Car Talk › Re: Tokunbo Shock Absorbers Vs New Shock Absorbers - Which Is Better In 9ja Context? by Troublemaker007(m): 1:35pm On Apr 08, 2018 |
MAKERIGHT: Naija indeed is a grey market, many of us have become very close to our mechanics more than our family members due to several visits to our mechanic over a short period of time. I visit my mechanic when I have to do an oil change or an alarm pops up on my dash board which needs to be resolved , this would have been after I have checked and scanned the car with my personal scanner and require my mechanic to replace the faulty component as the case may be. I hardly visit the mechanic for suspension related faults, this is due to the fact the suspension parts are high quality aftermarket parts produced by an OE manufacturer, this means I get to buy an OE part less the price of the OEM from a dealer Most cars brought into the country as tokunbo look good at the time of arrival into the country,no faulty suspension,no screeching brake pad noise and no check engine faults even after being used and driven for over 10 years overseas , once the car arrives Nigeria, the first oil replacement is done with sub standard oil filters and engine oil, as time goes by the suspension parts will require replacement, tokunbo parts or Chinko parts will be introduced as replacement parts for the same vehicle and you expect the vehicle to perform optimally or have a high resale value. As long as most of us are not economically empowered to buy original OEM or high quality after market parts, our visits to the mechanics will be regular. I have seen Toyota and Honda brake pads sold for N3000 and this parts were put inside the OEM packaging and looking at ebay etc you would find same for $50-$60 for the front brake pads, when you compare the prices then you do not have a reason to know that quality and safety have been compromised. N3000/360 gives you aprox $9 for brake pads haba!Chinko I hail you. There are some part that are good to be used as Tokunbo, these are body parts, etc doors and bumpers. You might not quantify the useful life of a tokunbo parts and at the same time the quality and reliability of a chinko parts is also compromised. Please go for genuine or high quality auto parts for safety and reliability. Bros you dey live for Naija? And secondly what do you mean by having your personal scanner |

sacramento1212: Lol...yes genuine Toyota parts are expensive. Genuine brake pads alone sef is over 20k compared to the ones being sold for 3k. And you will hear people say German parts are 3 times expensive than Toyota not knowing that most cheap Toyota parts are actually not original. Brake pad over 20k! That means I won’t change brake pad in the next 10 years be that. Ever since I changed the tie-rod and ball join in my corolla Sport I no longer feel the car again. |

Populus: I have a Toyota Camry 2001 (Drop Light). I was advised to change the shock absorbers when I noticed some funny noises each time the car bumped into a gallop. I changed the four shock absorbers in March 2017 and didn't really get value for money because the noise only reduced rather than disapear. I complained to my mechanic and that I wanted a new shock absorber and he told me a tokunbo is far better because the new ones don't last. Now I changed the shock absorbers again last month (October 2017) and it's even worse off! PLEASE I need to know: 1. Is a tokunbo shock absorber truly better than a new one? (Although I think a new one should be better) 2. Where in Festac Town can I get a good mechanic? (Not the flambouyant autoshops that know next to nothing speaking grammer in their air conditioned office.) 3. Where can I get very good shock absorbers? (New or Tokunbo) Note:The ones fitted in my car where bought from Ladipo Market! 4. What is the price range for these Shock absorbers?
GAZZUZZ, CarDoctor et al. Your Input will be highly appreciated. If you hear price of original shock absorber you go convert to legedis Benz. Not all those nonsense we are buying. I went to a legit Toyota shop to get some parts price quote for my Corolla Sport. Ordinary Stabilizer link i dey buy for 3500 is 40k, front shock absorber is 140k, back shock is 180k. I pick my car up, put am for head and ran as fast as I can. |

Sometimes I ran out of words to describe the current state of this nation. Everything is absolutely wrong in Nigeria right now. The fact we sleep at night, wake up in the morning, go out to our various hustling and return back home in one piece is by the special grace of God. Anyone Who have money should simply relocate to another Africa country or overseas and live quietly in peace because worst days in this country are yet to come.
