Okowa To Float Technical Colleges In 25 LGAs

Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has promised to establish technical colleges in all the 25 local government areas of the state to boost vocational skills acquisition.

Okowa made the remarks yesterday at a seminar on; “The 2019 General Elections” organised by E.K Clark Solidarity for Okowa in Warri.

The theme of the seminar was: “Free, Fair and Credible Elections: A Panacea for a Stable Delta.”
The governor, represented by the State Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Kingsley Emu, said that the development would help increase job creation in the state.

Governor Okowa said that his administration had constructed 1,056km of roads in both the uplands and riverine communities in the state.
He urged the people to support his re-election bid to enable him to consolidate his numerous achievements in the state.
“I urge you to embark on door- to- door campaign in your neighbourhoods and come early enough to your polling units to cast your vote.
“We have constructed a lot of roads, schools and other projects; we want to do more for our people,” he said.
Earlier, the keynote speaker, Prof. Godinni Darah, advocated proportional representation of political parties in governance. Darah, a Professor of English and Literary Studies, Delta University, Abraka, said that the development would give parties that lose election a sense of belonging in the government.
He said the gesture would help to address the multifarious political parties because weak parties would align.
“The idea of winner- takes- it all should be reviewed; any political party that gets about 10 per cent should be rewarded with either Commissioner or other positions.
“That will help to reduce the number of political parties and also entrench peace,” he said.
Darah also stressed the need for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain neutral in the conduct
of the elections.“INEC must show equity and neutrality; it should not compromise and it must satisfy all the parties to achieve free, fair and credible elections. “Gov. Okowa has done very well in all aspects of development; he deserves re-election to enable him to consolidate on his achievements,” he said. Also, Prof. Sam Oyovbaire, the Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Organisation in Delta, acknowledged the relevance of non-indigenes in the state.
Oyovbaire urged the people to support the re-election of Okowa to continue with the good work in the state.
Also, Mr Simeon Efenudu, the National Coordinator, E.K Clark Solidarity for Okowa, urged the people to vote enmasse for Okowa and other PDP candidates.
“EK Clark had publicly endorsed Gov. Okowa for second term and has not relented in campaigning for him.
“He also directed his followers to campaign for the governor,”
he said. (NAN)

UNWAVERING COMMITMENT TO POLITICAL TRUST; GOV. OKOWA IN FOCUS

BY CHRIS ODIA

Political Campaigns through town hall meetings, Visitations to Wards and all manner of mobilization towards assumption of office usually set up a ‘tall ambition’ for elected officers.

This is expected because their findings, assurances and promises in the course of the political tour, would remain sources of reference for the populace and instruments for measuring their performance.

On assumption of office therefore, the task to fulfill such political trust bestowed on the elected officer becomes germane if he would continue to sustain the followership of majority of the people.

On the other hand, the elected officer somewhat becomes the ‘whipping object’ for opponents, who in their quest to shore up political relevance, resort to namedropping, rumour mongering and the likes; all aimed at castigating the incumbent and finding fault with all government policies and initiatives.

The administration of H.E Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa has received its fair share of such political dimension that has bedeviled our polity.

Though one striking fact has remained, which is that, the Governor is unfazed with such theatricals because he continues to deliver on his mandate while paying less attention to ‘Politics of Bitterness’.

He creates warm atmosphere for robust interaction with sections of personalities, stakeholders and community leaders through town hall meetings, stakeholders’ sessions, among others where he presents his score card and takes note of their concerns.

Not a few Deltans are convinced that the Governor’s works are enough to secure a second tenure for him. Without mincing words, his campaign strategy has been that of moving round the entire State, showing his works and making genuine promises on projects to be executed without casting aspersions on personalities. A rare bred Politician!

Amongst others, the revamping of technical education and job creation scheme are model initiatives for which this administration had received local and foreign commendation.

His systematic approach towards tackling essential projects like the Storm water project in Asaba and the spread of infrastructural development across the State are ‘Campaign Monuments’ to deliver the ticket for a second tenure.

The series of endorsements and awards so far received from the three senatorial districts, corporate bodies, professional bodies, youth associations, political leaders, national and international organisations, leave no sensible Deltan in doubt that his achievements within these 4years running, are visible to both Deltans and non-Deltans.

H.E. Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has judiciously justified the confidence reposed on him in his first tenure; he is therefore a trusted leader that should receive the support of all for a second tenure.

He continued, "your Governor, Senator Okowa is one of the best Governors this country has produced, we are grateful to Deltans for being loyal to the PDP since 1999; the roads that you have in the state came through the PDP, most of the development in the state were done by the PDP, so, why will Deltans not vote for PDP?"

Governor Okowa at the rally, stated that Deltans are peace-loving and his administration has built bridges of unity among the people which Alhaji Abubakar will replicate once he emerges as President by uniting all Nigerians and making them to live in peace.
The governor listed the achievements of his administration in the health sector, job creation, health, road construction and summed it up by calling on all Nigerians to vote for the PDP candidates in the forthcoming elections as such would attract development to the country.

