you to see everyday.
3. Close all your online betting account. It's the fastest way to depression. If you cannot close it, call their customer care to help you disable the account.
4. Find an accountability partner. Find someone who you know can hold you accountable and to whom you are willing to be accountable to. Might be your mum but preferably a sibling, a close friend or your girlfriend. The person must be a serious minded person who cares about you and who is also not struggling with gambling addiction. If they are trustworthy enough, save your money with them going forward. Never be too confident that today's experience has taught you enough lesson. It's a lie. You cannot manage your own finances for now.
5. Avoid visiting bet shops for any reason. Whether it is to go and charge or watch football or see a friend or just to watch others betting. Please avoid it by all means necessary. Liken it to a slaughterhouse where ritualists slaughter humans. Well so, because gambling will kill you eventually.
6. Your life is worth way more than N960k. Will you suffer for your actions? Yes. Will you suffer forever? No. Learn from this mistake and gather yourself together. Start an aggressive saving culture from 100 naira to as much as you can. Deprive yourself of any unnecessary indulgence or enjoyment. You actually do not deserve it after this loss. Let that be your penance. Save, save, save and save. Go out and get busy; an idle mind is the devil's workshop. Hustle as if your mum is in a life threatening condition in the hospital and you were asked to raise some money for her surgery (God forbid that). I'm sure you'd do anything legal to find that money...... Yeah, hustle with that type of mindset. Your life depends on it.
7. I am writing this as someone who has experienced firsthand the destruction and havoc gambling have wrecked in people's lives; from established businessmen in the East to bankers in the West and students in the South South. I have seen it all while I volunteered for GambleAlert. Marriages have broken, jobs lost, businesses ruined, trust eroded, relationships wasted, talents destroyed, lives wasted just because of gambling. Trust me, it's as destructive as drug addiction. I hope one day I will be able to write a book on it.
8. Do not think you can break free in one day. Like every addiction, it takes a gradual process to break free. Too bad we have more bet shops and betting ambassadors than we have betting addiction support groups in Nigeria. You will be tempted to return especially when you remember your losses. You will see yourself starting with small amounts thinking you can control your spending limits but gradually, you will find yourself doing big numbers again. My advise in this regard is that if you are not using your smartphone to earn money, do away with it for now. Use a small phone for communication, at least for 3 months. Whenever you are thinking of betting, think of how it has ruined lives and I mean promising lives. No one gets rich by gambling. The betting companies are not philanthropic organisations.
9. Finally, my bro, I am guessing you reside in the SouthEast. From my experience with GambleAlert, the S/E is the most burdened with this social menace. You'd see businessmen once doing well suddenly became paupers because of addictive gambling. Please run o my brother.
Gambling has and will continue to ruin many lives. When I am more settled, I intend to push forward an NGO that will fight for heavy regulation of gambling in Nigeria.
Gambling has made some people very rich.
You have no idea what you are talking about.
Sure it’s addictive and all that.
But it’s not true to say that gambling has never made anyone rich.
You can do an accumulator bet and win up to 10 or even 20 times your stake. That’s enough to make you rich depending on your stake.
But, our resident wailers claimed that all Multinationals are exiting the country and even advised local investors to "invest in Nigeria at their own risk"
In the end, Reno Omokri is right about those Economic developmental indices and those stats are right
2027 loos very massive
There are many other investors on their way to Nigeria.
The government’s policies are attracting investors who are ready to work in an UNSUBSIDISED Nigerian economy.
The ones leaving are the parasitical ones who can only survive under artificial, ruinous fuel subsidies that were bankrupting the nation, so let them go! Good riddance!
WannaHowzit: Wow, dating Nigerian men is really a taboo in SA. See how seriously these professional SA women took it as an insult to them. Well, outcomes of greed, fraud and a dire lack of conscience 🇳🇬😢
Yet they date South African men despite the 500,000 rape incidents a year committed by them.
