EducationDo Not Pocket Your Plans For 2016 by Tosdam(op): 12:13pm On Dec 31, 2015
DO NOT POCKET YOUR PLANS FOR 2016

Today marks the last moment of 2015, as usual, everybody is strongly happy for the 'grace' and 'protection' provided by the Almighty Father who has always been faithful to us.

Some are currently in the church, mosque or shrine center to praise and pray ahead for better 2016. However, as we pray to forge ahead, we must be realistic with our prayers by putting down our plans, sketching it in a well definable manner.

Look at 2015 like a child who has grown old, ask yourself if you did achieve your plans in it. Sincerely speaking, no big deal in the coming year; it is like other years you have experienced but your achievements make it a big year for you.

Many a time, procrastination affects our plans because we don't write it down and we don't follow it like twitter. We pocket our ideas by just saying it out at the begining of the year and leave it there.

Another year is here again! Don't pocket your dream, don't pocket your plans, don't just say it do it. Get a diary, write your plans in it, time and date when you want it to be done.

You can do it, nothing is impossible. Go for the best, write down a big dream. Don't plan in your memory because you will end up pocketing it. Try it and see it.

It shall be a new year of testimonies for us in Jesus name. Happy New Year in advance.
EducationRe: 2015/2016 OAU Aspirant Thread. by Tosdam(m):
Hmmmmm... All I can tell you guys is to calm down. I can feel the pulse and sincerely speaking I understand the plight of those still expecting the second list to be released.

Truth be told, we can't all get it right because the angle at which we are viewing it is different. GAFAR is talking as a man in the box and you are replying as a man outside the box. Sincerely speaking, you are all on point.

It's obvious the management is not doing us right and something you guys don't know is that the FG has given universities management a fair autonomy and it has level at which they can intervene. Don't be shocked, Buhari is aware of what is happening in OAU. I saw Nuru Ribadu's article has regards OAU welfarism and nothing was done.

I don't want to write an epistle to ease the matter. COMRADEGAFAR, I know you will act beyond those guys if you were in their shoe, don't tell me same thing happened during our time because I know how I 'para' then too.

I will just beg you guys (freshers) to be patient, endure it and it will definitely be better. Don't condemn students' union, the management is corrupt that is it. You can't tell me protest has become a sin in a democratic state, even in developed countries they often protest. We only protested for a day and the result was 'MID SEMESTER BREAK'. Two Mid Semester Break in a session, the first one was initiated by NASU protest and you guys didn't blame them for exercising their right.
Protest is not a big deal, unionism is not to elongate struggle. There is unionism everywhere because our leaders are highly corrupt. Even if there is no Students' Union on campus, students will still protest in time like this. Don't condemn them, they are risking their studentship for you and me. If Nelson Mandela thought he was wasting his time then, maybe South Africa will still be clamouring freedom against Apartheid. AFRICA of OAU was sacrified for the security we benefit today. This same management fought for freedom (in fact for full chicken) during their time, so, why are do we see the fight for freedom as something bad?

You can throw it back at me that there are other means to press our demands like writing letter to senate, lobbying with this Ambassador of poverty and using the press instead of protesting and going home. I can tell you point black here that TY, the students' union president has sent several words in black and white copies to those autocrats, they held several meetings before the last straw that broke the back of the camel.

Nobody is happy with the situation of things and I can tell you that we students are really the problem of ourselves. I back the freshers points because I witnessed the reaction and joy of Bamidele and Ojogbon, the erstwhile PRO and Welfare Director under Ibikunle led administration when they heard the school has proscribed Union, they were happy with the situation on ground. They were comparing their adminstration and claiming to be better than TY administration. Theses guys were seriously playing politics in the name of Aluta. It's crystal clear that some students are promoting their names under the umbrella of Aluta, seriously shouting 'war' in vain.

One thing I am so sure of is that if the time to fight comes, we will all fight.

On this note, I rest my keypad and implore you to endure. We all want to move ahead and I pray we will move ahead in Jesus name. Leave Unilorin or other school out of the talk and let face our real problem.

In this struggle we shall give testimony of joy.

