The National President Hon. Alabi Kolade David, NEC, BOT, Management and Staff of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria heartily rejoice with the the Director-General of ALGON, Hajiya Binta Adamu Bello as she clocks yet another year.

According to a statement made available by the ALGON Media Office in Abuja which read in part with the title: “We Celebrate our Mama ALGON", the Association expressed happiness on its D-G's special day and prayed Allah to continue to keep, bless and protect her as she continues to serve and age gloriously.

“We toast to your life, good health, more blessings and God's unfailing protection, continue to age graciously”, the statement prayed, summarising with “Once again Happy Birthday (Mama ALGON)”.

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has been commended for their efforts aimed at ensuring a hitch-free Election.

Speaking immediately after casting his vote on Saturday, the standard flag bearer of Bariga Council and the incumbent National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon Alabi Kolade David, who was early at the Ward A, Polling Unit 017 of the Council, commended the electoral body and security agencies for ensuring a hitch-free exercise.

He said the LASIEC materials were evenly distributed and expressed optimism in the electoral body's conduct of the staggered Election which was only took place in Lagos State.

Hon. Alabi used the opportunity to advised for increased awareness of both the eligible voters and registered citizens to guarantee good exercise of their civic rights in free, fair and credible manner especially in the future.

The ALGON National President was accompanied by a handful of supporters amongst whom are the Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairman of ALGON Hon. Odunayo Ategbero and the Executive Chairman Gurara Local Government of Niger State, Hon. Hammid amongst other numerous persons.

In his remarks, the BOT Chairman Hon. Ategbero described the process as peaceful.

At press time, results were being collated from the 57 Local Government Areas and the Local Council Development Areas of the State.

The State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria Kwara state Chapter Hon.Jide Ashonibare has described as ridiculous the inclusion of his name and office as member of the alleged IMC of ALGON.

He said that ALGON has no leadership gap as the present National President, Hon. Alabi Kolade was duly elected during the well attended General Assebly held in Abuja in March 2021.

He described IMC as alien to ALGON Constitution and stated that there is no basis for continued indulgence of Hon. Abdullahi Maje on issues and affairs of the National body of the association as he was neither a member of NEC nor it's State Chapter Chairman in Niger.

He further stated that for many times the so called Abdullahi Maje has porpotedly used the Social Media as soft targets in advancing such wishful claim but regretted that ALGON is one and constitutionally bound with maximum peace which is evident in the ongoing NEC meeting that has brought ALGON NEC member across the country in Enugu since Monday.

He advised Maje to stop waisting the time he would have used to face his tenure as the Chairman of Suleja Council and endeavour to focus in delivering services to his people instead of phantom claims in the pages of newspapers.

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has said that no meaningful development will be achieved without effective synergy and support of the traditional institution in a democratic setting where powers reside with the people.

The Association made this decleration today in Kano during the event marking the Coronation of His Royal Highness, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero as the 15th Emir from Fulani Dynasty and 59th Sarkin Kano since the creation of Kano Royal Stool.

The Deputy National President of ALGON Hon Shehu Marshal Jega who in company of Hon Maifata Muazu the National Treasurer and other ALGON leaders as well some well meaning grassroots supporters noted that fluid Community relationship was a vital Ingredient that will stimulate growth in the LGA's and Councils.

He noted that prior to the advent of western civilization, the Nigeria populace had an entrenched system of government flowing from family, traditional rulers and Community leaders. He said that such brought about peace, security, development and has since evolved with the introduction of direct rule by the colonial master's.

He therefore call on Nigerians to respect their leaders and those in authority to guarantee maximum development.

In his contribution, the National Treasurer ALGON, Hon Maifata call for increase corporation between the Traditional rulers, the Chairmen of Councils across the country as such will bring about good service delivery to the people as well as help in fighting insecurity through Community collaboration.

ALGON is the umbrella body of all the Local Governments, Area/Community Development Councils in Nigeria which was created in 1999 to unify the 3 Tier of Government and ensure corporate existence, peace and progress amongst all.

...Welcomes Jigawa LGAs into Democratically Elected System

As a result of last Saturday's successful Jigawa State Local Government elections, the National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon Alabi Kolade David has commended Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar of the state for heeding to the popular cry of the good people of the State and Nigeria at large to conduct local governments election in the State.

Alabi stated this while answering questions fielded by Airport correspondents in Lagos yesterday.

He said that in the last six months, ALGON's advocacy and nationwide Campaign for a Democratically elected officials has been productive as over six states have conducted their respective local government elections.

He said that such development has gone a long way to demonstrate the valid acceptance of the system as popular will of the people.

He praised the Nigerian Governor's Forum and said that as more and more Governor's are showing stronger commitment through a mass return of the Local Governments and Councils through a democratically elected system, Nigerians are in for better desired leadership that will truly guarantee development with ample safeguards of law and order, as such will no doubt engender maximum service delivery to the people.

The National President added that "even, the insecurity that is affecting every parts of the country can be nipped in the bud through the Local Governments if the Community Policing, which ALGON has continued to promote, is given political will and approved as vital part of the Constitution Amendment".

He used the opportunity to urge remaining states that are still running their local government system with caretaker officials to have a rethink and save the system as enshrined in Section 7 (1) of the 1999 Constitution (as Amended).

The National President also stated that in a situation where some states are having their Council elections hindered by litigations, they should explore other easier option of amicably resolving them amongst the parties and Arms of Government at a roundtable to enable their people actively participate in rural governance through the electoral process.

The Association of local governments of Nigeria National President, Hon. Alabi Kolade David has said that this year's Democracy day is a unique one at the twilight of all forces of change and existential threats against democratization at the local
level, which, according to him, have gathered so much momentum in recent times that they can only be resisted or allowed to continue at Nigerians peril.

He said that from the feelers gathered through the just concluded Zonal Public Hearing by the Association, it has been established that democracy has become the legitimate demand of all local communities in Nigeria.

In his words, “today most of the countries of the world are in the process of implementing political and administrative reforms aimed at decentralizing and strengthening their local governance.

“We all know that democracy is not an event but a complex and continuous process and that is why we must sincerely continue to advocate for a strong local governments/Councils.

“Indeed, this June 12 anniversary therefore makes it essential that we collectively weight the gains and losses if we can honestly develop our potentials and resources for growth.

“It is in this regard that this year's event has been geared towards stock-taking, advocating for the promotion and development of democracy at the local level, identify people’s capacity to
manage development leveraging on our diversities to design appropriate systems to suit various peculiarities through the anticipated outcome of the proposed alterations”.


Alabi also noted that his administration in ALGON with his NEC, BOT and management are convinced that “sustainable development in both strong and in weak economies
can only be rescued if local government is empowered to play its role based on recognized principles of participation and transparency
in a manner that conforms to basic human rights.

“Such according to him is gaining attention from most Nigerians".

It will be recalled that there have been several clamour for either enactment or implementation of efficient local government laws as captured in Sections 7, 163, 163/5 of the 1999 Constitution as (Amended), of which even the framers of the constitution now realize that it is not a cookbook with standard recipes for success in Nigeria as it were.


For instance fragmented local governments tenure don’t always lead to productivity which is part of the problem.

ALGON is strongly of the opinion that there is a clearly held truth that unfortunately, the constitutional boundaries established decades ago is presently hurting the system and needs urgent redress.

The ALGON National President also drew the attention of Nigerians as it affects running a fragmented local government tenure as experience has shown that such have not led to responsiveness to local government operation.

Earlier the Chairman Board of Trustees of ALGON Hon Odunayo Ategbero observed that It is a pity that some states are having 1 year, 2 years and even six months under all kinds of leadership nomenclature interim, Caretaker or what have you.

The BOT Chairman noted that “in many of states where such is practiced, development has been a whims and caprices of the state as almost nobody holds them accountable".


It has been in the national conversation that Nigeria's political landscape has remained stubbornly resistant to change, a situation whereby such system that would have helped to overcome the yearning gaps between the rich and poor has remained unaddressed thereby creating terrible boundaries.


In his Democracy day message, the Deputy National President of ALGON, Hon. Shehu Marshal Jega stated that Nigeria need a strong systems at the councils to strongly resist hunger, unemployment, disease, de-escalate unrest, bandictry and promote, rural governance through industrialization, Development partnership, promote peace, ensure the enabling environment for ease of doing business, and guarantee security through community policing, and vigilantes.