Of course it’s an acceptable military strategy to inform your enemies that your capacity to track them down has drastically increased.
We are not at war. We want to maintain PEACE. So the tactics are different. It’s not about surprising the enemy and starting a bloody onslaught as would be the case in a war situation.
The announcement could serve as a powerful deterrent and make some of them to start considering alternative pursuits in their lives as opposed to banditry and terrorism, without having to put our troops and civilians’ lives at risk.
The comical nature of little kids on Nairaland thinking they know military strategy better than trained generals and intelligence agencies.
ALTERNATEID: There is a reason the world bank guy said we should stay true to the ongoing reform for at least 15 years.
You guys simplify our economic challenges by thinking just two weeks of decline in PMS import will automatically result in Naira stability. It’s not that quick and easy. We need to remain consistent for at least a year before we can start counting the impact of the forex savings on our local currency. There is no shortcut to any of these things. It takes time and consistency for result to start showing.
Honestly you have time.
These Obidients KNOW the effects will take time to come through.
But they don’t care.
They just want to attack the govt and Tinubu because that’s what makes them sleep at night.
SmartPolician: That man is 1000% right! Electricity has improved in the past couple of months. Those who don't own cars have no business with fuel stations. Many people have admitted on Nairaland that electricity supply has improved in their area.
Many of the usual suspects hate to hear this, but it's true.
LastGiantAlive: I didn't bother reading your unity-begging epistle. Tell your darling daddy to help us do the Lord's work and disband this evil contraption. Give me the mushroom country like that I'll take it. This gigantic one hasn't done anything for the Igbo nation. We're tired. We want out!
So what are 20 million of you doing in the North?
And 15 million of you in the southwest?
Which unity begging pass that one?
Even dragging land ownership with them?
After we break up and we drive all of you back to the South East, hope you can house and feed 35 million deportees..
Or you think you can remain as FOREIGNERS in Nigeria in your tens of millions?
Think again.
I will even JOIN THE POLICE and make BIG money from harassing you people and demanding you show your residency permit, or even visa, or face beating and instant deportation.
Or you think you will have RIGHTS in Lagos or Abuja or Kano?
Think again. FOREIGNER.
And nobody stops you from seceding right now.
Just keep your filthy paws off the SOUTH-SOUTH which is NOT Igboland, and you can secede even tonight.
We will even do send off party for you.
Worthless.
Nigeria that is FEEDING YOU after you fled your region in your tens of millions is the same country you hate with a passion, and doing 'sit at home' to secede from, because you are THICK and STUPID.
Please secede. Make I go join Police to make sure say na REAL secession.
Salewa97: Alex Otti, the governor who has been busy with social media instead of focusing on governance.
What a shame
Look, this is why I laugh when I hear people say that once Nigeria breaks up, everything will be okay. Or that ''once we get 'Biafra', we will turn to Paradise on Earth''.
It's just a stupid fantasy. The problem is not Nigeria being together or breaking up. The problem is that your own leaders in your region are thieves.
CURE THEIR THIEVERY AND YOU WILL BE OKAY!
Is it when you break up and form one mushroom country nobody's heard of, that they will stop being thieves?
hahhahhahahaha.....
On the contrary that's when it will even get worse. Because they will be MORE powerful in a smaller country with their own army etc. You will now start having Presidents For Life, like in Malawi and Congo! Passing the presidency down to their sons! Go and see what's happening in places like South Sudan, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Togo with Eyadema, Cameroon with Paul Biya, etc.
You can't just wake up and start insulting the president and govt like we do in Nigeria today, freely. They will finish you! And nobody will know or care, because you're a tiny country.
If you cannot hold your regional leaders accountable in this relatively liberal NIGERIAN framework as presently constituted, you will NEVER be able to hold them to account in a smaller, new country, because they will be more powerful than they are now.
25% tax is criminal no matter how we want to justify it, especially when the government is doing little or nothing to help businesses grow or contribute directly or indirectly to the success of these individuals.
