it is kind of debatable if we were to factor in the time period

ancient evidences refer to usage of specialized units for special purposes other than conventional warfare

i have come across references in china india japan European countries etc

infact there r references to dedicated psy ops units in ancient times.

British WW2 'behind the enemy line' forces were not termed as SF but were rather referred to as 'commandos'

musing a little here smiley

personally i was involved in a sister organization which was handed the task to research into over 1000 + year old ancient war fighting strategies , formations, techniques involved in logistics etc etc.

one unique thing which caught our eyes was that in the manuscripts we went through we came across descriptions of special 'shoes' which were designed to increase endurance of foot soldiers encumbered with heavy loads not thinkable even with the fittest modern soldiers. hell! 3 soldiers would barely get the job done.

based on the info which we could decipher we tried to replicate , but were only partially successful , that was 3 years ago , i left for different company/org so dont know what happened . compartmentalization is implemented very strictly so chance r slim that i would ever get to know about it.

PS : the military formations used in ancient time as described in the manuscripts were found to be better/efficient than some of those used in the modern times , lets say these were implemented to good effect with necessary modifications and validated in war room gaming simulations and later corps level military exercises .

old is gold after all grin
those were the days when being in the military was a thing of pride to men.

but i get what you're saying. times have changed, so will battlefied tactics.

Henry240:
Dude, there is nothing like SF and SOF, there is just SF. Special Forces.

The usage of SF units in the Middle-East is a clear indication that warfare is fluid and can change, so strategy and policy makers have to keep with this constant change of warfare.

SF units were initially created to deal with the Soviet threat or the possibility of Soviet Invasion of Western Europe. Since this never happened and the Soviet Union collapsed the application of SF units changed to deal with the threat posed by extremism and radicalism in the late 80's and early 90's.

Your claim that operations in the M.E do not represent the core of SF operations is absolute nonsense.

Nigerian units are relatively young, but in that short period they have engaged in countless operations not just in Nigeria but across Africa which has helped to define the doctrine they operate by. With each changing threat, doctrine would be improved upon as warfare isn't static.

The IPV launched by the Nigerian army is one of such steps geared towards enhancing operational capabilities.

Ops are Intelligence driven, this is why Recon is one of the roles of SF units, not the only role.

Like i said previously, mission type would determine mission equipment. Quick raids or Airborne raids would be carried out by so called SPVs, Direct Action raids which SF units also carry out would be prosecuted with equipment that sooth that role. Hence the use of a wide array of vehicles by SF units, not restricted to Recon alone.
point of correction.

SF was formed during WW2 to sabotage/gather intel on german military infrastructures.

ProgrammingRe: I Want To Learn Programming. Which Language Should I Start With? by TrueHeart365(m): 3:50pm On Feb 05, 2017
omaraji:
Hey Nairalander, here's what u should do!
Depending on what it is you want to make or do, your choice might already be made up for you. To build a website or webapp, for example, you should learn HTML and CSS, along with JavaScript and perhaps PHP for interactivity. If your focus is mostly/only on building a mobile app, then you can dive right into learning Objective-C for iOS apps or how to program with Java for Android (and other things). If you're looking to go beyond one specific project or specialty, though, or want to learn a bunch of languages, it's best to start with learning the basic concepts of programming and how to "think like a coder." That way, no matter what your first programming language, you can apply those skills towards learning a new one (maybe in as little as 21 minutes).
Most of the "mainstream" programming languages—such as C, Java, C#, Perl, Ruby, and Python—can do the same—or nearly the same—tasks as the others. Java, for example, works cross-platform and is used for web apps and applets, but Ruby also can do large web apps and Python apps similarly run on Linux and Windows. Note that many languages are modeled after each other, the syntax or structure of working on them is often nearly identical, so learning one often helps with learning the others. For example, to print "Hello World," Java and C# are syntactically similar just as Perl and Python.
There are basically 3 routes: build mobile apps/games or website or Quantitative Modeling/statistics/general algorithm. Where do you belong? Once u re done with that read up how programmers think( I have a couple of videos and study guide on this). Then start with Python! However If u are totally into building apps only (100%). Then Java will be a good start
Hey! Don't worry about C++, most of the code structure for Java suits C++, so increasing your knowledge Bank will be less of a challenge. Please do not start with C++.
please can you send the video materials for the introduction to programming. i can't seem to find it for free. my whatsapp number :07063911932

or you could drop a link to where i can get it. thanks

Are you for real? Did you even read the exchange at all?

I'm at fault for asking why the South-African commando is wearing pink boots, instead of providing a reply, he goes on to make a claim that I'm being emasculated because of the professionalism the Senegalese have shown, despite the fact that I've posted 80+ photos of the Senegal army in 3 days.

Can you read at all? Where am i at fault?

