(AAUA), was on Wednesday arraigned at the Magistrate Court sitting in Akure, the Ondo state capital.

The 33-year-old Awolola was brought into the court premises by the officers of Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force around 9:30am.

The suspect was charged for having committed a rape, contrary to section 357 and punishable under section 358 of the criminal code cap 37 vol. Laws of the Ondo state of Nigeria.

Awolola, before his trial, had been dismissed by army authorities last week.

The suspect was said to have had carnal knowledge of the student on the July 31, at Ikare-Akoko military check pont, while the student was returning from the campus in Akungba-Akoko.

The offence according to the charge sheet is punishable under section 358 of the criminal code cap 37 volume 1 of the Ondo state of Nigeria.

Chief Magistrate Mayowa Olanipekun adjourned the case till Friday August 16, to give counsel to the suspect enough time to study the charge levelled against the soldier.

He said because the case was filed just filed on Wednesday morning, there was the need to give the suspect and his counsel time to study the case.

The case attracted various interest groups who came to court to witness the session.

A 43-year-old commercial driver identified as Kabiru Bello allegedly committed suicide at a mechanic workshop in Lagos on Saturday.

Bello, a resident of 77, Owode Ibeshe in Ikorodu allegedly drank insecticide suspected to be sniper at the workshop located at Ladylack Bus Stop, Somolu around 1pm.

It was gathered that the Bello was inside his bus with registration number AKD724XM when he drank the substance.

People at the workshop were said to have rushed him to Adesola Clinic in Somolu where he was confirmed dead.

According to police spokesman Bala Elkana, a Deputy Superintendent (DSP), homicide detectives visited the scene and discovered an empty bottle suspected to have contained sniper, adding that his body was deposited in mortuary for autopsy.

Meanwhile, policemen attached to Ilemba Hausa Division in Ojo at the weekend recovered two single barrel guns from fleeing armed robbers said to have fleeced a young man of his laptop.

It was gathered that the police has received distress call around 9:30pm on Saturday that suspected armed robbers attacked one Wale Lawal and dispossessed him of his valuable.

Elkana said a team of policemen were deployed to tail them, adding that the suspects abandoned their operational black Honda vehicle with number plate Lagos KJA705BU.

“On the spot search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two locally made single barrel guns with twelve life cartridges, one laptop and a mobile phone. The vehicle was moved to the station for further investigation,” he said.

Daddy Freeze has joined the social media conversation of 'Jesus being the only way to heaven' ignited by Maraji's post, with his opinion on the claim.

Recall we reported that Maraji's post which many described as 'offensive and insensitive' read "There is only one way to heaven. No Allah, no Buddha, no Krishna, no evolution, Only Jesus."

However reacting to the claim made by the Instagram comedienne, Daddy Freeze alleged that Jesus Christ was invented 400 years ago and was not known by people who lived on earth before then. The media personality and 'Free The Sheeple' leader further stated that the truth about Yahushua, the real son of Yahweh was destroyed at that time to make room for a manipulative, monetized and politicized ‘Jesus’ doctrine.

Admitting that Maraji's intentions are pure, Daddy Freeze however noted that her knowledge of the truth is in doubt and further asked her to embrace the truth so she won't end up having a zeal for God without knowing who He truly is.

Minna—NATIONAL Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Niger State Command, has arrested 55 suspected drug traffickers in different parts of the state between January and July.

Of those arrested, 27 have already been convicted.

Commander of the Agency in the state, Mrs Sylvia Egwunwoke, who made this known in an interview with Vanguard in Minna, said about 2,19.187kg of cannabis sativa; psychotropic substances, 1,104.267kg; pentazocine injection, 0.042 litres, and cough syrup with codeine, 10.4 litres, were seized from the suspects during the period.

She said: “Total solid drugs seized is 3,294.454kg, while that of liquid drugs is 10.442 litres.

“We cannot allow drug traffickers to take over the state. This exercise is a continuous one as we will not relent in dealing with those involved in drug peddling in the state and nation at large.

“We have reached out to traditional and religious leaders to mobilise residents to volunteer information on those in the illegal business in their midst, to purge the society of these addicts.”

Uduak Nseobot, a councillor in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has been arraigned before a state High Court in Uyo with his wife Aniedi, for allegedly assaulting a woman and stripping her naked in the public.