Even the rich will also cry!
No focus on human capital or infrastructural development.
No focus on cutting down cost of governance.
No focus on clamping down on corruption.
All the tax, multiple loans, revenue from other sources and supposed savings on subsidy removal..... ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT!
I dare anyone to mention just one thing the common man presently benefits or enjoy from the government.
It's sad, painful and pathetic.
OH PLEASE SHUT UP.
That you can read, write, and have access to the internet, DO YOU THINK IT ALL HAPPENED BY MAGIC?
Could your grandparents or great grandparents read and write? Did they have qualifications? Did they have phones and communication? Could they JAPA from their farms and head to Australia or Canada or US for “greener pastures”?
CAPITAL NO.
All that came from govt investment in Education and Telecommunications.
Were it not for that investment since Independence, YOU would be a VILLAGE PALMWINE TAPPER today like your forbears.
So USE your Education and internet access you enjoy, courtesy of Nigerian govt investment, to GO on YouTube and learn ANY skill for FREE, and START SOMETHING WITH YOUR LIFE.
And in the countries you worship like the UK and US, their tax rates are even HIGHER than 25%.
If you want to be developed like them, you must be prepared to pay HIGH TAXES like them.
LOVEALAIGBO: Will you shut up! I’ve noticed your desperate attempts as you go around the politics section trying blame IPOB for the engineered insecurity in the south-east! Dude, the insecurity in the south-east, whether by omission or commission, is WHOLLY the fault and responsibility of your evil, anti-Igbo hegemonic gov’ts of Buhari and now Tinubu! Their crass incompetence, red-flag operations, unofficial partnerships with criminal militant leaders like Asari Dokubo, and outright mass murder of innocent agitators….all this is what has led us to this point! Buhari and Tinubu aren’t interested in ending insecurity in the south-east because THEY are the ones engineering it and they want to use is to try and demonise IPOB and Mazi Kanu as well as ensure they destabilise the south-east economy and demarket the region! They do this out of hatred, the blackness of their hearts and a desire to ‘teach those Igbo a lesson for daring to want to secede and not knowing their inferior/slave status’! People like you have your own part to play in this evil plot, and this is why you do what you do on this forum! If Tinubu was genuinely interested in restoring peace to the south-east, he’d have obeyed the last court order on the matter and released Mazi Kanu, so we can know just who these instigators and 5th-columnists are!
You glibly assert that no investors or investments should go to the south-east because of ‘insecurity’, yet as we speak, your evil hegemonic Tinubu gov’t is sucking out billions of dollars worth of oyel and gas from the region! Imagine the hypocrisy and deceit! You see nothing wrong in Nigeria taking billions of dollars worth of loans, of which most of the benefits go to the south-west and north-west (the two regions of the hegemonic alliance), while you argue that it’s ‘justified’ for the south-east to be excluded because of IPOB! Loans ALL OF US will pay back oh! You see how eminently wicked you Igbo-haters are!?
One wonders why you don’t argue same for the north-west which is arguably one of the most insecure regions on earth, yet as we speak your federal gov’t is engaged in building a multi-billion dollar AKK gas line; a trans-border brand new multi-billion dollar railway so Buhari can link up with his cousins in Maradi, Niger; has built a brand new international airport terminal in Kano while the one for Enugu is left to rot; is rehabilitating Kaduna refinery; has spent hundreds of millions of dollars searching for the elusive oyel and gas in the region; and much more projects/investments too numerous to mention!
There is God ohhhh!
What a demented rant.
You clearly have serious problems upstairs.
Stella Oduah your sister looted the money FG gave her for Enugu airport.
The 2 billion dollar 2nd Niger Bridge Buhari built for you, what did you show him in return except more hatred and abuse?
Yet you demand they do more.
