The 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match between Guinea and Nigeria will indeed take place in Conakry on Sunday, October 10, according to Guineenews. The Guinean FA said it received a fax from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) headquarters in Cairo on Thursday evening confirming the encounter between the West African countries from Group B. “We have just received a letter from CAF stating that the Guinea-Nigeria match will be held in Conakry on 10 October as planned. The Guinean authorities are requested to take all necessary steps to ensure a proper meeting. We have just informed the national coach Michel Dussuyer,” said a member of the Guinean Football Federation. CAF Interim Secretary General Hicham El Amramni signed the fax, according to the Guinean FA. “Furthermore, we have learned from official sources that a decision from FIFA on the lifting of the sanction of Nigeria is being expected at later in the evening,” the Guinean FA official said. FIFA early this week banned Nigeria from all football activities within two years for government interferences, prompting an automatic cancellation of the Super Eagles match against the Syli National in the second round of the qualifiers. http://www.goal.com/en/news/89/africa/2010/10/07/2155478/afcon-2012-qualifiers-caf-confirm-guinea-nigeria-match-will |

The Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON), the nation’s sole government approved collective management organization for musical works and sound recordings has announced that come October 1, 2010, the era of free music on Nigerian air waves and in public places will be gone forever. The announcement was made by COSON Chairman, Chief Tony Okoroji, at the Boardroom of the society in Lagos during the signing of a royalty collection agreement between COSON and Olusola Adekanola & Co, one of the nation’s foremost indigenous firms of chartered accountants. By the agreement, the skills and resources of the two organizations are being aggregated to ensure that starting October 1, no organization using music in a commercial setting or in public anywhere in Nigeria is allowed to do so without the payment of copyright royalties as required by law. According to Okoroji, “The time has finally come for everyone to do their duty. We have respected the users of music. We expect them to reciprocate that respect. Any of them that is not licensed by October 1 may be attracting sanctions from us or will be exposed to the full weight of the other tools in our tool box” At the agreement signing ceremony during the week, Chief Okoroji said that the choice of Olusola Adekanola & Co for the COSON assignment was based on the firm’s proven capacity to deliver. He said that their mandate is to use their nationwide infrastructure to reach every nook and cranny of Nigeria and collect the money due to long suffering Nigerian copyright owners. He added that beyond the collection of revenue, COSON is very mindful of the prudent, professional and transparent management of the copyright royalties collected so that at the end of the day the real copyright owners are not short changed. The implication of the new regime is that from October 1 all broadcast media organisations, hotels, restaurants, event venues, advertising companies, banks, telecoms establishments, airlines, road transporters, oil companies and such other enterprises in Nigeria which use music in any way to aid their operations will be made to comply with the Copyright Act or face legal consequences. source : http://beep-me..com/2010/09/no-more-free-music-on-air-from-october.html |

Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun State has lauded Nigeria’s contributions and active participation in international peace keeping operations dating back to 1960. Oyinlola disclosed this yesterday at the University of Ibadan while delivering a lecture titled “The Imperative Of Peace And Development”, at the10th anniversary lecture of the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, (CEPACS). The governor said that to date, Nigeria has participated in about 33 peace keeping operations around the world, adding that over 250,000 Nigerian army officers and soldiers have also taken part in peace support operations so far. According to him, Nigeria is the fourth largest contributor of troops to the United Nations (UN) peace keeping missions in the world and the country has spent $10 billion on the pursuit of global peace in the last 50 years. He, however, lamented that it would have profited humanity a great deal if such fund was channeled to human and societal development. Oyinlola advocated for the expansion of the permanent membership of the UN Security Council as well as the admission of Nigeria as a permanent member. While answering questions from journalists about the crises in Africa, he urged African leaders to refuse to become the political chessboard of the world powers. He said he has lost hope as regards any solution to the on-going crisis in Somalia, stressing, “I don’t know whether there will be solution in Somalia. Let us forget Somalia.” Source: PM news http://beep-me..com Sport and Entertainment news |
He said he would rather die for Jonathan than support other aspirants who have been symbols of oppression to the people of the oil bearing region of Nigeria. Dokubo who featured recently in a current affairs programme on LOVE FM 97.7 Port Harcourt, South-South Nigeria, called Editor’s Roundtable, said it will be inconceivable for anybody from the Niger Delta to be lending support to those he called symbols of oppression of the people of the region. He argued that as far he was concerned, those calling on Jonathan not to contest are not only political enemies of the region, but people who still harbour the primordial sentiment that the people of the region are second class citizens. He said that after taking “a good look at those coming to rule us again, I have no doubt in my mind that Jonathan is the most qualified, not because he is an Ijaw, but because he satisfies the constitutional requirement and he perhaps possesses the last chance of the people of the South-South region.” Dokubo also argued that from the pre-colonial era to date, the people of the South-South have been supporting the other regions to govern the country. “Why will they not support us now that divine providence has thrown up someone from the region to govern this country? When will a South-South person govern this country at the highest level?” On whether he will run for any political post in 2011, he said: “I don’t believe in the entity called Nigeria, and I cannot swear by its constitution. I don’t believe in the Nigerian constitution because we were not consulted before it was written. I will, however, support anybody who contests. Source: PM news

