Wike Does Not Follow The Rule Of Law, My Criticism Not Personal – Ireti Kingibe.
Senator Ireti Kingibe said FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has failed to engage elected representatives of the territory, despite some visible achievements, especially in road construction. Speaking on Politics Today, she praised specific projects but criticised what she described as Wike’s frequent disregard for the rule of law, stressing that oversight is her constitutional duty, not a personal attack. Kingibe clarified that her letter thanking the minister for rehabilitating a road was not political support. She also lamented the lack of regular consultative meetings with lawmakers, noting that past ministers held monthly forums, and highlighted unresolved issues such as waste management and security. She expressed hope for better cooperation in the new year to improve governance in the FCT.
Fubara says most of Wike’s projects done in ‘debt’ but I don't want to talk
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has revealed that many projects commissioned by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, were not fully paid for, leaving contractors and workers owed millions and billions of naira. Fubara stated this while commissioning the Aleto-Ogale-Ebubu-Eteo Road, saying contractors are now coming forward to demand payment .
Fubara inherited 34 uncompleted projects valued at over ₦225 billion and has since awarded nine new road projects worth ₦534 billion. He emphasized that his administration is committed to transparency and accountability, and is working to address the debt burden left by the previous administration
Fubara has taken steps to address the issue, including canceling a ₦134 billion renovation contract awarded without due process and ordering a refund of the ₦20 billion mobilization fee.
JUST IN: Fubara did no wrong, you carried the man from his bedroom to the chair of governor–Nwanyanwu tells Wike
Jan 7, 2026
The National Chairman of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Chief Dan Nwanyanwu, has offered his analysis of what went wrong between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor Nyesom Wike, placing primary responsibility on the former governor's approach to their relationship.
In an interview on Symfoni TV while reacting to the ongoing political crisis between the two leaders, Nwanyanwu suggested that Wike's error was in failing to recognize appropriate boundaries after his successor took office.
"Fubara did no wrong other than trying to be a puppet. No governor can be a puppet to anybody. You carry the man from his bedroom to the chair of the governor, you must know and realize where to draw the lines," Nwanyanwu stated, acknowledging Wike's role in Fubara's rise while criticizing his subsequent expectations.
The ZLP chairman described what he sees as the natural consequence of excessive control. "By the time you start overreaching yourself, talking as if you are God, the man will say, 'Wait, this governorship I'm holding, am I not empowered to do?' And don't forget, people will also be advising him. That is the beginning of the problem," Nwanyanwu explained.
He concluded by suggesting that successful political transitions require restraint from predecessors. "But there are also governors that have good relationships with their successors because they did not overreach themselves," the chairman said.
Most of the projects he commissioned were not fully paid for. Many of the workers who executed those projects are still owed and are now coming forward during my administration to demand their payments. The outstanding amounts run into millions and billions. I have said I don’t want to talk - Gov. Sim Fubara
Mbanda: You never can tell. It's too early to judge unless you are among those that wants Obi to fail so that tinibu will continue showing Nigerians pepper 🌶️
Atiku don talk. Atiku team don did their assignment well. Obi should deputize Atiku in 2027 presidential election
The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Nyesom Wike has asked Ajibola Basiru, national secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to apologise to the FCT minister within 48 hours.
On Monday, Basiru asked Wike to resign his appointment and focus on what he described as an “obsession” with Rivers state politics.
Wike had asked the APC national secretary to stay off Rivers politics.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by Etim Isong, factional zonal publicity secretary of the PDP south-south, the faction condemned Basiru’s “personal attack” on Wike.
The group said Basiru’s remarks were inappropriate and capable of undermining the administration of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election.
The statement said it was perplexing that Basiru, who “failed to produce a governor for the APC” in Osun state in 2023, would seek to question the political relevance of Wike in Rivers state.
The faction said Basiru’s suggestion that Wike’s support for Tinubu was no different from that of other non-APC supporters showed “amateurish political judgment”.
“To imply that Minister Wike’s support for President Tinubu is no different from that of other non-APC supporters is a clear indicator of amateurish political judgment,” the statement reads.
The group said Basiru’s call for Wike to resign as FCT minister portrayed him as an opponent of the Tinubu administration.
“Senator Basiru’s call for the resignation of a performing minister like Nyesom Wike portrays him as an opponent of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and an enemy of the Nigerian state,” the statement reads.
The PDP faction said Basiru was unfit to occupy the office of the APC national secretary and called on him to resign.
