Well, ve been hearing different sides but i want to point out to that side that say "we should cane, in order to maintain discipline" yes, it is obvious that some children are too stubborn to bend, like one of my neighbour son that cane is nothing to him again, he take it everyday as food and punishment as water. How do u think the boy can be helped with or without cane? |
Elliotwiz1: before the colonization of African countries, our children where well behaved, they never insulted elders, infact it was a taboo, but because of westernization many things has changed. . . . Back then a father can even flog a child Who's up to 18, but not today, the average American child talks back at his parents, so They're not a role model in this aspect. Africans have been using canes, and our children have been learning but since the colonial era things have been changing slowly. The few africans Who're now rebellious to their elders have been influenced by westerners.Yes, u are right. And i think we should follow our principle than looking unto the white men. Why is it that we hear cases of teacher or parent beating Child to death these days? Is it frustration or hatred that is responsible for this? |
Elliotwiz1: ''spare the rod and spoil the child'' take care of them when They're still young, bend them when They're still young because if you allow them grow with bad habits, you may not to able to bend them again.I guess the white men don't beat, and they maintain moral. Though, some of their children end up being rogue likewise some end up being rogue despite their discipline in Africa too. What can u say to this? |
@Ayam kay, it should continue because ur aunty beat you during ur time and u must do same to others 2. Do u not see ur act as judging from the past. Remember the case of Solomon and his son(Rehoboam), when the israelite went to his son to find out from him how to judge them. He went ahead and consult the elders and the youths. He followed the youths advice which was to do as his father do.... |
African Setting: It is obvious that ways and manners in this 21st century is different to other previous centuries. In the primitive era; parents, grown up ones and the community believed in use of cane to wipe indiscipline out of children. And, children actually feared their parents and grown up ones then. Now, those punishments and beating adopted then as now become CORPORAL PUNISHMENT in this time. Even, the scripture says "madness live in the mind of the child and can be eliminated by cane" why should we now be changing the admonishing word of God? The question i want the scholars on this platform to discuss now is should use of cane in homes or schools be reduced to zero level or increase to maintain high discipline in Nigeria and African @large. |

Hmmm, the way things are going in Nigeria nowadays, education will now become tough to get n student loan will be introduced as the way out, another 2nd slavery indeed!!!... And, those Ambassador of poverty will start seeing privatisation of Federal schools as the only way to solve educational problem. Nigerians wise up, shine ur face... Let compare how much we get things to 5-10 years ago n see d big difference. I once bought #5 bread, but the least price i can get bread now is #70... |
GETTING RICH IS GETTING RISK. One of the major problems confronting us in the world today is how to get rich, and the fact behind it, is getting risk. Every affluence people will tell you they started from the trash, they pass through one form or the other but they will never tell you the risk they took. Every riches attract a challenge but overcoming the challenge is the big issue. Riches are what we work towards, but not all who work towards it get it, is only those who can take the risk that get it. A man takes the risk of loss when he establishes a business, so many have remained poor because they are afraid of taking risk. Life itself is risk, man revolve round risk day in, day out. Life is race if you don’t get fast you will be trampled. The true fact is that if you ignore risk, success as well will wave you by. Every poor man has made huge blunder in their circumstance, I had a brother who had ignore an interview in a far distance just because he is afraid of taking the risk of accident. Let us have this mind within ourselves that life is probability, is either you fail or pass. Success can’t always be at your side because life is bittersweet experience. Getting rich required several steps, in everything you do never mind the risk… |

U are an "icon" in this debate, there is no way we can discuss this debate without discussing "U", despite my sting in literature thread i ven't meet or hear about u until now, u are wonderful n u made the literature thread proud, bros u ve my "respect". I started the hurdle with u guys but didn't make it to the grand finale. @Samatolly, u are wonderful. Scream this out "OAU there i go" the great citadel of learning can't wait to receive u. I doff my cap for u "gani in the making", u guys are great. I ve learnt alots from u guys n will keep to it, we can't wait to discuss u on oau thread. Just dat ur scanty essay led to ur ..... U should ve given more point, though those ones given are on points but not enough in this kind of competition... Nice 1 bro. @Des, am speechless cos ur ink rock my mind n made me nod in agreement but ur essay is too clumsy regarding to paragraph and arrangement, i ve to skim through. Naija is a soiled with talents, great future await us.. @ALL contestant, we all tried. It is not easy to typed a lenghty n sensible essay with phone, we ve all contributed to the progress of Nigeria. Writer is not made in a day, it is days... GOD BLESS NIGERIA, GOD BLESS AFRICAN. |
@Jodekess, thank u sir.... @olastep, pointing to ur correction @threat, i think d word is a noun and should go d way i use it... For example: Drugs pose a major threat to our society... Likewise to our life... Hence, the way i used it is right... |