He noted that through a strong local government system the country will make education work, have functional local/magistrate courts for prompt àdministration of criminal justice and jurisprudence, promote peace through youth engagement, provide quality learning and teachers for foundational impact, widen civic engagement, and expand advocacy for law enforcement.

He added that the council system will also ensure tax compliance, oversight the traditional rulers and faith based entities-engagement will effectively make the system work through other activities that can shore up IGR profile for meeting the huge responsibilities heaped on the Local Governments/Councils as enshrined in the 4th Schedule to the 1999 Constitution as (Amended), and so on he stated.

Lending her motherly voice, the Director-General of ALGON Hajiya Binta Adamu Bello called for refocusing on the things that matter to people and especially through regularization of elections in all the states to entrench
democratically elected Chairmen who will help to create more responsive leadership at the rural levels.

It was a joint opinion of the Chief of Staff to the National President, Hon. Itiako Ikpokpo, and the ALGON National Legal Adviser, Hon Taofiq, National Publicity Secretary, Hon Solomon Onah, and others member of the NEC that the June 12 as auspicious day is strategic to encourage all statesmen and founding fathers to address Local Governments problems, which could be solved by simple compliance with the long yearnings of the people through a bottom up development approach for virile local governments system that will impact all, including providing an atmosphere of strong legislative functions and access to funds that will take over the outmoded budgetary provisions, increase checks, balances, provide due diligence, encourage key performance indicators which have all kept the system on its knees.

They urged that the constitution be amended to address these issues.

They also believe that the June 12 anniversary will offer another important time to emphasize that the present Nigeria Constitution is a recipe for unresponsive governance, which has been creating room for perpetuity of dysfunctional leadership without ample time to plan or tackle development needs squarely.

Finally, the National President Hon. Alabi crowned the message with a rider and kennels that “for a conscientious political will, focusing on freeing the Local Governments/Councils to thrive, nothing but growth and active rural development will be the result”, the leaders concluded.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) has began strategic moves towards ensuring that the party emerges victorious in the forthcoming Governorship elections in Anambra and other South-Eastern states.

One of such giant positive step was to appointment of the the former governorship candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Comrade Akunwata Ejoh Ojiba as the South East Coordinator of APC Ward-To-Ward Ambassadors.

Speaking during an interactive session at the formalisation of the appointment of Akunwata Ojiba, as the South East Coordinator of APC Ward-To-Ward Ambassadors, the National Coordinator of the campaign organization, Dr Mike Ozurumba, charged all state Chairmen of the Ward-To-Ward Ambassadors in Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states to close ranks and work assiduously with dedication towards achieving the political aspiration of the party in the South East geopolitical zone.

He commended the sterling leadership qualities of the South East Coordinator and expressed confidence that Comrade Akunwata Ojiba would make his impact felt by leading the party to victory in the coming election in Anambra State.

Also speaking, a member of the BOT, APC Ward-To-Ward Ambassadors, Chief Mrs Mellicent Okonkwo urged Anambrarians, especially the women, to join the mainstream politics by identifying with the APC, which she said had great opportunities for women as well as the dividends of democracy.

Katsina State Deputy Governor Alhaji Mannir Yakubu has received a delegation from the Standard Organization of Nigeria on a courtesy visit.

The visit was part of the Organization's commitment to collaborate with Katsina State Government to raise the Standard of public and private sectors in the state.

Speaking at the occasion, the Deputy Governor Alhaji Mannir Yakubu said the collaboration will also improve the Micro, small and Medium enterprises activities in the state.

Mannir Yakubu maintained that the public sectors to be certified by the standards organization include some ministries, Departments, Agencies and Deputy Governor's office among others.

He therefore assured of the state government's commitment to continue collaborating with the Standards organization of Nigeria to standardize all the Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the state.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Dr. Justine Nickaf said the visit was part of the Organization's commitment to commence preparation for the certification.

Dr. Justine maintained that the effort will ensure that the human capacity in the state meet the global standards.

The Director General, Katsina State Investment Promotion Agency Alhaji Ibrahim Tukur Jikamshi shade more light on the collaboration between the Katsina State Government and the Standards Organization of Nigeria.

Alhaji Ibrahim Tukur Jikamshi added that the State Government had already provided a piece of land to the Standards Organization of Nigeria to build a corporate office and laboratory for the certification of product in the State.

Somolu - Bariga Local Councils of Lagos State was agog yesterday as it played host to the apex leaders of the constituents including party stakeholders, mammoth supporters, Artisans, Traditional Chiefs, Religious leaders, other dignitaries with common agenda to pledge their unflinching loyalty to the eventful flag-off of Campaign preparatory to the July Council election in the state.

They gathered to witness a historic declaration by Hon Kolade Alabi.

The declarant, the incumbent chairman of Bariga local council earlier in the day announced his intention to run for a second term as chairman of the council.
 
The Chairman made the declaration at a gathering of All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and members yesterday in Ladi Lak primary school, Bariga.
 
In his opening remark, the Director General of the Kolade Alabi Campaign Committee (KACCO), Hon Adedoyin Banjo thanked the supporters who according him were very happy to identify with the Chairman's geninue intension.

Earlier, the former Chairman of Bariga Local Council, Hon Omoyele Oris, Hon Wole Diya (
former member house of representatives), Apostle Peter Oyewusi (Somolu Baiga Apex leader), and Bariga Local Council APC Chairman, Hon. Akin Mejolagbe took turn to spoke on how the Bariga Council zeroed-in on a consensus candidate in the person of Alabi to fly the APC Flag ahead of the election.

They stated that the visible transformation so far in Bariga needs to be sustained and as such the person of Alabi is needed for greater delivery of service, job creation, empowerment, infrastructures and other people oriented projects.

Responding, the standard bearer and the Executive Council Chairman, Hon. Alabi remarked that Bariga Council has remained steadily prosperous because of the consistent synergy existing with the constituents.

It will be recalled that the Council Chairman had since picked up his expression of interest and nomination form at the state secretariat of the party in Acme earlier in the month.

He thanked party members and supporters for the confidence reposed in him and for giving him the platform to contribute to the growth and development of the Bariga, he also used the opportunity to remind them that his administration will consolidate on the gains recorded so fàr to make the second term, one with steady development.

Worried by trend of defections from one political party to another by elected public office holders, the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has called for “constitutional amendments that shall make it illegal for anyone elected on a particular political party platform to cross-carpet to another party while still in office.”

The CNPP in a statement signed by its Secretary General, Chief Willy Ezugwu, the umbrella association of all registered political parties and political associations in the country noted that “to deepen democracy, engender social justice and improve the confidence of the electorates in the democratic process.”

According to the statement, the CNPP queried, “how can the voters continue to have confidence in the electoral system and our democracy when people they entrusted to represent them abandon them halfway into their tenure for personal gains?

“Where is the place of ideology in politics? Is politics about personal interest above the interest of the people we hold power in trust on their behalf?”, the CNPP further asked.

The statement added that “for Nigeria to develop, her electoral process must be safeguarded and confidence of the people guaranteed to reduce voter apathy during periodic and rescheduled elections.

“At the least, it is immortal for a person duly elected on the platform of a political party to defect to another without first resigning. It is akin to robbing Peter to pay Paul.

"Nigeria must at this time begin to make conscious effort to promote politics of ideology for the lives of the masses to have a meaning.

“The national assembly should, therefore, use the opportunity provided by the current plan to further amend the 1999 constitution to outlaw the act of defection to any party while in office without first resigning as there is the urgent need to end the now irritating political prostitution in the country.

“We are all aware that the current trend of defections is about protecting one's loots and scheming to take vintage position ahead of the forthcoming generation elections for mundane gains.

“Today, all that is required is for a corrupt politician to change party to either evade prosecution, end ongoing prosecution or to slow it down for a soft landing verdict.

“The world is watching and the current trend will further worsen the country's position on the global corruption perception index and we can get this remedied during the ongoing constitution amendment process”, the CNPP observed.

Ex-Anambra State Governor and Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 general election, Mr. Peter Obi will on Tuesday May 25, 2021 at Princess Alexandria Auditorium Hall, University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) by 10.00am, deliver the 4th Adada Lecture titled "Restructuring, Security Challenges and Development."

