See how the census broke down different tribes ut these days one man from Oshogbo will claim omo lagosian and one woman from offa will claim omo lagosian. And all of them will claim to be yoruba Keep shut Awori and Egun in the present day of Apapa, Amowo, Ojo, Alimosho,Badagry are grouped together with the Egun in the statistics. Because you see a separate 9% of Awori doesn't mean there are no others |

Had it been that you have read a little bit of history you would have known that every major ethnic groups in Nigeria has a documented history of their own, Both orally and written. GeneralOuki: This is why you people should read a book and stop regurgitating ignorannt talk points you see online.
By 1891 the Brits were yet to conquer the Igbo, and by the time they finally encountered and fought the Igbos for more than 14 years, the British had nothing but admiration for the Igbo people, they marveled at their battle tactics, strategy and indomitable spirit and resilience. The feats the Igbos accomplished against the British were not something a barbarians who live on treetops and walk naked could have accomplished. Spare me story by moonlight, tell are you sure say na normal eye you take talk say the British never engage in slave trade in the areas that are latter named Nigeria ? Let's pick the discussion one after the other |

GeneralOuki: You don't even know the meaning of Lagos. Lagos was named by the Europeans, Portuguese to be precise and it means "Lakes". Eko on the other hand is a Benin word. Long before the arrival of the British, the Oba of Benin was the one who chose the oba of Lagos. Do you know why it is like that? I won't engage half baked. It is not by force to dabble into subject you know nothing about. People that entered ,Lagos 2019 are now telling us the story of Lagos |
Politics › Re: The Results Of The 1891 Census Of Lagos Indigenes by Ttalk: 1:41pm On Oct 23, 2025 |
GeneralOuki: Nonsense. The British moved in the savannah just as well as they did in the hinterland if the east, especially in the coastal areas where they berthed and colonised earlier than most places, e.g Opobo kingdom and Lagos. The British directly and indirectly operated the Yoruba kingdom and Hausa/Fulani kingdoms after they conquered them . They deposed Ọbá kosoko and installed their stooge Akitoye as a way to gain total control of Lagos. The Brits never engaged in slavery in Nigeria, they abolished it, and they used the accusations of slavery to depose the monarchies that didn't kowtow to them.
And those Hausas and Nupe you see on that census were mostly slaves owned by Yoruba chiefs, very few of them were free people. I think it is effortless trying to correct people that chose to be ignorant. Look at this one saying British never engage in slave trade in Nigeria? I think this is the height of delusion. |

Where did they learn the caste system from? Where did your people learn your culture from? Religion?
I understand the huts thing. You guys use that statement to console yourself for the fact that the average Igbo community was speaking good English, living in good colonial-style houses, praying the rosary, and even attending universities before the others did.
The only people who superseded them were the Ijaws and Efik/Ibibio. You listen too much to the message of Reno Omokri. Up till today, there are places in the north that still go about unclothed.
The North African Tuaregs conquered Northern Nigeria before the Britons did. And what they did in Northern Nigeria was that they stripped them of their culture (religion was part of their culture) and gave them a new religion, which they now claim to be their culture. And that was in the early 1800s. You think when the North Africans conquered them, they taught them how to build skyscrapers? The Tauregs only taught them (enforced on them) the clothing of the desert people (and their religion) thereof.
And just so that you get it right: the Briton saw ALL who accepted the Christian faith as equals. That was a part you never knew. The church never discriminated between bound or free, rich or poor, and the Britons were under the Anglican church. You thought the same way Adamu was treated is the same Chukwudi was? Seriously I should have known that I was chatting with people who believe Buhari died and was changed to El Jibrin of Sudan At the bolded suggest you didn't study history as a subject otherwise won't claim the British interact with the Igbo first when they landed in the Niger area The 1st Missionary school, first missionary cemetery, first story building, first this and first that can only be found in my state. Nwaikpe:

