HealthCoronavirus Is Snatching Sleep From Americans, And Causing “pandemic Nightmares” by Tunex252(op): 1:39pm On Apr 24, 2020
So you are not infected but you are in lockdown and watching the news. You just might feel too anxious to sleep well. You are not alone, though.
A study last month found nearly 76 in 100 Americans are facing the same problems, by their own account.
They have seen their sleep affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Only 23 in 100 said the pandemic hasn’t affected their sleep.
The study was conducted by US-based SleepStandards. Researchers surveyed 1.014 Americans aged between 18 and 65 years. Some 56 in 100 of the respondents were female, others male. So why does the pandemic make it difficult for Americans to sleep?
Understandably more than 969,000 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the US, and nearly some 49,900 have died. More than 80,000 have recovered. But that is not making sleep any easier for Americans.
Forty-eight in 100 Americans feel “anxious about what is happening”, the survey found. Another 26 in 100 worried about the safety of their loved ones. Twenty-three percent of Americans cited “loneliness” making it harder for them to sleep. Another 23 percent had “inconsistent sleep schedule”.
The study also asked how length of sleep has changed for americans. For 22 in 100 americans, there has been “no significant change in their sleep duration” in the wake of the pandemic. Nineteen in 100 American sleep more compared to period before the pandemic.
But 58 in 100 Americans sleep at least one hour less every night, compared to period before the pandemic. As many as 70 in 100 thought agree that lack of sleep makes them more vulnerable to coronavirus.
“Adequate sleep is crucial to optimum immune system functioning, so it makes perfect sense why 70% of people said lack of sleep makes them more vulnerable to Coronavirus,” says Nicole Johnson, president and lead consultant for The Baby Sleep Site. “I’m actually surprised it’s not closer to 90%. After all, when you are recovering from an illness, doctors all agree you should get ‘plenty of rest!’” Reports of inadequate sleep haven’t gone unnoticed.
It has gained traction as #pandemicdreams on social media, a collection of the weird and strange dreams the pandemic is eliciting in people right across the world.
Meredith Juliet shared hers on Twitter. “My #PandemicDreams are so crazy like I am getting a full story with a beginning, middle, and end. Pretty sure Michael Scorsese is directing them. There is usually mystery and animals.
The cast comes from the most random parts of my life. Exciting!” Emmy-winning investigative journalist Jean Guerrero said, “I had a dream I was stuck in an elevator that broke and began to plummet and plummet and plummet, and wouldn’t stop. Sounds about right.
#pandemicdreams” Experts think what’s happening is people are waking up more often in the night—and remembering more dreams.
One thing Americans are doing is taking things into their hands to catch up on the zzzzs. Up to 46 in 100 of them “avoid watching news and reading about coronavirus” and another 40 in 100 would rather read before going to bed. Twenty percent use sleeping supplements to help them improve their sleep in the face of coronavirus pandemic, and 21 in 100 turn to meditation or yoga.
But 16 in 100 “have sex before going to bed” to help them sleep better.
“I hope more Americans who are non-essential workers and finding themselves at home take this opportunity to catch up on some much-needed sleep in order to optimize their immune system,” says Johnson.
“Encouraging their babies and children to get adequate sleep is also important to help their families during this stressful time.”

Donald Trump bans ALL immigration into the U.S. to 'protect jobs' as coronavirus pandemic puts 22 million Americans out of work - but critics call it 'pointless' because country is already shut.
The president tweeted: 'In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens, I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!'

At least 22 million Americans are now out of work as tough measures to control the coronavirus outbreak wiped out 13.5 percent of the workforce and 10 years of job growth.

In an address to the nation last month Trump announced a drastic ban on foreigners traveling to the United States from Europe. He had already banned travel from China as the COVID-19 outbreak was spreading from the city of Wuhan.

Exact details of this latest order were not immediately clear but migrant farm workers and medics are thought to be exempt, The Wall Street Journal reports.

It was also pointed out on Twitter that The U.S.-Canada border is already closed, most visa applications are on hold and the administration essentially shut down the nation's asylum system last month.

The White House has not commented on Trump's latest tweet but the order is likely to face legal challenges.

Trump's tweet came as the U.S. death toll from the virus topped 42, 000. The United States has by far the world's largest number of confirmed coronavirus cases, with more than 779,000 infections, up 20,000 on Monday.

CrimeAgain, Bandits Kill 3, Abduct Many In Katsina Villages by Tunex252(op): 3:47pm On Apr 20, 2020
Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked Sabon Layin Galadima village in Faskari local government area of Katsina state, killing three persons and injuring two others.

This is coming barely a day after bandits killed 47 others in Dutsinma, Danmusa and Safana villages of the state.
Locals in Sabon Layin Galadima told our reporter on Monday that the bandits in large numbers on motorcycles arrived the village at about 5:00pm on Sunday and carried out the operations for over an hour.
“They went away with many animals and burnt down some houses,” one of the locals said.