The lecture which is the fourth of it's kind to be organised by the Association of Nsukka Professors will have Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as Chief Guest Of Honour while the former Federal Permanent Secretary, Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa will be the Chairman of the epoch making event. Also expected as Special Guest is Distinguished Senator Chuka Utazi.

Speaking on the forthcoming event President of the Association of Nsukka Professors, Prof. Osy Okanya said that the Adada Lecture Series is a flagship program of the Association of Nsukka Professors (ANP).

"ANP is an umbrella non-governmental, not for profit body of all University Professors of Nsukka Cultural Zone (a zone which encompasses areas of 2 senatorial zones: Enugu North and Enugu East) of Enugu State in all Nigerian Universities and the Diaspora."

"In using Adada Lecture Series as a platform for the intellectual discourse on various issues that challenge the society, ANP seeks to contribute to the peace, progress and development of her contiguous society.

"In this regard, the inaugural Adada Lecture entitled “Intellectualism and the Development of a People” was delivered by His Lordship, Bishop Godfrey Igwebuike Onah, and the then Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Pontifical Urbaniana University, Vatican City and currently, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka.

The second Adada Lecture entitled “Harnessing Indigenous Technologies” was delivered by Engr. (Professor) Aloysius Attah of Boeing Aerospace Company, while the third Adada Lecture, entitled “Restructuring and the Nigerian Youths” was delivered by the former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu," Okanya said.

It will be recalled that Nigeria is among the top high burden countries and one of the two epi-centers of malaria transmission across the globe.

It has since the year 2000, continued to make progress in the fight against this preventable disease of which Malaria has been widely identified as almost high risk in the country of which its success story is incomplete without the mention of Malaria interventions by key stakeholders, Governments, donor agencies, NGOs and international partners and so on.

Bearing in mind that it is a critical target of the Sustainable Development Goals, there have been some landmark improvements with renewed interest in research and innovations in diagnostic methods, drugs and vaccines, and the development of control measures to eradicate malaria.

This was the trust and driving force of the donor the Ibru Foundation hence the supply of its Test and Treat Malaria Kit to the state.

Speaking at the event the Founder NESH and IBRU Foundation were all of the views that Malaria is one of the most severe global public health problems worldwide, particularly in Africa, with Nigeria having the greatest number of malaria cases.

They stated that the community-based study so far carried was designed to investigate the prevalence and risk factors of malaria and to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) regarding malaria among rural communities in Nigeria.
NESH has continued with the implementation of a cross-section of community-based study which was conducted with considerations on demographic, socioeconomic, and environmental information as well as KAP data were collected using a pre-tested questionnaire.

It seeks to provide massive awareness on the dangers of not using insecticide-treated nets (ITNs), and having no toilets in the house. Its channels of transmission, symptoms, and prevention of malaria, respectively. It was agreed that nipping it in the bud will yield a far-reaching result.

It is in a bid to fast-track the fight against malaria, that ALGON through the National Executive Council approved the participation of the association in hope of its trickle-down effect to the grassroots when implemented.

In the event, The representative of Hon Alabi Kolade David, ALGON National President who is the Chief of Staff to the National President had called for effective implementation, funding, and massive sensitization of the rural populace, Hon. Itiako Ikpokpo noted that information dissemination channels and right massaging on how to use the Kits and treatment will create a good opportunity for the communities to get informed and participate, noting that to ensure zero Malaria in Nigeria, funding was also a key driver.

He appealed to all councils and local governments to seek the support of their state Governors to identify with the kind of gesture from IBRU and WABIO Foundation as well as NESH to build synergy and explore channels of engaging such gesture.

He observed that by participating of the LGAs and Councils, the programme may offer a better hope to speedy eradication of Malaria which he also stated must include the pre-Implementation, procurements, awareness, in-process monitoring using Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and Quality Assurance Survey.

He conclude that such gesture will facilitate identifying how best to tackle Malaria scourge, and bring about communicating behavioral change and response to amongst Malaria ecosystem as well as understanding its health outcomes for better life and development of the rural populace.

The National President of the association of Local Governments Hon Alabi Kolade David has sent his goodwill message to all Muslim faithfuls as they celebrate this year's Eid- El-Fitri.

In his message from his Abuja Media Office, the National President observed that this year's event is one that must be used to bring together both Muslim, Christians and pagans together to reflect the true virtues and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SWT) who according to him had good relationship with all alike no matter the coloration.

He said that the gains of Ramadan must be reflected in the lives of all faithfuls moving forward so as to be a good model capable of attacking various challenges facing the country together from individuals, families, home front to Governments, as such will assist in overcoming them through conscientious resolve of all no matter the ethnic, religious or social linings.

He said that Local Governments and Councils in Nigeria are the fulcrum of valid examples and hence owe it as a duty to support the efforts of the Federal and States Governments to overcome all it's challenges.


Alabi further harps on peaceful and harmonious coexistence amongst all and to disregard all acts capable of causing disunity or all manner of disaffection.

He used the occasion to condemn in strong terms the height of incedarary comments, unpatriotic dispositions and rising incidences of killings, kidnapping and banditry across the country.

He said that the moment calls for deeper introspection on key elements of peace building to guarantee the safeguards of lives and property as well as supporting the efforts of the Governments in other to encourage them to do more towards nation building.

Muhammad Auwal Ibrahim, a correspondent with the Abuja Business Reports newspaper has been declared the winner of the inaugural Lekan Otufodunrin Journalists Award. 


Ibrahim, was announced as  the overall winner on Sunday at a virtual ceremony held to mark the 57th birthday of Otufodunrin, an accomplished journalist, and media career development specialist.


Recall that Abuja Business reports has reported last week that he was shortlisted alongside four others out of the 61 entries received.


The Lekan Otufodunrin Student Journalists Award was initiated to celebrate outstanding student journalists in the country. It was initiated by two of Otufodunrin former junior colleagues at The Nation, Shehu Olayinka and Late Yinka Akintunde.


According to the Judges report for the award, the story by Muhammad Auwal Ibrahim on “How Nigerian State Governments Poorly Interacted with Citizens via Emails During COVID-19 Pandemic, Despite ICT Advancement” addressed a critical issue of public interest.


“Ibrahim’s winning piece looks at how the Nigerian government, in the face of the global pandemic, interacted poorly with citizens electronically despite numerous announcements and publications that the government has put in place to address people’s concerns and inquiries during the pandemic.


“The creativeness and uniqueness of the story takes it ahead of other nominees who, to their best, also touched on challenges and failings by the government in their primary assignment.


“The story’s depth exposes government at all level continuous lack of understanding of the advancement of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in ordinary citizens’ day-to-day lives,” the judges stated.


While responding to winning the award on behalf of the winners, Ibrahim said he was delighted and stressed the need for journalism to be used to promote public good.

The first-prize winner will receive N70,000, the Second prize winner, N50,000 and the third prize, N30,000. There are other undisclosed cash prizes for other winners.


Ibrahim defeated sixty student journalists from various tertiary institutions nationwide to emerge champion of the inaugural competition.


Mr Otufodunrin also congratulated the winner and the runners up while commending the high quality of entries.


He said the stiff competition for the award is indicative of the capacity of student journalists in the country.


This is the fifth award named after Otufodunrin, Executive Director of Media Career Development Network.

Katsina State Deputy Governor Mannir Yakubu Eulogises Late Khalifa Abba Abdullahi

Katsina State Deputy Governor Mannir Yakubu has condoled the families of Late Khalifa Abba Abdullahi who passed away on Monday at his resdence Tankin ruwa Rafindadi on Monday after a protracted illness.

Late Khalifa Abba Abdullahi Age 72 , is survived by 48 children and many grand children.

The Deputy Governor on his arrival he was received by the younger brother of the late Khalifa, Mallam Abba Muzammil.

According to a statement signed by Ibrahim Musa Kallah,, the Senior Special Assistant on Press to the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu described the deceased as a great scholar that contributed a lot in the development of Islamic education.

Special prayers were offered for mercy on the deceased.

The National Executive Council (NEC) members of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has Congratulated the association's National President, Hon. Alabi Kolade David on his birthday as he clocks yet another year.

In a statement made available to The Street Reporters Newspaper, which was jointly signed by the Deputy National President, Hon Jega Marshal (ALGON Chairman, Kebbi State) and his ALGON Enugu State counterpart, Hon Solomon Onah, who is the NEC Publicity Secretary congratulated the National President and pray God to continue to keep, protect, bless, and equip him with more wisdom to lead the Association to greater heights.

