Whats the AREA? Thats the only way you can assure if it is 2 plots or not. From the way you mentioned it, it is not a rectangle. so finding the area is not easy just like that. A single plot is 18m by 36m which is 648square meters.

I Can't Be Blackmailed to Probe IBB - Obasanjo

(This Day)-- President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday cautioned persons clamouring for a probe of former military President, Ibrahim Babangida, not to blackmail or "stampede" him into conducting "a blind probe."

In a reaction to statements credited to former Anglican Bishop of Akure Diocese, Rev. Bolanle Gbonigi, that Babangida must be probed, Obasanjo said his government does not recognise any "sacred cow" or believes any Nigerian is "untouchable," on the issue of corruption.

Obasanjo maintained that he owed nobody any obligation, which could prevent him from doing the right thing.

"This administration does not just go into a blind probe. In the course of the day-to-day running of government, any unearthed issue or any matter that comes to government's attention will be looked into," the President said.

On the allegations that the former President funded Obasanjo's electoral victory, he declared: "It was God through the votes of Nigerians who put me in office, and not any individual. No individual or collective misbehaviour or misdeed will be condoned for claimed or alleged contribution to my electoral success."

In a statement on Thursday in Abuja, Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity Tunji Oseni, advised those with concrete evidence concerning any past or serving public office holder to come forward with such information which would be pursued to its logical conclusion.

Obasanjo, the presidential spokesman added, "has implo-red people with relevant information on corrupt government officials be brought before the Justice Mustapha Akanbi-led Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related
Offences Commission."

"Any matter outside the commission's jurisdiction, should be passed to the appropriate judicial authority for necessary action, all law enforcement agencies under the executive are working collaboratively to fight corruption in the land."

The function of the commission is to receive and investigate any report of the conspiracy to commit, attempt to commit or the commission of such and, in appropriate cases, to prosecute the offenders.

President Obasanjo had sometime last year said that whoever has any proof of corrupt enrichment against Baban-gida should come forward and see whether or not the former military president would not be prosecuted.

Apparently reacting to insinuations that he was either afraid or unduly protecting Baban-gida, Obasanjo maintained that as the president, he could not encourage prosecution without proof of evidence.

"It agitates my mind when I read or hear of former heads of state or presidents claiming that they are more positioned to fight corruption than any other one, particularly the present administration. It angers one therefore to hear or read Obasanjo's claim as to how to curb corruption in Nigeria when in fact he is the one who perpetuated and legalized corruption in Nigeria.

"For instance, he was the brain behind the formation of Transcorp Company for which he bought over two million shares while in office as president and Transcorp Hilton, the premier hotel in Nigeria is partly owned by Obasanjo. The same Transcorp company bidded for power facilities being privatized, after Obasanjo had spent over 15 million dollars on the same power facilities as exposed by the Elumelu Committee of the House of Representatives.

"Secondly, he forced Nigerian businessmen and bankers to donate to his presidential library in Ota. Was he out of office when the Bell University was founded? He should tell Nigerians how much he made from Ota Farms as one of his cronies , Fani Kayode, had once claimed that he was making N30 million daily. Why has he not announce how much he is making now? One will also like to know the details of Ota Farms' transaction with Delta State Government, for which he has received over N3billion.

Politics / You Can’t Register As Apc, Inec Tells Acn, Cpc, Others by toshacer: 8:37am On Apr 29, 2013
http://tribune.com.ng/news2013/index.php/en/component/k2/item/10681-you-can-t-register-as-apc-inec-tells-acn-cpc-others

THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has written to the All Progressives Congress, disclosing that its acronym, in its application seeking registration as a political party, clashes with that of the African People’s Congress.

In a letter dated April 23, 2013 and signed by its secretary, Abdulahi Kaugama, the commission informed leaders of the All Progressives Congress of another party, the African People’s Congress, advising that a change of name may be an option.

Similar letter was sent to the lawyers of the All Progressives Congress, though the commission did not make any reference to ongoing court action by the African People’s Congress, challenging its non-registration by INEC.

Meanwhile, the battle over the APC acronym may have entered a crucial stage, as the African People’s Congress has also initiated a counter move to have INEC reject the application of the All Progressives Congress, which is expected to be submitted after all the merging parties had concluded their conventions.

In a one-page letter by its lawyer, Awa Kalu, to the INEC chairman, dated April 26 and received same day by INEC, the African People’s Congress reminded INEC of the pendency of the legal action seeking to upturn the decision of INEC not to register the African People’s Congress, in a suit No FHC/ABJ/CS/224/13 between Chief Ikeagwuonu and 29 ors vs INEC.

It will be recalled that the African People’s Congress, a political association seeking registration, was denied registration by INEC on the grounds that their application did not contain the address of its national officers, an action the party had countered as untrue, stating that INEC was on a deliberate mission to stop it.

