Yes, he seems more like a writer.

And didnt he study history btw.

In any case, he seems to have enjoyed his time in ivory coast. Given the fact that he spent most of his life outside the east for the most part, i'm sure he probably found it a bit hard adapting when he was stationed permanently there by the war.

Must have been a huge relief for him when it finally ended.
Politics › Re: Why Did Adekunle Make This Statement by tpia5: 1:15pm On Nov 29, 2011
one would think adekunle was the only soldier who fought in that war.

bashr8:
this thread is not about awo but about adekunle, he was not the only soldier in the nigerian army , he is not hausa/fulani infact he was almost killed by the northern soldiers. what made him personally hate igbos soo much?
arent there reports adekunle personally helped igbos to safety in the north and was almost killed for it? huh

no one is commending whichever reporter published the interview in question, but the saying war is hell, isnt without basis.
Politics › Re: Lower All Flag For Ojukwu And Declare A National Holiday by Musiwa by tpia5: 12:45pm On Nov 29, 2011
Looking at the circumstances which made ojukwu a hero to his people- it might not be possible or advisable to have another hero like him.

Or who is praying for a repeat of those times? huh

Sometimes if the cost of unity is too high, then nothing wrong with democracy, or a form of it imo.

According to one of the female trainee drivers, Miss Ashuma Sarah:

"In February, when this project started, it seemed to many as though it was a complete joke; that women who cannot drive a car would be taught how to drive a 42-seater bus.

But today, what seemed impossible has turned out to be a huge success and something posterity will never forget.

some of these men hold such archaic views its quite embarassing.

in Edo State, it has become a common sight by commuters seeing female drivers at the State owned Edo Intra-City bus, otherwise known as the "COMRADE BUS".

The female bus drivers, 20 in number, were among the 59 that were trained for three months by the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC.

Apart from using the scheme to provide jobs for the teeming army of unemployed youths in the state, Governor Adams Oshiomhole also used it to demonstrate his conviction that female drivers are more sensitive to the plight of commuters, unlike their male counterparts. The Governor is also of the conviction that this drivers' scheme will go a long way in reducing the rate of accidents in the state.

Speaking during the passing out ceremony, Managing Director of the Intra-City Bus Service, Mrs. Edugie Agbonlanhor said: "It is expected that it will lead to high level service delivery and stem the tide of pilferage. We are also of the candid opinion that this development will become an enduring and sustainable employment strategy for the overall wellbeing and progress of the Intra City Bus Service".

She said that from the reactions of the public to the new scheme, and the ever abundant prayers for the person of the Comrade Governor by the passengers, "we can conveniently say in our opinion and without any doubt that there is no area of governance and delivery of democracy dividends that has surpassed the impact and deep appreciation of the Governor by the masses, than the provision of the Comrade Buses".

The public acceptability and popularity of the Intra City Service can be gleaned from available user statistics which show that within one year of commencement of business, the Comrade Buses recorded an average weekly turnover of 170,000 passengers and an average monthly turnover of 700,000 passengers with a total of about nine million passenger turnover in the period of October 2010 to September 2011, she said .

Within a year's period of its existence, the Comrade Bus project has apart from achieving the major objective and goal of alleviating transportation problems of the masses, also become a pacesetter among states that operate intra city bus services.

It is said to be the first to adopt the E-payment system to minimize cases of pilferage and the first in the country to train, employ and deploy female 42-seater bus drivers, which was the sole initiative of the Comrade Governor for women empowerment.

@ sezkillz

women overseas drive trains, luxury buses, any kind of buses, etc.

Its not a big deal or unusual over there.

Female pilots too.
Romance › Re: Would You Let Your Wife Drive by tpia5: 1:53am On Nov 29, 2011
But like i said, car in nigeria is considered a luxury not a necessity hence the attitude we see here from some males who feel women are encroaching on their territory by having the audacity to drive a car.

This is why the overseas experience is sometimes important. If you're stranded somewhere with approaching subzero temperature and the only person who can come to pick you up is a woman, let's see how nasty you'll be about female drivers.
Romance › Re: Would You Let Your Wife Drive by tpia5: 1:50am On Nov 29, 2011
I think edo state is training female bus drivers.

You know the women over there dont joke around when it comes to the nitty gritty of anything that brings in the dough.

They have female mechanics already.

Culture › Re: Meaning Of Dawodu by tpia5: 1:34am On Nov 29, 2011
Please learn instead of trying to teach.

I'm not aware of dawodu being used to refer to any eldest son in yorubaland- kindly provide definitive proof so i can stand corrected.

Dawodu is the yoruba muslim name for david.

I hope you're aware there's such a thing as a yoruba muslim name? huh

I thought you started the thread with david and dafidi. How did it become about an eldest son.
Culture › Re: Meaning Of Dawodu by tpia5: 12:34am On Nov 29, 2011
odumchi:
It might be "Dafid" since Steven is actually pronounced "Stefen" in Hebrew. But I was also thinking, isn't the name Daoda or Dauda?
steven is the english form of a greek name, from stephen, or stephanos.

In Yoruba, Dafidi is correct. Dafid is not.
Culture › Re: Meaning Of Dawodu by tpia5: 12:32am On Nov 29, 2011
all are variations of the name daood or dawood from arabic.

dauda, dawood, daood, dawodu, etc etc.

they all mean david.
Culture › Re: Meaning Of Dawodu by tpia5: 11:59pm On Nov 28, 2011
i think the v turns to a w same as with arabic, in the Jewish pronounciation.

or it remains v.
Culture › Re: Meaning Of Dawodu by tpia5: 11:54pm On Nov 28, 2011
my brother @op

dawodu is the muslim form of david.

dafidi is also correct since its a transliteration of the name david.

v is absent in yoruba, i believe. Its pronounced f instead.

you received a revelation? huh

from a nairalander:

My greatest phobia is to see a woman driver in my front. 99% of them know close to nothing about driving and most times they put other road users at high risk. I think it is high time the Govt should ban women drivers.
This absolutely my view. Period

in nigeria, a car is seen as a luxury, not a necessity, so some men do not like to be "upstaged" by the thought of a female driver.

there's a thread where they were cursing out female drivers the other time- let me see if i can still find it.