The couple were arraigned on charges of kidnap, assault, publicly stripping and forcing Aniedi's close friend Iniubong Essien to walk naked, after they accused her of stealing some money sprayed on them at their wedding.

Iniubong revealed that she assisted the Nseobots in cooking their wedding food but denied being the person that picked the money at the wedding. She was reportedly abducted from her home in Uyo in November 2018, driven to a village in Ibiono (about 27 kilometres) and paraded before a village hall around 10 a.m.

“I was beaten and forced to walk stark naked in the village hall, they removed my dress, my bra, and my pant, Ms Essien, who is over 40 told Premium Times.

“People were inside the village hall, I think he (the councillor) may have told them that he was bringing a thief for them to beat, so the whole place was filled with people.

“He was mixing charcoal with pepper to rub on my body, but he didn’t rub (it) on me. They tied a rope around my waist and said I must dance naked before the village people.”

Naked photos and videos of Iniubong were reportedly taken at the scene of the incident.

However in court, the name of Nseobot's wife who stays in US was struck out from the charge sheet following a request from the prosecution counsel Godwin Udom. The case was adjourned to October 14, for the court to hear the argument on the preliminary objection by the councillor's lawyer.

A police investigative panel on Friday August 9, visited Ibi–Wukari road in Taraba State where some policemen sent to arrest one Alhaji Hamisu linked to series of high-profile kidnap incidents, were shot dead by soldiers.

Recall we reported that the Nigerian army in its statement claimed it was a case of mistaken identity as troops of the 93 Battalion Takum thought they were kidnappers and engaged them in a gun battle.

At least 16 persons have reportedly died following an outbreak of yellow fever virus in Izzi local government area of Ebonyi State.

Many others are also receiving treatment at the Virology Centre and Iboko General Hospital in the State.

The virus invaded the community since July before the information got to the state ministry of health which quickly moved into the area to avoid further spread.

Dr. Chris Achi, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health in the state confirmed the incident on Friday to Journalists in Abakaliki.

He said the Federal Ministry of Health and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has intervened on the matter.

Achi, blamed the death of the 16 persons to patronage of quacks and use of herbs to treat the outbreak.

He appealed to the people of the state to always access health facilities located in their area.

According to him, a specie of mosquito called AEDES mosquito transmittes the virus to humans and it has three to six days incubation period in human body.

“Yes that is why we appreciate the community giving early information to the authority especially when they notice that there is unusual happening. We have always insisted that people should make use of our health facilities. In every 171 political wards in Ebonyi State, we have health center that will serve them.

“Incidentally about 16th of July, somebody called me from one of the villages in Izzi local government area that there is a way people are dying in the village that he is suspecting that something may be wrong, but I called health workers there who said no such case came to their clinic.

“I sent our rapid response team to visit the place, lo and behold when they got there, it was a case of yellow fever and unfortunately, we have had about 16 deaths from the place. So we moved to the place, conducted case search, those who already had the symptom, we moved them to the health facility at Ndungele and when it was serious, we moved some to the general hospital at Iboko and Virology center here in Abakaliki.

“But the problem about the outbreak was that our people did not believe that they will go to hospital when they experience this yellowness of the eyes, they believe that they can be treated with local herbs that’s why we recorded causalities which should not have been.

“We notified federal ministry of health and center for disease control. For the past two weeks, they have been in Ebonyi state to ensure control and they equally came with drugs and consignments.

“We are equally doing much to ensure that it does not spread to the capital city. Yellow fever is not transmitted from human to human. It can only be transmitted through Mosquito. There are forest monkeys that equally carry yellow fever virus and if mosquito bite the monkey and bite somebody in the forest it will pass the virus and if the mosquito bite another person, it will continue to transmit the virus that is the way the virus spreads. Yellow fever comes with fever, typhoid and if it is not detected on time, it will start eating blood and the person will go into coma”, Achi explained.

Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) on Wednesday raised an alarm that 12 corpses and 11 of their injured protesters are still in the police custody.

The group also said that 63 of their members arrested during the recent series of protests are still in the police custody without taking them to court according to the law.

