PoliticsHow Returned $311m Abacha Loot ‘ll Be Spent — Presidency by Tunex252(op): 1:10pm On May 06, 2020
THE Presidency on Tuesday said that returned $311 which was part of the money allegedly stolen by the late former Head of State, Gen. Sanni Abacha has been allocated for infrastructure development in the country.
The Presidency also said that part of the returned loot in 2019 was being used for grain grants and free school feeding programs, adding that without the returned Abacha funds, the fight against Covid-19 would be even tougher.
The Presidency specifically said that the recently returned finds have already been allocated for vital and decades-overdue infrastructure development like the second Niger Bridge, the Lagos-Ibadan and Abuja-Kaduna-Kano expressways and in the Mambilla Power Project.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu in Abuja.
The statement titled, “The return of the Abacha stole millions from the United States and Jersey ” noted that the latest returned the money and the ones before it was a testament to the growing and deepening relationship between the government of Nigeria and the government of the United States.
It read in part,” On Monday, May 4, 2020, some $311 million US Dollars – stolen from the citizens of Nigeria during the Abacha regime – were safely returned to our country from the United States.
These funds have already been allocated, and will be used in full, for vital and decades-overdue infrastructure development: The second Niger Bridge, the Lagos-Ibadan and Abuja-Kaduna-Kano expressways – creating tens of thousands of Nigerian construction jobs and local skills, which can then be useful in future projects.
“Part of the funds will also be invested in the Mambilla Power Project which, when completed, will provide electricity to some three million homes – over ten million citizens – in our country.

” The receipt of these stolen monies – and the hundreds of millions more that have already been returned from the United Kingdom and Switzerland – are an opportunity for the development of our nation, made far harder for those decades the country was robbed of these funds.
“Indeed, previous monies returned last year from Switzerland – some $320 million US dollars – are already being used for the government’s free school feeding scheme, a stipend for millions of disadvantaged citizens, and grain grants for those in severe food hardship.”
Continuing, the Presidency said, “Without these funds, the fight against Covid-19 would be even tougher.
“The latest return is a testament to the growing and deepening relationship between the government of Nigeria and the government of the United States.
“Without cooperation both from the UK Government, the US Executive branch and US Congress, we would not have achieved the return of these funds at all.”
The Presidency said that for years many countries deemed successive Nigerian administrations as too corrupt, too venal and too likely to squander and re-steal the stolen monies – so they did not return the funds.
It, however, said,” Today, US, UK and other jurisdictions have found the partnership with the nation of Nigeria they can finally trust.
” The Buhari Administration is committed to – and is enacting – total and zero tolerance to corruption in politics and public administration.
“The days when the government was seen and used by the political class as their personal ATM to empty are over.
“The time of better governance and clean hands in the affairs of state is here to stay.”

HealthCOVID-19: FG Pledges More Support To Kano Govt. by Tunex252(op): 11:59am On May 05, 2020
The Federal Government has commended the Kano State Government over its efforts to stem further spread of coronavirus (COVUD-19) pandemic in the state.

Mrs. Hadiza Namadi, the Public Relations Officer, Kano State Ministry of Health, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday in Kano.

Nanadi said that Dr. Nasiru Gwarzo, the Team Leader, Presidential Taskforce (PTF) on COVID-19, made the commendation during an interface with the Kano State team on COVID-19.

Gwarzo was quoted as commending the effort of the state government and assured that the Federal Government would continue to support the state in the fight against the pandemic.

The statement also quoted Dr. Tijjani Hussain, the State Coordinator Technical Response Team, as saying that the state government had adopted proactive measures to contain the pandemic.

“The state established isolation centers, provided equipment and services to curtail the pandemic,”Hussain said.

According to the statement, representatives of the six subcommittees of the state’s Taskforce also briefed the PTF on their mandates, activities, and challenges in the campaign against the pandemic.

The subcommittees include surveillance; logistics, laboratory, risk communication, and case management, among others.

On his part, Hisham Imamudeen, the Acting Co-Chairman of the committee, said the state government had procured large quantities of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), face masks, drugs, and consumables.

He explained that PPE and other consumables were distributed to the 10 designated centres for case treatment, and to protect health personnel against infection of the disease.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had deployed the Presidential Taskforce Team (PTF) on COVID-19, under the leadership of Dr. Nasiru Gwarzo, to support the state in the fight against the pandemic.

Technology MarketRe: PS5 Design Has A Wild 'taco' Shape With Removable Fan Cover by Tunex252(op): 11:48am On May 05, 2020
This concept also imagines also redesigned PSVR gear, including both the headset and controllers. It's rumored that we'll get a new generation of Sony's virtual reality system along with the PS5, hence its appearance here.