The group also accused Basiru of attempting to deploy divide-and-rule tactics in Rivers state politics, warning that such efforts would fail.
The faction said Basiru must issue a public apology to Wike and the people of Rivers state within 48 hours.
“He has 48 hours to issue a full apology to Minister Nyesom Wike and the people of Rivers state,” the statement added.
The faction warned that failure to apologise could result in Basiru being declared persona non grata in Rivers state.
The group described Wike as a national leader of the PDP whose influence in Rivers politics remains decisive.
The statement noted that even Siminialayi Fubara recognises Wike as the political leader who built the structure that produced him as governor.
The faction said the APC could not downplay Wike’s role in Rivers politics or his impact on electoral outcomes, including the 2023 election.
“In politics, ingratitude is an offence, and biting the finger that prepares your meal is even a more unforgivable offence,” the statement added.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that no 2027 presidential aspirant will step down in the African Democratic Congress presidential race, adding that all aspirants will present themselves freely.
Atiku, in a statement released on Tuesday by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, called on Nigerians to resist efforts by the All Progressives Congress to intimidate and weaken the opposition.
The former Vice President’s comments came amid speculation that he is facing pressure to step aside for a Southern candidate to emerge as the ADC’s flagbearer in the upcoming election against President Bola Tinubu.
Atiku added that if anyone should step down, it is President Bola Tinubu, whose leadership he described as a growing national liability.
The statement read in part, “For nearly three years, Nigerians have endured one of the harshest periods in recent history, an era defined by punishing economic policies and shrinking democratic space under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“True to form, this administration has not only inflicted widespread hardship but has pursued a calculated effort to eliminate political alternatives. The objective is clear: a creeping, de facto one-party state.
“Perhaps the Tinubu administration’s most disturbing achievement has been the systematic weakening of opposition parties, leaving the All Progressives Congress—despite its manifest failures—standing alone by default, not by merit.
“Thankfully, patriotic leaders saw this danger early and chose resistance over silence by rallying around the African Democratic Congress as the nucleus of a credible national alternative.
“Predictably, agents aligned with the Presidency are now attempting to destabilise the ADC from the outside, issuing reckless prescriptions about its internal affairs, particularly the choice of a presidential candidate.
“Let it be stated plainly: the ADC is on a national rescue mission. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, alongside other committed patriots, is central to this effort. Any call—overt or covert—for Atiku to step aside is a gift to authoritarian ambition and a betrayal of the Nigerian people.”
He added that the ADC is committed to ending the purported misfortunes brought about by the Tinubu-led APC, stressing that no form of intimidation, manipulation, or sabotage will derail this mission.
It continued, “The ADC has consistently affirmed its commitment to an open, transparent, and competitive process for selecting its flagbearer. APC proxies and external meddlers have no standing to intimidate, blackmail, or sabotage this democratic resolve.
“At present, the ADC is focused on building strong ward, local government, and state structures nationwide. Disruptors and infiltrators must allow the party to do this essential work without interference.
“The party remains open and welcoming to all genuine opposition figures. This inclusiveness—not coercion is the soul of democracy.
When the time comes, all qualified aspirants will present themselves freely. No one is stepping down. If anyone should step aside, it is President Tinubu—whose leadership has become a national liability.
“The recent public declaration of ADC membership by former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi in Enugu, the political heartbeat of the Southeast, triggered open boasts by a serving minister and presidential aides about plans to undermine the party. Their fear is evident.
“Let there be no ambiguity: the ADC is determined to end the misfortune imposed by the Tinubu-led APC. No amount of intimidation, intrigue, or sabotage will derail this rescue mission. Nigeria will not surrender its democracy without a fight."
If Wike makes his son the governor of Rivers State, he will still have problems with him after. Wike brought Fubara to King Ateke Tom for approval and blessing, but now he is warning Ateke to stay away and let them play their game...Very laughable because Ateke is a man who doesn't talk, real hard men move in silence. He dug out a grave for his irrelevance and political end that day.

ME: The one important condition Wike didn’t add to Fubara out of Wike’s goodwill is stop Fubara from knacking his wife around 5:23am without permission.
Rivers: You can’t cry foul now — PDP blasts APC over Wike
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) has no right to complain about the conduct of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, insisting that the ruling party must manage the political consequences of its own actions in Rivers State
Mirasteel: The best think Fubara did was defecting to the ruling Party, with that Wike won't be able to do anything to him and APC governors have his back.
yes. Fubara was very smart and escaped the defeat.
