Since I started using MTN ODU, I have never called or chatted with their customer service. It has been plug and play for me, without any need to tweak the box.

With Airtel, my first three months were good, but I eventually had to tweak the box to get the best out of it. When Airtel is good, it is really good, but when things go wrong, it can be frustrating. Airtel is cheaper, especially with SmartCash, and their customer service response is good, although they might not always be able to fix the issue.

Airtel might be working perfectly for some people. Both are good, but based on my experience, MTN is the best.

Good for you, and count yourself lucky that you have a good network in your area. It’s true, Airtel can be very frustrating sometimes; it can really get on your nerves.
I got the MTN ODU, and that’s the speed I’m getting. But I don’t think MTN is for me because the network is very weak at my office. I’m getting a maximum download speed of about 10 Mbps there, while at home, I’m getting the full speed.
MTN is expensive but they are the best

you just said it all. All the people that I introduced to airtel ODU, I have dragged them to either Fiber x or Fly x( Na them know where them get this name).. So far, they are enjoying what they paid for.

I don't know what your motivation was for leaving the ODU that worked for you.

The band locking is based on the theory that the cell and frequency you have locked are the most stable. But that position changes erratically that within a day, your best band can become the worst.

Routers are also built to switch primary cells from time to time using their own algorithm to determine which cell is the best at any material time. This is why, in the absence of a proven band and or cell that is stable for a significant period of time, it's absolutely better to leave the bands and cells alone.

Depending on how well your router does the above, it's better than having to switch bands all the time. I did this a lot in the early days with GF Max. It was tedious because you have to use a script to lock specific cells as Airtel removed that ability with their software.

So I left the bands alone. If Airtel is bad, they are bad. When they recover, the router takes care of the rest.

May b Is Airtel that is bad or the router I will know . I am dropping this router and sub on my old one, this one dey stress me

If that is it, after doing it , I am not getting any speed or is there anything I am not doing right, pls tell me more hw to go about it, I think this new odu is having a problem this is my second month.. and it's very slow . you ticked all the bands I guess, . For the past three weeks, Airtel’s network has been very bad here. yesterday, Band 7 was especially bad, so I had to tick all the bands and untick Band 7 before I could use the network properly. But since today, the maximum speed I’m getting is only 30 Mbps.

Far better than Airtel but you can’t lock bands and it’s always on band 3, I wanted to lock to band 7.

If it's better I don't think U don't hv to lock to band 7 again if band 3 is working well for U, what is the speed are U getting

Got this message from Airtel yesterday, and my internet speed's been pretty good! FYI, I am on the 100mbs plan.

Were U located bro.. it seems the Airtel is upgrading there mast I hv not been Able use my odu to its full potential for 5 days now, today is very worst .. I have restarted more then 200 times today... But since I disable band 7 and click all the rest, It has been working getting like 3mbps ...

Judging by this metric - that is, retaining network - you will be shocked at the amount of signal and signal quality the ZTE G5F retains. In fact, that is the single most significant metric that makes it better than others, in my opinion.

Fwiw I haven't experimented with the Huawei model. I have had short term experience with X17U when a friend bought it. That time it gave so much problems that the guy stopped using it extirely till this day. But as I often say here, most of the problems stem from the specific Sim cards (internal or external) associated with these devices, which require fixing by Airtel. Outside that, all the devices are equal to the basic task of giving 50mbs Internet speed. But let me not digress further.

Before Airtel improved in my location, band 7 was very elusive here. I had ZLT X25 base model, ZLT X17M, and the G5F, the ZLT devices were struggling to get a single bar on all the cells and frequencies on band 7. But G5F was getting 3 bars and up to 20 SINR.

Right now, others get 2 to 3 bars while it gets full bars. Unfortunately, it's is hanging idle these days as I am primarily using X25pro, because the ZTE MC801A I used to use as IDU for the G5F is deployed elsewhere as repeater and LAN extension.

Different ppl with different experiences lol,, the zte g5 is hanged outside and getting 2mbps but the zlt that is i inside a bag and it's getting 6mbps lol

Change the position of the ODU use zte install helper app to identify good signal area once that is done try every band and see which gives you the best speed then lock it

This type of problem is probably not the fault of the router. Do the sim swap first. So that you can test it in other routers, including your X17U.

All my ODUs were originally registered with external Sims. That way, I am able to determine that my problem is the router or not, by putting the Sim in various routers I have. And that's how I am able to determine which of the ODUs I have touched performed better.

I think the problem your friend is having, since you comfirmed your ODU works in his place, is from that specific Sim and how it was registered. In other words, you guys have to rely on Airtel to fix the problem or get another ODU and ensure it was well registered and activated.

In any case, start troubleshooting with doing sim swap first.

This is the best ODU Airtel has sold, IMHO. I suppose the problem you're having is quality of cells/bands in the current location and/or Airtel's inherent problems.

Ppl are saying it. A friend of mine bought it a few months ago, but he couldn’t get it to work. After about four months, I went to his office and told him I could help him set it up—i paid the ₦25k. After doing all the setup, the best speed we’re getting is just 800 kbps. Now he’s saying he won’t pay me if the speed doesn’t improve. 😂 It feels like I’ve entered one chance, lol.

I will go back to him on Monday…. I was thinking of sim swap if it wont work because my zlt works fine at his office but this zte wont work ,
Pls hw reliable is the sim swap i wll use the sim on my extra zlt odu .. do u dis will work?

It's what I use when facing downtimes and it works.

I even use it to stream 1080P content flawlessly on Stremio.

Why not upgrade your plan to 50mbps for 25k? The money used for this sub will get you ODU with change.

I have two ODU red boxes, so that's not the issue. The problem I'm facing now is that my 4G router isn't browsing after I subscribed to the 20 Mbps plan. Does anyone know why?

It seems after using an odu for like 3 months the network gets better...on My previous one , I was getting high speed but this my new odu the network was fair. Getting like 13 to 19 Mbps most times .. after this current sub finished I will go back to my previous odu