"The most important thing to us as a people is that we are seeing the future, a future which the PDP will bring peace to our entire country; we are prepared for the elections and from the crowd we have today, you (Alhaji Abubakar) will be encouraged to know that Deltans will vote PDP in large numbers, and we will defend our votes," the governor said.

Why Deltans Will Vote Massively For Okowa, PDP Candidates – Obielum

By Fidelis Egugbo

IT was a rare achievements two days ago when the Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa bagged the “Governor Of The Year Awards” presented by two respected media organisations - Vanguard Media Limited and Independent Newspaper Limited.

At both ceremonies held in Lagos, Deltans were made proud that, out of the 36 states of the federation, Governor Okowa’s hard work in making Delta better was recognised. Naturally, this is an election period and the governor who have been on tour of local government areas to reel out his achievements which he believes will earn him second term ticket has assured the people of the state of more goodies.
With the series of awards, a respected political leader in Delta State Chief Godwill Obielum has said that Governor Okowa will get a second term ticket from Deltans because his works that dots communities in the state have campaigned for him.

Chief Obielum in an encounter, said, “we congratulate our Governor, Senator Okowa for the series of awards, we are happy that his achievements, his contributions to the development of our state are being recognised nationally and internationally, but, the greatest joy is that Deltans who are direct beneficiaries of the achievements are also appreciative.

The governor is going round on campaign but, we know such is for formality because, Deltans will re-elect him not only because of the zoning formula or rotation of offices as some people may say but, because, the man has worked and delivered dividends of democracy to the satisfaction of Deltans.
Our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is stronger now in Delta State because of the achievements of our Governor and from February 16, Deltans shall be speaking with their voters cards by voting for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as President. We are calling it 5/5 victory because all the candidates of the party will be voted for.

Since the creation of Ndokwa East local government area for instance, we have not witnessed the type of development, good governance that we have seen in the area since 2015 that Governor Okowa emerged, so, the slogan, is, Okowa again and with Okowa, it is a goal.

In terms of road construction and physical Infrastructures, we have several roads constructed in Iselegu, Ushie, Ashaka, Beneku, Okpai and Aboh to mention but, a few. We are also aware of the current approval for the construction of the multi-billion naira Kwale-Beneku Bridge which, when completed will bring to an end the suffering of our people using that route daily and also an end to the use of Pontoon to cross the Ase creek for decades.

What I am saying is that the achievements of the governor in Ndokwa East local government area alone, especially, in the area of human capital development, where our people are great beneficiary of the Health Care programs, O5 Free Medical Care Initiative, Full Health Insurance Scheme, renovation of the General hospital, Aboh, renovation of Health centers at Ase and Ibrede are enough for the governor and PDP candidates to get all the votes. We are also aware that some other health centres in Ossissa, Abala, Ushie, Afor, Inyi, Asaba Ase have been earmarked for renovation this year.

Also earmarked for renovation are others in Ossissa, , Beneku, Okpai, , Ushie, Ase, Asaba-Ase, Igbuku, Onyia, Umuolu, Abala Uno, while approval for the renovation of over eight other community schools have been given for this year as well. Ashaka Skill Acquisition Center will commence before the end of February this year and in the area of empowerment, over 2,000 youths, 3,000 women (Including widows) and a large number of our men and women are beneficiaries of several empowerment - STEP, YAGEP programs which include skill acquisition and entrepreneurship programs of Governor Okowa's administration. Our people have consistently benefited from the introduction of several improved species for Cassava, Yams, Poultry and Fish products.”

Chief Obielum who is the Chairman of Delta North Senatorial District Campaign Council of the PDP expressed confidence that “God almighty will give us absolute and total victories at the polls; the PDP will clear all the votes because, earlier last year, our Governor ensured that water projects as well as environmental programmes were executed across the 17 wards in the local government area.

The people of Ndokwa East has always and will always deliver maximum votes for our Governor and candidates of our great party, the PDP, for this coming general elections, we will greatly improve on the number of votes for our party to ensure the completion of eight years, two terms for our Governor, and other PDP candidates will win with wide margin in the February 16th and March 2nd general elections.

We strongly believe that the second term of Governor Okowa will bring about consolidation in the development of our area because, this is our government, a government that is bringing development to riverine communities with very difficult terrain cannot be toyed with. We have mobilised the youths, women and elders to give overwhelming votes for all the candidates of the PDP.
You can see the unprecedented number of persons coming out at the campaign rallies, that is clear evidence of the acceptability of Governor Okowa, the popularity of the PDP because, Delta Is PDP and the PDP is Delta State, you cannot separate them,” Chief Obielum said.

