didnt we see the same thing during the egypt riots.

now all we hear from that country is they are killing each other and burning churches.

differences arent always a bad thing, imo. It's not by force to eliminate them. The key word is supposed to be tolerance of others, but if that's too hard to do in today's world then whatever. Who cares. angry

btw any christian over there sashaying in the streets in the name of politics na you sabi oh.

na you send yourself message oh, especially if you're a southerner.

By muslim run organization i dont mean a religious organization but a secular one.

Also, the tone of your post makes me wonder what kind of organization you applied to- was it a Christian one?

What i'm inferring from your comments is you have also had limited interation with christians hence they seem strange to you.

Smh.

I also wonder what if you were overseas where you'll be judged for being african or nigerian, for being educated and african, for being black (forget all the n.ymphos who are only interested in black p****k), or simply for whatever reason including village generational feuds.

What would you do then?

My point is all this fantasy you're concocting might one day ring true for you if you keep confessing it. No doubt in your mind christians dont like muslims, but have you considered the fact that you dont like christians either. Your dememanour will show these things.

So who is right and who is wrong here.

I'm not sure you're yoruba sha. Did you say you were? Just curious.

its unfortunate that you feel being a muslim means you have to be incompatible with others who arent muslim.

As per your up up Jesus comment- muslims say Allahu Akbar, Insha Allahu, Wallahi, etc, christians say Up Up Jesus. Other religons say their own.

Shouldnt be a big deal to you.

Brits say God save the Queen, Americans say God bless America, others say fork, hell or damn after each sentence, Australians say mate, and on a side note, muslims typically list some stock phrases each time they speak of a prophet or scholar in Islam. eg pbuh, as, etc. Did anyone complain about that.

Anyway, like i said, in nigeria its extremely difficult to get a good job without connections, and if you actually showed up for the interview with preconceived notions and/or looking down your nose at the interviewers for being "kemferi" then you only made it harder on yourself imo. If you apply for a job in a muslim run organization, is it an automatic assurance that you'll be hired simply because you're muslim? That seems to be your attitude, and this is understandable in an uneducated person but more surprising in an exposed and educated one such as you claim to be.

^True talk.

Some have to protest while others have to organize the protests from a safe location.

I'll respond to all of you later.

Firstly, are you aware getting a good job in nigeria is a matter of who you know, not necessarily what you know.

Did you read the thread last year about the girl who actually showed up for a job interview in a wedding dress because she was so desperate to get the position?

Secondly, do you and deols want people to start listing the muslims who control corporate nigeria and who are southerners?

E fe ko won sita abi?

Let us face it, the Southern Christian Corporate elite cannot stand the Muslim Intelligensia
a yoruba would not utter this kind of statement unless he or she wasnt raised in nigeria. Or maybe did not grow up in the southwest.

like yorubas care what religion you are as long as you can help them make money? huh

your post is simply untrue. undecided

Deols

well, your experience sounds very weird if you ask me.

The yorubaland that I know, consists of both christians and muslims and i find it surprising to hear a yoruba muslim say they never had contact with christians to the extent that they viewed christians as aliens from another planet.

That's why i asked you to narrow it down so i could have an idea where exactly such would be possible.

Maybe i grew up in a liberal part of nigeria, but i dont remember any single period of time when i could say i was not exposed to muslims or that i viewed them as weird. Even in primary school we learnt about Islam and Mohammed.

What you described sounds more like somewhere across from the niger- like the middle belt or far north.

I've interacted with conc muslims of different levels of persuasion while growing up and have met very strict muslims who had christians as their best friends. When i say strict muslims i mean really strict.

as with deols, i dont know what kind of environment you're in where you say you  didnt get a job because you were muslim.

Tht is a very unfamiliar scenario to me given the nature of the suthwest.

And saying somebody was surprised by the fact that a muslim could display intelligence, sounds more like something you imagined, than real life.
That simply does not ring true for yorubaland.

The only way you could have been singled out is if you appeared for the job interview sporting a caftan or looking like al queada instead of being dressed professionally. At least you say you're not female so we cant assume you went there in full body kaftan ie covered from head to toe with no single part of yuor body showing.

What exactly is unusual about someone showing a grasp of issues and when did it become an exclusive preserve of christians to do so.

I'm seriously starting to beleive some of you here arent yoruba because your words are very strange to me.

Christianity Etc › Re: Do People Worship God Because They Realy Love Him? by tpia5: 11:37am On Jan 05, 2012
And what's the meaning of living life to the fullest? huh

Having a s.ex addiction, being a drunkard and/or clubbing every night?

Becoming an armed robber?

