Picture it this way.. The University is a house. ASUU is the landlord, the lecturers are the children. A tenant is the FG. Another is the SG. The landlord needs his house renovated and the children well catered for. The tenants, whom he's friendly with just wouldn't pay for, say, 4 years now, taking his leniency and mild temperament for a ride. If you were him, how would you approach the situation?
Thank u my honourary questionaire, there is always a contract between a landlord and a tenant. An occupant of a house surely knows he will pay to keep his head under the roof, and for him to remain in the house he need to sit the landlord and tell him what and what ve been hindering him to pay but if the landlord insisted on having his money, he can only but drag his tenant to court for redress not to take law into his hand by locking up the building. Despite the redress in court, the tenant will still remain the occupant until the case is finalise. Let view it in this direction, if the landlord doesn't take note before allowing another tenant in, he may regret than earlier. Therefore, ASUU(landlord) should keep filing the case against his (tenant) F.G, and the tenant will still remain in the house when the case is still in progress... Thank you |
Nwajiogeri: @tosdam, you suported the motion that strike is a wrong approach, but you failed to highlite other possible alternatives apart from dialogue. How wild dialogue possibly solve the problems when ASUU has had loads of dialogues in time past all to no avail?Thank u my amiable audience, i ve elaborated that going on strike is just like toying with the lives of our future leaders because each time we go on strike the student suffered it. I suggested two means, the first which goes to the educationist who so much belief in power of Aluta and the government who failed to fund our educational sector. Hence, peaceful dialogue is still the only way out to get their right... The two body should always meet time to time to discuss the lapses in our educational sector not until when things get worst beyond dialogue. It is very lucid that our educational sector meet with F.G only when they ve problem which ought not to be, to give out the best they must always meet time to time to discuss what and what we need.... Education is not something u suspend, it need research to meet with the world.... Even to this current strike, the strike will not be called off if the two body don't work together and dialogue a reasonable agreement. We can't just keep locking school doors time to time and expect the best to come out.... That is why i doff my cap for President Jonathan who has seen hope in national conference, it is all about peaceful dialogue, not just bragg around the street and destroying public properties. Thank you. |
Caracta: The essays will be scored but we'll only release the result of the first four. We hope you don't mind.U can't do dat, u ought to show the result of all, if u release only four wat it means is dat other write-up has not been screen.... |
Am done, but i discover my post ve been hidden... Omo e no easy to type with phone, i used almost an hour to type.... |
Elliotwiz1: I just observed that now NL allows only about 5524 characters, when i was typing it i typed it twice and only the first part took about 6000 characters, i think we should have about 3reserved space, please don't forget to PM the contestants when your decision is madesame here 2, unless u use pc. D 5000characters can't contain too lenghty essay... Anyway u will ve to re-size ur essay, cutting out some point, atleast if an examiner as u to write 200words, u will know how to do dat n still make use of ur point.... |
Poo, sigh... Guy i know say wey go reserved space, na God say make check d thread sha, i for don evict automatically.... |
CONTESTANT 17 STRIKE A WRONG APPROACH TO NIGERIA'S NIGERIA EDUCATIONAL PROBLEM.(supporting) It is blatant that strike is a wrong approach to Nigeria's educational problem. There is no gainsay that Nigeria is sinking under the yoke of the wrong notion. A major motion to be considered is strike a wrong approach in nigeria educational problem which will be articulated in this pieces of writing. First and foremost, what is strike? Strike is an idea adopted by a group of people to paralyse working activities with the sole aims of influencing government to benefits themselves. The meaningful question that should ring our mind is that "has strike helped to solve our educational problem? Capital NO! Our educational sector has suffered and declined in recent time due to its years to years break down in academics. History has clearly shown that strike is a wrong approach to educational problem. According to report in 1978 a delegated body called ASUU was formed, using strike to seek their right. In august 1988, the union went on national strike and resumed in 1990, after which another strike was again banned in 23rd, august 1992 and called off in september 1992. The organised body further strike in 1994 and 1996. After the return to democracy in 1999 and 2002 another strike sparks off. In 2007, the union went on strike for three months, in may 2008 the body had one week warning strike, in june 2009 the union ordered it members to proceed on an indefinite strike which end in october 2009 after signing a memorandum of understanding with the government to call off the strike. Currently, the body has engaged in another strike which begun on the 1st of July and is already four month old, yet no solution to educational problem. With this record how can we move ahead and meet global standard of education. During this current ASUU and Asup strike, some said student of Delta state university were shot dead and injured after protesting for resumption. Some undergraduate student were arrested for involving in a #2 billion fraudulent activities, while some female student were busy playing harlot in the street. There is a saying that "idle mind is the devil factory" student who neither recieve lecture nor work will easily accomplice for crime. It is highly ridiculous that our final year student who ought to have finish their project by now are on street roaming about, definitely there is no gainsay in the speech of our amiable minister of finance Mr. Ikoje Iwala who said Nigeria graduates are "demi-baked". Moreso, extending the years to be spent by an individual in university to 6 to 7 years on a course of 3 to 4 years. Taking into account to some minor strike in Nigeria university e.g the lasu strike and mass protest in 2011 which led to destruction of public properties and threat to the resident of Lagos, yet the hike of fees remains