Section 79 of the Electoral Act gives a political association, whose application for party registration is rejected, 30 days within which to seek judicial review of the decision, a provision the African People’s Congress had already exploited, with its pending litigation at the Federal High Court, Abuja, seeking judicial review of the decision of INEC.

2015: Buhari’s ambition unsettles merger plan

THE insistence of the inner core of General Muhammadu Buhari’s political organisation that the General must contest the 2015 election on the platform of the merging political parties is unsettling the major actors within the merging parties, sources close to the emerging mega party have said.

A number of sources also talked about some brewing unpleasant feelings among members of the parties, which, a source said, members of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and the All Nigerian People’s Party (ANPP) were not ready to make serious issues about for now.

Nigerian Tribune was told that while stakeholders in the CPC and ANPP were not really at home with some recent developments in the merging party, they had decided to keep their cool at the moment, while waiting for things to fully unfold.

But it was confirmed that leaders of the CPC had quarreled with nominees of the party to the Name and Logo Committee of the merging parties, over the way they perceived things were skewed against the party.

Besides that, it was also confirmed that the ambition of former head of state, General Buhari for the forthcoming 2015 election was unsettling the entire merger.

Already, three factions of opinion had emerged so far, with each of the faction canvassing different candidates.

While one of the factions was said to be rooting for a Buhari/Bola Tinubu ticket, another was said to be rooting for the governor of Kano State, Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso, while the third group was said to be rooting for the revitalisation of the presidential campaign of the former chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who contested on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in 2011.

It, however, emerged at the weekend that the group canvassing a Buhari candidacy was insisting that the man remained the face of presidential struggle and that without him, his core followers would pull out of the merging party.

A source at one of the meetings held by core loyalists of General Buhari in Abuja told the Nigerian Tribune that a major issue before the merger now remained the candidacy of Buhari.

The source stated that a number of followers of the general wanted only one thing and that was to see his name in the 2015 ballot.

Another source added that the issue before the leaders of the coalition was how to pacify Buhari to drop his 2015 ambition for a younger candidate, who would be anointed by the General and Tinubu.

The source further said that the CPC had decided to play down the issue of factionalisation within its fold, especially the faction of Senator Rufai Hanga, ahead of the planned national convention, so as not to draw the attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to the issue.

Apart from expressing their anger to the sub-committee on name and logo of the mega party, CPC leaders were also said to have commenced moves towards quietly resolving the disagreement with the larger All Progressive Congress (APC).

I know a few people whose blood boils on the mention of GEJ's name or even has high blood pressure on reading anything positive about GEJ and his government on NairaLand, despite their bring him down attitude (worse than Boko Haram), GEJ's supporters keep appearing here daily to neutralise and counter the offensive of the so called opposition. At the mention of anything positive about GEJ, they descend on you and call them names like LAPDOGS, 40 laptop crews, bigots, etc etc. But it seems the so caled oppositions on NairaLand are running out of steam lately. So, they have more work to do, it seems.

Politics / Re: The Grounding of Rivers' Aircraft: My Story - Amaechi by toshacer: 3:01pm On Apr 28, 2013
THE Nigeria civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), on Saturday, declared that the controversial aircraft in the service of Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State was on illegal operations in the country.

Consequently, the NCAA has grounded the Bombardier-BD 700 Global Express aircraft with registration number N565RS, which the authority said had an expired clearance approval effective 2 April.

Addressing reporters yesterday at the Aviation House, the headquarters of NCAA, the director of airworthiness standards, Mr Benedict Adeyileka, explained that while the aircraft was still operating illegally, it had been sighted in several places, including Owerri and Akure.

The NCAA director said about the incident:” The controversial aircraft on the service of Governor Rotimi Amaechi is operating illegally on the country.

“The aircraft a Bombardier BD 700, Global Express with registration number N565RS, has its clearance approval expired since Tuesday, April 2, 2013. By our records the last flight clearance for this aircraft was approved for operations on Thursday, March 28, 2013 on Accra/Port Harcourt and Accra to terminate on April 2, 2013. With this development, the aircraft has exceeded the extra two days or 48 hours leeway for it to leave the country.

“While still operating illegally, the aircraft has been sighted in several places, including Owerri and Akure. The owner of this aircraft, according to the certificate of registration, is Bank of Utah Trustees of Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.”
Meanwhile, As controversy rages on over Friday’s alleged refusal by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) to grant Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi’s plane start up to leave the Akure airport, the management of the agency, yesterday, insisted that the development was due to the failure of the pilot of the plane to submit the required manifest of passengers on board and that it was untrue that the plane was grounded by the airspace manager.

Addressing a press conference at the NAMA headquarters, the Managing Director of the agency, Nnamdi Udoh said contrary to the politicisation of the incident, the agency carried out its functions in line with the global aviation standard which he said did not accept any iota of politics.

His words: “By regulation, the manager has no power to clear any aircraft at that time of the day because Akure Airport operates day light operations. Approval must be given through the manager to the tower.

