Meanwhile on another news grin

A youth group, under the aegis of Igbo for Nigerian Movement, INM, has floated anti-Biafra campaign to unite people of Igbo extraction in order to reap maximum benefits from the peaceful co-existence of one United Nigeria.

IINM called on the entire Ndigbo to bury the idea of the struggle of the Republic of Biafra and embrace the new platform, INM for intellectual and strategic engagements that would enthrone equity, fairness and justice to every member of the Nigerian State.

The group warned that the ongoing clamour by some persons for the secession of Igbo from Nigeria was a call to self-destruction and would only do them more harm than good.

Some groups, including the Nnamdi Kanu-led Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, as well as the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, under the leadership of Uchenna Madu have been clamoring for the birth of Biafra.

According to them, Nigeria is a zoo and has succeeded in expunging them from the scheme of things in the nation.

However, the INM leader, Maxi Igwe Ifeanyi speaking alongside with his newly inaugurated Excos with our correspondent on Sunday, called on those supporting the return of Biafra to quickly swallow their word and work together for a united Nigeria in line with the vision of great nationalists like Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe.

Mazi Ifeanyi Igwe, the group's leader in his interview, insisted that Biafra was not the panacea to Igbos' problem, rather the beginning of more trouble for the land as the agitation has continue to sow the seed of suspicion for the average Igboman particularly in the political circle used by other ethnic groups as the key to other segment of our national life.

He said, "The ongoing clamour by some infertile-minded Igbo brethren for the secession of South east from Nigeria is a call to self-destruction, to say the least.

"It is obvious that those championing the movement for the return of Biafra were not born during the civil war and have no single idea of what Ndigbo went through during and after the war.

"We therefore call on those behind this movement to sheathe their sword and embrace a one and united Nigeria.

"Biafra is never the solution to our problem. In fact, it is the beginning of more problems for our already-troubled land.

"INM stands for the unity of Nigeria and urge those beating war drum to heed to the old Igbo adage that says, "ogwumagana agahi ogbanye ije ya maka na ohia n'ere oku (the chameleon does not change its movement because the bush is on fire.)" he added.

GREAT BENIN ORIGIN OF ONITSHA
BENIN ROOT OF ONITSHA
Many of our traditional titles are the same with the Edos/Binis:
Onicha titles like “Iyasele” is “Iyasere” in Bini; “Ogene Onira” is
“Oliha” in Benin; “Odu Osodi” is “Osodin” in Benin; “Omodi Daike”
in Onitsha is “Edaiken” in Benin; “Esagba” in Onitsha is “Esogban”
in Benin; the “Isama” titles are the same in both towns amongst
many others. The “Obi” of modern Onitsha today is the
continuation of the ancient Pharonic dynasty of ancient Kemet or
Egypt. Onitsha must retrace the history of her monarchs from his
imperial Majesty Obi Achebe back to the Ogiso Kings of
Igodomigodo in Edo, then to Egypt; to Pharoah Tutankhamon,
Pharoah Amenemhet, Pharoah Amenemes, Pharoah Amenkhuti
Ra; Pharoah Khafara, and back to the first dynasty in Egypt.
Enough of this tracing of our kingship to just Obi Oreze or his father
Ohime(corrupted to “Chima”) by his later descendants. Onicha
people came from Benin or Edo land, they were also in Igbo land. I
suspect that the Priests of Nri were distantly connected, that is
why till date an Nri King upon consecration must bring certain
sacrifial items to the Obi of Onicha and must sleep over in Onicha
before assuming the Nri throne. Why would the very traditional Nri
people who were(and still are) known all over the Igbo land as a
holy people and the spiritual custodian of all Igbo lands, accord
these rights to Onicha Kings? All these indicate that Onicha and
many other tribes had had prior interactions and established certain
traditional precedence which had been ongoing before the Onicha
town was founded just around 700 hundred years ago. No Nri man
would just concede to subject his divine King to some unknown
immigrants who just crossed over from the Niger River, if that were
to be the case.
authoritatively portray the following facts that the Ikelike people
from the Bini kingdom were the first to settle in Ogwashi-Uku (see
Ben Nwabua, Ogwash-uku Kingdom, 1000 Years of Traditional
Democracy and Cultural Life, 950-1914). Both traditional and
empirical sources gives credence that Ikelike people were the first
set of immigrants to settle in the present Ogwashi-Uku as against
the notion that Adaigbo who purportedly came from Nri in present
Anambra State today is the founder of Ogwashi-Uku. So far, no
counter claim has been made on this. According to Ogwashi-Uku
intelligence report by Mr. J.E Hull, the then Assistant District
Officer dated on the 9th of April 1936, the Ikelike people from all
indications migrated from Benin to settle where they are found
themselves today, because of a reign of wanton persecution of
subjects by the then Benin Monarch, Oba Eweka 11. The story
further goes that at the head was Odigie Ikelike with his younger
brother Ado who later founded Adonta, a relatively small village
close to Azungwu in Ogwashi-uku today.
The Ikelike migrants were said to be politically averse and could
not, therefore evolve an orderly method of governance even
though there were small in number. Jull`s report further went on to
point out that because of such indisposition towards an effective
means of governing themselves, it cost them the political
leadership they were first to settle in. Rather, Adaigbo, the prince
from Nri later came, controlled the situation and imposed
leadership based on Igbo customs and tradition on them and what
later became Ogwshi-Uku kingdom. Adaigbo’s imposed of
republican system, however, later gave way to the hereditary
system of the Benins . BENIN EMIGRATION OR EXODUS: The
migration of Onicha people from Benin happened in phases over
many years and did not happen once. The Ohime/Obi Ezechima’s
exodus was one of the last ones that occurred but it should be
noted that not all Onicha people left with Obi Eze Chima or Ohime.
Some stayed back and are still in Benin today. Some took a
different migrationary route towards Ile Ife and Ado Ekiti. Some
went to establish Ondo. Some made a northern migrational journey
towards the north to establish the Igala Kingdom. The Attah of
Igala and a substantial part of the Igala kingdom were Onicha
people who immigrated into Igala from Benin. The first Attah of
Igala was a Prince of the Edo/Benin Kingdom. Now it can be
understood why the Onicha people were ferried across the Niger
and greatly assisted by their Igala kinsmen when they reached the
banks of the Niger river. It can also be understood why Onicha
people easily incorporated many Igala rituals and traditions into
their own concepts. They were of the same roots but different
branches. Onicha people left Benin to establish Igala; that was the
secret behind the easy adoption of and exchange of different tenets
amongst Onicha and Igala people. Some Onicha people, before
Eze Chima’s exodus, had left Benin to establish other towns like
Issele Ukwu, Ebu, Kwale, Ezzi, Onicha-Ukwu, Okpanam, Asaba
(originally called “Araba”) and some other towns of Benin
orientation that had been established before the Ezechima’s
exodus from Benin.. It was these settlements that habored Obi
Ohime/Ezechima when he and his family fled from Benin. The
migration from Benin to Onicha Mmili took many years, towns of
Onicha-Olona and Onicha-Ugbo were established by Onicha people
who felt reluctant to continue and follow Obi Ohime to Onicha-
mmili. ESTABLISHMENT OF ONICHA-MMILI AND HER RULING
DYNASTY: Obi Ohime or Eze Chima, having been told that he could
not enter Onicha, stayed for a long time in Obio with his family and
relatives before he died. After he died, his relatives decided to
continue with their migration to establish Onicha. The qualification
for whom shall be crowned king was conditioned upon who shall
sound ancient rhythms on a wooden Ufie. Traditionally, Ufie cannot
be owned or be sounded/beaten by a person whose father is still
alive. The contestants to the throne having just lost their father,
had no ufie, however, Oreze Obi, had carved one which he hid
under the boat and sounded first upon getting to Onicha whilst his
siblings were busy looking for the appropriate wood to cut for the
Ufie.