I remain Tosdadm, Language Arts part II student, Faculty of Education, OAU.
EducationRe: A Reason For Joblessness In Nigeria by Tosdam(m): 8:57am On Dec 30, 2015
The facts behind the scene is that our education is not well structured. Not well structured in the sense that we all want a job relating to our course of study. Meanwhile, Education according to Babs Fafunwa 1974, is the aggregate of the process by which a child or young adult develops the ability, attitude and other forms of behaviour which are of positive value to the society in which he/she lives. On a note of reality, graduates are now a real burden to the society they live in. Is it a must we all get a white collar job? The era of ready made job for graduates is gone, we need to strive, lobby, connect to get a job now because we are more than the jobs available.

Let stop shifting blame to government all the time, if they cannot help us let us help ourselves. Help ourselves by learning beyond the classroom, know many things about computer, have enterpreneurship skill and be willing to start small. Don't just sit at home and expect your brother or sister to find you a company that pays 200 thousand for a start.

However, Government needs to help small scale business grow by providing basic amenities. Electricity and security is highly important for any business. Let them reduce tax payment for small scale businesses...

Above all, our destiny lies in our hands. You shouldn't wait until your neighbour tells you 'bros go find work do'...

How To Be Successful
After School...

It's really a long time here and it worth saying 'compliments
of the season' to all
Narialanders. And sincerely speaking, I have learnt a lot here.
Hence, I bring to the platform a career talk which will add value to whom it may concern.

The topic 'How To Be
Successful After School?' is one of the many topics highlighted by Suraj
Oyewale in his book 'THE ROAD TO VICTORIA ISLAND'. In
case you don't know Suraj Oyewale; he is
popularly known as Jarus in Nigeria's Social Media Space, is
a first class graduate of Economics from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He
owns an inspiring career website www.jurus.com. I
pick the topic and some vital points
highlighted by Jarus to motivate and inspire all nairalanders here or you reading this piece into a glorious and promising new year.

Obviously, one out of the many problems, if not the most
challenging question to Nigerian undergraduates and
graduates is 'how to be successful after school? In relation to Jarus postulated points in 'The Road
to Victoria Island', I have adduced to the topic to explain it in a clearer form.

There is no gainsaying that many persons have postulated that there are few jobs available outside the school and many Nigerian graduates
are not employable. Outside the
highlighted facts, some Nigerian
graduates are really qualified yet they are not successful after
school because they lack some essential nutrients in their
ingredient. The following facts may help you as an
undergraduate or graduate. If you are an undergraduate, it
is still very hot for you.

PACKAGING: packaging is a key
to your success after school. Imagine goods without
package and the one with nice package,
which one do you think will sell fast?
Definitely, the one with nice package. Packaging makes you marketable. The way and manner you carry yourself matters. Imagine a pastor that wears a crazy jeans and a faded shirt to address a congregation, he would definitely be identified as a crazy person no matter the message he gives. You will be addressed
the way you are dressed.

FOCUS: so many Nigerian youths don't really have a well
defined goal not to talk of being focused.
They tend to be focused at old age or after graduation when there seems to be pressure. They
hardly think, they hardly stretch their brain- the brain is an elastic substance and it expand if you stretch it. I have heard so many youths say, 'they don't need to think' because they eat at the right time and catch fun when
they need it but life goes beyond food. Think a lot, set your eye on something big as a student and never mind starting small. Be expressive, have the desire to do
something extra-ordinary as it will pushes you to success. Always wish to be at the top in anything you do, don't play a second fidle. This will really
step you up.

GOOD COMPANY: There goes a cliche thus 'show me your friend
and I will know whom you are', this implies that the type of friend you keep describe you in
person. Always keep good company. Majority of your
friends (be it brilliant, religion, versatile)
may really help you. Even a lower half academic brilliance
friend may bring sincere advice to your
table but bad friends will always share you wrong ideas. No
company will employ an unruly person or a person without good character. A person with poor result is better than someone with bad character.

READ ABOUT OTHERS
ACHIEVEMENT: Let your favourite reading be based on other people achievement,
appointment, promotion and profile. What this does to you is that it motivates you.

NETWORKING: Most people don't really know the important of meeting people.
This really help a lot. Always have this attitude of 'just give
it a shot'. This will help you meet people who can add value to your life. Sometimes,
when you are brillaint but don't have connections, it can constitute a snag in your progress. Meet your senior
colleagues, alumni, and progressive minded people. Rich men don't just go to club to drink, they go there to meet people of their calibre. Meet
people that can add value to you but be careful so that you
meet the right people.

