CNN — The photo shows a large crowd of more than 200 people, crouching low amid the rubble of Jabalya in northern Gaza. Mostly men, many are almost naked, some are elderly, some visibly wounded. There’s at least one child among them.

They were detained and most ordered to strip by the Israeli military as they tried to flee their homes in Jabalya refugee camp, then held for hours outdoors in the cold, witnesses told CNN.

Their tired faces give a glimpse into their misery. The men at the front are anxiously staring straight ahead, while those toward the back stretch their necks to see what is going on.

The photo, taken in Jabalya on Friday, shows residents of the refugee camp who tried to leave the area after being forced by the Israeli military to evacuate amid its ongoing ground operation there.

The photo was first shared on an Israeli Telegram channel; while it is unclear who took it, several of the men in the picture told CNN Israeli soldiers were photographing them as they were being detained.

CNN has identified and spoken to five individuals seen in the photograph. One of them, Muhannad Khalaf, said he, his wife and their infant son were trying to escape the camp using a designated safe corridor when the Israeli military stopped them.

“We were all gathered in one place – men, women, children, and the elderly. This was at 11 a.m. After five hours, at 4 p.m., they asked the women and children to move forward and carry all (of our) bags and belongings,” he told CNN over the phone, adding the women and children were allowed to leave.

“Once they left, the men were instructed to remove their clothes and stay in just their underwear. We complied. We sat in the cold for several more hours and the weather was frigid. They were insulting us during that time, calling us names, laughing and taking pictures,” the 27-year old told CNN.

“Some individuals were selected for detention while others were released. Most of us ended up in Gaza City. The situation was terrifying and deeply saddening as we witnessed elderly men and injured individuals in distress, with no one showing them compassion or mercy.”

Jouri’s father Mohamad Abu Ward told CNN he was forced to strip to his underwear and was held for eight hours alongside Jouri. He said the girl was not required to remove her clothes but was unable to leave the area because she was alone with him. No food or water available to them. His wife and other children left the area earlier in the morning and were able to make it to Gaza City, he said.

The IDF encircled Jabalya and launched a new ground operation there more than three weeks ago, cutting off most supplies and forcing people to leave amid heavy fighting. The IDF said it saw signs of Hamas rebuilding in the area, despite a year of heavy bombardment and two previous ground operations which the IDF had claimed were successful.

JOHANNESBURG - International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola says an agreement to grant Ukrainian diplomats visa-free access to South Africa is yet to be signed.
But he said it’s only a matter of time before it's concluded.

Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber got The Presidency’s back up on Sunday when he announced he signed the waiver. The Presidency hit back and said that his announcement was premature since he had no authorisation from the president.

Lamola said the visa waiver for Ukrainian diplomats and official passport holders was work started by his predecessor Naledi Pandor.

On Monday, hosting Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Minister Andrii Sybiha in Pretoria, Lamola said the negotiations were ripe for conclusion.

"The agreement has not yet been signed. Once all the diplomatic processes have been concluded, the agreement will be signed and we will announce once all those processes have been followed.

In a statement on foreign policy issued by The Presidency, it said Lamola would sign the agreement on the visa waiver during Sybiha’s visit, putting itself at odds with home affairs minister Schreiber who posted to his social media that he had signed the agreement.

Meanwhile, Sybiha has requested visa-free access to South Africa for all Ukrainian citizens.
Currently, they have to apply for a visa to enter South Africa at the embassy in Warsaw, Poland.
"This would be a good step to facilitate people to people to contact with business ties, cultural exchange, and tourism."

Lamola said internal processes would now begin to discuss Ukraine’s second visa waiver request.

"Today, tears flow and words are written confusedly, painfully. I'm not sure what to say, what to share, and what not to share. There's a lot you don't know when you're the rock of my heart, my heroine, my mother. Maybe it will relieve you to know I've found comfort and you won't worry about me anymore."

Asaf Dagan, a former Israeli Air Force pilot and career officer, died by suicide on Wednesday at the age of 37. His passing has prompted his mother, Miri, to call for a military funeral in honor of his years of service. In his note to his mother, Dagan referenced his deep struggle with mental health following his military career, a sentiment shared by other families of soldiers facing similar challenges. He left 4 young kids at home to go and drive around in D9 destroying everything in his path.

Dagan served for nearly two decades in various capacities within the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). His service included the paratroopers, the air force, and Unit 8200, an elite intelligence unit. Although he was never formally diagnosed, Miri believes her son suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), an experience she says he could not fully express. “I noticed he was not himself anymore,” Miri told Ynet, recalling how he became increasingly isolated, sensitive to noise, and withdrawn from family and friends.

Asaf’s role in the air force eventually shifted to administrative duties at IDF Headquarters in Tel Aviv. According to Miri, he continued to participate in weekly reserve duty even after his active service ended, yet his condition worsened over time. Miri recounted her persistent efforts to seek help for Asaf: “I reached out to the air force and insisted that he should no longer be allowed to fly,” she explained. She claims that after he was grounded, he continued to struggle without the resources he needed.

When asked what should happen to the Palestinians currently living in the territory, one Israeli woman replied: "We should kill them. Every last one of them."

