I don't like him in the picture.

I love her DreamGirls figure. It shows what real women looked like, with curves and all.
Celebrities / Re: Lets Talk About Desmund Elliot by Tunmi(f): 4:18pm On Mar 20, 2011
Yowza! Do you happen to have a current picture?

Jennifer Hudson's size does scare me. It's as if her head is somehow abnormal compared with the rest of her body. Her size in Dreamgirls was perfect for her body type. I like that she's slimmed and toned up. As long as she's healthy and happy.

Foreign Affairs / Re: French Military Jet Opens Fire In Libya. by Tunmi(f): 5:54am On Mar 20, 2011
This does not bode well at all. I do not support it. It's history repeating itself but with 21st century technology. Led by the French, the English, the Canadians and the Americans--although Clinton and Obama are being cautious, and with good reason.

But it is all bullshit, all because of some oil. The thing that really pisses me off is when they use humanitarian causes as the reasons. Come on! Cote d'Ivoire is right there, Sudan has been going on for years now. That's where the artillery is really needed. But, I guess there's a minimum of oil reserves needed.

Fortunately, Russia, China and a couple other countries did not join because apparently, there was no specification on just how "any means necessary" would be achieved. I feel for Libya and its people.

How do you know the rebels from the civilians from thousands of miles in the air?
Politics / Re: Nothing Is Wrong With The Nigerian Education System - Buhari by Tunmi(f): 5:45am On Mar 20, 2011
passyjango:

You got it wrong; corruption is a by-product of a society that has gotten its values wrong. Like I said before the problem is not in the systems we have. Although they are not perfect (and non is) they can still get the job done given a better society. Take our education system to America or Japan and it will still run better than it does here. We need to clean up the society. Our problem is insincerity; we pay lip service to our development. We claim we want change but on Election Day we vote on sentiments: North or South, Not born rich or born rich, Christians or Muslims.

How can you say a system is bad when you have not implemented it sincerely and have consistently starved it of funds?

Here is a simple analogy, assuming your TV could not turn on during a low voltage situation. Do you then assume that the system (the TV) is bad and buy a new one? Even if you buy a new TV, at very low voltage the new system (new TV) will still not work, leading to waste of time and money. To conclude that your TV is bad, you have to first provide it with adequate power via your generator or connect it through a powerful AVR. Until the TV is supplied with rated voltage and it still does not turn on, only then will it be reasonable to conclude that the system (the TV) is bad.

We cannot assume that our Education system is wrong until we have fully implemented it sincerely and wholeheartedly. Only then can we objectively analyse the problems of the system.

Yes, you will keep getting quoted. You said it perfectly.

The system, which is the structure (not its administrators), is fine. There are laws in place. However, there is no implementation, which is the duty of the administrators. Buhari is spot on with this. The system is very similar to that in the United Kingdom and as the articulate person I quoted said, "Take our education system to America or Japan and it will still run better than it does here."

System different from the people running the system.

I know this is meant to be constructive criticism but I can't help but laugh. I hate his acting [along with other Nigerian actors and actresses] as well. As for his body, although I may not like his body, I think that if he's happy and healthy then he should stay as he is. . . On the other hand it wouldn't hurt if he toned up. There's always pressure on actresses to look good so why not the men? One actor I HOPE, WISH, and PRAY would work on his body is Ramsey Noah tongue

I could have sworn Ramsey does. I have never seen him looking flabby. I'm not condemning him for gaining weight. I'm just tired of seeing people getting fatter and fatter. Big is one thing, before Jennifer Hudson lost the weight (and subsequently scared me) her weight was fine. I just want some toning to encourage the public not to let themselves go. Plus, there's a reason Van Vicker is so ogled lol.
Celebrities / Re: Lets Talk About Desmund Elliot by Tunmi(f): 7:33am On Mar 19, 2011
Since we are talking about Desmond Elliot
1. He needs to go back to acting school or another performing arts institution if he plans to remain in the movie industry. I have watched his movies and I am disappointed. He does a lot of yelling an he overacts his part similarly to Tonto Dike. There is promise there because I do like his voice and he is one of those people who only needs some polishing on his speech. Whether as a director or actor, he needs to do his research. Reloaded2 was a hot mess. The first part was quite good, it set the plot but somehow when the movie involves a foreign location, the acting turns sour.