They stated on behalf of the NEC that ALGON under Hon Alabi has evolved with several innovations and development that have direct bearing to the grassroots.

They urged Him on behalf of NEC to continue to lead, inspire and unite ALGON as well as bringing more purposeful results through his leadership policies and programmes.

Worried by the rising cost of locally produced food items due to transportation cost, multiple taxation system, and the need to ensure food security through the Agro-allied value chain in the country, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria through its National President Hon Alabi Kolade David and the National Executive Council has directed the Director General of ALGON Hajiya Binta Adamu Bello to liaise and fashion out strategies with the National Anti-Multiple Taxation Scheme (NAMTAX) with the aim of fast-tracking all modalities for the immidate take off of programmes and strategies to end the scourge.

This concern followed the directives as expressed the DG ALGON Hajiya Binta Adamu Bello who recalled that such measure has come at no other better time than now when Nigerians are facing fiscal challenges, and the need for the country to leverage on the Local Governments and Councils in Nigeria to raise the bar of it's IGR and promote fiscal responsibility.

It will be recalled that the Association's National President had earlier set up Committee to ensure the mitigation of various extortions, illegal multiple revenue collections, huge cost of haulage and thuggery against the smooth conveying of goods and services in the country through its collaboration with the National Anti-Multiple Taxation Scheme (NAMTAX)

ALGON had for the umpteenth times expressed worry over such extortions, thuggery on the roads in which many lives were lost in the recent times occasioned by struggle and use of nail bars to barricade the roads by way of Internally Generated Revenue and it's likes.

In it's meeting at the national headquarters of ALGON this afternoon in Abuja, the DG ALGON Hajiya Binta Bello commended the stakeholders and urged them not to relent in this fight frontally to end the menance. According to him, it will be recalled that the project seek to ride on technology through ICT, automated sticker system, fraud-free payment authentication system, surveillance, guyintelligence gathering and architecture, financial interface with project bankers, interface with all local governments and Councils in Nigeria for effective operation, it also hope to conduct a one month training for proper mainstreaming of product distributors and seamless tax-collection basket and agents to entrench harmony. NAMTAX covers all categories of goods in transit on Nigeria Roads, Railways, Waterways and Sir transportation component to bring about full monitoring, compliance and enforcement of zero-taxation of any kind in transit.

Katsina state Government has launched the distribution of Grains palliative provided by National Emergency Agency (NEMA) for the thirty four local government areas at state Grains store Malumfashi

The speaker katsina state Hause of Assembly Rt Hon Tasiu Musa maigari said the palliative was provided by Nema to cushion the effect of covid 19 to vulnerable house hold in the state.

Alh Tasiu Musa Maigari also recalled that during the distribution of first phase of Nema palliative 50 kg of maize ,50kg of Guinea corn 50kg of Millet to 65,000 house holds benefited across the state.

He explained that this is the second round of distribution of Grains palliative provided by Nema to katsina state.

The speaker noted that since the inception of distribution of palliatives one hundred and thirty five thousand house holds benefited across the state to date.

Alh Tasiu Musa Maigari thanked the distribution committee members for their efforts and called on them to maintain the tempo.

The permanent secretary Deputy Governor's office Alh Aminu Bazariye MNI explained that the first round of palliative distribution in katsina state was in August 2020 after lockdown.

He recalled that various organizations provided palliative to katsina state including CACOVID, VCF, NEMA, among others

Alh Aminu Abu Bazariye MNI said the distribution is the fifth in the series of distribution of palliative since August but the second round provided by NEMA.

The Chief press secretary to the Deputy Governor' katsina state, Ibrahim Musa kallah, in a statement added that the permanent secretary applauded the support of the members of the distribution committee for their cooperation that led to the success of the exercise.

At its 32nd Board Meeting in Abuja on Monday, the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), led by Hon. Odunayo Ategbero, has addressed far-reaching issues concerning the association.

This was revealed in a Communique released at the end of the well-attended meeting, which held at the ALGON national headquarters.


The Board unanimously applauded the National President of ALGON, Hon. Alabi Kolade David, the association's NEC, Management, Staff and organisers of the recent successful ALGON General Assembly.

The General Assembly is particularly historic as it was the second Assembly by the association in 22 years of ALGON's existence.

The BoT stated that attendance at the General Assembly was impressive and commendable, observing that both the participants and the proceedings, beyond its rich contents, were rancor-free.

The Board then appreciated the Speaker of the Nigeria's House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, whose address according to them was very reassuring and motivating.

The Board also thanked some State Governors who joined via Zoom like the Executive Governors of Lagos State, Kogi, Kebbi, the Nigerian Governors Forum Director-General, Development Partners, International organisations and other key stakeholders.

The meeting provided an opportunity to formally announce the appointment and welcoming into its fold, the new Board member representing the North-East, Hon Ibrahim Jalo Waziri.

Hon. Jalo Waziri is a former National President of ALGON.

Also, a member representing North-Central, Dr. Abubakar Adebayo Ishola, who was also inaugurated and appointed the Secretary to the Board was also formerly welcomed to the Board.

Hon. Dr. Cyril Okafor, the Board member representing the South-East, on behalf of the BoT, described the development as new omen to the Association.


Furthermore, the Board of Trustees emphasised some outcome, expectations and other importance of the recently held second ALGON General Assembly.

According to the Board, the successfully held General Assembly has set the tone for consolidating and prioritising capacity building initiatives as earlier encapsulated in its recent retreat in Lagos aimed at further positioning the association for grassroots developments in Nigeria through its 5-year strategic framework as extrapolated from the event.


The ALGON BoT members went further to clarify the position of the Association and the Office of the National President.

The Board unequivocally restated that the concept of “Interim Management Committee” does not exist and is not known to ALGON or its Constitution.

Hence, the BOT did not hesitate to condemn what it described as “the desperation and rascality of the embattled Maje who does not in any capacity speak for ALGON as he is not the ALGON Chairman in Niger state.”

His actions, accordingly to the Board, not only smack of “impersonation but libelous, defamatory and criminal” of which it will henceforth not tolerate but “will seek legal action.”

Speaking on the issue of national security, the Board encouraged the ALGON National President, Hon. Alabi Kolade David, to continue to insist on creation of State Police to solve security challenges and entrench national cohesion for peace and development.

Katsina State Government has concluded plans to compile Data of victims of banditry, cattle rustling and insurgency with the aim of giving them all desired support and assistance.

Katsina State Deputy Governor Alhaji Mannir Yakubu, who made this known, is also the Chairman Executive Council Committee on the improvement of welfare of orphans and widows of victims of Banditry, cattle rustling and insurgency in eleven affected local government areas in the State.

He spoke at a meeting held at the Deputy Governor chamber where the committee review the progress so far made by it.

He said enumerators have been engaged to compile data of the victims for easy access.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, the Head of press-sub-committee, Malam Abdulrahman Abdullahi representing civil society organization in the committee, said already the committee has visited the affected local government areas to assess the situation.

Igbo Women Elders Council, an affiliate of Ohaneze Ndigbo, has called on all residents of South East to give peace a chance in the region, issuing a 90 days ultimatum to South East governors to pass and sign into law, an Anti-open grazing bill in their respective states.

The group, comprising women above 60 years from Igbo speaking communities across the country, also called on the federal government to restructure the country to ensure true federalism or conduct a referendum for the South East residents to vote to remain in the country or not.

They stated these at an international press conference at Awka, Anambra State capital on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, which was addressed by Chief Mrs. Chika Ibeneme.

While rejecting the recent asylum offered by the British government to south easterners, the women urged Britain to rather pressurize the federal government of Nigeria to restructure the country to give all citizens a level playing ground and a sense of belonging.

Listing their demands, the Igbo Women Elders Council noted that “As an immediate remedial measure before the situation gets out of hand, the Federal Government must, without further delay, demilitarize the South East Region and its key outposts, including its named gateway neighbours by ending the current military and police siege in the region. We therefore demand immediate withdrawal of all the deployed military and police personnel on our roads, boundaries and other strategic locations in the entire South East.

“We call on the federal government to immediately end the policy of flooding our land and its outposts with compromised Muslim military and police commanders. This must be reversed while all the top officers we have identified above must be transferred out of the South East States and its boundaries. To ensure effective policing in any region, the percentage of non-indigenous Military and Policing officers, including senior officers, must be drastically reduced to 30% so as to allow indigenous officers to fill the remaining 70% of the total slots or positions and give the indigenous citizens of the region a true sense of security and safety.