Controversial singer and producer, Gabriel Oche-Amanyi, popularly known as Terry G, has again been involved in a messy street fight with fellow musician, Side One, in Benin City. The fight, which later resulted in a free-for-all, took place at Wesley Hotel, G.R.A, Benin at about 1a.m. The two singers were lodged in the hotel by an entertainment outfit that had invited them for a show. The two singers had been at loggerheads before the show, following an allegation by Side One that Terry G usually performs his hit song, One By One, at shows without his consent. Trouble started when Side One, who had been bitter about the development, decided to visit the Ginger Ur Swagga crooner in his hotel room, perhaps to make further complaint on the issue. “When Side One was knocking on Terry G’s door, Terry saw him through the door hole and said ‘wetin this shoe shiner dey find? It was just a normal slang anyway, but Side One was angry and started shouting. He later forced his way into the Terry’s room where the fight started,” Terry G’s Publicist, Alex Ozone told P.M.NEWS this morning. Alex further claimed that “it was just a minor issue.” P.M.NEWS further gathered that when Terry G’s protégés known as House Of Ginger saw Side One fighting their boss, they pounced on him. It took the prompt intervention of the show organizers and other artistes like Ill Bliss to bring the situation under control. However, Side One, who was rescued from the scene, has been in and out of the hospital since the incident happened last weekend. When our reporter called Side One’s manager, Makinde on phone this morning, he confirmed the incident, adding that his lawyers are likely to take the matter up. “We don’t want to engage them in any war of words because Side One is an easy going person. But our lawyers will take it up. It was so sad because Terry G’s girlfriend in Benin, who did not even know how Side One was rescued from the scene of the fight, called the police to arrest me,” he said. Since Terry G hit the limelight of the Nigerian music industry a few years back, he has been enmeshed in one controversy or the other. About two years ago, he had a similar problem with AY.Com over the song Pass Me Ur Love. In an interview with P.M.NEWS then, AY.Com also accused Terry G of performing his song at shows without his consent. “I paid him [Terry G] to produce the song, and he actually begged me to feature in it. I also bought the costumes that he used in the video for him. So why should he be performing the song at shows at my own detriment?” AY.Com asked. http://beep-me..com/ Entertainment and sport news |

Telecommunication giants GLO who recently added hiphop stars P SQUARE to their long list of ambassadors have slashed D'Banj's endorsement fee from N70 Million to N40 Million and his contract has lots of clauses due to his face-off with the company during the Rock & Rule concert series organised by Globacom. So far, D’Banj is still the highest paid Globacom ambassador; but it appears he is taking his time before signing a new contract. In the case of Pasuma and Sunny Neji, their fees have been reduced by 40% and they both seem not to be happy about it. This explains why they shunned the unveiling event and are yet to sign the new contract. They were initially paid N20 Million each for two years but the new contract reads N12 Million for both acts for the next two years. They have made their intentions known about the fees but Globacom seems to have taken their final position on the matter. The new fees are: P Square - N35 Million for two years and a branded Land Cruiser Jeep which will soon be delivered to them Basketmouth - N30 Million for two years Sammie Okposo - N25 million for two years Ego Ogbaro - N15million for two years Ramsey Nouah, Kate Henshaw and Chioma Chukwuka-Akpota were signed for N30 million for two years. Pop superstar Beyonce wants a baby but will only start a family when she is ready. The former Destiny's Child singer told British More magazine: "My ambition is to continue to learn about the world and to eventually have a family. "There are no dates or times - it will happen when I am ready." Meanwhile Beyonce, who is married to rap megastar Jay-Z, wants to find time in her busy schedule to grow as an actor. She said: "Probably the biggest challenge in my life is time – making sure I have time to be a wife, a singer, a songwriter, an actor and still have time for my clothing line and now for my perfume." The 28-year-old added: "I think it is the hardest thing about being a woman because we have so many responsibilities." But the Single Ladies singer does credit her women friends for helping her handle her responsibilities and keeping her out of 'bad relationships'. She said: "I grew up in a singing group with other women, and that was so helpful to me. "It kept me out of so much trouble and bad relationships, I never want to betray my relationships because I love being a woman and I love being a friend to other women. beep-me..com For news on Entertainment and sports

THE Lagos State government on Wednesday terminated the road contract it awarded in 2009 to an indigenous construction firm, Messrs Bulletine Nigeria Limited, for lack of seriousness. The government had released N10 billion to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc as part-payment of the contract value before the termination was announced on Wednesday. Besides, the government paid a huge sum of money as compensation to owners of properties on the 50-kilometre road before the commencement of work last year. The termination of the contract which was announced at the site of the dilapidated road on the Iyana Ipaja-Egbeda- Ikotun road by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Mr Abiodun Johnson, who confirmed that the termination had become necessary due to non-performance by Bulletin Nigeria Limited. “The reason for this public announcement of the termination is to reassure the people of Lagos that the Lagos State government will complete the road before the end of the year. The government has an agreement with our contractors and we are duty-bound to abide by the terms of the contract. Once you do not abide by the contract, we will terminate the contract,” he said. The contract which was re-awarded to another indigenous construction company, Plycon Construction Company, that is handling the second phase of the road, is expected to be taken over and completed as scheduled. Speaking to confirm the readiness of the company to execute the project, spokesman of Plycon Company Limited, Mr Olaseni Akinwunmi, said that the second phase of the road would be completed in the next five months while the company would mobilise to the site of the phase one by today (Thursday). “We will move to site tomorrow, and we are sure that this section will be completed in five months time,” he said. But speaking further on the project, the Special Adviser reassured that the state government would do everything to ensure that the company completed the work before the end of the year, saying, “the government would want to give the people this road as a Christmas present by ensuring that it is completed before the end of the year.” http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/10506-lagos-terminates-lagos-badagry-expressway-contract http://beep-me..com for first hand news on sports and entertainment, |
