There is an ongoing engagement with White House not to cancel OPT and one of the considerations is to ensure that the US still continues getting revenues from International students. I also looks like they might open the embassies very soon. Please let's be hopeful. All the best.

We write to request your help in ensuring our nation’s ability to attract, educate, and engage with
the best and brightest students and scholars from across the world. In furtherance of the goal, we
ask your agencies adopt appropriately streamlined processes to ensure international students can
enroll in the fall and preserve the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program, which allows our
country to globally compete for market share of international students.
International students and their families contributed approximately $41 billion to our national
economy in 2018-2019 alone. The endurance of this tremendous economic contribution requires
our nation adopt and retain policies that keeps the United States competitive for new students
and provides continuity of education for those students and faculty who have already been part
of our higher education communities. While international students make up only 5.5 percent of
overall U.S. college enrollments, they make significant contributions to our communities and
help our students develop skills vital to their future success in the global economy. With the
global closure of U.S. embassies and consulates, international students have been unable to
schedule visa appointments. College and universities face a potential 25 percent decline in
international student enrollment for the fall 2020 term.
Our higher education institutions and communities are preparing for the possible reopening of
their campuses and are in need of clarity as they work to advise students and faculty, allocate
critical resources, and maintain continuity of education and research. To that end, we urge your
respective departments to communicate and share plans to address the expected increase in
demand for visa services, including how U.S. consulates will be able to prioritize and process
applications that include F-1 and J-1 visas. We believe several options are available to your
agencies including the ability to waive certain interview requirements, prioritize the rescheduling
of appointments that were canceled during COVID-19, and create a timely application and
renewal process for professors, researchers, scientists, and those that are needed on U.S.
campuses when instruction is expected to resume. We further request your agencies coordinate
the admission of medical residents and fellows on J-1 and H-1B visas scheduled to begin their
training program on July 1, many of whom will make vital contributions at university hospitals.
Without these residents and fellows, patient care will be disrupted. Additionally, we urge the administration to publicly clarify that OPT will remain fully intact so
we send the right messages abroad about the U.S. as an attractive destination for international
students. As countries like Canada, the United Kingdom, China and Australia bolster
immigration policies to attract and retain international students, the last thing our nation should
do in this area is make ourselves less competitive by weakening OPT. The program is essential
to the many international students who desire not just to study in the U.S. but also have a post
completion training experience.
We are also aware that some nations may seek to exploit certain international student programs
for their benefit, against our national interests, and against the spirit of research in American
universities. We believe there are strategic and targeted approaches to combatting those practices
without weakening or suspending in full our international student programs. We look forward to
working with you on those solutions.
We stand ready to work with your offices to ensure U.S. visa and immigration policies function
well for all who are looking to contribute to the excellence of the U.S. higher education and
research system and respectfully request the administration make clear international students and
scholars are encouraged to study and conduct research. These policies are critical to the national
interest.

I am currently enrolled for a Masters program at Lamar University Beaumont and I got tuition waiver and scholarship on arrival in the US which is about 50% off my tuition fees. Dear NL. I am a silent follower of this platform. I was scheduled for interview at the Lagos Embassy this morning at 6:45am and got my visa approved. I am thankful to God for His favor and mercies. I was one of the very very.. few that got visa approval this morning. The rejection rate was massive and its not an exaggeration to say less than 5% of all applicants were issued visas. The Vos were just denying visa applicants for both visiting and student categories. A family had just been denied at the next window to me...
now fast forward to my transcript.

My VO is a young man possibly in his early 40s or close to 40. I was praying quietly as I knew it would take God's grace to answer confidently.

VO: Pass me your i20 and passport please.
Me: I did smiling and said good morning to him
VO: Why are you going to the US?
Me: I am going to study for an MBA in Enterprise Resource Planning at Bleep University. (I forgot to mention the location of my school)
VO: Where do you work?
Me: I work at Bleep plc.
VO: How much is your salary?
Me: (he looked at his screen waiting for my response.
VO: You have a good job, why are you going for an MBA.
Me: I work in a financial services company but my background is technical and I need a business degree that would give me a competitive edge and acquire business skills for my short term and long term career goals.
VO: What are your long term career goals
Me: the school will be assisting me with the endorsements and certification I require to become a business consultant in this market and this will lead me to starting my own business.
VO: Did you apply to other schools?
Me: Yes I applied to 2 other schools and I named them.
VO: Have you ever traveled out of Nigeria?
Me: I was on honey moon with my wife to Gambia and Senegal, I have been to Ghana to attend some courses and I have traveled on some occasions to South Africa on business meetings. I have also visited the US on four different occasions.
VO: When was the last time you visited the US?
Me: I mistakenly answered 2017 and also mentioned that i was in the US in 2018.Told him I took time off work on vacation and tried to write the GRE exam while in the US but unfortunately there were system issues so I had to come back to write it in the country. (the VO kept looking at the system and typing as if verifying my answers)
VO: Are you planning to apply for F2 visas for your family?
Me: My wife is an entrepreneur and she is busy with her business. My kids are in school and i am hoping they would be able to visit me in the US during my wife's off peak business period and when my kids are off school.
VO: How do you want to fund your studies?
Me: ( I had 27k on my i20. I passed my acct statements, fixed deposit certificates and letters from work stating my salary/position/designation, payslip, letter of recommendation from my boss and every document that can give a positive impression of me. He started looking at the documents page by page and occasionally took his eyes black to the computer screen.
VO: (Then he picked up one of my acct statements which is very busy with transactions but with no serious money.. Lols)
Me: That is my salary acct. I fund the other acts from there.
VO: Tell me about the location of your school. Tell me about it.
Me: (I started stammering cos I wasn't expecting such question. I said a few words mentioning the cities around the location and the flooding in that area. I felt unsatisfied with my response and asked the VO if I could ask him a question. I did this just to cover up in case he wasn't satisfied) Please can I ask you a question?
VO: Sure, go ahead
Me: I am wondering why you asked for the location of my school. Is there something happening there that am not aware of.
VO: Nothing really. At times we ask such questions to be sure students know where they are going.
Me: Ok
VO: I have made up my mind to issue your visa. (He handed over my documents and advised on instructions at the port of entry. He directed me to where I would pay the reciprocity fees.
Me: (I was no more listening. I picked up my documents, said thank you and walked away)

My wife and kid was denied F2 visa of joining me here because when I was asked during the interview in May 2019 if they will travel with me, I said no and the VO told her yesterday I said they won't join me and why is she applying for F2 to join me, so my wife said I only said they weren't traveling with me and I didn't say they will not join me later but she was denied that I said they won't join me and they cannot join me now.

The truth is I was asked... is you family traveling with you? and I said no. I was not asked, will your family join you.

In English language, I see "traveling with you" and "joining you" as two different meaning.

Does anyone have solution to this serious issue?

This is not supposed to be a big deal but it's just the current climate of things. I read a transcript on this thread where the VO expressly told the applicant that his family will be denied if they applied...this can give u clues to the answers u seek.