“After the clearance, the pilot must submit the manifest, which the pilot could not provide immediately. Manifest submission is a mandatory requirement before a start-up is granted. Aviation is not politics and we won’t dabble into politics.
But the Chief Press Secretary to Rt Hon. Amaechi, David Iyofor, countered the agency’s claim that the pilot violated operating rules by not filing a flight plan or declaring a manifest, saying “it is indeed most shameful and ludicrous that NAMA and the aviation authorities are now saying that they grounded the Rivers State Government plane because the pilot did not file a flight plan and declare a manifest. That’s a blatant lie; a big fat one at that.”

According to Iyofor, in a statement made available to Sunday Tribune, the Bombardier jet owned by the Rivers State Government, had landed at the airport in Owerri, where his principal had gone for the funeral rites of the younger sister of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Emeka Ihedioha and it was in Owerri that “the pilot of the plane was first tipped off that there is a plot to ground our plane in Owerri.”

He noted that once the plane which conveyed Rt. Hon. Amaechi; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Aminu Waziri Tambuwal; the Director-General of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) Asishana Bayo Okauru, Kalabari prince and politician, Prince Tonye Princewill and some aides of the governor touched down in Akure and they left for Ekiti by road, for the burial of the state’s late deputy governor, Mrs Funmilayo Olayinka, the pilot went to the airport offices to make statutory airport payments and fees, file his flight plan and declare his manifest but was told by the Controller that the plane would not be allowed to leave the airport.

“NAMA and the aviation authorities should explain to Nigerians why an aircraft owned by a state government, that flew the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal and a democratically elected governor of a state, who is also the chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, would be grounded at an airport for no just cause?” Iyofor said.

However, NAMA insisted that the plane was not grounded by the airspace manager. Udoh said that the aircraft, Global Express, with the registration number N565RS, called for Air Traffic Controllers’ start up at 17:35, which was at once granted to the pilot at the Akure airport towers.

He added that the aircraft commenced taxing at 17:45 and departed at 17: 51.

LOL. After him. Only in your mind. Rotimi himself came out to say there is no rift between him and GEJ. Keep crying wolf when there is none.

I have no quarrel with Jonathan – Amaechi

Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has described as a “media creation” the purported rift between him and President Goodluck Jonathan.

“I am not aware that Mr. President and I are quarrelling. As far as I am concerned, we are not quarrelling”, Amaechi told reporters on Thursday in Kano State.

The governor stated this even as he said the planned election into the Nigerian Governors’ Forum was not a do-or-die.

Amaechi was in the ancient city on the invitation of his Kano State counterpart, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Amaechi, the NGF chairman said, “Governor Kwankwaso invited me to Kano to come and inspect some of the projects on the ground, and that is why I am here.”

On the forthcoming NGF election, Amaechi said it was not a do-or-die thing, as he would bow out if not given the chance to continue in that capacity.

He added, “If I am not re-elected as the Chairman of the Governors’ Forum, there is nothing to lose, I will still remain a member of the forum, and work towards its success.”

Concerning his posters for the 2015 presidential race, which had appeared in some cities, Amaechi said, “My picture with that of Kano governor as well as Jigawa governor, Sule Lamido; will I be vice-president to both of them?”

Meanwhile, civil rights groups, Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice and the Ogoni Solidarity Forum on Thursday in Abuja urged President Goodluck Jonathan to stop muzzling the opposition.

According to them, there is a “gradual attempt to muzzle opposition and human right groups”.

Instead, they asked the Federal Government to learn to tolerate opposing voices since constructive criticism remained the hallmark of democracy.

The Executive Director of ANEEJ, Rev. David Ugolor, and the National Coordinator of OSF, Mr. Celestine Akpobori, at a joint briefing, also pleaded with the judiciary to redeem its image by maintaining its independence and integrity.

2sd: I think a Nigerian President is too powerful. Some of the powers and duties arrogated to itself are actually supposed to be for the federating states but in the case of Nigeria, we see presidents commissioning cities water systems, street roads etc.

My point here is not about projects but the politics behind all these. I think a better consensus can be built by our regional heads and a better presidential candidate may emerge as a result of it rather than a system where the outgoing presidents selects his/her successor to make the system continue to serve their selfish interests.

He is talking about Governors you are accusing Presidents.

mikeansy:

It is a democracy, Amaechi has every right to question the leadership of the President within the confines of the law. A strong President will recognise that it is Amaechi's right to do so.

If Jonathan feels Amaechi and the RSG are breaking the law, the court is there for him to use.

Otherwise Jonathan needs to get used to how democracy works. Jonathan has this misguided idea that everyone South of the Niger must like him. Thats just plain ridiculous. If Amaechi was from NW Jonathan wont be doing all the nonesense he is doing.

Where did you get the bolded from? Are you in his mind that you know his idea? mtcheewww.