PS5 concept(Image credit: VRPlayer.fr)
If you're not into the mainly white design, VR4Player offers an all-black and Spider-Man red option too. Sony has done game-specific reskins of its consoles in the past, and since we're eagerly awaiting another Spider-Man game on the next generation PS5, this would likely be a popular option.

We're hoping to finally hear more from Sony, and actually see the PS5 in the flesh, in an event this month. We'll be getting our first look at Xbox Series X games during a special livestream event on May 7. Both consoles are then expected to debut in November this year, bringing gamers enhancements like speedy loading times, 8K support and ray-tracing.

This PS5 design is the weirdest one we've seen
While we wait for Sony to show us what the PS5 console looks like, fans have wasted no time providing their own suggestions with unique concepts. While the design we're showing you here is not likely to be that accurate to the final product, it's certainly the most imaginative take we've seen so far.

The design is from the YouTube account of the French PlayStation enthusiasts at VRPlayer (via Notebookcheck), who made the sleek-looking trailer you can watch below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oUDxQFbLgY
The most noticeable difference between this design and the others we've seen is no doubt the overall shape. While most PS5 concepts stick to something resembling a rectangle, this one has carved Sony's new console into the shape of an archway keystone — or in less grandiose language, a 'taco', as one Reddit comment puts it.

PS5 concept(Image credit: VRPlayer.fr)
Using a white design with black accents and blue LED lighting (like the DualSense controller we've seen already), this design also has the controller symbols etched into the casing.

Also unfamiliar is the removable cooling lid. By removing the central panel of this imagined PS5, you reveal the fan — lit with more blue LEDs. What purpose this serves is unclear, but the inclusion of the lighting seems to indicate that the designer intends for the fan to be seen.

TravelSix Killed As Plane Carrying Medical Supplies Crashes In Somalia by Tunex252(op): 9:57am On May 05, 2020
Six people, including two pilots, were killed when a plane carrying medical supplies crashed in south-western Somalia on Monday, authorities said.
“The cause of the accident is not yet known,” government spokesman Ismael Mukhtar Omar told DPA.
The plane, which was carrying medical supplies needed in the fight against the coronavirus, took off from Baidoa airport in the Bay region.
It crashed shortly after, near the town of Bardaale where it was meant to land, Omar said.

Gilbert Kibe, director-general of the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, confirmed to DPA that the plane belonged to Kenya’s African Express Airways but said they had not had official reports about the casualties or cause of the accident.
Speculation in local media, however, was that the crash was caused by a missile from Ethiopian troops stationed in the area.
Ethiopian authorities were not available for comment.
Ethiopian, Somalian, and African Union forces operating in the area because of the threat posed by the Islamist militant group al-Shabaab.
The group, which is affiliated with the international al-Qaeda terrorist network, wants to establish an Islamist state in Somalia.
It repeatedly attacks security forces and civilians.
Although based in Somalia, it also regularly carries out attacks in neighbouring Kenya.
Islamic State has also gained an increasing foothold in the Horn of Africa.

EducationASUU Queries FG Over Request Of BVN by Tunex252(op): 10:24am On May 02, 2020
Academic Staff Union of Universities has said a request by the Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris that lecturers who have been denied their salaries should submit their Biometric Verification Number (BVN) to effect the payment was illegal.
This was disclosed by the Chairman, ASUU, University of Ibadan Professor Ayo Akinwole. ASUU said that it remained committed to the reasons it is currently on strike which are the revitalisation of public varsities through adequate funding, renegotiation of her agreements with government, full implementation of outstanding agreements and payment of academic earned allowances from 2012 till date, and ensure that visitation panels are constituted to visit the universities.
The Union stated that it is not on strike because of IPPIS but because of the lamentable infrastructure, unfulfilled agreements and demeaning welfare system of Nigerian intellectual community.
President Muhammadu Buhari had directed that all lecturers being owed February and March salaries be paid without attaching any condition to it.
However, ASUU stated that the office of the AGF disregarded the order of President Muhammadu Buhari to pay all striking lecturers by 24 April, 2020 by trying to work with the IPPIS officers in order to allegedly obtain fraudulent kickbacks and railroad members into the illegal platform.
In a statement entitled “This Mountain Shall be Removed”, ASUU maintained that lecturers in public universities have always been paid through Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from Abuja adding that the details of payment of lecturers are with the federal government.
According to Professor Akinwole demanding for BVN for payment is an orchestrated fraudulent path which the office of the Accountant General is noted for.

Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commissioned a 118- bed new Isolation Centre at Gbagada General Hospital.

He said the facility was revamped over the past two months to accommodate patients who have contracted COVID-19. Governor Sanwo-Olu also stated that the facility has all the expectations of clinical care.