As the sun beats down on us near Kibbutz Be'eri in Israel, Avi looks out towards the place he really wants to live. It's only two miles away and it shimmers in the sunshine.
"It would be our privilege," he says, looking at his wife and three small children. Their plan is to move to Gaza.
He's not sure when it will be possible, but he's hoping it will be soon, once it is safe to move in.

The Israeli military has confirmed the death of Colonel Ahsan Daksa, a senior commander of the 401st Brigade, in northern Gaza during intense operations targeting Hamas militants. The incident occurred on Sunday, in the Jabalia area, where Israeli forces have been engaged in a broad assault aimed at weakening Hamas’s foothold in the region.

According to Israeli military spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, Colonel Daksa, aged 41, was killed when an explosive device struck him after he stepped outside his tank to assess the area. Two other officers, including a battalion commander, were also injured but sustained only minor injuries in the blast.

Hagari detailed the moment, stating, “They stepped outside to observe the area and were struck by an explosive.”

Daksa, a prominent member of the Druze community, was appointed commander of the 401st Brigade just four months ago. He was leading a critical offensive in Jabalia, a strategic zone for Israeli forces during their campaign in northern Gaza.

The Israeli Defence Minister, Yoav Gallant, praised Daksa’s bravery, saying he was killed “while fighting Hamas terrorists.” Daksa’s death has been described as one of the most significant losses for the Israeli military since the beginning of the Gaza war.

Israel expanded its targets in its war with Hezbollah militants in Lebanon on Monday, killing at least 21 people in an airstrike in the north, health officials said, while millions of Israelis took shelter from projectiles fired back across the border.

So far the main focus of Israel's military operations in Lebanon has been in the south, the Bekaa Valley in the east and the suburbs of Beirut.

The strike in the Christian-majority town of Aitou hit a house that had been rented to displaced families, the town's mayor Joseph Trad told Reuters. In addition to the deaths, eight people were injured, the Lebanese health ministry said.

Rescue workers at the site of the strike searched through piles of rubble on Monday, where burned vehicles and trees could be seen strewn across the ground.

At the Masnaa border crossing with Syria, couple Jalal Ferhat and Amal Tefayeli and their five children were among those offloading belongings from buses, hoping to leave Lebanon.

"There are strikes in our neighbourhood and destruction, and they (Israeli forces) hit near my house," said Ferhat, 40, from Baalbek, a Hezbollah stronghold in eastern Lebanon. "I have children, you can't just stay where you are."
In central Israel, residents rushed to shelters as sirens sounded. The military said three projectiles that had crossed from Lebanon had been intercepted. No injuries were reported.

CHICAGO - Multiple electronic billboards in a Chicago suburb were hacked, displaying hateful messages about Israel that many described as "antisemitic" on Wednesday.

The billboards are located off the Edens Spur Tollroad in Northbrook, just west of Waukegan Road.

One of the billboards read, "F*** ISRAEL," while another displayed the message, "DEATH TO ISRAEL." In both, a Palestinian flag was used as the background.

Referring to the resolution adopted in November 1947 by the United Nations General Assembly on the plan to partition Palestine into a Jewish state and an Arab state, Macron warned Israel’s prime minister not to forget that “his country was created by a UN decision”, a few days after the Israeli ambassador to France was summoned, and Israel repeatedly fired on UN peacekeepers.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should not forget his country was created as a result of a resolution adopted by the United Nations, French President Emmanuel Macron told cabinet on Tuesday, urging Israel to abide by UN decisions.

Tensions have increased between Netanyahu and Macron with the French leader last week insisting that stopping the export of weapons used by Israel in Gaza and Lebanon was the only way to stop the conflicts.

France has also repeatedly denounced Israeli fire against UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, who include a French contingent.

“Mr Netanyahu must not forget that his country was created by a decision of the UN,” Macron told the weekly French cabinet meeting, referring to the resolution adopted in November 1947 by the United Nations General Assembly on the plan to partition Palestine into a Jewish state and an Arab state.

An Israeli airstrike on a hospital compound in central Gaza early Monday sent flames ripping through tents housing displaced people, killing at least four and injuring dozens. Videos from the scene appeared to show one man being burned alive as bystanders could do little but watch.
The Israeli military said the target of the strike was a Hamas command center on the premises of al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, in the Deir al-Balah area. The site was filled with tents erected by families who had fled fighting elsewhere in the enclave. The majority of those injured from the overnight strike and ensuing fire - some seriously — were women and children, Gaza's Health Ministry said in a statement.

Israel is suspected of launching missiles overnight into Syria, striking close to a Russian air base believed to house weapons for Iran.

Up to 30 missiles were said to have targeted an area near to Khmeimim air base, near the coastal city of Latakia, triggering a series of huge explosions.

Video footage showed streaks of bright orange light in the night sky, as air defences attempted to intercept the missiles. A huge blaze could be seen for miles close to Khmeimim.

There also appeared to be secondary explosions, suggesting that weapons or munitions had been hit.

The strike could mean Israel, emboldened by its success in destroying Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, is stepping up its campaign against Iranian-linked assets in Syria, despite the risk of provoking Russia.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Russian and Syrian air defences attempted to intercept missiles for at least 40 minutes in Latakia.
