WASHINGTON, July 13 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump said on Monday that the United States was reinstating a naval blockade on Iran and would be reimbursed 20% on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz after ​Tehran claimed it had closed the vital waterway.

Russia is planning an armed “provocation” on Polish soil to test Nato’s resolve, the United States has warned.

Polish critical infrastructure could be targeted by missiles and drones or Russian soldiers could cross the border into Nato territory.

The goal of the Russian provocation would be to escalate tensions and force Western allies to suspend aid to Ukraine. It could be launched in a matter of months.

According to Onet’s security sources, provocation scenarios could include a drone attack on critical infrastructure, such as power stations, or simulated air strikes that would force Poland to activate its air defence systems.

The same source said an armed incursion involving Russian or Belarusian soldiers was conceivable.

This could be presented by Russia as an accidental straying into Polish territory because of a GPS failure, or as a dubious rescue mission to retrieve a helicopter suffering from a malfunction.

Russia would count on the fact that, instead of opening fire on Russian or Belarusian soldiers in such a situation, Poland would be forced by the US to negotiate with Russia or Belarus rather than respond forcefully, Polish sources told Onet.

A scenario in which the Russians would withdraw from Poland as a result of those negotiations, rather than because they were forced to do so by military means, would be seen as a win from Moscow’s perspective.

An end to Western support for Ukraine could even be a central Russian demand of such talks in return for withdrawal from Poland.

A prisoner advocacy group said Wednesday the “shocking” photo of Palestinian journalist Mujahid Bani Mufleh after six months in Israeli detention shows the ongoing “tragic” conditions in Israeli prisons.

“Israeli prisons have turned into a tool for slow and direct killing of Palestinian prisoners," the Palestinian Prisoner Society said in a statement.

Bani Mufleh posted a photo of himself on Wednesday after a long treatment journey for an illness he contracted while imprisoned by Israel. The photo showed part of his brain skull removed as a result of surgeries he underwent while in Israeli detention.

The Palestinian journalist also lost significant weight, appearing noticeably pale and almost unrecognizable.

U.S. President Donald Trump's administration on Monday created a nearly $1.8 billion fund to compensate victims of political "weaponization" to settle a ​lawsuit Trump had filed against his own government over the alleged mishandling of his tax records.

The President, his sons Don Jr and Eric, and the Trump Organization filed suit against the Treasury and IRS in the Southern District of Florida federal court after the leak of their tax returns.

The $1.776 billion fund will have the power to issue formal apologies and monetary relief owed to claimants. It will be governed by a five-member commission appointed by the Attorney General, with Trump given the power to remove any member.

While Trump is barred from directly receiving payments from the fund, entities associated with him are not explicitly prohibited from filing additional ones.

The settlement drew immediate fury from Democrats, among them Senate Finance Committee member Ron Wyden, who said it represented a brazen new level of corruption.

MAGA evangelical leaders gathered this week at Mar-a-Lago and at Trump National Doral Miami to bless and dedicate a towering gold statue honoring President Donald Trump , in a ceremony that is already drawing praise from supporters and criticism from opponents who compared the spectacle to religious idolatry.

The 22-foot gold-leafed statue, dubbed "Don Colossus," depicts Trump with his fist raised, recreating the gesture he made after surviving the July 2024 assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania. The sculpture was unveiled on Wednesday during a dedication ceremony led by evangelical pastor Mark Burns, one of Trump's closest religious allies.

Burns, who has repeatedly described Trump as protected by God, told attendees the statue was "not a golden calf" but rather "a symbol of resilience, freedom, patriotism, strength, and the willpower to keep fighting for the future of America."

President Donald Trump said Tuesday he is pausing "Project Freedom," the U.S. military's effort to guide commercial ships out of the Strait of Hormuz, one day after the operation began.

Trump, in a Truth Social post, said the decision was based in part on "the fact that Great Progress has been made toward a Complete and Final Agreement" with Iran.

(CNN) - AAA is now reporting that the average cost of gasoline in the U.S. rose to $4.45 a gallon on Saturday.

That’s up 34 cents from a week ago.

It’s also an increase of $1.47 since the start of the war in Iran on February 28.

WASHINGTON, (Reuters) - The Republican-led U.S. ​Senate on Tuesday blocked a Democratic-led resolution that would have barred ‌President Donald Trump from military action against Cuba without congressional approval.

The Senate voted 51 to 47, almost entirely along party lines, on a procedural measure that blocked a war powers resolution, as ​members of Trump's party argued that there are no active U.S. hostilities ​against Cuba.

Under Trump, U.S. forces have launched strikes on boats off Venezuela and ‌gone ⁠into Caracas to seize President Nicolas Maduro, and, with Israel, waged war on Iran since February 28, all without authorization from Congress. Trump has said "Cuba is next." He did not specify what he plans to do with the island nation, but has frequently said ​he believes its government ​is on the ⁠verge of collapse.

The White House says Trump's actions are within his rights, and ​obligation, as commander-in-chief to protect the U.S.

President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States sent weapons to anti-government protesters in Iran through Kurdish groups, during the nationwide protest that lasted for days in January 2026.

Speaking in a telephone interview with Fox News on Sunday, Trump said the weapons did not reach the protesters.

“We sent them a lot of guns. We sent them through the Kurds. And I think the Kurds kept them,” Trump said.

“We sent guns to the protesters, a lot of them. And I think the Kurds took the guns,” he added.

Trump was referring to the Kurdish population, which lives across Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria. Several Kurdish militant groups operating in Iran have been designated as terrorist organisations by the Iranian government.
