abunafiu: For the first time since I started using trojans, i decided to test how long it will last. I plugged in the following from 5pm yesterday and I plan to off them by 6am this morning.Nice one |
tundebabzy: Cool. Am I right that floodeds last longer than AGMs?I meant do floodeds have longer discharge time? We get power for an average of six hours daily so longer discharge time is desirable for me pending when I add solar panels to the setup. |
richmon74: People make it look like this batteries open with acid. No. They are completely seald. There are no such fumes as you think. It's all populated by people who do not use flooded battery. except you get very close to it when you are equalizing it you will never notice anything. I'm not saying this because I sale Trojan flooded batteries but it is the truth. You can keep it anyway as long as you have cross ventilation. mine stays in the corridor inside my apartment. Totalgreen's own stays in a lobby just by his bedroom door inside the house.Cool. Am I right that floodeds last longer than AGMs? |
nastydamus: Please which website did you place the order on?konga.com |
I ordered a 1000w tripp lite modified sine wave. I downgraded to the modified Sine wave after removing freezer from my load calculations. The tripp lite is also a 12V system and is to carry max load of 488W. I think it will reach Katsina before next week runs out. For batteries, I'm still thinking of getting Trojan. From spec sheets, it seems they last longer than AGM batteries. However, the thought of fumes is a real turn off. |
freshkunzy: come guys its ok oo..i jst made ma own contribution based on ma xperience with ma murano n by d way i have other suv so i knw wat it means to drive a car wit class biko..Sorry, I don't mean to be rude but driving an SUV doesn't mean you are driving a car with class. |
Im going to mention the name after I have moved my valuables form the website. Its irresponsible to store user passwords on plaintext or use a software that does. in fact, if you are not using bcrypt or pkdf to hash your user passwords, na WA for you |
Yes I'm talking of the control panel login. Maybe i don't know much about how shared hosting works but why do you need a separate password anyway? spikes C: Definitely not cpanel but main account login.em, The login from where databases can be wiped, new ftp users created, ftp passwords changed is not main enough? |
The web host I use does not hash passwords. I raised a ticket about this but the clueless guy on the other end replied, "only you has access to your account". If you're wondering how I know they store passwords in plain text, its because they can produce my exact password. I have the mind to mention their name. What would you do? |
Does anyone know any website that can be used for ican preparation with quizzes? Already I know of ican.mumu.com.ng |
ToyinDipo: To all the good security concious programmers, please provide tips to protect a website from hackers.Simple, learn about how to hack a website |
....only shows how far the US will go to protect its income. Apple pays about 35% of its US income to the US government. No sane government will fold its arms and watch. Look, Apple worked (innovated if you like) to become America's sweet heart and a case study for the business world.......it didn't reach where it is now on a platter of US government gold. Thats all I'm saying. Support your own is right and that will help our nation become great but the producers should also make sure they can at least produce up to the standard of the substitutes. |
Hi guys, Please pardon me if this is the wrong section for this post. Please visit this site - ican.mumu.com.ng and please give honest reviews here. Its a quiz and flash card site which throws random questions from a pool of questions. Its still in Alpha and things might suddenly break (though i doubt it). Don't be afraid of any "Pay Me" buttons you meet, they're are not connected to any payment gateway. Thanks |
naija_swag: If only you know the meaning of protectionism. Anything can be used as a cover. Ask they Chinese they know better, that's why the sealed their economy to devise their own strategy and have succeeded and subsequently overtaken everyone. I am talking deep economics here not the use of phones.Dude, protectionism has to do with restriction of trade through things like export subsidies, tariffs, import quotas, etc. USA doesn't practice protectionism (at least for its telecommunication equipment industry) or else how can you explain that apart from the Moto X that is launching today, no phone is manufactured on US soil. The thing about business is that if your product is superior, you will get paid. Businesses will always consider what their ROI will be before spending their money. Truth is web advertising has gone beyond displaying ad banners on a web page and I want to believe nairaland knows that. If they do, then it's only a matter of time before publishers start flocking to their site. |
naija_swag: The US in the last two years decided not to support blackberry so that Apple could survive. It was until iphone 4 that apple made sensational phones better than others. Consequently, blackberry almost closed shop from over $200m to $9m annual profit. Not until last year when major carriers in the US decided to carry z10 after they quit previously. My point is that we need to support our own. While I agree with your view, I just have to point out that these statements are false. The first generation iPhone aka 'Jesus Phone' had hundreds of people queuing outside stores on its launch day. IPhone has been a record breaker right from its first launch. Meanwhile, blackberry 's downward spiral isn't because of any 'government support' but because they not only stopped innovating but also refused to adopt change until iOS and android became better than blackberry at their best offering. There has been no time that there was no US carrier selling blackberries. Infact, iphones were sold exclusively by AT&T. |
jidez007: Almost there. But i only work freelance Ako yin to po ju |
