Hello House,

I am a graduate of Electrical/Electronic Engineering. I recently had my Certificates evaluated by SAQA and got an NQF Level 8. I graduated with a Second Class Upper degree, a good one at that.
I tried applying for a Masters by Research degree at the University of Pretoria,to my utmost surprise I was asked by the Admissions officer of the department of Electrical Engrg, UP to enrol for their Honours program and that I wasn't qualified to be admitted for Masters directly.
I was so surprised and furious, and sent her a mail telling her of my grades and SAQA evaluation but she reaffirmed that UP can only admit me for Honours.

It's really annoying! I can't imagine myself enrolling for a South African Honours degree after spending 5 solid years to get my Bachelor of Engineering degree in Nigeria.

Please guys I need suggestions on reputable schools in SA where I can do a Research Masters degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.

Thanks in anticipation.

That's indeed annoying. May I advise that you apply to Wits University for your Msc by research. It is going to be well. Regards!

Bear in mind that Schools with low tuition fee shouldn't lead to low budgeting. Cuz most of these places have high standard of living from house rent to feeding.

Plz whatz the likely estimate for the cheapest possible monthly house rent

Hi, I just like to ask if VFS considers 'Provisional Offer of Admission' (which doesn't state how long the program would be) as the only academic document from the school of study for the purpose of renewing the existing study permit that expires in December. Thanks

MrOlah: so if they make their admission decisions by sept/oct. That means they will still be admitting this year yes? When does their session start for postgraduate please?

Applications forms are still on sale till August/sept ending or thereabout. For both UG and PG programs, the session starts with registration in January and ends around october.
Good day All,

I completed my application for postgraduate studies (2015) to Wits University and supplied all the required documents for more than Five weeks now. However, i am yet to receive an admission letter. I just want to know if it takes that long to receive an admission having supplied all the required documents (Hard and Soft copies).

Does anyone have a similar experience?
Well, I think Wits univ makes decisions on applications around september/october, it's never too late. I would advise u send e-mails to the departmental coordinator/hod of the program u applied for....they will respond. Has a profile been created for u online? If yes, keep checking. All will be fine.

Well Friend, u can download it frm www.sahc.org.au/visas
Then,u click on study permit. Again click on B1-1738, medical report and radiological report. I printed mine black and white, presented it at SAHC Lagos office and there was no complaint. It is well.

School CANNOT be on session now dear. All schools are CLOSED at the moment. Your school will open on the 2nd of January. Confirm from here http://registrar.ukzn.ac.za/Sessional-Dates-2014/Nelson-R-Mandela-School-of-Medicine.aspx

However, selection for accommodation would have closed since around September or October.

Both of you should try sending a mail to the International Office asking them if they COULD pick you up at the airport and give you accommodation for a few days while you secure accommodation. Let's hope someone responds (cos of the school closure).

Cheers and all the best.
That's a nice approach.

adewumigloria: I agree with @yinksobo002, DHL is more reliable and faster. I used EMS and it took like 2 months before it got there and they even finally brought it back to me saying no one came to pick it. I had to send it through someone that came to Naija and was going bck. If you need the SAQA results to go to the school you're applying for, then give SAQA that address and they will post it to them in a short time. It will also be posted to you as far as you have given your adress and you don't need to pay again as you would have already been billed for everything.

@gloria-ade,thks a lot.Wishing u the very best of God in ur pursuit.

@adewumi,the challenge is that SAQA has posted the provisional certif to me which was rejected at the embassy. Now,for d real saqua certif I need,a document is required to be forwarded to saqua office by 2nd Jan for the issuance of the real certf I need.I'll be posting dat via DHL sure but will Saqua office post it back to me without any additional payment?Datz not very clear to me.

Hi Friends,
Please who knows about posting either thru EMS or DHL courier service from Nigeria to South Africa? How do the two work? Which of the two is cheaper?Which one is advisable for a document that needs urgent attention? Is there a way to ensure that same document return to Nigeria thru same mode? Please I need your contributions. Thanks!

Hey Tosol,
I used FedEx which was about 12,000 then; I think to ensure the document return to Nigeria through the same mode is up to you and the SAQA guys; you will have to opt and pay for express delivery then you could contact them (SAQA) and request they use your preferred courier service.
As regards the aengus guys, I have contacted them via mail but no response yet.
Pls,send to Oscar@aengus.co.za and stanley@aengus.co.za.U can as well give them a call.U will definitely get a response. U can at thesame time contact Mrs Gita Patel, the acting head, int'l office for links on urgent off-campus residence. Those were the steps I took and they were successful. It's well

Thanks Tosol, i'll check it out. Have you tried calling the SAQA guys and explaining your plight? Or if you have the resources, you should just come down to Abuja; it is not part of documents required; although submission of applications ended for the year today and should resume first week in January.

Anyway,I have been able to receive from the saqua deputy director on the steps to take, just praying it will not be too late.Pls,let me know how it goes with accommodation issue. The company's name is published in the wits student book for off campus accommodatn.Stay blessed.

It's too expensive. If you trust the guy, you can go ahead and send the money. But I suggest you ask momentum to send their banking details and wire the money directly from Naija. That is a big possibility.

A lot of thks to u Mr TYPOP!
Pls,if any body could help,I have a challenge. In August I submitted my BSc statement of result and transcripts to SAQ for evaluation. An original provisional saqua certificate without any shiny seal was posted to me with the notification that another certificate will be issued in 6months time. Presenting the prov certf at Lagos Embassy, the fair Lady who attended to me rejected it because there is no shiny seal on it,I explained, she didn't agree. Pls what step can I take?I tried calling saqua today but no response. I've equally emailed. The program starts with registration in January. Pls,I need your advice. Thks

Hello Please. I have some questions about studying in SA.
If one is able to get the study permit, while studying overthere, honours program in particular, what can of PT job are u qualified to do and for how long per day if studied don't take much hours? Like how much can one realize per hour? If one is diligent enough with studies, is there any hope of not sending back to relatives for financial assistance?I would appreciate experienced responses. Thank you.

adewumigloria has answered the cost part. While you can pay on the first day you get there, I always advise you prepare you may not finish on the first day. This saves you from any eventualities in case you need to get one or two more documents / photocopies. Why not plan to sleep over in Lagos and if you are now lucky to finish on time, you see it as an advantage instead of being left in limbo if you plan for a single day and need more than one.

Cheers and all the best.