So what if he's still not a christian, "lives life to the fullest" but still develops a health condition that makes it mandatory for him to make lifestyle modifications.

And what about people who lived life to the fullest but whose lives were still cut short by one thing or another.

My point is anything can happen regardless if you're pemanently in church or permanently out of church.
Family › Re: by tpia5: 4:38am On Jan 05, 2012
@ both scenarios in the original post

its a nigerian thing although that doesnt excuse the behaviour.

The men were probably tired or stressed out perhaps.

But such scenes arent unusual in nigeria.

Lovey dovey stuff is actually an oyibo or western thing and not too suited to the harsh nigerian climate.

As per fawehinmi- his father was the seriki muslumi. I dont know how much more muslim you can get than that.

Unless you want him to turn arab.

Dont know much about dangote but it seems your imagination is running away with you.

@ betathings

if abiola did not project himself as a muslim, what then did he project himself as? huh

You are just fabricating stuff out of thin air.

I suppose you forgot he won the nigerian election soundly in the north. Did he campaign as a christian or buddhist?
Islam › Re: Why You Don't Hear Southern Nigerian Muslims Responses On National Issues. by tpia5: 4:13am On Jan 05, 2012
^Dont you think that has something to do with the fact that the groups in question say they're muslims who are fighting on behalf of Islam? huh
Islam › Re: Why You Don't Hear Southern Nigerian Muslims Responses On National Issues. by tpia5: 9:36pm On Jan 04, 2012
As per the media issuing anti-muslim statements after the bombings- well i dont know anything about that.

I'm not in nigeria but i follow the nigerian news and i cant say i noticed any blanket anti-íslamic statements per se.

There was reporting on the activities and ideology of boko haram who we all know say they are fighting for Islam, but i do not remember seeing anti-muslim write-ups per se. There may have been anti muslim comments on various blogs and forums, but to say the media officially did the same, shouldnt be proferred without proof.

Anyone with links on this matter, should kindly post it here so i can see if i missed something.

The sapele bombings seem more like a case of in-fighting than anything else. Or an attempt to incite civil strife.

^Neither of you is being truthful here

the only person who is making no secret of her hopes and dreams is deols.

Can one of you point out any refernce to boko haram in the original post besides the little paragraph which mentioned the christmas bombings in passing.

Your thread title is also quite mischievious.

I did not feel like analyzing the write up point for point because if i do so na another thing.

Lets just agree its a deliberate attempt to incite mischief and leave it at that.

Olawalebabs who is fluctuating between various positions is the one claiming there are no muslim owned amenities in the southwest. After that was when deols jumped on the bandwagon (when i corrected that statement) to claim the ones on ground arent enough and there should be more. No one has a problem with the free market but i think everyone will have a problem with misrepresentation of facts.

If indeed you're looking to make an impact on the south, then why not start with finding a solution to the power supply problem.
Islam › Re: Why You Don't Hear Southern Nigerian Muslims Responses On National Issues. by tpia5: 8:11pm On Jan 04, 2012
^Playing the victim is what you seem to be doing.

I mentioned fawehinmi and abiola because even though they're late, they have instant name recognition and neither does that mean the thread and thread title arent deceptive and an attempt at miscommunication.

As you pointed out, most yoruba govenors are muslim- how that now translates to southern muslims not commenting on or being involved in national issues, beats me.

By all means get representation in any area where youfeel you are under represented.

However, if your dream is to introduce sharia law across southern nigeria and raise more muslims who will say they never saw a christian till they weere grown, then i'm afraid God can never be with you on that one.

Let me know when you feel you've achieved your goal because i want to know which spheres exactly you're claiming to have no representation in.

Events › Re: 2012 Brides by tpia5: 11:46pm On Jan 03, 2012
i think a wedding planner is essential for most weddings.

not really mandatory, but advisable.

the wedding planner could be the couple themselves, a competent and experienced relative/friend, or a professional, if funds allow.

a bit hard in nigeria though, due to large numbers of guests if/when news of the wedding gets out.

^^you both also ignore the contributions of mko abiola towards furthering Islam in the southwest? huh

and just for the record, did he not have all these things you listed?

concord newspaper comes to mind.

as for schools- there are muslim schools and universities everywhere in the southwest. Deols herself said she never saw a christian maybe till she was grown, due to her attending an exclusively muslim school where there were no christians at all.

Is Fountain University not a muslim university? And i'm sure that's not the only one because we're not even considering kwara when talking about muslim schools.

for hospitals, you mean to tell me there's no muslim owned hospital in the south. undecided

once again, lets leave out kwara since its not south.

I guess you'll claim there are no muslim doctors or healthcare workers of southern extraction. undecided
