God bless Edo/Ife land.

Onitsha isn't igbo land

GREAT BENIN ORIGIN OF ONITSHA

BENIN ROOT OF ONITSHA
Many of our traditional titles are the same with the Edos/Binis: Onicha titles like “Iyasele” is “Iyasere” in Bini; “Ogene Onira” is “Oliha” in Benin; “Odu Osodi” is “Osodin” in Benin; “Omodi Daike” in Onitsha is “Edaiken” in Benin; “Esagba” in Onitsha is “Esogban” in Benin; the “Isama” titles are the same in both towns amongst many others. The “Obi” of modern Onitsha today is the continuation of the ancient Pharonic dynasty of ancient Kemet or Egypt. Onitsha must retrace the history of her monarchs from his imperial Majesty Obi Achebe back to the Ogiso Kings of Igodomigodo in Edo, then to Egypt; to Pharoah Tutankhamon, Pharoah Amenemhet, Pharoah Amenemes, Pharoah Amenkhuti Ra; Pharoah Khafara, and back to the first dynasty in Egypt. Enough of this tracing of our kingship to just Obi Oreze or his father Ohime(corrupted to “Chima”) by his later descendants. Onicha people came from Benin or Edo land, they were also in Igbo land. I suspect that the Priests of Nri were distantly connected, that is why till date an Nri King upon consecration must bring certain sacrifial items to the Obi of Onicha and must sleep over in Onicha before assuming the Nri throne. Why would the very traditional Nri people who were(and still are) known all over the Igbo land as a holy people and the spiritual custodian of all Igbo lands, accord these rights to Onicha Kings? All these indicate that Onicha and many other tribes had had prior interactions and established certain traditional precedence which had been ongoing before the Onicha town was founded just around 700 hundred years ago. No Nri man would just concede to subject his divine King to some unknown immigrants who just crossed over from the Niger River, if that were to be the case.

authoritatively portray the following facts that the Ikelike people from the Bini kingdom were the first to settle in Ogwashi-Uku (see Ben Nwabua, Ogwash-uku Kingdom, 1000 Years of Traditional Democracy and Cultural Life, 950-1914). Both traditional and empirical sources gives credence that Ikelike people were the first set of immigrants to settle in the present Ogwashi-Uku as against the notion that Adaigbo who purportedly came from Nri in present Anambra State today is the founder of Ogwashi-Uku. So far, no counter claim has been made on this. According to Ogwashi-Uku intelligence report by Mr. J.E Hull, the then Assistant District Officer dated on the 9th of April 1936, the Ikelike people from all indications migrated from Benin to settle where they are found themselves today, because of a reign of wanton persecution of subjects by the then Benin Monarch, Oba Eweka 11. The story further goes that at the head was Odigie Ikelike with his younger brother Ado who later founded Adonta, a relatively small village close to Azungwu in Ogwashi-uku today.

