Israel's battle against the Iran-backed Houthi terror groups in Yemen may be more difficult than previously thought, an anonymous Israeli official told The Washington Post on Friday.

One key difficulty is The Houthis “are more technologically advanced than perceived by many,” the official said while stressing that the terror group should not be “underrated."

The official went on to explain that thanks to the backing from the Islamic Republic, the Houthis have been able to take “practical steps” in pursuing their ideology, which calls for the destruction of Israel.

“The Houthis want a war of attrition on Israel, to continue firing so that they can say, ‘We are the real resistance,’" Yoel Guzansky, a former official on Israel’s National Security Council, told the Post.

Part of the Houthis plan is based on simple economics, Guzansky explained. While the Houthis drones and missiles cost only a few thousand dollars to launch, Israel's interceptions cost tens of thousands of dollars.

A Houthi missile strike has injured more than a dozen people in Tel Aviv, Israel.

The Israeli military said attempts to shoot down a projectile launched from Yemen had been unsuccessful and it landed in a public park early on Saturday.

A Houthi military spokesman said the group hit a military target using a hypersonic ballistic missile.

The Houthis, an Iran-backed rebel group that controls north-western Yemen, began attacking Israel and international shipping shortly after the start of the Gaza war in October 2023, saying they were acting in solidarity with Palestinians.

Israel's military says about 400 missiles and drones have been launched at the country from Yemen since then, most of which have been shot down.

After the missile strike early on Saturday, Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel's emergency medical service, said it treated 16 people who were "mildly injured" by glass shards from shattered windows in nearby buildings.

Another 14 people who suffered minor injuries on their way to protected areas were also treated, it said.

Earlier this week, Israel conducted a series of strikes against what it said were Houthi military targets, hitting ports as well as energy infrastructure in the Yemeni capital Sanaa. Houthi-run Al Masirah TV reported that nine people were killed in the port of Salif and the Ras Issa oil terminal.

The Houthis have vowed to continue their attacks until the war in Gaza ends.

A gay Israeli soldier recently unfurled an LGBTQ flag on Gaza soil – making good on a self-made vow to bring a rainbow pride flag into battle against Hamas.

CNN - The Israeli cabinet looks set to approve a ceasefire deal in Lebanon later Tuesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s spokesperson said, a move that could potentially end the war that has killed thousands.

Netanyahu had approved the plan “in principle,” a source familiar with the matter told CNN on Monday, adding that the prime minister signaled his potential approval for the deal with Hezbollah during a security consultation with Israeli officials Sunday night.

Sources familiar with the negotiations said earlier that talks appear to be moving positively toward an agreement, but acknowledged that as Israel and Hezbollah continue to trade fire, one misstep could upend the talks.

But later Monday evening, a Lebanese official familiar with the discussions said a ceasefire is expected to be announced “within 24 hours.”

Lebanon has already agreed to the US-backed proposal, which received Hezbollah’s approval, according to multiple Lebanese official sources.

Reports that a deal was nearing were met with a mixed response in Israel. Itamar Ben Gvir, the country’s far-right National Security Minister, called the deal a “big mistake” and said it would be “a historic missed opportunity to eradicate Hezbollah.” Ben Gvir has also long worked to thwart potential ceasefire deals between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

Benny Gantz, who resigned from Israel’s war cabinet in June over Netanyahu’s handling of the war in Gaza, called on the prime minister to make the details of the ceasefire deal public.

“It is the right of the residents of the north, the fighters and the citizens of Israel to know,” Gantz said.

Residents of northern Israel – many of whom have been displaced by the conflict, along with residents of southern Lebanon across the border – have also expressed concern about the potential deal.

Nizan Zeevi, who lives north of Kyriat Shimona in Kfar Kila village, told CNN many residents view the deal as a “surrender agreement.”

“Our government is going to sign a very irresponsible agreement that is only a replay of the same agreement” signed to end the war in 2006, Zeevi said. He said he feared the deal would in time allow fighters in the Radwan Force, Hezbollah’s special operation unit, to move closer to the border once more and “live right next to” him and his family.

“It’s my duty to my children to make sure that there is no chance for another October 7,” he said, referring to the Hamas attacks on southern Israel more than a year ago.

DUBAI, Nov 24 (Reuters) - Iran is preparing to "respond" to Israel, Ali Larijani, a senior adviser to the country's supreme leader, said in an interview published by Iran's Tasnim news agency on Sunday.

On Oct. 26, Israeli fighter jets carried out three waves of attacks on Iranian military targets, a few weeks after Iran fired a barrage of about 200 ballistic missiles against Israel. Iran has previously vowed to respond to Isarel's attacks.

In his Sunday interview, Larijani accused the United States of orchestrating the Israeli actions in the Middle East, including its operations against Iran.

"Israel was counting on the United States' support when planning its operation against Iran, with many US resources and aircraft operating in the region to assist them," he said.

"It can be said with certainty that the Americans are orchestrating events here. But why are they doing this? Because they prefer to engage in a "shadow war," staying out of sight while pushing others into the forefront," the senior advisor to Khamenei said.

He also called on the incoming administration of Donald Trump to stop its support for Israel and prevent what he called the tarnishing of the US image in the region.

"It seems that the United States and its current leadership, which has undergone changes, need to gain a proper understanding of the situation. The officials of the Zionist regime (Israel) are drowning themselves and dragging the Americans down with them, tarnishing the US's reputation in the region," he said.

The US special envoy on antisemitism, Deborah Lipstadt, said she was horrified by the attacks in Amsterdam, which were "terribly reminiscent of a classic pogrom" and that she was deeply disturbed by how long they had lasted.