2. Exercise os your friend. This is not only a Desmond Elliot problem however. He does not have a babyface and it would help him of he was toned. He does not have to be muscle-bound, just toned so that he does not look like a flabby politician.

3. In the process of doing research, Desmond should hire screenwriters. Look at college graduates for inspiration and hire those people.

Politics / Re: Senate Confirms Ambassador Who Failed Anthem Test by Tunmi(f): 7:26pm On Mar 17, 2011
I'm assuming she did not spend her childhood in Nigeria. I remember in elementary school, we were required to know the states and capitals of all 36 states. Jigawa-Dutse, I believe. Google check: yep, I'm right. We also had to recite the national anthem and the pledge--and I remember students trying out to play the drums.

Or maybe she went to a different school,

That she could not recite the pledge is a big worry, a huge one. And I am disappointed that she got through.
However, I am happy that there was opposition and finally someone pointed out mediocrity: Jubril Aminu and Olorunmibe Mamora.

But, if she could not come prepared for the committee, just how would she prepare herself when she meets foreign representatives?
So, how does one goes about protesting her position?

Foreign Affairs / Re: Japan Was S.TUPID And Greedy To Build Nuclear Reactors. by Tunmi(f): 8:25am On Mar 15, 2011
I believe this person put it quite succinctly:

texazzpete:

, if they can't make air transportation 100% safe, is it worth the risk to the people on the ground?

ROSSIKE:

I think you're far too quick to dismiss those energy sources.

WRONG. The USA generates up to 35,000 mw on wind power. Germany generates at least 26,000 mw on wind.
And the USA or Germany cannot rely solely on wind power or solar power. It's a combination of all resources in order to provide for the population they have.

I'm slightly disgusted that in a time of natural disaster, because that was what caused this, you're pointing out that Japan was "stupid and greedy to build nuclear reactors" The earthquake and the consequent tsunami are unprecedented--never happened before. Those nuclear reactors were the source of power for that archipelago. Now, if Nigeria had its own power source, with all its resources, maybe--just maybe, you could say something to slight these people.

Oh and please bring up another argument other than the self-hating one, it's getting a tad bit played out.

I like Sheen. He admits what he did but he does not regret it, which infuriates everyone. I love his bad-ass attitude and he really does not care how others see him. In fact, he's advisin people to stop focusing on him. He does not care about the attention and I like him for that.

If many can rise up to this kind of occassion it would help alot because so many are in police custody for too long with no charges, some dont even know what offence they commited at all I really appeal to the judge to order the arrest of the IGP if he fails to obey the court order.
I hope the journalist follows this case until Mr. Hassan Germa is released. I really wanted the judge to send the IG to jail as punishment and as the scapegoat. If the IG goes to jail, a week or month, for this offence then everyone will take notice.

Dosunmu participated in the Lagos Gubernatorial Debate. Jonathan has no excuse other than e "did not understand the content" of the form he was supposed to sign. Shame, really.

Now will this be on YouTube? Please say yes.
Politics / Re: Who 'Won' The Lagos Governorship Debate On Channels TV? by Tunmi(f): 5:12pm On Mar 05, 2011
These are my notes based on the debates aired on YouTube.

Dealing with the Infrastructure Deficit.
Fashola--avoided the question. He only mentioned his achievements and apparently how we got the deficit.
Dosunmu--avoided the question. He only blamed the govt for abandoning projects that were already underway. Also explaining how we got the deficit. And his plan for a more transparent govt with candidates competing for positions.
Randle--he is funny and there solely for history lessons. I like him, he should write a book on the history of Lagos and etcetera.
My expectations--taxing corporations and paving the way for more domestic businesses. Supporting local businesses, who will in turn pay taxes (not exorbitant amounts) and encouraging more homegrown  businesses.