Following the release of their leader Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, to go abroad for medical treatment, IMN said: “The time has come for those who mischievously claimed earlier that until the court decided the fate of Sheikh Zakzaky, they couldn’t do anything in spite of his deteriorating health and the incessant call for his release. Now that the court has acceded to the demand for treatment abroad, not only that we await prompt compliance but we also want to see expedition in the process of the trip.”

The group demanded for release of all the corpses and their members being detained, both the injured and the healthy, by the Police.

A statement issued by a top member of the IMN, Abdullahi Musa said: “We wish to inform the public about the continuous incarceration of the victims of Monday, 22nd July, 2019 police brutality. The victims had been severely injured before their being whisked away, and they are still languishing in police cruel custody. Again, police are yet to release twelve (12) corpses to their bereaved families for funeral prayers according to Islamic injunction, nine (9) of which were killed forthwith at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja and three (3) died under their detention. The families of those that were killed have made several attempts to collect the corpses, but the Police rejected their request. Now, over two weeks in the wake of the incident, the corpses are yet with the Police.

“Likewise, the Police continue to detain 63 protesters without taking them to Court. Out of the 63, 11 people sustained various degrees of serious injuries that required urgent medical attention. Despite their critical condition, the Police have only taken the injured ones to unknown location without given them the required medical attention. Even the families of the injured have made several attempts to provide medical treatment to them, but the Police turned down their request.

A phone dealer, Yusuph Da-Silva, 28, who allegedly specialised in buying stolen mobile phones from armed robbers, cultists and pickpockets operating in Ogun and Lagos state, has been arrested.

After almost three months of manhunt, the suspect was last week Wednesday arrested by the decoy team of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad over a robbery incident around Ifako-Ijaiye, where mobile phones, laptops and other valuables were snatched from their owners at gunpoint.

Da-Silva, popularly called Da-Gold in the Computer Village, Ikeja, and Ifako-Ijaiye areas, was said to have been on the run since the police began a crackdown on the gangs supplying him with mobile phones.

The suspect told the investigators that he bought over 30 phones a week and was making between N25,000 and N30,000 daily from dealing in stolen phones.

He also confessed to have maintained links with three armed robbery gangs, who constantly supplied him with stolen phones and other valuables.

The first gang, according to him, consists of Abiodun Tajudeen, aka Shalori; Drey and Moshood Akinwande, aka Orobo, who rob with a motorcycle.

The second gang, he stated, was made up of Ay and his cohorts, while the third was led by one Idaso, adding that the two gangs specialised in robbing residents at gunpoint in the Fagba, Iju Ishaga, Oke Aro and Ifako areas.

Da-Silva said he used to sell some of the phones at the Computer Village, while the others were taken to Kwara, Osun and Oyo states to make the tracking of the stolen phones difficult for security operatives.

According to the RRS, Tajudeen and Akinwande sold some phones and other valuables to Da-Silva earlier this year, which eventually led to the latter’s arrest.

Investigations revealed that both Tajudeen and Akinwande were presently in police custody for different robbery cases.

Da-Silva said the police team in Magbon arrested Ay’s gang members, who identified him as the receiver of all their stolen phones and after his arrest, seven smartphones were recovered from him.

He stated, “After Ay’s gang members were arrested, I resolved to wearing hoody sweatshirts, which I used to disguise in order to avoid security agents from identifying me.

“I have different colours and designs of the hoody sweatshirts and I often avoid some areas to prevent getting arrested while I continue in my business.”

It was gathered that Da-Silva stayed around the Fagba railway line, where the stolen mobile phones were first brought to before they would be taken to the Computer Village, Ikeja, for sale to retailers.

Da-Silva confessed, “I deal in smartphones. I have been a phone technician at the Computer Village, Ikeja, since 2012. When I realised that it wasn’t yielding enough money, I developed links with networks of boys on the streets, who ensured steady supply of phones to me. I wipe or flash the phones before selling them. I don’t collect the SIMs.

“They bring them to me daily. I get up to six or seven smartphones from them on a daily basis and I sell them to my customers in the Computer Village.

“The sale of those phones fetched me between N25,000 to N30,000 daily. I don’t bother to ask them about how they get the phones, because they had told me before that they were obtained through ‘stop and search’, meaning that they robbed their owners.

“I am not a robber. I have never followed them to rob. What I was doing before was Internet fraud until I started buying stolen phones from these guys.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Bala Elkana, said the suspect had been transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad for further investigation.