The Ikelike migrants were said to be politically averse and could not, therefore evolve an orderly method of governance even though there were small in number. Jull`s report further went on to point out that because of such indisposition towards an effective means of governing themselves, it cost them the political leadership they were first to settle in. Rather, Adaigbo, the prince from Nri later came, controlled the situation and imposed leadership based on Igbo customs and tradition on them and what later became Ogwshi-Uku kingdom. Adaigbo’s imposed of republican system, however, later gave way to the hereditary system of the Benins . BENIN EMIGRATION OR EXODUS: The migration of Onicha people from Benin happened in phases over many years and did not happen once. The Ohime/Obi Ezechima’s exodus was one of the last ones that occurred but it should be noted that not all Onicha people left with Obi Eze Chima or Ohime. Some stayed back and are still in Benin today. Some took a different migrationary route towards Ile Ife and Ado Ekiti. Some went to establish Ondo. Some made a northern migrational journey towards the north to establish the Igala Kingdom. The Attah of Igala and a substantial part of the Igala kingdom were Onicha people who immigrated into Igala from Benin. The first Attah of Igala was a Prince of the Edo/Benin Kingdom. Now it can be understood why the Onicha people were ferried across the Niger and greatly assisted by their Igala kinsmen when they reached the banks of the Niger river. It can also be understood why Onicha people easily incorporated many Igala rituals and traditions into their own concepts. They were of the same roots but different branches. Onicha people left Benin to establish Igala; that was the secret behind the easy adoption of and exchange of different tenets amongst Onicha and Igala people. Some Onicha people, before Eze Chima’s exodus, had left Benin to establish other towns like Issele Ukwu, Ebu, Kwale, Ezzi, Onicha-Ukwu, Okpanam, Asaba(originally called “Araba”) and some other towns of Benin orientation that had been established before the Ezechima’s exodus from Benin.. It was these settlements that habored Obi Ohime/Ezechima when he and his family fled from Benin. The migration from Benin to Onicha Mmili took many years, towns of Onicha-Olona and Onicha-Ugbo were established by Onicha people who felt reluctant to continue and follow Obi Ohime to Onicha-mmili. ESTABLISHMENT OF ONICHA-MMILI AND HER RULING DYNASTY: Obi Ohime or Eze Chima, having been told that he could not enter Onicha, stayed for a long time in Obio with his family and relatives before he died. After he died, his relatives decided to continue with their migration to establish Onicha. The qualification for whom shall be crowned king was conditioned upon who shall sound ancient rhythms on a wooden Ufie. Traditionally, Ufie cannot be owned or be sounded/beaten by a person whose father is still alive. The contestants to the throne having just lost their father, had no ufie, however, Oreze Obi, had carved one which he hid under the boat and sounded first upon getting to Onicha whilst his siblings were busy looking for the appropriate wood to cut for the Ufie.

The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law, INTERSOCIETY, on Wednesday, revealed that no fewer than 350 communities in Igboland have been forcefully invaded and permanent camps erected by herdsmen, with Enugu State having the highest number of such invasions.

This is even as South-East governors and the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, have finally agreed on a template for the implementation of community policing in the zone after the governors had accused the police boss of breaching an earlier agreement reached on the matter.

The Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum and Ebonyi State Governor, Chief David Umahi, after a teleconference held with IGP on Wednesday, said they had agreed on modalities to implement the policy and that there was no longer disagreement between the governors, other leaders of the zone and Adamu.

He stated that after the meeting, Adamu agreed that the various security apparatus at the local communities should be deployed in the areas to safeguard lives and property.

Umahi noted that part of the agreement reached at the meeting was the training of community members by the police, while those trained would carry out the community policing in the different states of the zone.

He added that an advisory committee, to be set up in each area to supervise the operations, would be headed by the traditional ruler of the community with other selected stakeholders as members.

“This is at the community level and this is well accepted by the governors of South-east and other leaders of the zone,” the governor said.

Umahi explained that IGP also agreed that state Commissioners of Police in the zone made a mistake by making the selection, adding that anyone that had gone ahead to do the selection process made a mistake.

He said it was left for the governors and stakeholders to select those that would form members of the community police.

“Since the last hours today, we have been having meetings with the Inspector-General of Police Adamu, and the five governors of South-east attended with the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, in attendance. Others in attendance were the leaders of South-east, including Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Chief Jim Nwobodo, and traditional rulers.

“The meeting centred on the communiqué we issued after our Sunday meeting of governors and leaders of South-east at Enugu.

“We, the governors of South-east, and our leaders, were the first to accept community policing because of the beautiful ingredients of community policing.

“IG explained to us when we had the meeting at Enugu and we saw that the idea in the policy will assist us. So, when the CPs made a mistake by going to do the composition by themselves and asked the governors to inaugurate, we felt that something was wrong somewhere and we had to contact IG.

“At the local government level, we agreed that there will be a local government advisory committee to be headed by the local government chairman at each local government area. The DPOs (Divisional Police Officers) and other security agencies, the traditional rulers of that local government, and other stakeholders will be the members at that local government level.

“At the state level, you have the governor and the security chiefs, the chairman of traditional rulers’ council, and some selected stakeholders and interest groups.

“This is what we have agreed and we agreed that the South-east will implement theirs and inaugurate in their various states. When next we meet at Enugu, we will harmonise our views in line with these agreements we reached,” the Ebonyi Governor said.