Consider things like the frameworks maturity, the framework's ecosystem, available documentation and language features in relation to the project's features. You will be very productive in any framework that scores high on all of these. That said, since it seems like you may not have ever used django, I'll tell you about it. Django is a very mature framework with not only a very large community but also a helpful non hostile community. Its documentation is excellent and is built to help you to code with the DRY principle. Its very powerful because its pure python and that gives you a hint of how expansive its ecosystem is. In Nigeria, because everything is PHP, you won't be able to get a local shared web host though. |
A-ZeD:The truth is good ORMs are created by people who are very knowledgeable in SQL and therefore mostly create efficient queries. ORM is a convenience not an evil. SQL ignorance is an evil and a pain. Anyway, this shouldn't be a thing for debate. Each organization has its "way of life" and those wanting to join it should be willing to join its culture. |
Web Contractor: Stay away from Windows 8.Its the programmers nightmare. There's nothing unique about this OS aside from its name.I join to digress..... Dude, please give specifics and your expression |
Seun: elvis10ten: at one point, I decided to do this, but to my dismay, the Dell XPS l502x was no longer in stock with the retailer I hoped to buy it from, though it was still listed on their website. So we will get the awesome desktops!Meanwhile, does your team develop on windows? I've avoided touching anything resembling windows 8 (apart from the phones) because their secure boot thingy makes it difficult to install any other distri |
Seun: I'm now considering the Dell XPS One 27 Inch All-In-One Desktop. This dear sir makes me drool but what's the fuss about too heavy to move to another table for pair programming? Isn't it easier to move only a chair to another table than to move chair and notebook to another table? If i have issues with my code and want a quick review or need extra eyes, I'll just call over my buddy to my table. |
netghost: its a little bit funny how nobody recommeded one of the apple laptops ... if they are not coding in one of the microsoft languages then i recommend going with macpro especially if a lot of design work will be done.I guess the reason why apple has not been mentioned is because of the cost. |
Im late to the party but personally I've been dreaming of the Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 as my next purchase though 5400RPM is kinda slow for its 1TB HDD. Its screen is 15" and it has backlit keyboard (backlit keyboard not negotiable for me). They added a number pad to the keyboard which will definitely make some keys smaller than usual but that's not mostly a problem for me cos I usually use an external keyboard and wireless mouse. lordZOUGA: i do not know about other developers but I do not swear by my big screen laptop. 15inch is okay. 17inch just pushes the limit of the definition of portability. lugging around a 17inch screen will not feel portable at all. I am more interested in the display quality.I do swear by big screens. I as much as possible connect my laptop to a 19" monitor. However, I will never be caught carrying around a 17" laptop or 14" and below. To me, 17" is not portable. |
spikes C: Oh dude, you're just fckedGoogle translate is not free so it could cause friction with your client because they charge according to use. Manually translating your site then copy pasting into your html is just not right. Apart from the sheer work involved, anytime there is even just the tiniest change, you would have to do the whole process all over again leaving open doors for bugs. Dude, the best option is to find a decent framework in your favorite programming language that has built in support for internalization and use it to rebuild your site. |
I've investigate lisp and contrary to what you may think, it will never die. /quote] I'm not sure I implied that LISP was on its way to extinction. LISP is the second high level language after FORTRAN and FORTRAN is not dead. The numerous LISP dialects of which clojure (used by akamai, citigroup, Twitter's Backtype, etc)is one shows that LISP is very alive but simply not a popular language. Infact, most of us learnt about LISP because of Paul Graham's essay right? |
I code in LISP for fun and for some strange reason, I never found the parenthesis brain twisting. I guess the reason for few lispers (everywhere not just Nigeria) is the relatively small and dwindling community; too many people aren't talking about LISP so too many people aren't bothered about LISP. When people talk of LISP its usually about robotics and AI and thats boring talk for a whole lot of programmers. And then the parentheses is an absolute turn off for many. I personally have a goal to build a self navigating rc with LISP doing the AI. |
pc guru: Thanks i looked it up, it seems promising cuz am looking beyond the Web especially (PHP hacky like language), am still trying to ascertain it's application like for instance PHP=CGI/CLI Python=Everywhere, is it mostly Backend/Web or anywhere.+1 |
Guys please don't continue the flame war already......we've heard all about it before |
Hi guys, Can anyone share his (or her) experience with using Redis? I'm presently loving it and about to start tinkering with it for a personal project I want to rewrite and publish. The app requires constant retrieval of random data so the fact that I can just put my whole database in memory and use an inbuilt command to retrieve as much random data as I want makes me drool plus its blazing fast. |
I posted a thread asking NLanders to review a web app I built but I've discovered the thread has been deleted. Does it mean such requests are considered spam on NL? |
Oh yeah. Most of the questions will be repeated cos there are presently just about 14 questions in the database. I'll be adding some more this morning before I go to church though. Later on I'll add a rating system and then the ability to share scores on facebook. Thanks for trying out the site and thanks for the review. I'm glad that you liked the app. |
