PLS, fynest i need u to forward this to make the front page.................... DECLINE IN STANDARD EDUCATION IN NIGERIA https://www.nairaland.com/1552082/decline-standard-education-nigeria#20156637 |
DECLINE IN STANDARD OF EDUCATION IN NIGERIA. There is no gainsaying that the prestigious standard of education has drastically declined. Education is no more what it used to be, the value and standard of education has loosed as a result of indiscipline in the sector. What prompted me to ink this article is the mass failure of students in the just concluded Joint administration matriculation board (Jamb) exams. From the look of things, it is lucid that few youths now have the zeal for education while others are mere sycophant looking for short way to success. The road to success is narrow; hence, any student that has desire for success in his/her education should endeavour to burn midnight oils or candles. But, it is pathetic that the common slogan today is “no room for failure” paving way for student to bribe pedagogue, lecturer, and professor to get exam questions and rehearse on before the exam time, all in the name of success. The most worrisome of the issue is parents who ought to be the messiah guiding and directing their children or wards in the right paths, willingly support them to get engage in examination malpractices by paying for the so called “logistics” and buying their children exam questions to rehearse on. The common believe these days is now “connection” which is a typical epitome of “tribalism” and “favouritism”, just as the way students believe in the general concept “he who knows way, knows the book” which make them become indolent. Examination is no longer the best way to determine merit student as so many unqualified students had gained admission into tertiary institutions at the expense of the best. The paining part is that ninety-nine percent of them can’t defend their certificate, giving bad names to the country by engaging in cultism and prostitute. The keen interest of going to school is no longer there, poor students are likely to end up not going to school as huge amount of money is needed to fund their schooling, lecturers sell out handout compelling student to buy or they fail and schools increasing fees yearly, while scholarship award is at less. In addition, the dressing attitudes of students these days is highly uncultured, students dress shabbily and obscene on campus. The ladies put on kinds of mini skirt that are capable of sending the mind of a man to lust. Ladies in obscene dress is simply saying “am available, come and have me”, they sometimes behave and dress like high way deceit virgin. How would you describe the male counterpart as well having dreadlock on their heads to school boastfully, appointing themselves as cultist? Some of them carry laptop around in the name of yahoo-yahoo, they are proud fraudster. These era students are going to school for fashion and fun fair. Obviously, students of nowadays walk majestically to lecture room like a king, even when they are late. Amoral and indiscipline is now order of the day as students have no fear for lecturer or professor again. To make the case worse we often hear cases of lecturer, pedagogue and professor sleeping with female students to pass them in their exams. Likewise, we often hear numerous of cases of lecturer being beaten up by students for snatching one of their girl friend. Lecturers no longer have zeal for lecturing as they believed they receive low pay, they only go to classes to brief students and place them on research and mark attendance to have their money at the month. Compare to ancient time when lecturer go extra mile to impart knowledge and culture to students, than now when lecturers hardly have time for them, going on research to abroad from time to time leaving students to the big issues. Inclusion, how can this malicious acts be curbed in our institutions and schools? Well several steps have been taken which seem abortive as it was not done with loyalty. Firstly, all hands must be on deck. The parents and the government have the greatest role to played, parents should devote a peculiar time for their children to imbibe moral and culture to them as a child is the product of the home. Also, government should strictly look into educational sector because developments of a country solely rely on better education for our youths. The government should set a panel that will curb the excessive power of lecturer or professor molesting students or who admit student through back door and will be severely dealt with or fired. Also, to give a law beyond expel for students engaging in criminal and corrupt acts on campus. Finally, if all these are put to check our education in Nigeria will be normalcy. The Senate President, David Mark, has called on striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to return to work. The Senate president urged the lecturers to consider the state of the education sector and save it from deterioration According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Senate President, Paul Mumeh, in Abuja, Marks made the plea while commissioning a lecture theatre donated by Sen. Kabiru Gaya to the School of Management Sciences at the Kano State Polytechnic. He also advised the Federal Government thread softly on the issue of the ASUU strike, rather than resorting to the use of the sledge hammer. He said, “We have reached a situation where hard line positions would worsen the situation. My plea