He further disclosed that part of the agreement was for each state to pass a law, called South-east Security Law, among other things, based on the guidelines, which would give the legal backing to community policing in the zone.

In the main, figures on the invasion of Igbo communities were contained in a statement endorsed by INTERSOCIETY’s board chairman, Emeka Umeagbalasi; Head, International Justice and Human Rights, Ndidiamaka Bernard, and three others.

The statement read: “There are not less than 350 Igbo communities, villages and other locations now invaded and permanently occupied by the herdsmen and ‘imported’ Shuwa Arabs also called ‘cowmen’ in Arabic.

“The number of Igbo communities forcibly occupied by the jihadists has recorded exponential increase from about 139 in August 2019 to alarming 350 in May 2020.

“By the combined accounts of the Association of the Eastern Town Unions, the Alaigbo Development Foundation and the Eastern Outlook newspaper, “as at August 2019, 139 Igbo communities, villages and locations have been occupied by herdsmen, out of which Enugu State has the highest number with 56, followed by Anambra with 24, Imo 17, Ebonyi 12 and Abia seven.

“In Igbo areas of Delta and Rivers, there are 15 in Delta and nine in Rivers.

“But in our recent detailed review and update, the number has exponentially increased from 139 in August 2019 to not less than 350 in May 2020, out of which 318 were factually located and presented below while 38 others were added as ‘dark figures’ or ‘factually existing but not captured figures’.”

Igbo's please we have made our point on "What have Yoruba produced?" Thread, we have shown not just Nairalanders, Nigerians but the entire globe what we have been able to achieve in Nigeria against all odd, that thread have shown the Igbo ingenuity, innovation and doggedness as a matter of fact it has gone a long way to show what an Igbo nation is capable of achieving, even the Yorubas that created the thread were confined to a status of mere onlookers and were subjected to admiration of our ingenuity in fact many of them doubted it and believed that our companies showcased are random foreign companies whose picture were recycled from google. That goes to show how far we have gone in terms of technological advancement, manufacturing and innovation and to think that most of the heavy machinery used in those companies were fabricated in the east, Aba precisely is a thing of joy and pride.

However that is not the point of this thread, Igbos are know to be wise, and it is not surprise that the three wise men came from the east, however our actions on that thread is not one that portrays wisdom especially in the society that we find ourselves today. Igbo's let us be wise in our actions, it is true that Igbo's believes in Equity, equality and justice for all, we also know Igbo's are Liberals, Capitalist, democratic in custom, but we must not assume that the border context "Nigeria" that we find ourself today Shares these same ideals and ideologies with Igbo's, we might just be shooting ourselves in the foot by trying to take pride in our achievement while it is a thing of joy and honor, however our current border context does not support this. We must realize that we are doing some of these our great sons and daughters a great disservice by showcasing them the way we are doing, I must confess I am guilty of this on that thread, we must realize that some of these companies receive massive patronage because many people are not aware they are made in Igboland.

In addition many of these Igbo executives and chiefs who own these companies are riding to success cause their products are assumed to be imported and most of them export their products, many of us must realize that the Igbo's are the only ones in the federation who don't care where a product is manufactured as long as it is made in Nigeria however that cannot be said of any other tribe except maybe the Hausa Fulani too who don't care. It is only the Igbo man that will see a product boldly written made in Ogun, Jos, Kano, Kaduna, and does not care as long as it is made in Nigeria Igbo's will patronize it. However that cannot be said when a Yoruba or other Nigerians see a product made in Onitsha, Nnewi, Aba, Enugu, even when these products are unrivaled in the market and have proven to be the best or smashed every fail or credibility test you still hear Pharses like, "Igbo made" "Aba made" "Omo nna product" especially when these product come from the east, this why our manufacturers would prefer to write made in FRC or made in India.

