Top comedian act, Lanre Omiyinka did not have an idea of what tragedy was ahead of him when he left home to honour fellow comedian, Baba Latin who was having his anniversary in Abeokuta.

Just before he entered Abeokuta from, 23year old woman crossed the road and Baba Ijesha hit her and the woman,who was later identified as Surat Shonekan died instantly as she suffered multiple fractures. Eye witness said the woman was totally distracted by the phone call she was receiving that she didn’t see the car and Lanre too did not see her in time. Attempts for him to swerve away from hitting her, led him driving straight into a nearby bush and his Toyota camry is now a write off.

When visited Lanre in the hospital,staff of the hospital were running around to ensure he was okay and even the State commissioner for health Dr Salako was there and on Monday further tests will be done to ascertain if the neck injury also affected his spinal cord. Funny enough the two other occupants of Lanre’s car escaped unhurt while the police has towed the car to their station

The Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) has unveiled its nomination for its 2011 awards.
The prestigious award ceremony has gained recognition with six past editions and will be held in Yenegoa, Bayelsa on Saturday, March 26, 2011.

This year’s nominations list shows a huge variety of awards unlike its previous editions as categories like ‘Best Diaspora Documentary’, ‘Best Make Up’, ‘Best Nigerian Film’ have been included.

Nigeria’s presence is heavily felt as Nollywood star, Genevieve Nnaji has been nominated in the ‘Best actress In a Leading Role’ category for the movie ‘Tango With Me‘. Omoni Oboli has also been nominated in the same category for the movie ‘Anchor Baby’ and director Lonzo Nzekwe in the ‘Best Film for African Abroad’ category for the same movie.

Other popular Nigerian nominees are Tina Mba, Antar Laniyan and Jeta Amata.

A new photo shoot with Beyoncé Knowles has caused quite a stir because the singer's skin was darkened.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the cover shoot was for French fashion magazine L'Officiel Paris and there was a reaction to the R&B singer's skin being darkened, with critics saying the look is akin to 'blackface'.
According to L'Officiel Paris, the make up and clothing she donned for the photo shoot was a nod to the music of Fela Kuti.

Knowles was reportedly so moved by Kuti's music after watching Broadway musical 'Fela!', which is co-produced by her husband, Jay-Z, that she will be incorporating the late African musician's sounds in her next project.

''The whole movie set had waited for about two hours with Mike also waiting but lead actress  Mercy Johnson who is enjoying the 'attention' of some particular producers was nowhere to be found. Several attempts were made to call her to come to set but she wouldnt pick her call and those trying to reach her gave up the attempt and the whole set waited and waited, and waited and waited.

Finally Mercy breezed into the set and before anyone could say a word she vanished for a few hours again and the waiting game began again. Finally she showed up un-apologetic and after a while exchanged a few harsh words with the continuity manager who she threatened she would slap his ears off if he tried her.

Mike Ezeruonye and the producer on set approached Mercy Johnson and told her to take it easy and Mike even told her '' Mercy you used to be very humble, what happened to you? Please dont let this stardom thing get to your head, its really not worth it''.

According to eye witness report, that moment passed and when it was time to run their script lines, Mercy refused entirely to join Mike and insisted on running her lines from inside where she was seated, the producer begged and begged but Mercy refused to move and after a few frustrated attempts, Mike dropped his script and said he could not work like that and that when Mercy was ready to run her lines they should call him. He was really upset as he stormed out and lo and behold, Mercy who refused to come out all these while ran out after Mike and screamed behind him the words ''be intimate with YOU''.

Silence enveloped the venue as everyone dropped what they were doing with mouths formed ''O''

''excuse me?''

Mercy replied''you heard me,be intimate with you. You can do your worst''.

The able bodied men on the set immediately came between them and mike was physically restrained from going near mercy who empited a bile of swear words on Mike.

Mike stormed off the set and refused to come back to run any lines with the actress.

''The actress has been asked to apologise to mike who is her elder in nollywood but so far so good she has not done so,she is perhaps waiting for the media hype that will follow her actions and then she will publicly go on her knees to beg mike and earn the term''shes such a humble actress and will not even hesistate to go on her knees and beg when she wrongs anyone''.

Mike ezeruonye is one of the many Alist actors that have suffered ''insultive casualities'' in the hands of Mercy Johnson, one of her victims and older colleague Ngozi Ezeonu was so badly tongue lashed on set by Mercy that Ngozi would rather ''run into a moving train than act alongside the actress again''.

Foremost filmmaker and cinematographer, Tunde Kelani, is a colossus in the Nigerian entertainment industry. Having produced well over 20 movies, Kelani remains one of the most skilled veteran film producers Nigeria has ever produced.

A native of Abeokuta, Ogun State, Kelani was born in Lagos, but his achievements and passion for entertainment have catapulted him to the pinnacle of success.
Raised without the proverbial golden spoon, the now successful director of Mainframe Production, an internationally recognised film production outfit, has carved a niche for himself.

A 1978 graduate of the London Film School, Tunde has produced numerous award-winning films, among which are Ti Oluwa ni Ile, Thunderbolt, SaworoIde, O Le ku, Campus Queen and Arugba, among others. Kelani had worked with past great Nigerian artists such as Ulli Beier and film producers like the late doyen of Nigerian theatre, Hubert Ogunde.