I don’t even know why Buhari bothered building that bridge.
sreamsense: If not because islamic terrorists are really dangerous and evils, why do the always waste money building tunnels for their future crime and the mosques will even be donating for such ventures. They will build tunnel close to mosque, hospitals and schools. They only think of evils five times a day as they go for five Solat prayer on daily basis. Their women and children are suffering in poverty, yet they prefer to waste money to chase enemies that don't even plan evil towards them. Very disgusting religion!
And the Satan you worship supports the Israeli mass murder of 40,000+ innocent people in Gaza, including 10,000 children.
SATANIC BEING YOU.
VAMPIRE THIRSTY FOR THE BLOOD OF INNOCENT CHILDREN.
YOU WILL ANSWER FOR YOUR WICKEDNESS AT THE GATES OF HELL.
AND THERE WILL BE NO SATANYAHU OR IDF THERE TO HELP YOU.
IT WILL BE JUST YOU, GOD, AND THE SOULS OF THE 40,000 INNOCENT PEOPLE WHOSE MURDER YOU SUPPORTED AND CHEERED FROM YOUR WICKED HEART.
nedu666: You are now an lgbo man. All these inferiority complex people. Even online they will deny their ethnic group just for sake of winning arguments.
Riffraff. Who cares what an ignorant school dropout like you thinks?
If you think I’m not Igbo, that’s your fcking business.
Ignorant village dunce with no brain.
Was INNOSON not in Aso Rock recently, showing support for the FG?
He is not Igbo either.
He is Fulani.
After all only those who hate Nigeria and Tinubu can be Igbo in your dumb, ignorant village dropout head.
Resurrection212: Please I'm just imagine something this morning if there is a any functional railway station in the whole of southeast. I knew that the Porta Harcourt and imo railway project during Jonathan administration wasn't come to reality.
Guys please any functional railway station in southeast.
The South East has been destabilised by IPOB.
Which contractor wants to go where your people are killing policemen, burning police stations and LG headquarters, with your IPOB terrorists forcing the population to “sit at home” etc?
Will the workers on the project not be scared to come to work during your nasty, traitorous “sit at home” periods enforced by your “unknown gunmen”, UGMs?
Rubbish.
You’ve turned a fascist society led by thugs and criminal fascists who hate Nigeria, so enjoy yourselves, and don’t expect new projects from a country you hate, and do “sit at home” to leave.
When your heads are correct, and you become Nigerians again, then you will see projects coming there.
michlins: let us understand who brought us here. It was the politicians who looted and rather than invest. The politicians who looted and are still looting are asking the masses to make sacrifices for the good of the country. It's an absolute arrogant and heartless thing to do to the masses.
Senate president is asking us to eat wherever we see food meanwhile he and his colleagues have feeding budget that can feed the whole primary schools in Nigeria.
Make it make sense!!!!
All this is past tense.
Don’t expect Nigerian politicians to not enjoy the perks of office.
It is what it is.
That’s our way.
If they put you there you will also accept the enjoyment without complaining.
You people are only saints and angels when you are not in power yourselves.
With all this your grammar if they make you even an LGA chairman, nobody will see you on Nairaland again.
You will become a big man, handling big money. Making big deals that will earn you billions, forgetting all the holier-than-thou grammar you are speaking here now.
The Number 1 issue facing Nigeria is the need to continue diversification away from oil, because the oil income is a pittance for our huge population.
Even if the politicians drink garri for lunch and ride okada to work, that our national income or budget of 35 billion dollars will still not be anywhere near enough to develop the country.
Here is the video of Peter Obi saying he would remove subsidy on DAY ONE of his presidency.
He was even shouting that how can we be spending 7 trillion naira annually on fuel subsidy while spending only 3.2 trillion combined on Health and Education!
He was screaming that the whole thing was a scam, and that he wouldn't hesitate to remove it the same day he entered office as president!
Now due to the subsidy removal by President Tinubu, inflation has risen, and Obidients are BLAMING TINUBU for causing the inflation when their principal supported the same policy!
I'm just sick of the BAREFACED HYPOCRISY displayed by certain elements in this country.