Another added that “Those killed include a medical health worker at Unguwar Doka village, Sanusi Bello who came to the town at that moment and was shot.
The remaining two others are Safiyanu Abdullahi and Hassan Sani.
“Those injured and receiving treatment are Ibrahim Hassan and Adamu Ibrahim.”
The source, who asked not to be named, further revealed that at about 11:00am on Monday, a man was shot at Unguwar Doka while many have been abducted while trying to get firewood from the forest.
“These abducted people numbering over 40 are from Dandume, Faskari, Funtua and Maigora,” he added The spokesman of the state police command, SP Gambo Isah was yet to respond inquiries made on the incidences.
It could be recalled that about eight days ago, two persons were reportedly killed in two separate attacks by gunmen in Sabon Layin Galadima village.
They include one Buhari Umaru, a farmer who was shot on the spot and a child who died when gunmen opened fire on a commercial bus.
The locals had complained that people are being attacked and their valuables especially motorcycles carted away on a daily basis by some miscreants operating from neighbouring forests.

SportsPierre-emerick Aubameyang: Arteta Told To Sell Mustafi, Mkhitaryan To Keep Strik by Tunex252(op): 8:33am On Apr 20, 2020
Mustafi and Mkhitaryan have had a difficult spell at Arsenal, with the former often coming under sharp criticism from fans

- With Aubameyang facing an uncertain future, Charlie Nicholas is suggesting the duo should be sold to fund the Gabonese's new contract

- Aubameyang has scored 61 times in 97 matches since joining the Gunners and he is a key squad member for Mikel Arteta

Formal Arsenal star Charlie Nicholas has advised Mikel Arteta to offload the pair of Shkodran Mustafi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to raise funds for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's new contract.

Both Mkhitaryan and Mustafi have endured a difficult spell at the Emirates, with Mkhitaryan leaving the Gunners on a season-long loan switch to AS Roma last summer.

And with Aubameyang stalling on a new deal, Nicholas believes selling of the two Gunners players could collect enough to convince Aubameyang stay.

The former Borussia Dortmund star has just a year left on his current deal with the north London side, and handing him the captaincy role has not helped much in having him commit his future to the club.

CrimeCrime: Air Force Deploys Extra Helicopter To Support Police In Lagos by Tunex252(op): 8:45pm On Apr 19, 2020
The Nigeria Air Force has deployed an additional helicopter to assist the Nigeria Police Force in the war against crime in Lagos and Ogun States.

The extra helicopter is to give backing to the police air wing for surveillance air patrol.

The was revealed by Lagos State Commissioner of Police Hakeem Odumosu during a confidence-building patrol across the state with heads of security agencies.

The police chief said the show of force was to assure the residents of adequate security amid tension and apprehension of rumoured attacks by criminal gang ‘One Million Boys’.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police Hakeem Odumosu
Odumosu, in a press statement by the Lagos State police spokesman DSP Bala Elkana, stated:

“The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, and heads of other security agencies in Lagos State, which include: Nigerian Army, Air force, Navy, Department of State Service ( DSS) etc, embarked on confidence-building patrol across the length and breadth of Lagos State. The large convoy of the security chiefs visited Ikeja, Mangoro, Iyana Ipaja, Agege, Dopemu, Ojodu Berger, Ogba, Abattoir, Oshodi, Mushin, Lawanson, Surulere, Orile, Bode Thomas, Sabo, Ejigbo, Aguda, Ijesha, Ago Okota, Festac, Ejigbo, Ikotun, Idimu, Agege, Ikotun, Idimu, Igando, Mushin, Kofo Abayomi, Ajah, Ilaje, Langbasa, Adeniji Adele, Ebute Ero, Apapa, Ajengule, Tolu, Amukoko, Ijora Badia, Layeni, among others.

“The CP and other speakers addressed the residents of the communities visited in English, Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa languages. The CP reassured the people of the unwavering commitment of law enforcement agencies in the state to protect lives and property. The CP advised residents to shun rumour-mongering and spreading fake news. He described the rumour making the rounds on social media that a gang of criminals known as ‘One Million Boys’ is planning to attack some communities in the state, as baseless. He told them that the command under his watch had in the last four months incapacitated the gang and other criminal elements in the state with the arrest of over 800 suspects and recovery of over 40 various categories of firearms.

“On the assumption of duty as Commissioner of Police, he launched a special operation known as Special Strike Force on Social Miscreants with a mandate to identify the various cult groups and gangs in the state, took the battle to their doorsteps, targeted their top hierarchy and dealt decisively with them.

“The war against cultism and gangsterism requires a collective approach. The CP called on community leaders, traditional rulers, religion leaders, landlords association, etc to support the ongoing onslaught on criminal elements in the state. He urged parents to monitor the activities of their children and wards and ensure that their children are not recruited into any criminal gang.

“On the spontaneous creation of vigilante groups by youths in various communities, the CP said though, it is one of the principles of community policing for citizens to participate in policing their local communities, it has to be monitored and controlled by the police for quality assurance. Such vigilance groups must conduct themselves in a way that their activities will not create more tension and panic, as witnessed in the manner some of them were in the last few days seen displaying dangerous weapons and burning tyres. Their conducts creating more panics and in some instances, residents assumed them to be armed robbers and gangsters.

“In order to address this gap, community leaders and landlords associations among others, are tasked with the responsibility of vetting the youths the communities trust enough to participate in policing their neighbourhoods. The Neighbourhoods Watch initiative must be strictly monitored and controlled.”

In his remarks, the Air Force Commander said the Chief of Air Staff had graciously deployed Air Force helicopters to join the police helicopters initially deployed for aerial surveillance by the police.”
