Mine was like dat,my EDD was 18,22,29. Stil nothin happnd,went 4 ANC on d 27 dr wntd 2 do membrane sweep 4 me but culdn't cos my cervix was closed n d head no engaged.He told me 2 come 4 inductn d folowin day which was 28th cos I was 41wks+2days...I was scared 2 go n I decided 2 wait 4d last EDD wish was on d 29th,stil nothin.In d evenin of dat 29th I decided 2 go 4d inductn with d encouragement 4rm my WONDERFUL sisters here...And was induced d folowin day which was on d 30th @ 41wks+5days...Wat I'm tryin 2 say is,I dnt knw y ur doc wnt u 2 go 4 cs cos it can't be cos of ur closed cervix.Sorry 4d long epistle

@ the bolded.....Apart from closed cervix, Dr said baby is too big at 4.4kg to engage into my pelvis hence he kicked out induction and opted for a CS.

I actually had a somewhat similar case. Had to have a Csection after being induced and going through labour for almost 10hours with painful contractions every minute and an undilated cervix. Baby was too big (came out at 3.5kg) for my pelvis, cervix very closed and high up and unresponsive to the induction. Eventually baby's heart rate started to drop and then I was wheeled to the theatre. It was painful, especially the spinal block/epidural but quick. Over in 40 minutes. Baby is healthy and thriving beautifully and I've already attempted my first walk after surgery.

So don't worry too much about it, book your section and have faith that God would see you through.

@tyconcepts, you are in my prayers. No too blame the Dr, he must have discovered the unfavourable cervix during the sweep hence his call for cs.
Pls cooperate with him and book for d cs esply as baby is post date already. Miracles can still happen before the date.

Sweetie is it that ur Dr didn't do a vag examination at ur last ANC.? All I know is that it's going to end in praise....

He did a vaginal examination during my last ANC and mentioned closed cervix also but suggested castor oil saying a lot can happen before my next appt which was yesterday.

You are like 42weeks gone, baby has already overstayed, your cervix is still shut. Have you been trying the pineapple therapy, walking and kpekusing?

My 2cents... book an appt for your CS and pray that God's will be done. Anything can happen at the last minute and if nothing happens thats a sign you should go ahead with it.

Sending warm hugs to you...I know how it feels when all your birth plans go south..

Why I feel bad is Doc should seen it coming rather than wait till am this far gone to bring my attention to it. He told me previously that baby is big but vaginal delivery was possible hence I chilled else I would have gotten it over with at 38wks - 40wks.

I believe in the God of 11th hour....I will take your advise to heart.....Thanks ((((Hugs))))

If u trust this Dr, pls go wt wot he s telling u. It s actually d case in sm women. And wen they insist on vaginal delivery, they usu hv prolonged labor and finally hv d said cs. So pls, think it thru, seek good counsel, pray and do what s ryt. Tym s of essence.

I trust him but just pissed with him coz he waited 41+4days to tell me this...So short a time to decide. And the financial aspect of a CS like he mentioned is 130k - 220k (Its a private hospital) which we are not prepared for at all.

Yes EDD was 27th September....He mentioned induction during my last ANC so I tot that was what he would carry out today but after checking me via a scan and also after trying to do a membrane sweep which he couldn't do coz according to him my cervix is tightly closed, he said chances are that the induction would fail so he wouldn't advise it further.

So today was my ANC and I got news from my Doc that didn't go down well with me. He said baby's head is yet to engage and that my pelvis is too small and also considering my height (Am average height, close to short) hence the baby hasn't engaged coz its a big baby.....I did a scan and baby weighed 4.4kg.....Doc said my best bet is an Elective CS to avoid stories that touch....I wish above all things to have a vaginal birth.

Did I mention my EDD was 27th September??

Am confused and being a FTM isn't helping.

"Membrane sweep" it's sweep in naija and in Australia it's strip.

The aim is to cause the release of prostaglandin. Which helps for the start of labor.
Anyway the Dr inserts her finger and move it round the cervix... Like get a cup and move ur finger around the cup... Exactly.
So it will now ginger Or shld I say trigger ur cervix and sometimes it will also separate the membranes from the baby.



Sex also cause the release of prostaglandin too..

Clear explanation ma'am. I can understand. I guess no cause for alarm then.

No be late packing ooo! Bags has been packed and kept by the door for over a month. LO just dey do shakara and baking seriously but am at ease EDD was slated for 27th but as at my last ANC on the 24th, my doc said the head isn't engaged yet (that its still balloting) so he recommended lots of walking around and kpekusing which has been engaging in faithfully ...Doc also said if by Oct 1st I haven't pop LO out, I will undergo a "membrane strip off".

Am patient.