GOOD FAMILY: Don't be surprised, 'good family' is on this list. Yes, A good family
play a key role in the
success of a person. Good family provides advise and guide for
you all the time. There is always
someone you look forward to in your family while growing
up.

VERSATALITY: This really help a lot, most especially during
interview. It help you to get early exposure. You get many ability to discuss varying
subjects from your core specialization to
fields like sports, politics, religion and
career etc. This open doors for many things.

Finally, say few things about yourself and listen to advice
more.

THINK POSITIVE

Positive thinking deals with good thinking, leads to logical and constructive planning. Positive mind is a healthy mind which envisages successful result. Its frequently reduces tension and breakdown nervous. Positive mind helps to fight “worry” which is the greatest enemy of man.

I recently had a spy on why poverty extremely sticks with the poor and makes them poorer. The poor live amidst or evolve round poverty because they give room for anxiety which create the questions “how will tomorrow be?” “Yesterday was bad; hope tomorrow is not at blink?” They quickly forget that there is no tomorrow, the future is today and nothing to worry about tomorrow. They ignore fighting for today; they careless and shut off about today and deeply worry of the day yet to witness. I have heard numerous of scholars talked about “tomorrow” and I can say Dale Carnegie was highly on track when he said “the best possible way to prepare for tomorrow is to concentrate with all your intelligence, all your enthusiasm, on doing today's work superbly today. That is the only possible way you can prepare for the future”.

The chief difference between positive thinking and negative thinking is the result. Negative thinking is the chief actor of hypertension, crime and poor health. I have heard report of students that commit suicide because they have carry over in their courses but I don’t believe until a comrade in the university looks into my eyes and tells me blatantly “I will commit suicide; my CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is nothing to write home about”, initially, I felt it was a joke until she identified me in the usual manner “Bro. Tosin” have a look at the drug the doctor prescribes for me, I quickly used my pharmaceutical experience to glance through and it was Lexotan 3mg, I was shocked and nodded with pity. On that spot I concluded this is as result of negative thinking. She has cast her hope in certificate, she is worried of tomorrow and she has concluded within herself that all hope is lost.

Jesus Christ knew man’s mind when he said asks for daily bread. He knew man’s curiosity about tomorrow would bind him with tension. Thinking is the exercise of the brain and positive thinking does enhance positive result. Positive thinkers think on how to create, how to solve the problem of the negative thinkers and how to effect changes in their world. Negative thinkers never stop concluding “I will kill myself” “I will break bank to have money” “I won’t mind doing ritual” “It is impossible”, there result is crowned with impossibility.

Change your world; break yourself from the chain of thinking negative. Believe me, it is a negative thinking to think “Nigerian can never be a better place”, “I don’t think I can win just let me try”. Break yourself from the “world of can’t” and invest in “can” because life is not meant for cowards.

so what next?
Give sex education to children, mentor them and say NO to Child Abuse. So many girls are dying secretly, a girl of 14 gives an account of how a street brother impregnated her and aborted it without her parents knowledge.
EducationMentor A Child; Touch A Life. by Tosdam(op):
Thanks to project 25; 25 girls, 25 mentors. This team basically mentor girls, they counsel them and know their problems. I was privileged to attend their programme in 2013, represented a school as a teacher. I felt for girls/ladies at the programme; you won't believe some girls have been addicted to sex right
from Junior secondary school, a lady confessed how
her uncle exposed her to sex in the past and so many crazy things I don't want to mention. Most girls and boys are caught unaware.

Asa once mentioned in her track "THERE IS FIRE ON THE
MOUNTAIN" saying and asking "IS IT THE INTERNET OR THE
TELEVISION THAT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT WE TEACH OUR CHILDREN? Some family in Nigeria don't play hip hop in
their home and you keep wondering how you see their children singing it loud. Few days ago, my neighbour 5 years old
child was proudly singing shakiti bobo by Olamido and he got to a line Olamide said "E WOOF OUT" I suddenly cut him. Does he know the meaning of that line? He will grow to learn it. At times, I want
to blame mother for leaving their
children to neighbour while they go out to work. Though, most
families are living from hand to mouth, they want the best for tiger children, they want to leave
properties for their children when they die but they forget the bitter truth that their children are the first property. Our greatest wrong is the television and internet; while I was growing as a child, Nollywood was not as corrupt as this, in fact, you hardly see office setting in Yoruba movie then, it was incantation all
the way then (I mean the era of Lere Paimo) and you hardly see nude pictures on screen. Ask me what is
happening now? Most parents would rather fast forward a scene because of what they preach in
it, how many scenes will they fast
forward? Internet is even worst, I didn't use cell phone until my days in SS III. Lol, I don't want to narrate the nasty things that
happened then but I will to lampoon the society. When I was
in SS I, there was a guy that used to sit behind me, he comes to class with mobile phone ; unfortunately, a female friend picked her phone up a began to browse through, she stormed at his video and began to watch, ask me watching what? I advance towards the lady to see what she
was viewing, she never knew I was at her back, though she was hiding the phone as she watch,
sincerely speaking, she was watching porn. I was terrified, as in really shocked, she was carried away with it and I believe that day will be a waste day for her in the class.

