We take everything too far in Nigeria including church and religion.
If not, tell me why churches and mosques should have loud speakers everywhere outside.
I once lived next to a church where there was no noise. Are they not worshiping the same God or Allah?

Never seen a President who is as mean and brutal as the old man.
Those who think that Dasuki is in detention due to the role he played in Jonathan's admin are in denial.

PoliticalWitch:
[s]Wow....it is sad that they don't teach history in Nigeria...or that Nigerians are blind to history.

1.IBB was considered worthy of a state visit in 1989 because at the time there was a superpower called the USSR. And the USSR had a lot of influence in Africa. Hence the West needed to counter that influence....to secure access to raw materials, etc.

2.Also, in 1989, South Africa was a pariah state. Hence Nigeria became far more important than it is.

3.IBB was a dictator. A very wicked dictator. Let's count the ways

-Established the SSS (now DSS)....under whose regime opponents dissapeared into jails
-Brutally supressed student riots in 1986. Lots of students died. 22 in ABU Zaria, alone. Thanks to the Army and MOPOL moving in on HIS orders.
-Allowed religious crisis to fester in Nigeria.(between 1986-88 there were several religious crisis in Nigeria...including 1987 when Zaria , Kaduna state was on fire. 130 churches burnt)...
-Entered us into OIC (Organisation of Islamic confrence)..without discussing it with the AFRC (Ebitu Ukiwe, the former Second in Command ended up resigning as a result)
-Dele Giwa died under his watch...possible collusion from the SSS and millitary intelligence
-Executed 9 supposed coupists in 1986 (including his one time best friend Mammman Vasta).
-Worsened the economy with things like SAP, and also started all this black market in foriegn currency(before 1986...Nigeria had one exchange rate...until IBB brought in SFEM....which mutated into the parallel exchange rates we have today).
-Wrecked our education sector...making it worse.
-Under his regime..the health sector got worse...it was bad...but it got worse.
-Masterminded a transition programme that ended with the denial of MKO Abiola's mandate (and no, I don;t think MKO was what Nigeria needed...he was as corrupt as IBB..and was IBB's good friend and collaborator...but let's be honest...democracy is democracy..which is why I have respected the result of every vote since 1999...even though I hate both APC and PDP)
-Mass looting, corruption, etc...happened under his watch.

That the fact that you guys feel mad about APC winning in 2015...and Buhari....makes you whitewash IBB just because of a few good and nice pictures of IBB with the Queen...is really sad. Nigeria under IBB was in all sorts of trobule. And when he left power in 1993...he left us in crisis...which maximum dictator Abacha manipulated to take over in 1993...to spend 5 more years in deep sh**...until Fate intervened to save us from permamnet dictatorship.

And Nigeria was a mess back then. The US had us listed as a drug trafficking nation. And it was in 1989...the year of this visit...that 419 crimes began in Nigeria.

Don't justify evil Of any kind.

Yes, APC is no good. But IBB was no better[/s].
Rubbish. Wasn't this current president a dictactor? If so, list his flaws too.

Sowore's biggest mistake was thinking Nigerians don't like to suffer. They fucking enjoy that shit!

A people deserve the leaders they get. It's never the other way round.

Blacks for instance, would still be slaves till date in America if they didn't fight ruthlessly for their liberty and freedom

Hello house. Some of you might be familiar with this username. I'm the guy who was on this platform months ago asking which of the cars to buy and start a transport business b/w toyota and honda.

Thanks to moderator who moved the topic to fp and i got the answer i needed.

I bought a vehicle 'bus 18seater' and kicked off the business. The business has been filled with pains and joy but i always keep my head up.

Two days ago the car failed break so i parked it by the road hoping to return the next day with a mechanic since it was night. Coming the next day, electric pole and fence fell on the bus and damaged it beyond repairs.

The cause of the accident is as a result of the gutter a construction company dug.

Should i sue d company? What should i do. Am confused and depressed. 60% of the money i used in buying the bus was a loan. I haven't paid it.

Pls lawyers in nl advice me.
I hope the advice you have gotten already will discourage you from taking your life. Taking your life shouldn't even be on the table because there are millions out there who are in worst shape or situation than you. You should hang in and look for other alternatives.