“All killer herdsmen, clandestinely aided and protected by federal security forces who have now permanently settled in farmlands, bushes and forests in our land and our key neighbouring states must be moved out and relocated back to wherever they were brought from. Most of these killer herdsmen are foreigners, which President Muhammadu Buhari once confirmed that they are not Nigerians. If they are not Nigerians, why is the federal government’s armed forces protecting and guarding these killers? We therefore demand that the federal government must immediately begin repatriating these non-Nigerians to enable our farmers go back to their farms.


“The Federal Government must discontinue its clandestine policy of turning Southern and Middle Belt Nigeria into Sharia or Caliphate colony and respect the country’s secular status as enshrined in Nigerian constitution. All armed forces must therefore vacate their security cordons in all parts of Igbo land because we have discovered that the cordons by security agencies are part of the clandestine oppressive strategy to keep Igbo land occupied to ease penetration by some Jihadists elements to permanently occupy the land and a source of dishonest enrichment for security personnel manning these extortionist cordons.

“The Feral government must ensure that the constitutional rights of citizens to freedom of residency and movement, as well as ownership of property in any part of the country, is no longer misconstrued and misinterpreted as these guaranteed rights are only practicable in strict conformity with the country’s Criminal laws and procedures. The exercise of such rights must conform to Chapter four of 1999 Constitution and the ratified and domesticated African Charter on Human and People’s Rights Act of 2004, including rights of citizens of the country to peacefully and nonviolently reside in urban residential areas anywhere in Nigeria and to own moveable and immoveable properties. The Constitution does not guarantee any citizen right to live violently in another’s farmland or bush or forest and settle in same with small arms and light weapons and engage in terrorism and gang rapping of the residents”, the Igbo Women Elders said.

They also demanded that the Nigerian Government “must immediately begin reversal of the top security appointment imbalances and return to Constitutional Sections 10, 14 (3), 42 and 217 (3) in balancing the appointments and postings.”

They called on the “South East Governors to immediately begin consultations with critical indigenous stakeholders to draft an anti-open grazing and odd hours grazing prohibition bills and get them passed into law by the Houses of Assembly of the South East Region states.

“The South East states must institute a special probe panel to criminally investigate countless massacres in Igbo communities with a view to fishing out the perpetrators and bring them to book or hand them over to International Criminal Court (ICC) for international prosecution and victims of their atrocious activities adequately compensated.

“The Federal Government must immediately end the ongoing crackdowns on our sons and other innocent citizens who are being deliberately labeled as IPOB members and killed by security forces whereas the insecurities in Nigeria are creations of Nigeria’s 1999 constitution, which has continued to be a lie unto itself when it says “We the People….”.
Nigeria is ripe for a people’s constitution and true federalism.

“We demand the immediate release of all Igbos in secret detention facilities since 2020 and hundreds of citizens of Anambra, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi and Enugu States who are residents of Obigbo in Rivers State, including Citizen Elvis Chigbu and 109 others detained without charges since six months ago and presently held at the Nigerian Army Commando Base in faraway Bida, Niger State.

“South East Governors must genuinely enter into credible negotiations with Igbo youths to avert a major calamity waiting to happen in the South East if the current security situation is not handled with care. The governors of eastern region must convene a regional security dialogue with IPOB and all youth groups. If governors and Islamic clerics are meeting and dialoguing with bandits in the north, why is our governors not holding talks with unarmed citizens in the region to find lasting peace in the South East?”, they Igbo women queried.

The council then urged the federal government to “address reasons behind calls for agitations in the region and not to use force to suppress them”, insisting that the “South East governments should stop the ongoing raping of women in the region by killer herdsmen. While this is going on, security agencies are killing our sons. This must stop!”

The Igbo Women Elders Council threatened that if their demands were “not met within the stipulated time, Igbo women have their own way of tackling such crisis wherever they may be. If on the other hand, good sense prevails, and we hope and pray that the federal and State Governments adhere to this call and not push us, the South East women further to the wall, we will cooperate and work acidulously to bring peace to the South East region and Nigeria in general.”

While rejecting asylum offer to the region’s residents, the Igbo women said, “We, hereby, appreciate British government, for the recent asylum offer to the Igbo speaking people of Nigeria, but we, the Igbo women, have unanimously rejected the asylum by the United Kingdom in its entirety. The asylum offer was meant to remove the remaining Igbo men and open up our land for herdsmen to further occupy.

“How come that Britain held a referendum and exited the European Union (EU) but refuses to support the self-determination agitation by Igbos or put pressure on the Federal Government of Nigeria to restructure the country?

“Our demand from the British government is to pressurize the Federal government to immediately restructure the country and give all regions a sense of belonging and a level playing field”, they stated.

On Igbo Presidency, the Igbo Women Council demanded that “for Igbo Presidency, where in 2023 all political parties must field an Igbo presidential candidate to offer the voters array of choices to make. The emergence of a President of Nigeria of Igbo extraction is the only peace and economic revival in Nigeria”.

They then called on President Muhammadu Buhari “to as a matter of urgency relieve his Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Sheikh Isa Ali Pantami of the huge responsibility he is wielding to answer for all the atrocities committed against the Nigerian State. The Minister openly admitted that he was a fundamentalist at his younger adult age but today, he has reformed. No amount of reformation can bring a fundamentalist to reason correctly.”

They added, “Nnamdi Kanu is our son, we cannot disown him or wish him away. We may not like or endorse his over aggressive style but no Igbo man can fault his demands for justice in the South East. Therefore, if Sheikh Gumi could negotiate with bandits who are terrorizing, maiming, killing, kidnapping people in the North, we can as well negotiate with our son, Nnamdi Kanu.

“At this juncture, it must be understood that the unrest in the South East region is the aftermath of several years of marginalization and injustices against the people”, the Igbo Women Elders noted.

The Deputy National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Shehu Jega Marshal who is also the ALGON State Chairman Kebbi State has affirmed the support of all members of the National Executive Council (NEC) comprising all the entire membership of Local Governments and Council Chairmen across the Country in total support for the legitimacy of the leadership of Hon Alabi Kolade David as its National President.

This was after a well-attended close door meeting with the DIG Department of Finance and Administration Sanusi Lemu and the FCT Commissioner of Police Bala Ciroma where he led a delegation comprising the National Treasurer, the Director of Legal and Administration and some Counsel to lodge a complaint against one Hon. Abdullahi Maje the Chairman of Suleja Local Government Area who is neither the ALGON state Chairman of Niger where he comes from, or a member of ALGON National Executive Council for having assented with some thugs to break and invade the ALGON national office in Abuja on Friday 16th April 2021.

ALGON notes that such action is condemnable, illegal, unwarranted and henceforth, will no longer tolerate such uncivil brigand and self-centered brinkmanship by way of invasion, impersonating, publishing libelous claims against the present ALGON leadership led by Hon. Alabi Kolade David and his Exco, to smear his image or that of the Association or in any manner of using the name of ALGON to advance his personal gains thereby undermining the public confidence in the Association.

It will be recalled that the Board of Trustees of ALGON led by its Chairmen Hon. Odunayo Ategbero on behalf of its members had since disclaimed the same actions and activities of Hon. Abdullahi Maje and pledged unflinching support to the Alabi led Exco and the Director General of ALGON in the person of Hajiah Binta Adamu Bello.

The NEC therefore appreciates the State Exco’s, Chairmen of LGA’s and Councils in Nigeria for their unbroken support and loyalty, the NEC would also appreciate the Nigerian Police and The Judiciary and other Security agencies for their continued support in safeguard and maintenance of Law and Order.

ALGON counsel to Maje is to use the funds available to him to focus on the humungous developmental challenges and infrastructural gaps besetting the industrious Suleja Local Government that he appears to have neglected.

Finally ALGON at the moment has rebranded to address several challenges facing the 3Tier and will NEVER be distracted under Hon. Alabi led Exco.

It is drawing strength on its Constitutional powers and wide support from both the Federal and State Governments as well as MDA's, and Institutional partners.

ALGON now indeed is positioned as a breeding ground for quality leaders, to bring unity in Nigeria, entrench peace and serve as an Institutional memory for research and evidenced based development for the whole local governments and Councils in Nigeria.

Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has commended President Muhammadu Buhari - GCFR, and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces on the appointment and decoration of a new Inspector General of Police (IGP), and equally congratulated the newly appointed IGP, Baba Alkali Usman.

The ALGON National President, Hon. Alabi Kolade David, said the Association is confident that the new appointee will make the desired positive impacts in overcoming the several security challenges facing the country.

The Association said it is of the opinion that given the background of the new Police helmsman, fresh ideas, and different approaches would be seen in the nearest future to save thousands of lives and property as well as restore law and order.

"It is unfortunate that the Local Governments and Councils have always borne the brunt of insecurity, banditry, herder/farmers' clashes, Community unrest and armed robbery.

“Such vices have become an incurable existential threats across the villages and Communities, which must be given all necessary attention".

“As our Association is Police friendly, ALGON will continue to be available for any level of assistance at it's disposal as done in the past to identify with the Police Force.

“It is regrettable however, that the Local Governments and Councils that are supposed to be at the forefront of crime prevention lack the constitutional powers to do so, hence it's sustained call for decentralization of Police Force so as to have a closer proximity with poveyors of crime and criminality.

“To this end therefore, the new Inspector General of Police should demonstrate both hi-tech inovantion and well guarded intelligence gathering so as to live up to the confidence and expectations of all Nigerians.

“It is obvious that from conviction so far espoused by many Nigerians about IGP Alkali, coupled with his experience and track record, ALGON has no doubt that he will help in overcoming all security obstacles in the Country.

“Best wishes for the Acting IGP in the daunting task ahead”, Hon. Alabi concluded.

...Being A Response To An Open Letter To Governor Of Enugu State BY “Dr J.B.C Udem”

A response to this highly convoluted, mendacious, insulting and hate-filled write up by a presumably faceless Dr J.B.C Udem would not have been necessary, but for the condescending language, despicable, unsavoury and sundry allegations laid against His Excellency, Governor IfeanyiUgwuanyi which postured him as part of the problem in ESUT.

Hear “Dr Udem,” ‘Your Excellency Sir, May I inform you, in case you do not know that there is grave yard silence in the State regarding how you are supervising the affairs at ESUT since you took over as Governor’.

It is really an irony that “Dr Udem,” who shortly will be exposed for who he is and represents, did not notice nor draw the attention of His Excellency to this grave- yard silence in the five years of Professor Luke Anike which took ESUT to the Hades, but has become a subject of media blitz following the logical appointment of Professor Charles Eze (an Nsukka Man in his words) as the Acting Vice-Chancellor, alongside other principal Officers of the University on 23rd May 2020.

The truth of the matter is that there are so many “Vice-Chancellors-in-Waiting” who in their convoluted minds think that ESUT is a conquered territory which must function according to their whims and caprices even when the State Government and the University Governing Council are determined to correct the entrenched system failures before bringing in the full complement of Principal Officers of the University, (not just a Vice-Chancellor) to superintend over the University.

For such Characters, they will gather under all names, spread Goebbels style falsehood and propaganda, denigrate sections of the society and foul the environment of peace, but the “The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and the awesome God of David,” will not allow evil to triumph over good.

For the avoidance of any doubt, since the appointment of the three key Acting Principal Officers on 23rd of May 2020, ESUT has been on a trajectory of peace, optimism, and consolidation. These Officers have been in office for a little above 10 months, and have practically brought back the University to life after a near total collapse.

The full compliments of University Management will surely be in place at a time the Governing Council is satisfied with the ongoing administrative and academic reforms.

My disappointment with Dr Udem, who wrote on behalf of the Association of Vice-Chancellors-in-Waiting, Prof Chinedu Aguba and other disgruntled characters, is the malicious and unpretentious hate for the people of Enugu North Senatorial zone who are referred severally and condescendingly in the said write up as “Nsukka People.” It is elementary knowledge that there 3There are 3 Senatorial Zones in Enugu State known to any primary 2 pupil, namely, Enugu East Senatorial Zone Enugu North Senatorial Zone and Enugu West Senatorial Zone.

The sponsored petitioner correctly acknowledged Enugu East and Enugu West Zones, but chose to refer to Enugu North Senatorial Zone as Nsukka Senatorial Zone in his stupid and jaundiced efforts to prove rotation of only the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and not the Principal Officers among the three Senatorial Zones.

“Dr Udem” as the mouthpiece of the Association of “Vice-Chancellors-in-Waiting,” chose not to inform the public that since the inception of ASUTECH, now ESUT (about 40 years ago) Enugu West Senatorial Zone produced all Registrars of the University, with the exception of Mr S.N.P Nwankwo from Enugu East Senatorial Zone who served 5 years.

Thus, for the remaining 35 years, all the Registrars had continued to come from one Senatorial Zone, Enugu West. These, include Late Prof. Samson Ukpabi (Aninri) Prof. Festus Eze (Udi), DR. B.N Uzoigwe (Awgu), Barr.C.C Igbokwe (Udi), Mr Leonard Khama (Aninri), and Barr T,M Ikenwa (Aninri) who is presently the Acting Registrar. No ‘bloody Nsukka man or woman’ has ever been appointed as the Registrar of ESUT till date.

It may interest “Dr Udem” the spokes person of the Association of Vice-Chancellors –in-Waiting and Prof. Chinedu Aguba that Enugu West Senatorial Zone has not only monopolized the position of Registrar, but used that office to heavily skew the Nominal staff disposition in ESUT in terms of local government origin, in favour of Enugu West Zone, particularly Udi Local Government, as can be gleaned from the ESUT Council records shown below:

What is perfectly clear is that Enugu West dominates ESUT with 52.13% of staff coming from the Zone.

Udi Local government with 25.35% of its people working in ESUT means that it has more indigenes working in ESUT that the whole of Enugu East Zone and represents nearly 70% of all employees from Enugu East and Enugu North Senatorial Zones.

So, why would these characters have the temerity to speak about nsukanisation of ESUT? What impudence?

In IMT the dominance and Udinization of the institution is reflected in the staff disposition released recently by the institution in which nearly 50% of the employees are from Udi Local Government. This situation in IMT plays out in all institutions of Government in Enugu State, yet other sections of the State have managed to endure this unexplainable dominance.

The same Enugu West Senatorial Zone, Particularly Udi Local Government continued to produce Substantive and Acting Librarians from the inception of ASUTECH/ESUT until the emergence of the current University Librarian, Dr Ifeanyi Ezema in 2018 who outperformed all contestants for the post during interview, including a former University Librarian from Enugu West.

So, in the 40 years history of ASUT/ESUT Library, Dr Ngozi Ene, Mr Akpata and Mr George Igwebuike, all from Udi local government superintend over it for 37 years.

It is also on record that the same Enugu west with the least population geo-politically, has produced the greatest number of Vice-Chancellors from inception whether substantive or Acting, beginning with late Prof Chiweyite Ejike, Prof Mark Anikpo, Prof Ikechukwu Chidobem, and Prof Chidi Ugwu who served for over 8 months as Acting Vice-Chancellor.

Where then lays the unfairness in the claim to rotation by ‘Dr Udem” when previous appointments of Principal Officers have been skewed in favour of Enugu West?

“Dr Udem” writing on behalf of Prof Chinedu Aguba, the ASUU Chairman, complained bitterly the way and manner he was removed as the Director of Institute of Education and replaced with Prof, Ursula Nnabueze from ‘Nsukka Zone’, but failed to also report that the Vice-Chairman of ASUU ESUT, Prof Larry Eneje (from ‘Nsukka Zone’) was also relieved of his appointment as HOD of Applied Biology and Brewing, at the same time, for their brazen sabotage of the efforts of Management to commence academic activities on campus and save the university from certain collapse. What explains this level of selfishness and treachery?

Is “Dr Udem” and his sponsors saying that Prof Larry Eneje (an “Nsukka Man”) is inconsequential or that Prof Ursula Nnabueze who is over 10 year senior to Chinedu Aguba as a Professor is not qualified to be appointed simply because she is from Nsukka? What a Shame?

‘Dr Udem’ and his sponsors have to explain how the desperation of Prof. Eze would lead him to remove Prof. Aguba who had presented himself to the Ag. Vice-Chancellor as a friend, but chose to be overwhelmed and suffused by sectional considerations in championing for the removal of the Acting Vice-chancellor in several monitored sectional meetings, and even on the floor of ASUU less than 3 month into his tenure.