For unemployment:
Dominic--get industries working via available electricity.
Fashola--great rebuttal. Gave numbers and state website. But what is the website?
Dosunmu--a protectionist policy. But for whom, Lagosians or the companies? Also he wants companies to enjoy a pioneer status, that is, to not pay taxes.
Takoya--we get it, he is divined. Now answer the questions. He wants to make Lagos a construction yard to get rid of area boys and to implement a drainage system (I like that, it will help reduce the embarrassing flooding  every time it rains.
Randle--encourage graduates to become business owners.

Deficits in housing and stock
Takoya--use locally made materials instead of cement. Build houses for the people, less expensive houses.
Fashola--working on mortgage plans for the people so that the folks they build the houses for actually get them.
Dosunmu--he repeated what Fashola said without realizing it. He built the houses and is now in the process of finalizing a mortgage plan. (Fashola paid attention to history-Jakande)
Randle--another history lesson. I didn't know the British gave us a million pounds to get rid of the slums. This guy and Dominic should collaborate and write a book, in all seriousness.
Dominic--his mic is now working. Lagos is a slum, we know. But gave no plan to reduce the deficit.

Randle--"seeing the governor"
Fashola--my job does not allow me to see to the needs of everyone. I have people whose job it is to do just that. I have a phone number and an email address which the public can use. Use it. Also, you want to address me on a judicial matter, go to the attorney general.
Me--really, Randle, are we really talking about your house? What happened to the widow of the first mayor of Lagos that you brought up? Fashola tried not to air the dirty laundry and tried to be vague about it. But seeing the governor is not something the population of Lagos can all do. That is why you have representatives of local governments. Use them.

Takoya--"doctor's strikes"
Fashola--We are still trying to reach a compromise. And he literally begged the Doctors to accept their compromise. I love his demeanor.

So no one has the statistic on hand for literacy rate, except for Randle who said 40% and Fashola who said 98%.

Fashola--there is a distinction between literacy rate and performance level. (yes there is)
Randle--Feels Fashola owed him an apology.  (it's politics, get over it. If an investigation into your house disproved what he said, feel free to use it against him as a smear campaign)

Takoya--Lagos can finance free education.
Dominic--improve school standards.

Yemisi Ransom-Kuti--"25% women participation and Lagos as a megacity status"
Fashola--we have exceeded the 25% mark and Lagos is already a megacity, it only needs to become a model city.
Takoya--his party gives women an opportunity to participate in politics. (an opportunity? not a right. Smh)

Dominic--health care providers for all
(he spoke well)

Fashola--"it is not the age of their public service, it is the age of their ideas ." actually this was directed at Dosunmu but Randle took offense.

Dosunmu--accountability and transparency.

Randle--being petty. And for one who is a true lagosian, you have a pretty foreign surname. Abeg!!!!

My winners: Fashola and Dominic.

Sagamite:

Honestly, after watching this, the display by Fashola shows that he is way above and ahead of these other candidates. He is structured, clear and intelligent in his delivery and queries.

The ANPP Tokoya is a reeetard with his constant Divine rubbish.

The JK Randle is a complete cretin with his rant as a 67 year old so he must be able to see the Governor. And he rambles on insisting on his age and making stewpid claims of sacrifice for lagos, not putting forth any logic. What a foool.

The APGA ediot rambled so much and never knew where his argument was or going sometimes that the facilitator had to ask him "So what is your question". I felt depressed and was thinking these are the kind of incompetent mooorons that are in public positions in Nigeria. How the hell do you achieve goals in a meeting with such a fooool.

The PDP Dosunmu was the only credible opposition and he was full of PDP.  undecided
Takoya's diviness was pissing me off. Every question: "I'm divined". Finally he stopped.

Dosunmu actually supported Fashola when he mentioned Jakinde because that was what Fashola was doing. They both built houses and provided them to Lagosians at affordable rates. Fashola is still in the process of that, which should be finalized by ending of March. Their jabs were funny though and Fashola was so composed.

