Clap! Clap!! Clap!!! Mo patewo fun ire. I love your frankness. Children are Gift from God irrespective of whether they are born out of wedlock or not. I have never seen a child's birth certificate where it reads "Gbemisola Bastard" or "Adewale Born out of wedlock" or "Kemi Omoale".
seems there are many of you on the thread?

competition, if done the right way, boosts up the free market.

when done the wrong way, turns into a bunch of meaningless jargon and merry go rounds while going nowhere.

PoliticsRe: Some Lies Being Told About Yoruba Culture by tpiadotcom(op): 4:24pm On Nov 30, 2015
if, in your area, out of wedlock children are the norm, then that is your area, not general Yoruba culture.

It might also be peculiar to your family but in no way should be considered general.

PoliticsSome Lies Being Told About Yoruba Culture by tpiadotcom(op): 3:40pm On Nov 30, 2015
no 1 lie: Yorubas encourage having children out of wedlock.

This is the biggest lie being peddled at the moment. Yoruba culture DOES NOT encourage having kids out of wedlock.

Question you are asking: but I see a disproportionately large number of out of wedlock kids born to Yoruba men and women. How is this possible if the culture does not approve of it.

Answer: what you are seeing is a result of a combination of many factors. Some of these are:

-Targeted families where someone puts the daughter in the family way but does not marry her. This reduces a family's status socially (even if you have money). I am wondering if this is more common in families with some element of mixture, compared to those who are not, but I am not sure. Same applies when a woman targets a man with an out of wedlock pregnancy in order to hook his destiny and future.

These are instances of pre-planned scenarios, not inadvertent ones.

-The effect of globalization: people get alienated from their culture and take on the cultures they see abroad.

-Sexual liberation: also related to globalization. Yoruba culture traditionally encourages responsible sexual habits, not wanton ones.

- Cultic reasons

-Background: if a person's background makes it seem out of wedlock babies are the norm and you want to continue the cycle. This is an individual thing, not a cultural one.

-Role models: if whoever you consider a role model tells you to have kids out of wedlock.

etc etc.

@ ibebe , there is no way you can love the Yoruba tribe better than i do, love love love ERRTHING about us, It is so bad that work colleagues who are non yoruba call me "defender" cos i don't see nothing wrong in the yoruba way of life...

One told me sometime ago that if she didn't know better, she'd think i have a problem expressing myself in English or Gossiping cos i switch to Yoruba once i see any other kinsman/woman & i will stay speaking even if the person is responding in English. cheesy cheesy

One person from another tribe was trying to ridicule yorubas for having out of wedlock kids even as xtians, told her (+her group) that children are gifts from God & are all wanted, & we are way way better than "those" who throw out the pregnant teens, send them into the streets & sell "the" children!! lipsrsealed lipsrsealed ... They never repeated any of such near me!!! They know berra.. cheesy
Yoruba culture does not encourage out of wedlock kids, stop spreading misinformation.

however, if you do insist on becoming a baby mama or prefer your kids be born out of wedlock, nobody will tell you not to do as you wish.

the focus is on encouraging kids to think creatively, the instruments used are lego blocks which the kids are assembling into robots.

perhaps you missed that part.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria’s Education System Undervalued —buhari by tpiadotcom: 7:02am On Nov 30, 2015
TonySpike:
To me, the point of this speech is this:

"What is the true worth of an educated Nigerian?".

I don't think many Nigerians are truly educated judging by our thought-process, mediocre thinking and poor problem-solving skills.
there is no "worth" to measure of your fellow human being. Anyone who doesnt know this, is uneducated even if they say they have some qualifications on paper and passed through a school.

You dont judge people based on one particular subjective scale or frame of reference.

Poor problem solving skills, mediocre thinking and irrational thought process are symptomatic of problems which need to be examined by the person manifesting them, not doing so is what amounts to low self esteem which perhaps is what you are referring to.
