An Indian national reportedly died on Wednesday after an attack by an Iranian suicide boat on a US-owned oil tanker near Iraq. The rest of the 27 crew members were rescued and taken to Basra.

The incident took place when the US-owned, Marshall Islands-flagged tanker Safesea Vishnu was attacked off the Khor Al Zubair port inside Iraqi territorial waters.

Sources close to Safesea told news agency PTI that the company was ‘devastated’ by the loss and urged the Indian government to strongly condemn the attack and take urgent measures to ensure the safety of crew members in the region amid rising tensions in West Asia.

“The Zionist regime (Israel) has consistently perpetuated a vicious cycle of ‘war, negotiations, ceasefire, then war again’ throughout its disgusting history. We will break this cycle,”

Iran has spurned two messages from Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, seeking a ceasefire as its leaders sense it is not losing the war and the US president is at the minimum feeling the political pressure.

The foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, has further said a unilateral declaration from Trump that the US had won the war would not bring an end to the conflict. The implication is that even if the US announced a willingness to end its attacks, Iran might be willing to continue the conflict in some form, or keep its chokehold on shipping seeking to navigate the strait of Hormuz.

Iran believes there can be no end to the conflict until it believes Trump has been shown the economic, political and military cost is so high that it is not worth repeating. It is instead insisting on a permanent deal that includes a US commitment not to attack Iran again.

“Certainly, we aren’t seeking a ceasefire,” Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said on US social media company X.

“We believe the aggressor must be punished and taught a lesson that will deter them from attacking Iran again.”

The Iranian speaker accused Israel of perpetuating a recurring pattern of conflict and diplomacy.

“The Zionist regime (Israel) has consistently perpetuated a vicious cycle of ‘war, negotiations, ceasefire, then war again’ throughout its disgusting history. We will break this cycle,” he said.

US President Donald Trump has reportedly told shipowners to “show some guts” and transit the Strait of Hormuz after a Dynacom suezmax loaded with a million barrels of oil left the Middle East Gulf for the first time since the start of the war.

The 159,000-dwt Shenlong (built 2009) signalled its position off the coast of India on Monday after a five-day break in AIS transmissions while it transited the Strait of Hormuz, according to ship tracking data.

Traffic through the strait has come to a near standstill since the start of US-Israel airstrikes against Iran nine days ago.

Several blasts rocked central Israel on Monday, seriously injuring at least two people, emergency services said, shortly after the military reported it had detected new missiles launched from Iran.

Paramedics were “searching a number of scenes and treating two unconscious males in serious condition”, the Magen David Adom emergency service said in a statement.

Andrey Kelin said Russia had a 'good relationship' with Iran but denied it had received any request for help with the air strikes that started more than a week ago.

It came amid reports that an Iranian drone that hit a British airbase in Cyprus was equipped with Russian military hardware.

RAF Akrotiri was struck by an Iranian drone fired from Lebanon on Sunday, and it is understood to have contained a Russian-made Kometa-B navigation system.

The piece of technology was first seen in drones that were intercepted by Ukrainian air defences in December.

Speaking to Sky News's Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips, Mr Kelin said: 'We are not neutral. No way neutral. We are supportive to Iran, of course.

'And we consider, as I have said, very negatively what is being done.'

Asked if they would provide material support to Iran he added: 'You know that we have all sympathies with Iran. They are our neighbours.

'We have had always a very good relationship with Iran. But for the moment, as it has been announced yesterday, Iran didn't ask for any assistance or help.'

The US has eight THAAD systems globally, including in South Korea and Guam. The batteries cost about $1 billion each, with the radar comprising about $300 million of that, according to the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
“These are scarce strategic resources and its loss is a huge blow,” said Tom Karako, a missile defense expert with the Center for Strategic and International Studies. The Army’s current “eight-battery force is still below the force structure requirements of nine set back in 2012, so there aren’t exactly any spare TPY-2 lying around,” he said.

Satellite photos show that an RTX Corp. AN/TPY-2 radar and support equipment — used by US THAAD missile defense systems — was destroyed at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan in the opening days of the war, CNN reported earlier, citing commercial satellite imagery. The destruction of the equipment was later confirmed by a US official.

Data gathered by the Foundation for Defense of Democracies think tank show two reported Iranian strikes in Jordan: one on Feb. 28 and one on March 3. Both were reported to have been intercepted.

Air and missile defense systems in the Gulf region have been stressed and, at times, overwhelmed by Iranian retaliatory attacks of drones and ballistic missiles. It has prompted fears that stockpiles of advanced interceptors such as THAAD and PAC-3 will soon run dangerously low.

A Saudi Arabian official allegedly claimed on Monday that the United States "abandoned" Gulf countries amid the raging conflict in the Middle East.

"The US abandoned us and redirected its air defense to protect Israel," the unnamed official reportedly claimed while on air on Al Jazeera, adding that "they left all the Gulf states that host American military bases at the mercy of Iranian strikes."

The alleged comments emerged after the Iranian strike on Saudi Aramco's key oil refinery in Ras Tanura, which caused a fire at the site.

The additional systems, currently based in South Korea, would be relocated amid Operation Epic Fury to better protect US and allied forces in the region.

Systems that may be relocated include air defense systems from US Forces Korea (USFK), such as Patriot missiles and the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system. In addition, surveillance and reconnaissance resources, such as MQ-9 Reaper drones, which have been stationed at Gunsan Air Base in South Korea since last year, might also be reassigned to support the operation.

South Korean Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back held a phone conversation with US Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby to discuss Operation Epic Fury.

The South Korean Ministry of National Defense stated that both sides reiterated the strength of the South Korea-US alliance in light of a rapidly shifting international security landscape.

March 5 (Reuters) - U.S. military investigators believe it is likely that U.S. forces were responsible for an apparent strike on an Iranian girls' school that killed scores of children on Saturday but have not yet reached a final conclusion or completed ​their investigation, two U.S. officials told Reuters.
Reuters was unable to determine more details about the investigation, including what evidence ‌contributed to the tentative assessment, what type of munition was used, who was responsible or why the U.S. might have struck the school.

The girls' school in Minab, in southern Iran, was hit on Saturday during the first day ​of U.S. and Israeli attacks on the country. Iran's ambassador to the U.N. in Geneva, Ali Bahreini, said the strike killed 150 students Reuters ​could not independently confirm the death toll.
The Pentagon referred questions from Reuters to the U.S. military’s Central Command, whose spokesperson, Captain Timothy Hawkins, said: “It would be inappropriate to comment given the incident is under investigation.”

The CIA is working to arm Kurdish forces with the aim of fomenting a popular uprising in Iran, multiple people familiar with the plan told CNN.

The Trump administration has been in active discussions with Iranian opposition groups and Kurdish leaders in Iraq about providing them with military support, the sources said.

Also on Tuesday, President Donald Trump spoke with the president of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (KDPI), Mustafa Hijri, according to a senior Iranian Kurdish official. KDPI was one of the groups targeted by the IRGC.

Trump called Iraqi Kurdish leaders on Sunday to discuss the US military operation in Iran and how the US and the Kurds could work together as the mission progresses, two US officials and a third source familiar with the conversations said, as first reported by Axios.