Over the past 3 days, I've shared 80 photos, showing the Senegalese army. Including glowing tributes to the level of professionalism the Senegalese have shown in their deployment, which by the way is second to none in Africa.

If i was feeling weaker, i won't do that. However from your very own outburst it is clear for everyone to see that you're feeling insecure and emasculated by the Senegalese show of force.

I find your behavior to be rather unfortunate and most pitiable, as one would assume that seeing another African country doing well should be a thing of joy. All the Nigerians who comment here are happy, the Kenyans and Ghanaians are thrilled, the Namibians are enjoying the photos from Senegal.

So, why are you, a South-African, unhappy? Why are you sad? Don't you wish Senegal well?
bro, not taking sides here but na you get fault.

Guy, i'm not playing devil's advocate. Right from the start of this Gambian crisis i have been against military intervention in Gambia, my position hasn't changed.

We need to, as Africans, tow a different path to law enforcement. The use of military option should be an absolute last resort. Military actions in Africa simply don't end, every where you look their a soldiers fighting for a range of issues which could have been settled diplomatically or politically without the use of force.

We have to develop our democratic, law enforcement and judicial institutions.
well put Henry, so lemme ask this question.

if all other options fail (including sanctions) and he goes further to forcefuly put down any opposition, what next?

this is not about fighting the gambian people, it's about removing one man who refuses to respect the will of his people

Rugged7, M14A1, Tdayof, Odunayaw and all the war mongers in this thread not duly mentioned, I completely disagree with a military intervention in Gambia.

-First, what gives Nigeria, Senegal or ECOWAS the legal intervention to seek military action in Gambia.

- Institutions in Gambia need to be allowed to take it's full course in Gambia. I don't agree with Jammeh's refusal to leave Power, however i don't support military intervention is a sovereign country all in the name of democracy. Recent history has shown invasions of sovereign countries all in support of democracy don't work. It has worked in Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Yemen, Etc etc. So what proof is there that it would work in Gambia?

Let us not try to gag Gambia because it's a small country, ECOWAS has no right whatsoever in the internal affairs of Gambia. There are serious allegations of foreign interference in Gambia, let these claims be investigated and substantiated first.

This is a domestic issue, neither Nigerians, nor Senegalese have the right to interfere in Gambia's domestic issues. Rather ECOWAS should Support the institutions in gambia to make a change in government happen. Support for the police, military, judiciary to take action.
you forgot it worked in ivory coast and obasanjo's threat of military action to sou tome ended a coup.

Gambia is too small to cause the kind of problem you're talking about. plus since it's senegal's backyard (if they'll permit it), they'll put all they have to prevent a prolonged conflict. they have a decent military

with naval and land border blockade jahme will come seeking for asylum if he sees the seriousness.

do you seriously think Gambia has independent institutions? abeg forget diolomacy for this one ocheesy.

the guy is trying to portray ECOWAS as weak so not acting will prove his point. we can't have that.

some times force is the only option you have.

Okay, your article clearly states the Russians use the MI-24 in the dedicated attack role, and are now only been replaced in that role by the MI-28.

However, all through today, you have been telling us the MI-24 is not a dedicated attack helicopter. undecided undecided

You have only ended up contradicting yourself. The article also doesn't mention the Russians have been buying new build MI-35m helicopters also.

The fact about the matter is the MI-28 which has a crew of 2 men, can still carry 3 additional soldiers . Your own article proves this. 5 men in all.

My question remains, what then is the MI-28?

You have proven to be unable to answer this little question.
stop confusing yourself bro. i can see you just want to argue for nothing. i don't have that time.

the russians still use the hind but not in the dedicated AH role anymore as it was replaced by mi-28. the russians had different doctrine as regards AH and came to realise the mi-24 doesn't fit that role of a dedicated AH so had to replace it with a lighter and faster one.

they could have used the mi-35 instead, since it's the an upgraded mi-24.

comprehend bro. it's not rocket science

for your last question, it's dumb since you've decided to ignore the answer i purposely posted from the article.

abeg rest this matter

Dude, you're simply going round in circles. Answer this, the MI-28 Attack Helicopter can carry 3 additional personnel/soldiers, so what is it?
you seem to me like someone looking for an excuse to be wrong.

i won't bother after this. so do us a favor and go through this article cos i don't understand how a "dedicated" AH will sound strange to someone who claims military knowledge.

"The Russian Army received their first Mi-28Ns in 2006 as a replacement for their aging Mi-24 Hinds in the dedicated attack role."

"Interestingly enough, despite its classification of "attack helicopter", the Mi-28 Havoc features a three-person passenger compartment just aft of the main cockpit (similar to the larger Cold War-era Mil Mi-24 "Hind" series helicopters). However, this compartment is intended moreso as a rescue feature for downed airmen than for the transporting armed combatants into battle"