The first picture honors Fela more than the second one. The entire thing just reeked of disgust.
1. The blackface was unnecessary. There are Nigerians lighter than and the same complexion as Beyonce.
2. The make-up is horrible. Could they not get someone from the set of Fela! the musical. Where is the color, the life?
3. The outfits are horrible. What's with the leopard print? (which was made by her mother no less)

It begs the question? Was this just to promote her mother's business or to promote something else because it is an insult really.

Politics / Re: Sack Striking Doctors, Tinubu Tells Fashola by Tunmi(f): 6:45am On Feb 24, 2011
Eko Ile:

"Presently my salary in a month is N883,338.00 while a member of the State Executive Council earns a little over N500,000 monthly. The reality of the new wage we are offering is that the most junior doctor moves from N110, 000 per month to N170,000 while the senior doctors moved from about 360,000 to over 700,000 per month", he added.

The Governor reminded the doctors that unlike the Federal Government which they want the State to replicate its salary figures, the State Government also provides cars, houses and free healthcare to its doctors which is not done at the federal level.

The increase in the junior and senior doctors should be the same. The juniors only had a 55% increase while the seniors had a 94% increase. Other than that, these doctors are getting too selfish. The last negotiation should involve the junior doctors' salary as 170,000 and the seniors' to 558000 with car and accommodation only. They can use the same healthcare the citizens get. They get the same increase percentage. And if they do not accept, then the Lagos state government should hire other Nigerian doctors. (No need to go abroad)

And this amount is per month! Hmm, just how much is medical school? I still love that Fashola is talking with these people and not just sacking them outright. He's a lot more cool-headed than Tinubu, that's for sure.
Thanks for the info Eko Ile.
Politics / Re: Sack Striking Doctors, Tinubu Tells Fashola by Tunmi(f): 5:30am On Feb 24, 2011
Tinubu should butt out and let Fashola handle this matter. If he wants to give advice, let him do it privately. Otherwise, Fashola appears as a puppet and Tinubu as a nosey and obnoxious party leader.

Regarding the doctors, what exactly are their demands? How much is the cost of medical school compared to their salary, which I assume is per year? I like that Fashola is trying to reason with the doctors but could he provide documentation of how much his people make. I like the guy but I'd rather see proof than have him throwing numbers about. I wonder if the doctors want an increase in salary or better equipment. Anyone have any source as to their demand?

And that alone is incriminating. He started out with promise when he put professionals in certain government positions but now he is being seriously two-faced. What kind of Presidential candidate would not refute such damaging claims.

I cannot wait for those presidential debates.

I believe Quality is the issue . .  . We are still recovering from the INEC DDC-Machine situation as a nation, and from that we must have learnt that it in our best interest to pay for QUALITY at this time as we cannot afford anything less YET. If you can show that machines made in Nigeria are of equal or better quality than their Chinese made counterparts at this time, please do. Else, let's do away with the BLIND patriotism bull and be realistic.

Key word "quality"
Thanks for mentioning the DDC machines. The buses are for public use. I'd rather have a functioning bus that is sure to last some years than one that may break down in months all due to patriotism. When Nigeria has its own manufacturing industry then it can pose a challenge. For now, quality goes.

I happened to see this thread on the home page. The story's nice. It held my attention throughout. It could be made into a Naija (I hate saying Nollywood) film, with little modifications. The author did some research and I love how he/she included certain things like
1. Stereotypes of Nigerians and Americans
2. Mentioning Lagos as a metropolis
3. Nigeria's modern aspects
4. Nigeria's traditional aspect--ogun jedi
5. Nigeria's backward aspect--marrying off an already successful woman
6. The tribal aspect, which is true. Yorubas tend to classify Nigerians as Ibo, Hausa or other Yorubas. Sorry
7. The Green Card thing. She adds it without being overbearing and it rings true.
8. The weather, gosh I remembered.
9. The career change from Journalism to almost always Nursing or some Counselor for special people.

I await the rest of this piece on NL. I love the discussion and analysis here.