Here is the latest WAEC abeg grin

grin grin grin

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has expressed pleasure over the latest WAEC results placing the state on top of other states in performance.
It attributed the feat to sound education policy by former Governor Kayode Fayemi, which provided incentives for good learning environment and provision of educational items that enhanced learning among the students.
It said the explanation became imperative, as Fayose was wont to claiming unmerited credits for Fayemi’s achievements, citing 2014 budget by Fayemi that was adjudged the most effective and transparent in Nigeria by an organisation, but which Fayose celebrated as his achievement.
The National Examination Council NECO on Friday released the results of the Senior School Certificate Examination it conducted in and outside the country between June and July this year, with Ekiti State having the best performance with 96.48 percent followed by Edo State came second with 96.31 percent.
Reacting to the state’s performance, APC Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, said in a statement that the feat was attributable to education policy instituted by Fayemi that put life into educational administration and management in the state.
He explained that Fayemi called an education submit to develop a roadmap for quality education, which the former governor implemented to the letter, saying the foundation laid by the administration created environment for learning as never before, resulting in the latest incredible performance by the students.
He also noted that the current success did not happen overnight but the result of long planning by Fayemi between 2011 and 2014.
Listing the incentives instituted by the former governor that had brought about the latest performance, Olatunbosun explained:
“Fayemi gave a laptop per child that exposed them to study online and eradicated miracle centres while providing incentive to teachers, including renovation of schools to enhance good learning environment, and also approved special allowances for core subjects and rural postings for teachers.
“Fayemi’s giant strides in education made Ekiti one of the three states in the federation that benefitted from the World Bank’s $50m State Education Programme Investment Project (SEPIP).
“He renovated 183 secondary schools and 836 primary schools and provided other incentives, including establishment of remedial colleges to cater for out-of-school students in the 16 local governments, which made the state to record 52% credit pass in English and Maths in 2013 while the state also won many firsts in various quiz competitions in the same year, topping it with a student from Ikere High School who won the best male student in WAEC.”
Olatunbosun regretted that while Fayemi introduced and sustained compulsory free education at primary and secondary education levels, Fayose had cancelled the policy, making pupils to pay taxes per term while teachers remained unpaid for seven months. This also led to teachers’ strike that kept the students out of school for months, this could not have resulted in this successful outing.
“Fayemi administration of four years when the successful students were in Junior secondary school, impacted well on them such that they had a solid educational background which translated into the latest success.
“Between 2011 and 2014, Fayemi was consistently rewarding best hardworking teacher with a brand new car and paid WAEC fees of students ranging from N86m to N140m, which Fayose has also stopped .
“Fayemi’s administration was continuously organising training programmes for the teachers, while 400 motorcycles were distributed to teachers serving in rural areas, even as he distributed 20,000 sets of lockers and chairs to public schools across the state.
“He delivered books worth N6m to the State Library Board to encourage reading culture among teachers and students and promoted no fewer than 4,000 primary school teachers between 2010 and 2014, including Head Teachers and Deputy Head Teachers, some of whom were demoted by Fayose upon assumption of office.”
The APC spokesman added that teachers benefited from the relativity pay for all categories of workers in the public service and also benefited from the 27.5% Teachers Pecuniary Allowance, while Ekiti was the first in the South West to implement the relativity pay, bringing the minimum wage from N7,500 to N19,300 without owing teachers salaries.
Noting that Fayemi also organised continuous capacity building programmes for teachers and established intensive state-wide coaching programme for SSCE/NECO and JAMB candidates, he regretted that all the schemes had been cancelled by Fayose who was also owing teachers six months salary arrears.