to ASUU is to resume classes while negotiation continues. “The strike has done enough damage to our universities. They have also made their points and I think we should reason together and end this matter once and for all. “Nobody, including the university teachers can be said to be enjoying this crisis. It is a huge cost on government, parents, the management, staff and students themselves. “ASUU over the years has enjoyed the sympathy of Nigerians. I am afraid, if they remain adamant on this, they would lose the sympathy and support of the people.” Mark emphasised the the inevitability of quality and functional education for the survival of any nation, saying that everything needed to be done should not be compromised, to save the education sector. The Senate President praised Gaya' gesture and appealled to corporate organisations, individuals and groups to emulate the senator and join hands in developing the education sector. The senate president also commissioned other projects, including solar power water bore holes donated to the Nigeria Army 3 Brigade Command, Bukavu Barracks, Kano State. Other bore holes commissioned were donated to the Police Command, Bompai, Kano, Nigerian Prisons formation and Kano Golf Club. Sen. Gaya said the projects were part of his commitment to give back to the society in positive ways and ultimately address the water supply deficiency faced by the people. http//:www.thenigerianvoice.com/nvnews/130279/1/mark-pleads-with-ASUU-to-return-to-work.html |

I CAN’T WALK ALONE Honey of my life, Without you my life is bitter, I never have a sound sleep since seeing you, Your reply to my proposal weaken my active bone, Without you I can’t walk alone My thinking is occupy by you alone, All I can write after my reading is “I love you”, Your lovelorn make we wander, Without you I can’t walk alone. You I see in my dream, When I wake up without seeing you, am helpless, Love made me fool, Without you I can’t walk alone. Your blonde made me bite the bit of my fingers, Belle of my choice, Without you I can’t walk alone, Your beauty is a price from God, It lures me into lust ending in love, My love for you is never a deceit. My heart is free for you, My lobes is calling for yours, Come and occupy it, Without you I can’t walk alone. Age flies like time, Season harsh on me, Must I grow grey before you accept my proposal? The magistrate is awaiting us, But without you I can’t walk alone. My ribs are incomplete without you, Occupy my heart, Hand my hand, Support my leg, And we shall walk together. |

Tell them Tola, English is a major subject for all, irrespective of your department as far as you are still learning. Mathematics, i laughed wat there in maths. I am a prospective Art student, i did Further maths and lambasted mathematics like baby. I represent my school in Cowbell, Macmillan, and Vital link competitions...... I conquered most science students in my class, though i don't know anything in front of some of my oga here. Hence is a yardstick to say Maths supersede English, I can use Nineties method to solve mathematics questions but i can't use nineties method to express grammar or write now because language is dynamic e.g before, street is write straet, bishop is biscoep, offer is ofer, upon is uppan, fifteen is fiftyn etc. English is language, language is communication and without communication no association. Imagine if there is no communication how will you know maths. In short, No communication No life............................................................................................................................ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Take or leave it, English na the father of all subjects, maths can't exist without it but english can do. That tells you that maths is depending on english while English is independent |
UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL. BY: TOSIN IYIOLA DAMILARE It is only a blind and deaf person that will agree that Nigeria is currently a pacific country. Without blindfolding one another with sooth words Nigerians is not in any means living as a united people. They have been segregated over years by some powerful fellows. Am always imbuing of worrisome when I hear people saying Nigeria is in unity. If truly we are, why do we often hear cases of man inhumanity to man, intricacy cases of innocent people being killed by a group called BOKO HARAM? The BOKO HARAM are massacre in nature, killing fellow countrymen like animal, bashing people to death like goat, and setting properties ablaze to burn to ashes. On what reasons should we deceive ourselves calling black white? When we knows it is black. Nigerians are not living like brothers and sisters rather than enemy to enemy, we abase one another and bring misfortune upon ourselves. The menace of BOKO HARAM can be traced to lack of unity and solidarity. Indeed, if unity we truly stand on, it will be difficult for corruption, selfishness, maladministration, indiscipline, injustice and other social vices to penetrate into government parastatal and amidst the masses as a whole. No other words, Nigerians are the architect of their problem. In lack of love and disloyalty we associate together. We elect selfish leaders in egocentric of our pockets and expect miracle overnight. We ourselves are the problem of ourselves; we are the maggot in the faeces making it deleterious, we preach love but fail to practice it. We pretend to be magnanimous in our act but we are beastial in our thinking. We