It is a big disgrace to the NPF and I know the man will not escape dismissal.The government should do more for the welfare of the officers, salary is not the only thing because no amount is definitely going to be ok.Let government build house and give out to our officers on subsidiarity, government can be removing some amount until the individual complete the payment.Many officers are depressed,many are mentally exhausted,many are phycological unbalance.The work load is making many unstable.An unhealthy man cannot carry out his duty effectively.NGOs should assist the government in taking good care of the police.How a nation police behave is how the nation in general behave.

Even if FG pay police N1,000,000.00 monthly their complain would still be the same; that the money is insufficient. I didn't think so,no inspector is going home with that amount.However, government should look into housing issue, give a police officer a house and collect the money from his salary.it will reduce the rate of extortion, because no man will be on pressure to build a house.

Alcoholism is a medical condition. Anyone can have such condition.

Is he fit to serve with such a condition? NO!!!

Are there similar police officers with such condition? Yes!! , many.

Were they alcoholic before they joined the force? Probably, not so. Serving in the police force exposes one to situations that predisposes an individual to alcohol dependence. Having to work at odd hours, the physical and mental exertion the nature of their work depresses, the trauma often experienced, yes, they have to be at accident scenes, encounter other violent intensive situations. Substance makes it easier to cope with the aforementioned.

So if it’s a job specific issue, why is he not fit to serve? Alcohol inhibits the ability of the officer to make decisions that has mortal consequences.

What can be done? It can be argued that alcoholism is a disabling condition. However, if professional support such as psychological therapy are accessible by the officers, and there is control over how much alcohol can be consumed and such is done in a safe hour, not before duty, and further, the police authority engages more hands to reduce the work experiences that spurs the problem, we may begin to address the issue.

This officer is probably lost on cheap and dangerous alcohol. There has to be consequences for him, so as to deter others. However, if such consequences is to fire him, and not provide a much more concrete solution to the problem of alcoholism, we would continue to see officers like this.

It's high time Nigerian police employ only graduates.

If there's need to employ people with first school leaving certificate, then the officers hold such qualifications should be barred from carrying out arrest or bearing arms unless they are under supervision of higher authority with good education

quota system will not allow them because it will affect the north more, but the police have enough graduate that are still not recognize.Many graduates don't want to join the force because it is unattractive and very risky.