To be candid, i don't like the way things are being handle on this thread. Going through previous discussion, i can't but nod my head in pity. We are all mature, we shouldn't handle post with anger or to bull ourselves. Let view it in this manner, if we are all claiming we can speak, we can argue and type sarcastically. How will this thread look like? I bet it with u, no 1 will remain on this thread. Let learn from each other and be submissive, 4get dat u are on campus and am still an aspirant. No 1 knows 2morrow, my junior in secondary school dat i taught is there in Oau reading nursing, yes dat doesn't make her feel on top of the world or think she is better than me because life is all about time and destiny... I passed my jamb n post jamb last year scoring above my said junior but i wasn't consider for my chosen course law. That make it clear to me, dat u are a master today doesn't make u master forever. @Olastep, i know u 2well on this thread last year with bintilaye, misslaw, ugopeter many to mention but few. I understand how u feel when u post but as a mature mind u ve to calm d situation, u said something which i really don't like( u are not the type that comes here n laugh, play with u people) dat unfair bro. Experience they say is the best teacher, last year thread fought time to time u know now, yet they still maintain love.... We are all brother n sister from different womb. @olastep, am jealous oooo cos i contested in d debate 2, but i didn't hear from u. Read my ink @contestant 17 n tell me my lapses... |
Enough of suspense pls, remember say work dey tomorrow.... |
Fynestboi: Ok before i unveil the mask from the masqurede face any1 to just tell me in one word how do u feel right now...Feel good, above all not a do or die affair... |
Tgirl4real: Hello all,Thanks my honourary audience.... |
Infoscope Tosdam and Des•chykos Infoscope, your work was impressive, but like Tosdam, you made the same mistake with abbreviations. Whenever you want to abbreviate names of associations of anything for that matter, you must first give the name in full, then put the abbreviation in bracket. After this, you can proceed to use them in the body of your work (take note of Des•chyko's essay). Tosdam, your opening paragraph was totally flawed. The second sentence completely contradicted your position on the topic, and you wrote the said topic all wrong. Watch it. You must know your topic or you'll only succeed in leaving everyone confused. Also learn the use of capital letters. In your conclusion, your use of 'meaningful Nigerians' should have been 'well meaning Nigerians'. Find out the meaning of both words. Tosdam and Des•chykos, you both need to watch your tenses. You shifted from present to past all too often and didn't seem to know how and where to use the singular and plural of words. Also take note of paragraphing...very important. Mikebis Well done for putting yourself out this way, it's admirable. Your essay was completely horrible(that's being nice), but like i said, i admire your confidence in participating. You had numerous problems ranging from spellings, to tenses, and syntax. I advise you read more and practise writing. You can start with opening a diary here on NL. Alicia Keys You performed remarkably well. Your content, organisation were on point. You highlighted individual points, and developed each of them before nailing it with examples...iLike!! However, you should be careful with your tenses. Your choice of words which is pronounced the same way, eg 'seizelessly' (which isn't a word) should have been 'ceaselessly'. Avoid also adding '.....i quote....' we can see the quotation marks there, so adding it too is useless. Also, while quoting, endeavour to do it right eg "Faith without works is dead". All in all, good job everyone who participated. Remember learning is a continuous process, and this is only one phase. You can only get better than this
Thanks, i appreciate dat.... I will work on those factors n get over it... More power to ur elbow... Like i said earlier, it is not easy to type with phone n @d same time contesting in an unhealthy state... Anyway, i don't want to be alibi. I will work on my flaws.... |
Chomzy19: @contestant 17, ur command of d English language is poor. Ur sentence constructions re bad; ur tenses, n ur use of some expressions re very inappropriate n u got some of dem wrong e.g its there is no gainsaying nt there is no gainsayLol, thanks for ur critique. Like my english master will always say: "a good critique" strike the mind of a writter for good, though it weigh down but create room for improvement..... I never knew i would participate in the debate, because of my health. I was typing in an agoning of fever yesterday. U made mention of reference, going by the history u will know i made use of reference.... Dat for the history.... Poor construction, lack of english tense, and lack of convincing idea.... All in one. Not that bad No proofread, just take my pen and ink something in a paper..... |
Thanks, i appreciate dat.... I will work on those factors n get over it... More power to ur elbow...
