Back to ur topic. All what I listed are what a state governor should do, it's quite uñfórtuñate that u think that FG should provide; water, primary health care and general hospitals that are well equipped, most of the roads in a state are to be developed by state governors and LGA, same as schools, same as sanitation, parks are to be built by state and local governments. U absorb obi of all his failures as a governor for 8 solid years and u name him messiah because u think a president should bring; water for you, build housing for u, build all the schools, build all the health sectors, build all the streets and light them. Obi is a coIIosaI failure and the funny part is that most of u making noise on the internet don't even know what a president should do, what a state governor should do and what a Local governor chairperson should, just noise, that's why the failure becomes messiah overnight. Sanwo-Olu is building railway infrastructures today, how many did Obi build? Governors are building stadium, airports how many did Obi build? Governors are creating employments, how many did Obi build? Governors in the north provide tap water for their people, how many did Obi provide? See fire services provided by other governors, which one did Obi provide? Other governors are forming sanitation agencies to clean their state, which one did Obi do? Nothing, he did absolutely nothing worth qualifying him as a good leader but because ur pastors want their man in power, they white washed him and u all followed, u want ur tribesman in power, u pick him up, dust him and white wash him. WE WILL NEVER VOTE HIM FOR PRESIDENT. Gbam |

Benwallt: Lawyer and Human Rights activist, Prof Chidi Anselm Odinkalu has reacted after seeing that the total amount the former governor of Anambra state, Peter Gregory Obi spent as legal fee in his electoral expenses was N744,500,000.
According to PUNCH, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party spent a whooping sum N744,500,000 on litigation following his loss in the 2023 presidential election.
The information was disclosed by the Chairman of the fundraising team for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation, Aisha Yesufu at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.
Reacting to the report, Prof Chidi Anselm Odinkalu said it is surprising that the biggest single line item in the electoral expenses of Peter Obi is not media or polling agents but legal expenses.
He wrote on his page;
"Revealing - isn't it - that the biggest single line item in the electoral expenses of Peter Obi is not media or polling agents but Legal expenses? It's a consequence of the mess that lawyers & judges have made of Nigeria's electoral system".
https://www.premiumtimesng.com/opinion/642705-nigerias-courts-of-electoral-kleptocracy-by-chidi-anselm-odinkalu.html This is to show that Pa Peter Obi doesn't prioritise his needs. How can you spend what you need for campaign and publicity on litigation? This is a confirmation as we have rightly pointed out that Obi is a mediocre raised to the status of genius because excellence is not a requirement for success where he comes from but money |

nairalanda1: No, and i even think their salaries should be cut. Drastically cut. Spending money on cars, and the one billion, all that was wrong.
But even if we did that it won't cover subsidy costs.
Ditto the aso rock budget. Again it should be cut.
As for why tinubu cut subsides, it is what happens when 90 % of the income is going for debt service. Which would have risen to over 100% ifwe kept subsidy
Which means pretty soon IMF and World Bank would be our rulers. If you think tinubu or even obi and atiku or even Army was bad... The crux of the matter is that our leaders should live by example. There are way fuel subsidies can be structured so that they will still have a meaningful impact. What about subsidizing fuel for tractors? What about subsidizing school buses? What about subsidizing trailers? carry agricultural products? What about subsidizing fuel in rural communities to reduce rural-urban migration and promote farming? If the government can devise means of collecting tax and limiting tax evasion, they should equally devise means of making subsidies reach the targeted people. Don't defend the government that allocating billions for themselves but claiming Nigeria is poor |

Pythagoras001: Just Solve the corruption and productivity issues I think that's the only solution available to any government of Nigeria going forward, be it Tinubu, Atiku, or Obi. Corruption among government officials have to stop and those who are caught should be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent. With herdsmen killing, hunger will persist unless the government addresses the issue and settles the rift between farmers and herders. Alternatively, state police should be established to reduce the crime rate, especially kidnapping and banditry |

Kukutenla: You should ask your Emille o'Corn that daft question. You all have said subsidy removal and floating naira is good for the economy. Why then are you turning round to apportion blame to those who have nothing to do with the policies?
Is it mental cornfusion or corntusion?

