The White House cited that case as an example of South Africa taking positions against Washington and its allies.

The person responsible for the Sweden school shooting has been identified as 35-year-old Rickard Andersson.

Ten people were killed at Risbergska school by a gunman Rickard Andersson, named by Swedish media, who afterwards turned the gun on himself. A Bosnian citizen is also among the dead, the country’s foreign ministry announced on X. No victims have been officially named by Swedish police.

Forensic medical experts are currently working at identifying the bodies of those killed in Tuesday’s mass shooting.

Lars Bröms, leading operations to identify the deceased, said on Tuesday that he hoped the identities would be revealed within 48 hours.
Interviews will also be conducted with the relatives of missing people, Mr Bröms added.

Spain and Ireland, two countries that last year recognised the State of Palestine, voiced opposition against the unexpected proposal, which upends decades of America's foreign policy.
"I want to make something very clear: Gaza is the land of Palestinian Gazans and they must remain in Gaza," Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares said on Wednesday morning. "Gaza is part of the future Palestinian state."
His Irish counterpart, Simon Harris, said he would judge the White House "based on what they do.
"We need a two-state solution, and the people of Palestine and the people of Israel both have a right to live in states safely side by side and that’s where the focus has to be,Any idea of displacing the people of Gaza anywhere else would be in clear contradiction with UN Security Council resolutions," Harris added.

Italy
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani: "It seems to me that as far as the evacuation of the civilian population from Gaza is concerned, the response of Jordan and Egypt has been negative, so it seems to me that it is a bit difficult (to implement the plan)," Tajani said.

Netherlands
"For the Netherlands, there is no doubt: Gaza belongs to the Palestinians," Veldkamp said. "Our position is and remains unchanged: the Netherlands supports a two-state solution. That means an independent, viable Palestinian state alongside a safe Israel."

Previously, Trump had suggested that Jordan and Egypt should be prepared to take in around two million displaced Palestinians – a proposal both countries have rejected.

On Wednesday, Jordan's King Abdullah stuck down "any attempts to annex land and displace the Palestinians,"

Israeli air strikes are continuing in Gaza ahead of the ceasefire agreement and hostage deal with Hamas, which comes into effect on Sunday, subject to the Israeli cabinet's approval.

A doctor in Gaza City's Baptist Hospital said staff "did not rest for one minute" during the "bloody night".

"The injured kept on coming," Dr Amjad Eliwah told the BBC. "The dead were sent directly to the morgue."

He said "for a little while, everyone was happy and joyful", following news of the ceasefire.

"Then the same people who were happy were dead."

Donald Trump has shared inflammatory video content calling Benjamin Netanyahu a “deep, dark son of a bitch” just weeks after the Israeli leader claimed the two had a “very friendly, warm” discussion about hostage negotiations and Syria policy.

The president-elect posted the clip to Truth Social featuring economist Jeffrey Sachs, who accuses Netanyahu of manipulating US foreign policy and orchestrating “endless wars” in the Middle East.

In the video, Sachs – talking at a Cambridge Union event – claims Netanyahu has pursued a systematic strategy since 1995 to eliminate Hamas and Hezbollah by targeting their supporting governments in Iraq, Iran and Syria.

“[Netanyahu’s] gotten us into endless wars and because of the power of all of this in US politics, he’s gotten his way,” Sachs says in the interview, referring to the influence of pro-Israel lobbying groups.

Trump’s aim in promoting the video was not immediately clear.

The president-elect has a history of re-posting clips and images that criticize establishment policies in Washington, but the repost comes amid intensive diplomatic efforts by Egypt, Qatar and the current US administration to broker a truce deal that would include hostage releases.

Trump’s decision to amplify Sachs’s comments also comes as he assembles what Israeli settlers are dubbing a “dream team” of hardline supporters of the state.

During Trump’s first term, he delivered significant diplomatic wins for Netanyahu, including recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights in 2019 and supporting the Abraham accords with Gulf states. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will undergo prostate removal surgery on Sunday after he was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection, his office said.

The 75-year-old leader underwent a test at Hadassah Hospital on Wednesday, where he was "diagnosed with a urinary tract infection resulting from a benign prostate enlargement," the prime minister's office said in a statement.

"As a result, the prime minister will undergo prostate removal surgery," it said.

In March, Netanyahu underwent a hernia surgery, while in July last year, doctors implanted a pacemaker after a medical scare.

Earlier this month, Netanyahu took the stand in his long-running trial for alleged corruption. This week, Israel's attorney general ordered police to open an investigation into Netanyahu's wife on suspicion of harassing political opponents and a witness in the corruption trial.