Naija news recalled that the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, said on Thursday during the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 briefing in Abuja that there was a shortage of bed spaces in Lagos, which has more than 50 percent of the total COVID-19 cases reported in the country.

meanwhile, Nigeria’s Health Minister, Osagie Ehanire, has also reinforced the views of Dr. Ihekweazu, by begging Nigerians to give-out their building to be used as isolation centers for COVID-19 patients.

CrimeWoman Accuses Hospital Of Stealing Her Baby During Delivery by Tunex252(op): 7:27am On Apr 29, 2020
…She gave birth to one baby, not twins – Hospital
…Family out to destroy the hospital – Management

A woman, Mrs Faith Obinna, who claimed to have been delivered of a set of twins at St. Raphael Hospital, in Ikorodu area of Lagos has alleged that one of the babies was stolen in the process of delivery.
Obinna explained that before delivery, she carried out an Ultrasound scan in the hospital, three consecutive times, where it was revealed she was pregnant with twins.
However, on the day of delivery, she stated that she was sedated against her volition, only to be presented with a baby, when she regained consciousness, from the caesarian session.
Recounting what transpired on the day of delivery, Obinna, said “I delivered through a caesarean session on March 6, 2020, at Saint Raphael hospital. Before the caesarean session, I had done three scans in the same hospital which confirmed I was pregnant with twins.
“After I did the first scan, the doctor asked me to do another, to check the sex of the babies which I did at the same hospital. It was confirmed that one of the babies is a boy while the other’s sex wasn’t showing because of the position.
“I listened to their heartbeats, the last scan was done a week before I delivered, on the instruction of the doctor, who confirmed that the babies were fine. He gave me his phone number and told me to call him whenever I wanted to come to the hospital to deliver.
Delivery Day
“On the delivery day, we were three women who went through the caesarean session, but I was the only one they sedated, even when I told the doctor not to put me to sleep. They did that so that I won’t know when they would take my baby. By the time they brought the two babies out, I was still partially conscious because of the injection”.
“My husband was in front of the theatre waiting, but they chased him away to bring baby things. Later, they called him inside and showed him only one baby. When he asked for the second one, the doctors were busy telling stories when I regained consciousness.
Dr. Otutuoja said it was only one baby they found. But I know I was pregnant with two babies because I watched my babies on the scan monitor showing their different heartbeats. The sound first baby heartbeat was more pronounced than the second baby so also is their weight.
Continuing, the woman said, “ When I complained, the hospital said it was scan error which I know it is not. When I asked for my hospital file, they refused to give it to me. Rather, they told us to negotiate with them. I am not interested, all I want is for them to give me my baby.
Compliant to Police
We went to different police stations to report the case, but because of the lock-down, we haven’t been able to pursue the matter.
The issue is eating me up and I can’t keep calm again.
I need urgent help, I have no power of my own which is why I am calling on the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, and relevant authorities to intervene in this matter and help me rescue my baby.
Right now, they are threatening us that we are broadcasting the news and that when the case dies down they will deal with us”.
Hospital’s reaction
Denying the allegation, Doctor Uzoma Otutuoja, a Consultant Gynaecologist, explained that “First of all, it is not my hospital, it is a Catholic hospital, I am a consultant gynaecologist with the hospital, Faith Obinna is my patient, I gave her my phone number, if I wanted to steal her baby I won’t give her my number.
The true situation of things is that in the month of November 2019, I asked her to go for a scan which she did in the hospital with one of our male staff, the scan showed two foetuses.
In January, she did another scan with a female staff that showed it was a single foetus. While the scan was ongoing, Faith, said the previous scan revealed it was two babies so the male staff who conducted the first scan was invited to take a look and he said he saw two fetuses while the former argued that it was one foetus. So the female staff asked him to write the report of the scan which she signed without informing any of the doctors.
Unfortunately, when she did the third scan, the male staff’s initial claim of two foetuses was confirmed. Clinically Faith has a big belly.
The hospital worked based on the scan report, we prepared for the delivery of two babies. On the day of the caesarean session, we had seven doctors in the hospital including myself, and the CMD who is an orthopaedic surgeon. She was delivered to one baby and immediately we brought her husband into the theatre to see for himself while she was still open. He wasn’t surprised because the first scan she did elsewhere confirmed one.
A few days afterwards, Faith and her husband dragged the hospital’s management to Force headquarters annexe, Alagbon , where the case is presently being investigated. They have also served a court notification order demanding for N250 million.
“We never offer them money, the management of the hospital only told them not to pay the balance of the bill since they claimed they spent more money buying double baby items.
Unfortunately, they have continued to threaten the hospital and management.
Reacting to the allegation, Rev. Father Joe Ben, said, “I don’t know why they are bent on dragging the hospital down because of human error. The CMD of the hospital, an orthopaedic surgeon is a knight of the Catholic church”