the way it was published despite the strike. Also,February 23rd,2011 oau door was shut under the renowned V.c Faborede paralysing academics activites on the increament in acceptance from #2,000 to #20,000 yet the strike has no effect till date. Many strike had taken place in our educational sector only to jeopardize the student time. It is important to consider the measure, that each time Nigeria university goes on strike, vandalism take place as a result of protest causing the Government to repair the damage properties with the money set aside to take care of other beneficiary things. E.g lasu strike of 2011, led to the destruction of street lights, and buildings and schools etc. Some of my adversary may tends to make a futile attempt that strike has helped in seeking right in our education sector. Which is capital NO! Because there are many ways we can seek right from the government without going on strike to jeopardize the time of our glorious future leader. Is there anyone here today that has been to Nigeria federal institution without experiencing the pain of strike to stand up, as you can see no is standing, how on earth do we want to have better education for our children if we continue this?. In a nutshell, how can this deplorable notion be averted? This is a meaningful question that should perturb the mind of every meaningful Nigerians. Beside, every cloud has a silver lining, both educational body and the government has a vital role to play. The educational body should see peaceful dialogue as a means of achieving it aims, and still it will not disturb academic activities in our various institution. Also, our government should play their role in funding Nigeria education to the brim and be ready to listen to the side of the delegated body when the need arise. As well, student should stop emphasizing on Aluta on an issue that can be settle amicably without going on strike or protesting because they are the one to suffer it if school door is close. If this is taken into consideration we will all have a smile and enjoy the standard of education in Nigeria. Thank you. |

THINGS FALL APART I reside in a country where things fall apart, where we preach love and practise hatred, pray for blessing and wish other curse. Where fanaticism is the true religion, spilling innocent blood is libation, and egotism is normal. Where black gold is abundance, land is fruitful and hunger rock our stomach. I reside in a country where prejudice substitute discern, where speaking for oneself is a sin because truth is bitter. Where violence and strike is a means of seeking right where teaching is a wrong profession because of the meagre pay. Where we vote for democracy, and receive dictatorship. Where we pray for revolution, and fear death, where adult fear kidnappers. Things fall apart, everyone is groaning, nevertheless we are all to be blamed. POET: TOSIN DAMILARE IYIOLA |

eni orisha: with d way thins r going on this tread i am affraid d tread might not serve d laudable objective 4 which it was created in first place.Do not cruxify because of mere grammaticar errors,it derails n distracts attention, meanwhile do u know dt we sometimes make mistakes when we speak or write in our individual 'mother tongue' ? so if this is unavoidable, to me mistakes on adopted language will be inevitable;or don't u think that had we known it all, there won't be d need to apply to study english lang. - related course again.eni orisha, true fact u have said... Y should we be discussing mistake instead of discussing the main issue. I don't know when nigeria student will stop behaving this way, let stop looking out for our mistakes and face the reality.... For ur question, i don't think so, it is not part of the course.... |
All i can see is Sorry, application not successful.... Wat happening... |
I'm studying Law but my brother wants to study English Language. I was flabbergasted reading this thread. Pls, try to be checking ur diction before posting any thing here. It is full of blunders. Grammatical Blunders! I don't like to sound condescending ooo but it is a shame to d course itself.
lol, barrister it will be well... |
Pls, let this "thread for English and education student. Both undergraduate and graduate" be graced in front page... |
I'm very sure there are lots to be discussed in this field, lots i repeated rather than posting away from the asked question above. Am a fresher in this field, just gained admission to read the course. I like the course and wants to know beyond. Let handle our post with mature minds and voice to the air what is expected to be heard or to be known. Let me share my experience in this area, i had been nurturing law right from my day 1 in junior secondary school not only because i can argue for & against with genuine reasons, because i make it my passion. I had seen so many lawyers on screen as well as in my environment, indeed my brother was one which actuate my spirit to become 1 too. Not more than a year ago i discovered my real career from my nebulous vision, i discovered am not only a born teacher but also going to be one useful element in the field of education. The idea of become a future lawyer suddenly washed away, and i wish to become a renown professor in a diverse knowledge as God promise for me. English and education is a discipline that will give me a wonderful opportunity to two honour and sure employment after graduating, i.e i don't have to be legging around with my certificate in search of job and i can as well work outside teaching depending on what i intend to do with my certificate. English education had helped the society n will keep helping it, the update of english day in day out in communication cannot be overemphasized. We need trained educationist in this country not those who end up in the field just because they can't get a job. I rest my case here and leave the undergraduate and graduate in this field to shed more light and not to derail the post, thank you... |
GREAT NIGERIA STUDENT!!! Despite the ongoing strike of obdurate ASUU & FG alots can still be discussed in our field. This thread is strictly created for the benefits of students in this faculty. We wants you as an individual that belong to this field to share your experiences in your various schools; tell us why you chose english & education as a career and what you will like to become with it, and why you prefer it to other fields... Also, to help the freshers and dreamers in this field to know what they should be expecting and ways of tackling it. The course outline, how they can graduate with top grade. What help the course is offering to the society.... Thank you... |
