Politics › Buhari Mortgaging Nigeria’s Future – PDP by treesun(op): 2:14pm On Sep 15, 2021 |
Buhari mortgaging Nigeria’s future – PDPOn its part, the Peoples Democratic Party rejected the fresh move to obtain fresh foreign loans of $4bn and €710m.
According to the opposition party, the move by the President and his All Progressives Congress-led regime was another attempt at further mortgaging the future of Nigeria and Nigerians with less than two years left in office.
This was contained in a statement titled ‘Fresh $4bn, €710m loans: Buhari, APC are selling Nigeria, PDP cries out…urges NASS to probe looting of loans’, signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja, on Tuesday.
Ologbondiyan said, “The PDP vehemently rejects reported moves by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC administration to further mortgage our nation with a fresh of N2.66tn ($4bn and €710m) external loan.
“The party laments that with the reckless borrowing by President Buhari and the APC, Nigerians might eventually not have a nation and a patrimony that they can freely call their own, after the APC, which has less than two years to vacate office.”
Ologbondiyan described the proposed borrowing as an act of wickedness on the part of individuals who are fully aware that they will be leaving office in less than two years. It described the Buhari regime as “incompetent and corrupt.”
Attempts to get a response from the APC were futile. Calls to the mobile telephone number of the National Secretary, Senator John Akpanudoedehe, were not returned.
A response to a text message sent on the subject was still being awaited as at the time of filing this report. https://punchng.com/experts-others-carpet-national-assembly-as-buhari-plans-4bn-e710m-borrowings/

. It is alarming that our subject matter experts in borrowing, loan , taxation and debt management are keeping mute and watch as things deteriorate. Who will pay these loans, what are these loans being used for? We are wasting resources in the North East and North West fighting banditry, money that can be used to industrialized the whole of North and provide employments in Agriculture, Solar Energy, revive Textile industries, pottery and so on. North is blessed and can feed the whole of West Africa, but we have leaders who don't know what they are doing. This is what is putting pressure on the dollar, by Decemeber it may be N1 to $750. |

The Conservator General, National Park Service, Dr Ibrahim Goni, on Tuesday said about 1,129 square meters of forest reserves and national parks in the country were serving as hideouts for terrorists and bandits.
He stated that this was affecting the NPS to effectively meet its set objective which was to protect and conserve the biodiversity in the designated areas.
Goni however expressed the service’s readiness to partner with the Armed Forces of Nigeria towards safeguarding the nation’s forest reserve.
This was contained in a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Benjamin Sawyerr.
The CG was said to have led NPS management staff on a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
It partly read, “Dr Goni noted that there was a need to sustain the existing synergy, by working together to tackle the current security challenges facing the nation.”
According to him, these forest reserves and national parks which are approximately 1,129 square metres have become hideouts for bandits and terrorists.
Goni, however, stated that the NPS was established for the purpose of protecting and conserving the biodiversity in the designated areas which he identified as national parks, game reserves and forest reserve.”
Responding, the CDS, Gen Lucky Irabor, represented by the Chief of Defence Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal Sanda reiterated the commitment of the AFN in collaborating with the NPS, describing the Service as a key agency in the security architecture of the nation.
He maintained that the relevant stakeholders must support the organization towards ensuring that the forests are well protected against criminalities.
The CDS charged NPS on the need to dominate the nation’s forests in terms of intelligence gathering and sharing of information with the military and other security agencies so as to checkmate every form of terror and other crimes. https://punchng.com/bandits-terrorists-occupy-1129sqm-of-forest-reserves-in-nigeria-nps/Pix: Dr Ibrahim Goni

Some gunmen suspected to be herdsmen were said to have invaded Apiye Jim Village in the Atyap Chiefdom of Zango-Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing 12 persons. The latest attack, a source said, happened on Sunday evening during a downpour. Although there was no official confirmation from either the state government or the state Police command, the spokesperson of the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union, SOKAPU, Mr. Luka Binniyat, confirmed the attack to our correspondent on Monday. Binniyat said, “It is very true. They also killed another man in Atakshusho village about three kilometers from the initial scene of crime as they were retreating to make an escape. “Recall that an ECWA Reverend was murdered just on the outskirts of Zangon Kataf town, which our people have always complained of harbouring killers, time and again. “That will bring to 13 those killed in Atyap land, Zangon Kataf LGA. in the past 24 hours. “As usual, no one has been apprehended. We are awaiting details of the killings, after which we shall issue a statement later today.” The latest attack was coming in less than 24 hours after the murder of an ECWA Church Pastor, Rev. Silas Yakubu Ali, in the same council on Saturday. The attackers on Sunday evening were said to have targeted specific houses during the attack. The source, who craved anonymity, said on Monday that many of the villagers were still missing after the attack, but noted that, so far, no fewer than 11 lifeless bodies had been counted following the attack. According to him, the attackers came in large numbers and perpetrated the act in a jiffy and immediately escaped from the village. He added, “They (attackers) came while it was raining and divided themselves into groups. They targeted specific houses and when done, left immediately. “Scores of the villagers are missing at the moment. It’s impossible for one to ascertain the number of those injured and even those killed; but so far, l have counted and found 11 dead persons in different locations this morning (Monday). “The Atyapland is left to carry its cross in the hands of the attackers who moved from one village to the another killing, maiming, burning houses and destroying crops in farmlands at will, without being arrested. “With the various attacks and the occupation of our forest where we cultivate farms for our survival this year, we are busy trying to save ourselves from the attackers as people are not thinking of going to farm.” https://punchng.com/fresh-kaduna-attack-i-counted-11-bodies-in-different-locations-many-villagers-missing-sokapu-spokesperson/ |