We all know the issue Yorubas have with Innoson is that it is not made in Lagos or Ogun, so expanding his plant to Uyo infuriated them even further. Also we must realize that showcasing our indigenous industrialization prowess will make leaders in power make policies that will be unfavorable for Igbo industrialist, We all saw it happen to Ibeto, Slok, Erisco just to name a few, even Innoson was made to face established foreign competition to stifle the growth of the company if not for the doggedness of the Igbo man the company would have long closed shop as many had expected. We must also realize that the reason many Yoruba artisans like mechanics, technicians, carpenters, always advice you to buy Tokunbo over new products when it comes to car, generators or motorcycles spare parts was because many of these products are manufactured in the East, ignorantly I did not know this and would always buy the used parts as being superior to the locally manufactured new ones which I was made to consider inferior. However what these artisans would not tell you is that the new ones are made in Nigeria, made in the East, primarily their reasons for boycotting it.

My experience in 2014, my Honda EOD would always have issues with the stabilizing links and I would always change them monthly with tokunbo as advised by my mechanics so after this continued for too long, I felt i was being used and deceived by these guys I angrily told them on the next repair to by a new one instead of the Tokunbo that would always spoil after a few weeks, the mechanic disgruntled however heed to my words and bought a new one I checked the name it was "HACO" I did not bother to check were it was manufactured (Buying HACO was be best decision i took for that car since I bought it) after the mechanic was done with installation and upon inspecting I discovered that the screws were loosely holding the tires I kept mute drove to a safe distance tightened the screws and called the mech to tell him that my tires flew out while I was in motion, before I even finished the statement he was already shouting Oga shebi I tell you say, make you buy Tokunbo you talk say na new one you want, at this point I dropped the call and went to the trunk of the car to check where the product was manufactured, it was boldly written made in Nnewi, then I realized how far some people could go to discredit an Igbo mans product, Interestingly I never had to change that link until after 8 months when the car was due for service, Now I use only new products even if it is made in Togo.

Another scenario, before I never knew A-Z was owned by an Igbo man in fact I used to think it was owned by "Mummy" princess Bola Jegede, the Owner of A-z schools which I attended and she also has a football academy, however I was wrong, before then my mechanics (Another Mechanic) apparently like myself was also ignorant of this too, he advice me that if I wanted the best engine life for my car that I should always use A-z he said it was so good people used it if their cars had gearbox problems, then to my greatest surprised here on Nairaland I realize that A-z was owned by an Igbo man I shared this information it with my mechanic because of the way he promotes it he argued with me and said it was owned by a Yoruba the same woman I assumed when I convinced him showed him proofs beyond doubt he kept mute, on the next service he brought AP, when I asked him why AP he said "A-z fake done full market" I refused using the AP and said I would get the original A-z myself, which I did, afterall he told me if I want the best engine life I should always use A-z so I insisted.

I did not suspect any fowl play or lie however, it dawned on me when the same thing repeated it self, He advice I always use seahorse ATF stating that it was the best on the market, when i told him that the product was setting up a factory in the east and was owned by an Igbo man, on the next service he came with Master ATF, when I asked him why masters ATF he said "Seahorse fake done full market" i did not bother telling him that master ATF was owned by an Igbo man since then my car have been using Masters ATF. So Ndigbo this is why I call on us to use wisdom, we know what we are capable of we do not owe anyone any explanations neither do we have to prove anything to anybody, instead of engaging in this unhealthy back and forth with Yorubas thereby endangering our manufacturers exploits please let us try to add more value to the East by patronizing them, setting up more industries and protecting the existing ones not exposing them to danger, I would have added some encounters i faced promoting my products too, but this thread is already too long.

Igbo's let be wise and guided. Daalu nu.

So Ndigbo this is why I call on us to use wisdom, we know what we are capable of we do not owe anyone any explanations neither do we have to prove anything to anybody, instead of engaging in this unhealthy back and forth with Yorubas thereby endangering our manufacturers exploits please let us try to add more value to the East by setting up more industries and protecting the existing ones not exposing them to danger, I would have added some encounters i faced promoting my products too, but this thread is already too long.

afonjaheadhunt:

The Yorubas seem to have locked down the pre-paid meter manufacturing market. undecided There is another company known as MOMAS/MEMCOL that also manufactures over 50,000 pre-paid meters every month, locally. It is owned by two Yoruba families. I'm still trying to get the info on them. Will put it up once I am done.
shocked

Please do! These infos are quite informative and educative.