Go to schools today and see JSS I using phone. Many a time when I come online on facebook I see crazy pictures of "watch 18+ banging one Ada from Calabar" from unknown guest, it is now a crazy world full of crazy things. I mean totally crazy, it
is only those who have been trained in the ray of tradition and culture that ignores those things, some youths can't control their feelings. The lady I cited earlier owns a baby immediately after secondary school, lol, what do you expect.

Mentor a child, touch a life... Say NO to child abuse and Give sex education to youths...

CAN WE HAVE THE CHANGE?

Fear grips me and tears run down my cheek as my mind reflects on the country misdemeanor that has been catapulted to the worst form of shocking. In a mixture of gloomy and trepidation, my adrenaline gland punch fast and my mind wander away from the “giant of Africa” we used to be in the past. How well I tried to send the right signal to my mind but it failed because I can’t stop remembering the mass burial given to the innocent Nigerians. The burnt sacrifice they have turned and roasted corns they have become in the hands of the evil minds of this failed society.

The silly rhetorical question that keeps ringing in my mind is “do we have a leader?” Truly, I need no reply like many of you will think but the question is strictly related to the suffering my fellow compatriot faced and experienced. These innocent souls really do not deserve it, they paid debt they have not incurred and nobody seems to care.

The pathetic situation has given me the temerity to discuss the problems of this country but if I must discuss with sincerity without profane to our progenitors who are heroes. Like I thought yester-year, so many people will think bad leader, mismanagement, corruption, ignorance, disloyalty etc. all compound to be our problem but they are definitely not. I will not take a second to unravel the truth; we are the channel of our problem and we work together to compound it daily. And, we never stop complaining like I am currently doing.

Everybody is strongly claiming saint but we share a little or many quota in the current problems. Although, the lion share goes to those I do tag “Ambassador of poverty” who have confidently seen their elected office as a means of becoming affluence and wealthy. They failed to believe the quote of Thomas Hobbes that says “A bad or good leader can never be poor”. They breach the rule to suit their interest and play the big boss. I won’t quickly judge them without shifting blame to the past heroes who have left behind the darkness of power. My little research to this ink has corroborated that our heroes are corrupted too, though, not as corrupted as current leaders and they should be held responsible for the plight their grand children face today. In those days a corrupt man is he that invest ninety percent and loot ten percent of national funds but this era leaders are ready to loot ninety percent while they invest ten percent; a typical representation of the Stone Age in inverse proportion to the jet age. Let me encapsulate my words by adding this; imagine the numbers of years Obasanjo, Ibrahim Babaginda, Balarabe Musa, Atiku, Buhari, Tinubu and many others spent in power and never stop acting the big boss of this country. Since I was born I have been hearing about these set of big guns and power drunken old bosses popularly known as “god father” who still remain the reigning champion.

Everybody is strongly claiming saint but we share a little or many quota in the current problem. Although, the lion share goes to those I do tagged “Ambassador of poverty” who have confidently seen their elected office as a means of becoming affluence and wealthy

Like many believed that the likes of Awolowo, MKO Abiola, Nnamdi Azikwe, Herbert Macaulay, Tafa Balewa and many more would have brought change if they are born to this era or still alive to witness this era. I once thought that way but haven’t sat myself down to reckoned deeply, I discovered it is mere comparison without deep foresight. If I was born into Shakespeare era, I would definitely speak Shakespeare English. So many people in that era behaved according to the era like we behave now according to what is on ground. Currently, corruption has eaten deep into the fabric of this nation. In fact, it has become a fighting case in every sector today in Nigeria.