However, despite successes recorded in his career, not many people knew that TK, as he is fondly called, threatened to abandon the profession that brought him fame, three years ago.
His frustration stemmed from the release of Arugba, which was produced three years back. There were high expectations that the film would bring him huge revenue, but that was not to be, as pirates feasted on it, throwing him into debt, which ran into millions of naira.

Lamented Kelani, “I had thought of calling it quits with the profession because of the issue of piracy. We were 22 people that started Mainframe Productions but now, only three of us are left. Others left because of what pirates are doing to the industry. When you produce films, pirates will not allow you to make money. We spent about N20 million to produce Arugba but because of piracy, we lost all the money. We did not make any profit on it. They (pirates) really dealt with us.”

As a Yoruba man, Kelani’s passion for Yoruba language is evident in most of his films, many were always in Yoruba language. This made him more acceptable in the Yoruba genre of the movie industry.
While growing up, he trained as a photographer. With experience garnered over the years, he has successfully produced high quality technical films. Meanwhile, his attempt to venture into the English language movies with the production of Thunderbolt, Campus Queen and , has not yielded much positive result because of what he called, ‘sabotage’ by the film marketers.

Kelani said: “We have been working on a new film, Ma’ami since August, 2010. We tried to have a turn-around time but due to finances, it was not possible to release it in time. In the next two weeks, we will round off the production. It will be premiered in Nigeria and so far, we have spent N25 million, with the support of the Lagos State government.

We lost money on Arugba, to piracy. We lost about N20 million. They really dealt with us. It was even pirated in London. Previously, our films have always been pirated, but it had never been as bad as Arugba. I had thought of calling it quits because of this but because of the passion I have for the job, I have been able to continue. To make sure that the new film is not like Arugba, we have decided not to release it into the market. It will be shown only at the cinemas.

Ma’ami is the true-to-life story of a hard-struggling, hard-surviving single parent who sees sacred responsibility in raising her only child, Kashimawo. Like every responsible Yoruba mother, Ma’ami would stretch herself to educate her only child. She runs a small stall that takes the mystery out of the myth of the middle-class. Her low class status naturally makes things extremely difficult and, at times, it can be very hard to fend for the child.

Kashimawo, however, rises from obscurity to become a twinkling star, revered by his fellow countrymen, especially since plying his trade as a professional footballer at Arsenal one of the most popular club in the United Kingdom. The story revolves around Kashimawo, who in the period leading to the 2010 World Cup, reminisces on his hardscrabble childhood in the southern Nigerian town of Abeokuta. The film features Funke Akindele, as lead character.

Details have emerged in the Guardian regarding the breakdown of wealth of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

Fast rising Nigerian act, Wizkid has apologized to his UK fans for not turning up at the ‘Basketmouth Lord Of The Ribs After Party‘ show which took place on Sunday, February 13, 2010.

Wizkid’s failure to meet up for the show was allegedly caused by a delay in his travel documents.

Hours before the show kicked off, the young artiste explained reasons for his absence from the Basketmouth show through the popular video sharing website, YouTube.

‘…due to circumstances beyond my power, i wont be performing. My team and I tried everything possible to get my documents out on time but a lot of things happened…we were unable to get it out. I’m truly sorry, most especially to Baskemouth for every inconvenience I’ve caused him‘, Wizkid explained.

Darey’s much awaited third album ‘DOUBLE DARE’, has finally been given a release date.

The double disc album which contains hit singles like the electric ‘The Way you are’ and soulful ‘Don’t let me know’ will be released on Monday, February 28, 2011 through his Soul Muzik label imprint.

Sources have reliably informed us that the two-time Project Fame West Africa co-host Joseph Benjamin was last week involved in a ghastly auto crash that left his car totally condemned.

Benjamin’s car was reportedly crushed as a truck reversed into him at the traffic point around Civic Centre in Victoria Island. The ‘Tinsel’ actor was unhurt in the happenstance but his car was badly damaged and is now a write-off.

‘He’s hale and good. I’ve spoken to him’, a close friend to the Kogi State born presenter tells NET.

Repeated effort to reach Mr. Benjamin on his mobile line was unsuccessful as at press time, as his phone rang multiple times to no answer. It was later switched off.

Joseph made his first appearance in the entertainment scene in 1995 with his role in ‘Tales by Moonlight’ and later ‘Crossroads’ – the productions which ushered him into Nollywood before he branched into TV presentation, where he gained more prominence and respect for his art

Oladehinde Fajana, the gentleman who manages singer 9ice could not hold back himself when he spotted E-24/7 reporter Odu Black, yesterday at a popular hangout in Lagos.

Fajana, popularly called Modef, told friends Mr Black, who anchors ‘The Reporter’ column in E-24/7, had written a lot of ‘damaging’ articles about him and 9ice in the journal.

In 2010, E-24/7 ran series of cover stories on 9ice and his many controversies – especially the issues of his separation from Toni Payne, his online and offline battles with Ruggedman, and all the drama with his producer ID Cabasa and other Coded Tunes acts.

But the magazine, owned by Biodun Kupoluyi was not alone in the reports. Many newspapers and magazines dedicated generous space to 9ice in 2010 – mostly for reasons other than his music.

But on the other hand, I’ve had to deal with the loss of my entire family: My dad, my brother, and my mom. It’s really more than I can handle, but I thank my friends, fans and the media for standing firm by me’.

Now putting all that behind, and working to make his departed ones proud, Iyanya has teamed up with Wazbeats, TY Mix and other producers to develop an album that he says ‘everyone will be proud of’.