don’t sow the seed of love among our youths but we expect to reap it. Perhaps, the problem of this country is convoluted to comprehend as our leaders’ characters depict they never care for the masses, they enslave us and rule with disdain. Corruption, selfishness and mismanagement have become culture and order of the day. Without love we can’t achieve something, even the bible confirmed it, says in love everything is acquire, love your neighbour and enemies like yourself but reverse is the case these days. To combat and eliminate the problems of this country, we need to practice love and stand firm on solidarity and unity. Kick against corrupt leaders, and abnegate man inhumanity to man irrespective of culture or tribes. In one voice vote for a leader who has the welfare of people at heart, then it will be “unity we stand and divided we fall”. |
Congratulation to us admitted students, and for those still waiting, all hope is not lost yet. There is still V.c lists, and you should know it is for the well connected ones. And, the greatest connection is Almighty God.................................................................................................. |
AIR POLLUTION By: Iyiola Oluwatosin Damilare The effect of air pollution need to be emphasized on as so many factors has occurred claiming lives. The subject matter need to be studied and analyzed with ease for better understanding of dear reader of this health talk. It is not only that air pollution is inimical to our environment, it is to our health. An acceptable definition from reliable source, explained that “air pollution” is the introduction into the atmosphere of chemicals, particulates, or biological materials that cause discomfort, disease or damage other living organisms such as food crops, or damage the natural environment or built environment. A substance in the air that can be adverse to humans and the environment is known as an “air pollutant”. Pollutants can be classified as primary or secondary. Usually primary pollutants are directly produced from a volcanic eruption, the carbon monoxide gas from motor vehicle exhaust or sulfur dioxide released from factories. Secondary pollutants are not emitted directly. Rather, they form in the air when primary pollutants react or interact. (1) Strictly from the definition, the existence of air pollution is mainly from anthropogenic sources (manmade sources) mostly related to burning different kinds of fuel. From mobile sources, the release of carbon monoxide into the air by cars, aircrafts, and trunks etc pollute the air making it harmful to man, and industrial release of gasoline and inflammable into the air is also a major pollutant of air. Obviously, air pollution is deadly and capable of sending man to a journey of no return. Air pollution causes many types of diseases. For example, human being can develop asthma due to an air polluted environment. Air pollution can also cause inflammation of the lungs and infections, leading to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Accumulation of smoke in the lungs can cause a disease knows as emphysema. Lung cancer can also be caused by air pollution. Lastly, air pollution can lead to heart disease including heart attack and stroke. Pollutant associated with climate change is sulfur dioxide, a component of smog, sulfur dioxide and closely related chemicals as known as a cause of acid rain. Also, lack of ventilated room and building aggravate the pollutant air making it inconvenient for man to inhale freely. No wonder why we often hear cases of family being killed by carbon monoxide release from generator or power plant. From the noted point, it is necessary to address the importance of air pollution in our environment. Air pollution as much has it negative effect also help to warm the earth, regulating a constant temperate environment. Sulfur dioxide a component of smog reflect light when released in the atmosphere, which keeps sunlight out and causes earth to cool. Volcanic eruptions can spew massive amounts of sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere, sometimes causing cooling that lasts for years. Recent research in industrialized countries has proof that sulfur dioxide, smog, and smoke help to improve people’s health. Sulfur dioxide from volcanoes can aid the planet by blocking sunlight through, warming the earth. Globally, we are faced with the challenge of how to strike a balance in the air effect. Varieties of measure have been taken to curb the negative effect of air pollution. On a personal view, we need to take a step forward to limit the air released from mobile sources by flying less, recycling and using well engine mobile. Finally, government need to take a measure to increase power supply level to reduce the supplier of power plant and well ventilated area should be strictly noted as a law before constructing a building. Elliotwiz1: the use of canes should be moderated, talking to them makes them know why What They're doing is wrong, using canes only scare away from it. Most of the children who died after being flogged had health issues. Their health problems get triggered when They're flogged e.g asthma, or some die in the hospitals weeks after they were flogged, something that is almost not related to what the teacher did. The most annoying fault can be traced to the teachers, i HATE teachers who flog students for fun!lol, noted.... It true some teachers beat for fun, i don't know if they are competing within themselves...... |