For “Dr Udem” to have mentioned the name of Prof Aguba in the now infamous employment scandal under Prof. Luke Anike is either that “Dr Udem” was not properly briefed or that his sponsors believe their role in bringing ESUT to its kneel is hidden. Nothing is hidden.

“Dr Udem” should interrogate how Prof Chinedu Aguba employed his 3 blood relations in addition to 4 four others when no member of his Executive could assist in employing even 1 (one).

In the employment scandal supervised by the former Vice-Chancellor, he allotted seven (7) slots to ASUU which Prof. Aguba appropriated to himself without reference to any member of the Executive.

If ASUU was given 7 slots, why was it that it was only the Chairman that submitted 7 names? ”Dr Udem” should also find out why Prof Aguba's mates who have more publications than him are still Readers, while he was rapidly promoted Professor over and above his seniors.

Even when the Congress of ASUU decided that no examination would take place without the release of Professorial promotions by the former Vice-Chancellor, Aguba ensured that the exams were held and thereafter had his promotion announced with over 99% of other candidates left out. No internal Strike was ever called by him all through Prof Luke Anike’s Administration, only for him to suddenly wake up to his “responsibilities” following the appointment of an Acting Vice-Chancellor. If this is not sectionalism, treachery and selfishness, we wonder what represents a bad labour leader.

For the avoidance of doubts, all those employed by Prof Luke Anike after the dissolution of the Governing Council were cashiered out by the new Council. Prof Aguba’s, “blood” relations were amongst the over 100 such cases considered as unauthorised employment by the University Governing Council.

Perhaps, what “Dr Udem” is suggesting is that the Ag. Vice-Chancellor should have protected the “blood brothers” of Prof Aguba so as to be in his good books.
“Dr Udem”, in an attempt to hoodwink the public reported that Prof Gab Agu was removed from Office as Dean of Faculty by the Ag. Vice-Chancellor and replaced with “another Nsukka man” on purported and unverified allegations.

‘In fact, he was removed even before a Committee instituted to investigate allegations levelled against him was inaugurated’. We honestly think that “Dr Udem” should have saved Prof Gab Agu the embarrassment of explicating his case in the Media.

The reality is that the University Management had set up a Committee to look into the petitions over the Deanship election between Professors Gab Agu and Osita Ogbu Nnamani which polarised the Faculty and made its proper functioning impossible. The Committee painstakingly looked at these written petitions, and also had audience with each contestant.

The Committee observed that the allegations which the two Professors levied against each other were too criminal and weighty to be ignored, and as such recommended that the two mutually accused persons should step aside to allow for a full investigation into the weighty allegations. These recommendations were endorsed by the Governing Council in its 76th meeting held on 11th February, 2021, and thereafter, Prof Frank Asogwah, as the only fulltime Professor in the Faculty, was appointed Ag. Dean of Law.

Did “Dr Udem” expect the Management to gloss over the cases of Result Mutilations preferred against Prof Gab Agu, or overlook the allegation that Prof Osita Ogbu Nnamani is not a full Professor in ESUT? Perhaps “Dr Udem” would have preferred the importation of a Professor of Law from another University for appointment as Ag. Dean, simply because Prof Frank Asogwah who circumstances threw up is an “Nsukka Man.” What a Shame?

Again, in the wicked desperation to create a nonexistent composition in the Management of ESUT, “Dr Udem,” his bunch of desperados and Nsukka haters spared no shame in misinforming the public.

The truth is that there is nowhere in the organogram of any University where Director of Works and Chief Security Officers are part of the Management team. As a matter of fact, the Chief Security Officer is a middle level Officer of the University.

It is not also true that Prof Frank Ezugwu is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of ESUT. He is currently the Provost ESUT College of Medicine – a position into which he was duly elected following the expiration of the tenure of the former Provost, Late Professor Anthony Ugochukwu.

So, why this inciting misinformation?
Talking about domination of ESUT Management by Enugu North Senatorial Zone, “Dr Udem” and his co-travellers must be reminded that in the recent past, the whole Management team was populated by Enugu West Zone.

For instance, at the time Prof. Chiweyite Ejike was the Vice-Chancellor of ASUTECH, Prof Festus Eze was the Registrar, Mr Akachukwu, the Bursar, and Dr Ngozi Ene, the University Librarian; all these Principal Offices were from one Zone.

As recent as 2011, the Management and Council was also dominated by Enugu West, precisely Udi LGA. Details are as follows:

So why didn’t “Dr Udem” and his co-travellers draw the attention of the Public to the above skewed appointments and skewed staff disposition in ESUT? “Dr Udem” should please do himself and his sponsors a favour by keeping to the popular aphorism that “those who live in glass houses should not throw stones”

The unwarranted onslaught on His Excellency and the people of Enugu North in the open letter to the Governor by “Dr J.B.C Udem” represents the mindset of desperados who are neither tutored by history nor guided by reality. ESUT will never fall into the hands of scavengers, who have made progress impossible in the University.

The said letter has nothing to do with the composition of ESUT Management, but everything to do with those who have assumed the post of Vice-Chancellors- in- Waiting and feel that except Prof Eze is intimidated out; their pipe dreams will never be achieved.
It is also on record that since the inception of Enugu State Polytechnic Iwollo, eleven years now, Enugu West has continued to produce the Rector of the institution till date.

Also Prof. Edwin Onyeneje from Enugu West (Udi) was Rector of IMT Enugu for 4 years and was succeeded by Prof. Iloeje from Enugu West zone (Udi) who was in office for five years. Who is fooling who? Where was the likes of Dr. J.B.C Udem and his cohorts then?

Why the desperation and hullabaloo for the appointment of a substantive Vice Chancellor of ESUT when it is obvious and certain that whenever such appointment is made, the appointee will be in office for five secured years which is the tenure of the office?

Why the stereotyping and blackmailing of Nsukka people all the time? What is the offence an Nsukka man? Enough is really enough.

The National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Alabi Kolade David has, on behalf of the association, felicitated with Christians on the occasion of this year’s Easter celebration.

He reminded Christian faithfuls to be joyful at this auspicious time of the year “no matter our obvious difficulties and challenges.”

The Easter message reads,
“On behalf of the leadership of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), I heartily convey the greetings and wishes for a joyous occasion this Easter.

“No doubt the resurrection is at the core of belief of all Christians. Without it, the faith professed is meaningless.

“ALGON hereby identify with you all at this inspiring and uplifting moments in hope of new life and fresh starts.

“Let me remind us all to be joyful this time of the year no matter our obvious difficulties and challenges.

“Through the resurrection of Christ whose light illuminates the dark moments of our existence, it is my prayer that God will prevail with domestic peace, protect our collective interest for unity and development.

“We shall not cease to seek better Service delivery through a democratically elected local government and Council officials throughout the country”, the ALGON National President, Hon. Alabi Kolade David stated.

...As Party Chairman's Action Tears Stakeholders Apart

Before the emergence of Hon. Okoro Eze led-executive of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) Igbo-Etiti LGA, the party members were united and had always worked together to deliver victory for the party.

Since Okoro Eze assumed office as Chairman, he has been holding clandestine meetings with members of a known divisive political group known as Bureau Politics ably led by member representing Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Dr. Martin Oke and Commissioner of Information, Hon. Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh to the detriment of other party members and stakeholders, who are not their members.


Their agenda has always been to hijack the affairs of the party and government in the Council, but they have always been resisted by other party faithful who are in majority.


It is obvious that Okoro Eze has no mind of his own and always consult with the leadership of the group, before taking any decision or step in the party.

There are several cases where the leaders of this group were allowed by Okoro Eze dictate the agenda of the party meetings.

This has not gone down with party members and stakeholders who have complained bitterly in different fora, but decide to lie low to allow peace reign.

The climax of the hijacking of Okoro Eze led PDP exco in Igbo-Etiti by the Bureau Politics group is the Easter Monday plan by Eze and some ward Chairmen he has forced and threatened to present a cow to the Hon. Aroh in appreciation of his support for the party and to urge him to prepare for Chairmanship of the Council.

Some of the ward Chairmen who were not comfortable with the move are being threatened by Okoro Eze who told them that if they fail to join them, they will be sidelined when Aroh took over as Council Chairman in the next election.

Eze has also reached out to some party stakeholders in the council to talk to their Ward Chairmen who were vehemently opposed to the divisive move.