You and OP are from a POOR family, rich families do their thing in-house and don't send anyone to go and investigate OSU for them. They simply give Umunna money to buy 10 cows and celebrate their kids marriage in the village while they host the cremes of society in Hilton Abuja or Eko Lemeridien in Lagos.

Imagine Peter Obi telling Umunna to go and research if Air Peace CEO whose son wants to marry his daughter is OSU, it will never happen tongue

OSU is for poor Igbo folks.

Non Igbos here should take note of this about those still trying to propagate it
You are naive. ignorant and ill informed. I am not here to boast about poor families and rich families. Tell us about your rich family or shut up. You may not even be an Igbo person to begin with. Peter Obi's family will have serious issues marrying from an osu family. This has nothing to do with wealth or influence. Do your research well and stop writing rubbish.

RomanceRe: Osu-Caste System Is Taking The Love Of My Life Away From Me. by Trutherme:
Christopherrrr:
Hello Nairalanders, greetings. My name is Christopher (pseudonym) from the Eastern part of the country, Imo State to be precise. I'm a man in his early 30's. I have an active account here but I had to sign-up for another account for this thread.
Please pardon my grammatical errors and blunders. MOD please help move to FP.

Few months back, I fell in love with a pretty lady with a beautiful soul. She is 28. Though we are running a long distance relationship but the current in the communication link can power Kanji Dam. Lol!! We can be on calls for hours since the very day I met her. There is a fair share of the feelings, affections, respect and regard for each other. It's not one-sided. Though we have been opportune to be together thrice since the past 10months we met. I have had plans to go about engagement and marriage arrangements this coming festive period though I haven't made this known to her.

She gives me joy, she gives me happiness, she prays for me, she blesses me. There is a part of me she unraveled that I never believed existed. Above all, she gives me peace of mind.

Fast forward to last month, I invited her to a family event. I introduced her to my family as my girlfriend. Instantly everyone fell in love with her. My mum was allover her and she was indeed up and doing. She didn't disappoint me. Not pretence, she has a good home training.

When she left same day after the event, my mum proclaimed her love for her. She said, "Olee ebe isi choota udi nwa nke a?" (Where did you find this kinda girl from?). This made me drop a tear of joy thereafter because I've always prayed for such from her any day I introduce a lady to her. This also happens to be my first time.

Fast forward again to 2weeks later, my dad requested I confirm her community and kindred properly because we happen to come from the same LGA. I didn't even know they have started making inquiries for me even before I asked them to. I confirmed from her and informed my dad. Only for them (my parents) to break the news to me days later that we can't marry from their kindred because they are regarded as Out-Casts (Osu-Cast System). Right now, I can't contend my heartbreak. I'm so devastated and confused.

This has been a long-term tradition that has been for centuries that I don't think it's in my capabilities to do away with it or do otherwise.

My problem now is how do I break the news to her for a breakup because we can't continue like this.

I have never ceased to love her less since the very day I learnt of this. In fact, she gives me reasons to love, cherish and adore her every single day. I still do that to the brim and don't have regrets. Quote me, her type is rare. I love this girl with every breath I take. I just cry myself to sleep every night after our long calls.

Please advise a brother because I'm in a deep state of dilemma.
shocked
This is sad and unfortunate bro. I feel for you and anyone who has been in love can relate to your predicament.
The Osu Caste system is still in place among the Igbo people and I honestly don't think it will go away anytime soon. Parents have killed themselves or died of heartbreak because their sons or daughters went ahead and married someone who is labelled an Osu. Those who went ahead and married each other end up with total excommunication from family members. The fact is that those who are telling you to go ahead and marry this girl will not live with you and feel all the pains after you marry her.

I had a similar experience but mine ended well. After I introduced my then girlfriend, the only thing my mom said was 'ok we shall see' After a couple of months, she told me that all was ok and that everything was ok. I was stunned to find out that they sent my uncle to Imo state and he spend a whole day making inquiries and asking questions about my wife's family. I believe they did the same thing on my family but my wife probably didn't know if they did.

My advice is to bring this terrible news to your girlfriend. You may be surprised by her reaction because there may have been others before you.