Kukutenla: Op don't be a zombie. I can see what you're doing. Seems you did not sleep well which is why you woke up to look for someone to blame for sleeping hungry yesterday night. You follow shout emilokan, now you're being deprived of a meal o' corn 🌽 😉
First of all, by now, I expect anyone with a functioning brain in Nigeria to realise that there's nothing like subsidy cabal. That word was just created by political hacks to demonise subsidy and make it look like it is the reason Nigerians are suffering. Mind you, after the coinage of subsidy cabal, we've had humongous looting of our stock exchange yet no stock cabal, looting of the CBN yet no central bank cabal and lately looting of ministry of humanitarian yet no humanitarian cabal. Stop being a zombie by regurgitating stale propaganda words.
Secondly, like someone pointed out to you, the value of the money being bandied as gains of subsidy removal in terms of increase in FAAC allocations is actually gains of devaluing the naira. The subsidy removal gain has not reflected in our remittances. In fact, as at now, it seems there's less money because while the naira has weakened further by 100% since August last year, the allocation has not increased by same figure but instead remained the same. This means the states are effectively getting less than they were during Buhari's time.
So instead of blaming governors for a meal o' corn, you should ask what your god is doing with the dollar denominated returns which the states don't have access to.
And also stop telling lies. Where did you see governors mopping up dollars with their allocation? Any evidence for this or it's just your normal gibberish in defense of a meal o' corn 🌽 You are one of the empty brains roaming Nairaland day and night but I won't blame you because a product of miracle centers is not capable of rational thinking other than to abuse and make irrelevant comments The astronomical inflation is the consequence of subsidy removal, how come the government didn't factor the weak in currency that action would cause? UptownVibes: My question is ,since the subsidy was removed where is the money going to? Because security became worst, economy zero, infrastructure nothing, unemployment on the rise. What is Tinubu doing exactly? Anyways, maybe its the punishment for Nigerians not voting for him..
So its left for Nigerians to stand up ,and let him know that Nigeria doesn't belong to him and his benefactors only. Thank you sir, where is the high allocation going to the states? Some States have not been able to pay the previous minimum wage but you see their people out of tribal sentiment can't question their governors but would heap all blame on the president as if Nigeria is not a federation skj1377: Well I hope president Tinubu is getting all this negative feedback. He has been mislead. I wonder how he can find his way back What I think the president needs to do is to strengthen EFCC and reform the judiciary for speedy court judgment. An allocation monitoring team to trace state allocation should be set up and any indicted governor file should be pushed to the court. While doing that government should sponsor an executive bill to remove immunity for all government elected officials |

Creamcrest: no money for subsidy for the masses but there is money to fund lavish livestyles of elected officials.
Nigeria is not broke to pay subsidies we only have wasteful leaders. The painful part is its consequence on the forex as our governors use the excess money to buy up the dollar thereby increasing the value of the dollar against the naira |

cjrane: In this day and age when you can contact people in America via WhatsApp, they are bringing back this policy that stopped dollar remittances into Nigeria. They have just opened business again for those who would ask you to give them the dollars in America and then they will transfer the agreed naira equivalent to your loved ones in Nigeria.
Ultimately, Nigeria loses on the dollars her people would have sent into Nigerian banks. The dollars remain abroad while the people in Nigeria who need dollars to fund their accounts abroad are merely asked to pay naira into an account in Nigeria and they will credit your account in China! So the dollars never enter Nigeria. You are missing the point |
Politics › What Is The Sense In Removing Fuel Subsidy by Ttalk(op): 5:52am On Feb 09, 2024 |
What is the sense in removing fuel subsidies when you only redirect money from the subsidy cabal to be deposited into the pocket of the political cabal.
Today, allocation to state governments has increased by 40% yet there's no 40% increase in deliverables to the people of the states.
Tell me, which of the states in Nigeria has increased its infrastructure by 40% including salary to its workers What we see today is a similar expenditure just before the subsidy removal.
You wonder why there's an increase in the demand for the dollar and you need to look the way of our governors who after collecting monthly allocation deduct state salary and use the remaining balance to mop up dollars in circulation. |

Good for the economy.
A government that is bold enough to remove subsidies should not be afraid of any backslash that may arise from any measure to save the naira.
Let all remittances be converted to the naira equivalent so the government can have enough dollars for people doing genuine business in need of dollars.
All domiciliary accounts with idle dollars should be taxed. |
