Education › Re: School Punishment: Share Your Experience With The General Staff Room by Trymeee: 10:23am On Aug 15, 2025 |
Had a fight in ss2 by standing up to a perfect who was a bully and slapped our mate 10times just to impress the ladies in the class. Note, we were the first set and I joined the school same ss2 first term.
Fight was crazy as the typical Ibadan boy in me tried breaking a chair leg to assault the stupid bully (Kunle). We were taking to the staff room by a teacher and we had TP teachers as well. I told the teacher in charge of discipline I won't be beaten for standing up to a bully. Matter reach principal side, my mum was invited, mum stood by me that she won't correct me for doing the right thing and it's the guy who assaulted the other classmates that should be behind bars. Mum said correcting me is confusing me and she won't grow a timid boy who will see abuse as a norm. The vp supported my mum but the fact I said it openly both in the staff room and general assembly stained the teachers ego. Las Las they twisted the case that I'm not been beaten for standing up to a bully, but for fighting in the school as there were other ways I could stand up to the bully guy. |

To be less career serious and ambitious. To just travel around the world and have fun.
Now I'm stuck with a career that keeps me wanting more as the end point is glory but offers little or no fun. Even travelling is not fun as it's based on courses in lieu of the career.
I love my career, but deep inside, I admire free birds who just travel the world and have fun at their own timing. |

Opmic: Poor church I guess.
The only ones making it in such churches are the ones the church turns to secretly whenever they are in need Because no church runs without money.
Churches that ask for money secretly from specific people always have specific people prospering. Churches that are big on giving like coza, you will always wonder where they are getting money in this harsh economy There is a dynamic, the church just doesn't ask. The unwritten rule is when you have you give secretly in the offering box which is at the back of the church auditorium. I also watched my uncle as a kid buy a ford bus for our branch then for collection of Sunday school children and he dropped the key, particulars and a letter inside inside the offering box whist the vehicle parked inside the church premises. Lots of prospering folks there. That we don't give openly or pay tithe openly doesn't mean they don't give. Only that it's willingly without been asked or nudged. It's an old time religion, you might not understand even when you try. |

It's either you can't comprehend or you're too quick to find fault. I said no contribution for church building or vehicles for pastor's. We have church buildings and even a university (Crawford). We don't pass offering basket around or any other type. You get now? |

He sponsored lots of folks in church and made sure our welfare was well enough. I remember what endeared me to the church then as a 7yrs old was the Miranda and every afternoon food after service. |

syntekelite: Your statements are so funny you are mistaking expressways and highways for gated communities there is no where in any part of the world where the police secure gated streets(unless private contractors) all they do is patrol centrally or park at strategic points and hope they are in time to save lives, in lagos for instance there is steady patrols by rrs and the police on most major roads that are hotspots thats all they can afford to do the rest is up to you to report to them hence the street associations and just so you know association isnt only about security they do a lot more than you think and work with the police, soldiers and lga's. You didn't either read the write-up well or I'm at fault. Dude never said gated. He meant his hometown kinda community. He even testified there is a police station in there a divisional headquarters to say the least. So it's not an estate or so. It's a community perhaps home town as he said the houses are in thousands. |

Politics › Re: Why Abike Dabiri-erewa Should Be Sacked Immediately by Trymeee: 2:15pm On Aug 05, 2025 |
shortgun: Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the current Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has consistently demonstrated ethnic bias and a lack of professional discretion, these traits disqualify her from holding such a sensitive and nationally symbolic office.
Her most recent actions singling out Igbos in connection with crimes committed abroad not only breach diplomatic decorum but appear to be a deliberate attempt to scapegoat an entire ethnic group, with potentially dangerous consequences for innocent Nigerians living overseas.
Dabiri-Erewa has made it a pattern to highlight crimes allegedly committed by Nigerians of Igbo descent, while deliberately ignoring or downplaying similar offenses committed by other Nigerians, particularly those from her ethnic group.
For instance, in 2023 she publicly named and shamed Igbos in Dubai involved in gang-related violence. She failed to provide full details, ignored due process and used inflammatory language that branded entire communities abroad with guilt by association. Yet, in the same Dubai Nigeria’s most notorious internet fraudster Ramon Abbas, also known as "Hushpuppi" was arrested by the FBI. Abike Dabiri-Erewa did not highlight his Yoruba ethnicity or use the incident to generalize about his ethnic group. Instead, she issued an official statement through the Commission "urging the public to refrain from stigmatizing Nigerians in the diaspora and emphasizing that the actions of a few should not tarnish the reputation of the majority".
"That statement described the arrest of Ramoni Igbalode (“Hushpuppi”) as no justification for generalizing about all Nigerians abroad or using the case as a basis for ethnic stereotyping".
When drug traffickers of other ethnic backgrounds were arrested in Saudi Arabia or when Nigerians were caught for internet fraud and other crimes in Malaysia, India or Indonesia Dabiri-Erewa either remained silent or issued vague, diplomatic statements, without drawing any attention to their ethnic identity.
Anyone with basic education should know that if Igbos make up the largest population of Nigerians in a particular country, it is only natural that they would also be the highest in all statistics including crime, success, employment..e.t.c in that country.
If Abike Dabiri is not a bigot, she should publish the names and ethnicities of all Nigerians in Saudi Arabian prisons or London prisons.
This pattern of selective outrage betrays a deep-seated bias and worsens ethnic divisions both at home and abroad.
As a public official, Abike Dabiri-Erewa holds a position that demands neutrality, tact and a commitment to national unity. She is expected to defend the interests of all Nigerians in the diaspora not inflame tribal tensions or exploit her office to score political points.
What she has done is not merely embarrassing it is dangerous. Her rhetoric will provoke hate, social stigma and even physical attacks against innocent Igbo Nigerians abroad many of whom are law-abiding professionals, students and entrepreneurs.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa has demonstrated that she is unfit to represent Nigerians in the diaspora especially when a significant portion of them can no longer trust her to advocate on their behalf without tribal bias.
She should resign or be removed from office immediately. Her continued presence only deepens Nigeria’s fragile divisions and reinforces the double standards that have hindered the nation’s unity and progress for decades I said this same thing when I saw the news on nairaland. It sounded so immature of a public office holder. |

Kobojunkie: So, you literally see your children as slaves then? Slaves? I will send a child to a primary school, secondary school, private uni, feed him, clothe him, spend 80percent of my money on him trying to make him into something while I deny myself alot of life pleasures. And you call that me seeing the child as a slave? I'm not even a father yet I'm a son to a mother who sold her car and paid alot of sacrifices to make that raw product into a finished good. It will be stupid of me not to cherish, take care and adore her when she's weak and I have the might to work. Let's face the fact, an average parents spend 80percent of their income on a ward, now imagine the gibberish of calling such retirement plan even economics call the reward of capital as profit. The western culture y'all are trying to inculcate don't even take care of children like Africans. Not from hearsay, but from a personal view, most Canadians and Americans don't owe Thier kids shit. They end up leaving home and sourcing for job at a young age. I suppose Africans should inculcate that too. |