Those who are opposed to the move had queried the rationale behind it when Aroh, who has benefited immensely from Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi's government is not the only person supporting the party in the Council.

Members of the group have been boasting that Hon. Aroh will take over from the incumbent Chairman of Council, Hon. Mrs Nkechi Ugwu-Oju, who they said she is not capable of superintending the 2023 election, because she is a woman.

It was disclosed that the media coverage has been arranged for the the arranged cow presentation to Hon. Aroh on Easter Monday to make it look real and use it as ploy to deceive the Governor Ugwuanyi that majority of the party faithful in the Council Area want Hon. Aroh to take over from Mrs Ugwu-Oju next year.

Following some falsehoods being peddled on social media platforms by some scaremongers and hired hirelings, painting negative security situations in Nsukka Local Government Area, the Chairman of the council, Bar. Cosmos Ugwueze has warned the detractors to desist from such act and always verify their information before peddling them to the public.

In a statement, he issued and signed yesterday, Hon. Ugwueze said: "The attention of Nsukka Local Government Council has been drawn to a false alarm capable of incalculable damage to the peace and security of lives and property in Nsukka Local Government and of course Enugu State, being circulated on the social media platforms, precisely Facebook by one David Ani, an Indigene of Nkerefi, Nkanu East Local Government Area, who is known to be hiding under the pseudo name of Odogwu na Nkanu to circulate untruths and create panic.

The statement further read:" According to him, in a post titled "Happening now" there is Gun battle between the team of ESN and military personnel and the military personnel removing their uniform".

"Not done with his large appetite for purveying falsehoods, he went on in another post to claim that "28 soldiers , 19 Fulani herdsmen down in Nsukka, Enugu State
last night".

"We have the responsibility of informing the general public that there was and there is no presence of ESN anywhere in Nsukka Local Government Area and there is no incident involving Nigeria Army, or Fulani herdsmen in any part of the council area.

"The general public is hereby advised to go about their normal businesses without fear as Nsukka local government is peaceful and calm.

" David Ani and his co-travelers are hereby advised to be more factual and reticent in their public posts and comments as they are capable of causing panic and serious security problems, not only in Nsukka, but in Enugu as well."

Following the giant strides recorded during his leadership as the National President of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Alabi Kolade David has been unanimously reelected for a second tenure.

His reelection and swearing in was one of the high points at the ALGON General Assembly meeting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Wednesday, March 24, 2021.

It is expected his second tenure will mark the beginning of a more robust strategic repositioning of ALGON as the General Assembly adopted a 5-year Strategic Plan (2021 - 2025). The strategic plan, geared towards making ALGON a more vibrant and respected association, which is responsive to its members and stakeholders, was a product of a 2-dag retreat by the previous administration led by Hon. Alabi David.

In his post-swearing in speech, the National President appreciated the confidence reposed in him by members of the association, through their delegates at the General Assembly.

According to Hon Alabi Kolade David in his acceptance speech, “I'm indeed humbled by your continued support.

“When we started this journey, we promised you that we are going to move with a new strategy. I am not standing here to tell you that we are moving with a new strategy, we have already started that journey.

“I am appreciative of your support. I am humbled and I am assuring you that I will not take your support for granted.

“Myself and my team, we shall represent you well”, he pledged amid applause.

Earlier, the chairman of ALGON Board of Trustees, Ategbero Odunayo, commended the national president for organising the General Assembly, insisting that security of lives and property has become daily occurrence, leading to loss of lives and deserves attention.

He appealed to members of the association to support creation of state police, urging ALGON members to lobby representatives of their respective constituencies at all State Houses of Assembly as well as the state governors for the concurrent passage of local government autonomy Bill recently passed into law by the national Assembly.

A high powered delegation led by the National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Alabi Kolade David with some members of the National Executive Council and principal officers of ALGON have paid a solidarity visit to the Niger state Governor Alhaji Sani Bello and their Local Government Areas (LGAs) and councils counterparts.

The visit is coming on the heels of incessant kidnapping and bandictry in the state.

During the visit the National President praised the efforts of the Governor during the turbulent times.

He said that as collegues in the grassroots administration, it was justifiable to identify with their brothers and the constituents.

Hon. Alabi used the opportunity to appreciate the doggedness of the 27 local Governments Area Chairmen and Councellors and urged them to continue to support the efforts of the State Chief Executive.

He also used the opportunity to thank the Nigerian Governor's Forum for their united efforts in the fight against insecurity.

Alabi also lent his voice and the opinion of the Association with a call for State police.

He said that such critical Institution has come at no other better time than now to help in the collective fight against bandictry, insurgents and general insecurity across the Communities.

Earlier, the ALGON Niger Chairman Hon. Bosso who was spoke on behalf of the Chairmen thanked Hon. Alabi for his leadership direction and sense of connection with the people.

He described Alabi as a true grassroots leader and pledged unflinching support to his administration in ALGON. He said that ALGON has truly begun a new trajectory filled with remarkable achievements.

There is this popular saying that until any organizations is challenged, it will learn to innovate and do things better. This aphorism captures a vivid description of what the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) is presently facing.

To consolidate the gains that ALGON has made in the past, despite all challenges, the Alabi Kolade David led Exco has made good part of his promises in rebranding the Association in line with visions of its founding fathers.

Part of the strategic direction include, but not limited to policies, planning, research, development, programmes and capacity building.

In his opening address, the National President Hon. Alabi Kolade David welcomed participants and said that the right time is now to effectively make best use of ALGON as a purpose vehicle for grassroots development.

He noted that such requires effective stakeholders’ engagement, partnership and collaboration which are all geared towards strengthening the capacity of the national Office, the local governments and area Councils for maximum productivity.

It was his view that functions of LGAs/Councils as enshrined in the 4schedule of the 1999 Constitution is huge and requires corresponding innovation to tackle them.

In his message to the participants, the Director General of the Nigeria Governor’s Forum, Ashishana Bayo Okraru, commended the National President of ALGON and the organizers for the initiative.

He said that the maiden retreat will no doubt reposition ALGON to formally take a decisive step predicated on setting best agenda for a rebranded association.

He used the analogy of good team spirit to send strong message across to ALGON for repositioning.


The two-day retreat, according to the Chief of Staff to the National President, Hon. Itiako Ikpokpo stated that by retooling, rebranding and restructuring ALGON through the lessons of the Retreat, there is every hope for the association to become more vibrant.

In his contribution during the group presentation, one of the Consultants, Dr. Asoluka said that ALGON needs to be well focused as an Institution, memory for Research, and evidence based platform for development.

Also speaking another consultant, Professor Jonhson Falade, noted that aligning with SDGs, the national planning will be well optimized leveraging on partnership and collaboration so as to bring about massive developments.

Earlier, the Secretary General of ALGON, Hajia Binta Bello called for sustainability of the retreat as such will help in strengthening of the Association.

Corroborating this view the Chairman of BOT ALGON Hon. Odunayo Ategbero stated that with the leadership direction of Hon. Alabi, ALGON is set to growth from strength to strength given the prevailing unity it is presently enjoying.


The Consultant Kalu Ukoha observed that if ALGON and all key stakeholders, NEC, BOT, Principal Officers and National Office unite to embrace this change, it will be purposeful in the future.

It will be recalled that the retreat with the theme Developing a 5 year strategic framework for Development is coming barely three weeks after the 3rd National Steering Committee for Preparation of Medium Term National Development Plan in Abuja of which the ALGON National President is a member.

This to ALGON is very essential and we'll situated to have a bottom up impact through the entire Local Governments and Councils in Nigeria so as to free ALGON from the wrong notion of contract awarding and all manner of being tagged as a transactional Association.

The Special Adviser on Media to the ALGON National President, Obiora Orji in a statement noted that “the appointment is in line with the present leadership’s resolve to reinvigorate the association in the daunting task of addressing issues affecting the efficiency, peace, unity, and constitutional responsibilities of the Association”.

According the statement, the appointment is with effect from Monday February 1, 2021.

The new Chief of Staff comes with a pedigree of accomplishment and excellent service both in the private and public sector.

He is the immediate past two time Chairman of ALGON, Delta State, and a two term Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State.

The National President enjoined “all members, NEC, BOT, and staff to cooperate with the new (COS) for more robust development. The National President wishes him well in the discharge of his responsibilities”, he said.
