250 graduates establish toothpick factory in OndoPeter Dada
Some youths have established a factory for the production of toothpicks and pencils in Akure, the Ondo State capital, under the sponsorship of the National Directorate of Employment.
The factory, where over 250 graduates are currently working, is said to be the first of its kind in Africa. The idea of local toothpicks production in Nigeria was said to have been conceived by a young graduate who convinced the management of the NDE that the product could be produced with bamboo stems. At the inauguration of the factory in Akure, the Acting Director-General of the NDE, Mr. Kunle Obayan, said the NDE’s sponsorship of the project was part of the agency’s effort towards complementing the micro-economic policies of the Federal Government, aimed at stimulating local production of goods.
He explained that some young graduates approached the agency early this year with the proposal to set up the factory to produce toothpicks, adding that the agency accepted the proposal because it was perceived to be a viable project.
He said, “It is on record that millions of dollars are being spent on the importation of toothpicks and pencils. The Central Bank of Nigeria no longer provides foreign exchange for the importation of toothpicks; therefore, the viability of this project is not in doubt.”
Obayan called on other young graduates with good ideas to bring their proposals to the NDE.
“We are ready to sponsor any good proposal so that our youths will be empowered and unemployment will reduce in this country,” he said.
He explained further that the agency would support the factory from the production point to the marketing of the products to enable the business to survive.
The initiator of the project, Mr. Samuel Babatunde, expressed his gratitude to the NDE for the support given to him and his colleagues to execute the project.
He urged that Federal Government to tackle the problem of power for the business to survive.
He said, “We came to the NDE with the idea of starting a toothpick manufacturing factory. Another set of colleagues also came up with the idea of starting a waste paper, pencil manufacturing factory. The NDE did not shun us, but rather, they encouraged us.
“They provided the funds and moral support and today, we are witnessing history being made here in Akure, Ondo State. Today, the first toothpick manufacturing factory in Africa is being inaugurated.” http://punchng.com/250-graduates-establish-toothpick-factory-ondo/ |

Yoruba Keyboard Language Pack Is Now Available For Mac And Windows Users
Now this is handy.
The geniuses at Yorubaname.com have come up with a nifty little language tweak for Mac and Windows users. Users can now include tone marks and subdots in their names and sentences by installing a Yoruba keyboard language pack.
There are other solutions out there, especially on Windows, that make writing in yorùbá (see that?) a possibility but the team claim their language pack offers both layouts with very similar key combinations for consistency.
If you remember, this is the same team that brought us Twitter in yoruba. Or at least were partly responsible. Seems they have no intention of slowing down.
You can download the installation pack on their website

It is an ongoing process.that NA and the world's worst police force killed armless protesters while they can't do nothing to one of the world's terror groups in NE Nigeria is mind bugging. They ended up making themselves a laughing stock in the commity of nations justifying the daming and image tarnishing report of Amnesty international. Anyway, so far so worst.. What has brafra achieved so far, even after all the threats o burning down the zoo? Shewunoshewa: What it seems to you doesnt matter
The facts remain that:
1. Protests were staged
2. They were peaceful
3. Nobody was shut to the dismay of the yEasterners
4. The protesters were responded to and their message has been received.
5. It didnt matter whether the yEasterners were part of it or not. Don't mind those bitter ipods. They prayed, wished Yoruba to be slaughtered, creating all sort of rubbish threads all over NL for a week now. But thank God, they failed again. The God Yorubas protected them. Ntoor |

Israeljones: Todays protest is sign that A peaceful protest can done in Nigeria without any single evidence of violence.. Even to the point that the lagos commissioner has to join in the protest... But i still really dont understand why each time the ipobians goes on a self proclaimed peaceful protest there is always shedding of blood and record of deaths... or could it be as a result of the matured party behind todays protest or perhaps the over aggressiveness of ipobs... something must be missing
guys i need ur comment on this,,, so the ipobs can learn on how to make a peaceful protest without records of violence.. @lalasticlala My brother. You ain't far from the truth. Have you wondered why they were so scared about the recent/today's protest, informing each other's for weeks now not to join in the protest? Obviously, ipods or whatever they are called have been successfully tamed and humbled- no be small thing. Anyway, na their horoe I pity The way they avoid and fear the North no be small my brother