Ok. Oga. Thank you, sir.
But sha, the meaning of Lagos, which is in Nigeria, is the translation of the word "lagoon" in Portuguese.
It doesn't mean any people. It simply means a place where the Portuguese traded business with West Africa.
No people existed there. You are wrong Lagos is named after a port town in Portugal. Every Lagosian who attended University in Lagos had to pass a course in History of Lagos, besides, our fathers are very learned and have records of events that predates Nigeria, You can inbox me if you are so keen to know more about Lagos. I've been to riverine areas of Bayelsa and Rivers state and their fishing trap is similar to what we have, but we still retail the superior design and the originality is there. Nwaikpe: Oh yes,
I guess you purposely ignored the timeline of that census and decided to map that question to our present-day society.
Even cosmopolitan London and New York at that time were 99% Caucasian, 99.9% Christian, and 99.9% English. The 1%, or 0.01%, were basically traders, and those were at the fringes of the port areas.
In 1891, communities were totally homogenous. The only differences in these communities were the Caucasian colonial masters. Apart from that, if a Yoruba man travelled to Kano, I know what an Uthman Danfodiyo would do. If a Hausa man travelled to Calabar, I know what the pot of soup would have been made of.
Tell the truth, there was no one there in Lagos. No Yoruba community is ever known to be riverine only in Ondo. No Yoruba community ever thrived or built their communities near the riverines. What's the meaning of this nonsense. I Lagosian and our history revolves around water, the culture, food and story has so much connection with water. How dare you tell the story of the people you are not part of, this insult is becoming nauseating and if you are given appropriate response now that's when mod will active ban. MatrixCircle: Because they was no Nigeria then, the South East was a country of its own then known as Republic of Biafra with strong economy and trade and no need to come to Lagos, until Nigeria was later created and that Biafran buoyant economy was destroyed out of envy, their seaport was destroyed to favour Lagos. So they moved to Lagos to use the seaport to import and export their goods, and so doing there developed Lagos to what it is today. Which port were they using before then? Again the Eastern region was never a region pre amalgamation and it was never called Biafria. |

How then can Tinubu win the South without the Obidients? Or has he automatically won the Obidients to his side by undemocratically denying Obi a platform to contest? If so, that is not an alliance, it is conquest. Southern electorate are different from the Obidients, in 2023 a lot of Southerners including Youruba vote for Obi because of so many factors. Those people will still exercise their franchise for whoever pleases them. That's a childish remark, Lagos state doesn't discriminate in his town planning exercise. Since IPOB has been declared terrorist organization, it will be impossible for any government to release MNK the leader of IPOB.
He should face his trial and accept his fate after convicted and see if future president will grant him presidential pardon.
You cant execute leaders of BH and decides to pardon other terrorist leader without trial.
That will amount to double standard |

There is no any deliberate attempt to undermined other ports in Nigeria as some Igbo want us to believe.
Like I posted earlier there is unified levy across all ports charge by the FG.
The importer decides which of the port to use and those factors are purely economic decision

owobokiri: The Problem is that IT COSTS MORE TO CLEAR YOUR GOODS in other ports outside Lagos.
This is the main problem since the end of the war. It costs more to clear in Calabar or Onne. I mean tye freight charges.
Deu to federal government levies and charges, it is cheaper for importers to land their goods in Lagos.
These are inbuilt federal government maritime policies post civil war that were dubiously deployed to tighten the grip on the Eastern ports. Unfortunately, those anti business policies have continued to add to the costs of doing business in these areas till these days..
If you have shipped from China, you would have noticed that most foreign shippers will be pratically begging you to use Lagos ports. This is because the federal government has used administrative measures to make it easier and cheaper for these ships to land in Lagos..
I am not deluded. I am a realistic person.. I don't think that this very government that is alarmingly pro Lagos/Southwest will be the one to free eastern ports. That will happen someday but certainly not under the the administration of the most tribal president in Nigerias history.. So you guys should watch how you beleive whatever that was written up there... Stop lying, Federal government doesn't charge different cost in different ports in Nigeria. Any extra cost incurred can only be attribute to local charges which has nothing to do with the unified charges by FG across all the ports in Nigeria. You guys have been misrepresenting information regarding why other ports are not being patronized like the ones in Lagos