We are really soaked with corruption and everybody is clamouring “Jonathan must go” like “Ghana must go” and Buhari must come, finally, Buhari is here like we believe there is a hope. President Jonathan is not serving the Nigerians right. In his era, terrorism has joined the league race while corruption supplements it.

Who is speaking about the Farouk Lawan and Otedola case? Hmmm, the case has been buried. Funny enough, Dimeji Bankole is now the current Presidential candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP). I could imagine how Nigerians chew his embezzlement saga and allow every case of corruption to be swept under the carpet. Now, SDP is celebrating Dimeji Bankole and nobody cares. I don’t just want to list the fresh corruption case in record, assuming the sleeping dog is dead. We are only engrossed to condemn a fresh case of corruption and allow it buries some weeks later.

There is no dispute about it that everybody wants to eats the national cake and allows others to wallow in abject poverty. How then can we experience change when our patriotic mind has been substituted with making quick money?

Can Nigeria still experience the better time? A typical YES because nothing is impossible. However, we need to change ourselves first before Nigeria change. Our orientation towards ourselves and the nation needs to change.

To you reader of this post; Can we have the change? How? When? Please Discuss.

Insecurity in this sense is not only the defeat the northerners have suffered in the hands of insurgent who fight blindly without a meaningful reason, in fact what reason can be attached to killing a human of their like if not pure wickedness. Outside the northern part of the country, some communities are still under the oppressor of armed robbers and street urchins who make the land uncomfortable for man.

The sardonic news so far is that even under the supervision of security personnel lives and properties is not secured. As a concern fellow fear grips my mind as I open my mouth to discuss the breaking news that flash on the screen daily; It is always a blast, robbery case, cult clash, assassination of noble people.

There is a big ulcer in my mind as I reckon that Nigeria is a mish-mash state where one thing is confused with another. Well, there are many factors to consider and I want nairalanders to discuss solutions to it.

It's quite an age I have visited Nairaland not to talk of this thread. It has been boiling here all this while and nobody seems to be too comfortable. However, there is a break to all this jack on jack go and we can reason and jolly together now.

Let me start by congratulating you for the success so far, it worths celebrating in case you think it doesn't. You started the journey and made it to this victorious point; although, the journey has been reactivated. My adorable colleagues feel at home and enjoy your stay on campus when you resume. Don't be too anxious to start lecture or finish your registration, your admission is for you and nothing can take it away from you.

Hmmmmm, let me cough this to you stylishly; OAU is not for the brilliant students alone but for the smart students who understand their lecturers, can decode lecturers focus questions and think right at the right time. Prioritize your time, eat well, sleep at the right time and jack wisely. Don't get yourself engage in so many things.

The G-Factor is specifically specific in OAU, get close to God, sing your desires to His ear daily and believe in Him. Those that have F9 here read to have it; hence, so many circumstances surround failure and success in OAU. And, I pray you will all get it right in OAU.

Chill on, enjoy the coke as I share coke with you all...

Thank You...
Poems For ReviewThe Champion by Tosdam(op): 4:14pm On Feb 22, 2015
EXPONENT

Exponents aren't castle-builders
They are soldiers
They sacrifice to prevail
They don't give up
They keep on.

Winners don't quit
Losers accept defeat
Athletes don't look back when they race
Wise man never stops thinking
But the fool keeps bragging.

Success response slowly to caller
And champion don't mind the time it comes
They never wait for the time to come
They are faster than tick-tack.

The wise shall inherit glory
But shame shall be the promotion of the fool.

Out of no time I will squeeze a second to forward this to you. Base on my research, I discovered that it is easy to gain admission to Ogba Femi if you know your way i.e knowing the right person without greasing palm. It obvious that OAU will never ignore you if you hit the merit mark because they believe you are a worthy candidate but if you have 1 mark left to meet the catchment area, you will be treated like somebody that scored 200.

OAU admission is easy when you hit the right mark. Also, your chance of gaining admission depends on the competition over the course. If you have some marks left to meet the bar you don't just sit back and expect quail from heaven. You need to pull the string hard because many people are fighting for limited space. Anybody that score 200 is due for admission here as far as he takes the right steps. Have seen students walking to unknown lecturer for favour and their need were met. So, you don't sit back in your cushion chair and be alarming I scored 250 and so on. Remember predegree are crucial candidate over Jambites.

However, it is not to say that OAU does not give admission without meeting anybody, it all depend on the course and grace. But you don't expect such grace when you choose course like medicine or law.