With Okowa, PDP Is A Mass Movement – Ejakpovi
By FIDELIS EGUGBO

IN the next couple of days, the campaign train of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will complete its tour of all the local government headquarters in Delta State. Following the successful flag off of the campaigns on Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Oghara Township Stadium, Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa who is the PDP gubernatorial flag-bearer, has led members of the party to campaign at 19 out of the 25 local government areas of the state.
At all the venues of the campaign rallies, Deltans of all walks of life came out in their large numbers to appreciate what the governor has done. Governor Okowa is seeking re-election to complete his mandatory two terms of four years each as the Governor of Delta State. Since his emergence as governor in 2015, he has displayed an uncanny knowledge of good governance which has endeared his personality to the hearts of Deltans. From 1999, Delta State has been home to the PDP with former Governor James Ibori of Delta Central and the immediate past Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan completing their two terms of eight years respectively.
Governor Okowa of Delta North is also expected to complete two terms based on the zoning arrangement and in the true spirit of rotation of political offices. The performance of the governor since May 29, 2015 when he assumed office have however, changed the scope in the electoral equation as most Deltans who hitherto, were not bothered about who governed them, have come out to say that if the governor could do so much in three years, allowing him another four years would usher more positive changes in their lives as Governor Okowa who is experienced, will consolidate on his achievements and touch more lives positively.
Dr. Pharmacist Nelson Ejakpovi is a founding member of the PDP in Delta State; he has held a lot of political offices and at a time, contested for the Chairmanship position of the party. As a result of his commitment to the affairs of the party, he was shot by assassins which got him to be in the hospital for several months as he narrowly survived.
During the course of the campaign rallies, Dr Ejakpovi who is the Secretary, Medical Committee of the PDP Campaign Council took time off to chat with this reporter where he said, “the hour is upon us not just to get it right for our party as we used to do by voting for all the candidates of the PDP, but, the hour is upon us to increase the number of votes the party will get from our state.
I have followed the campaign train from the beginning and I can tell you that we have never had it so good. At every campaign ground, the crowd, the people are receptive, unprecedented turnout of people in support of our Governor who they describe as an achiever, a Medical Doctor who feels the pulse of the people and reacts appropriately.
Evidently, we now have more registered voters in our state than what we have in previous elections because, the people want to appreciate the governor with their permanent voters’ cards, they are eager to vote for all the candidates of the PDP. Succinctly put, with the performance of Governor Okowa, the PDP is now a mass movement in Delta State and that will reflect in the number of votes all the candidates of the PDP will get in the elections,” he said.
Dr Ejakpovi who exactly one week ago (Sunday, January 20, 2019), floated a cooperative society for women of Emevor Kingdom in Isoko North local government area of Delta State stated that such gesture was borne out of the passion of the women to key into the prosperity agenda of Governor Okowa's administration. He observed that the election of Governor Okowa and all the candidates of the PDP is a done deal and all that is at stake is how the people will reap bountifully from the Governor’s prosperity agenda in the next four years.
Chairman of PDP, Delta South Senatorial District, Hon. Emman Amgbaduba, the Odion of Emevor Kingdom, HRH Solomon Ikama; President-General of Isoko Development Union (IDU), Chief Iduh Amedhe; IDU Women Leader, Chief Mrs Felicia Suleiman; pioneer Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Okoro; Chief Saliba Umuokoro and a host of other opinion-moulders in Isoko nation attended the ceremony which the women of Emevor attended in their large number.
“From 2015 till date, a lot of women, youths have become millionaires, entrepreneurs from different programmes of the administration of our Governor, Senator Okowa. This gathering is to honour our mothers; they have supported us so much. We cannot thank them enough. Our Governor is very passionate about empowerment issues, but, we cannot wait for government to do everything for us; one of the criteria to access government loans is through cooperative societies; we are aware that most of the beneficiaries of loan facilities for instance belong to cooperative societies, but, I was surprised that while some persons have benefited from the programmes, most of the women in Emevor are yet to utilise the windows of opportunities created by Governor Okowa to grow their wealth," Dr Ejakpovi said.
Dr. Ejakpovi who is the Chairman, Governing Council, Delta State School of Health Technology, Ofuoma disclosed that the funding of the initial take-off of the cooperative society was one of his philanthropic gestures and does not expect anything in return other than the growth of the cooperative society and financial freedom of its members.
He stated, "we have always assisted people financially to solve challenges but, that is not the way to go. If they must have financial freedom, they should be thought how to fish, not given fish always. Our people are well organised, they have good structures and I am confident that they will grow their wealth with this cooperative society. It is for women of Emevor across political, religious divides. This is because, our Governor sees all Deltans as one, he does not look at political, religious or ethnic affiliation before someone can benefit from the empowerment programmes or get dividends of democracy. Our women are happy with Governor Okowa and we are appreciating them.”
“With this cooperative society, the women, our mothers who are mainly farmers and traders will have the opportunity to access different loan facilities, empowerment programmes of Governor Okowa because, our Governor has done very well, he has provided a lot of opportunities for our people to be empowered and don't forget that during the townhall meetings, at every local government area, he did not fail to beg the people to have cooperative societies to enable them have full access to government facilities because, as individuals, it may be difficult but, as an organised group, the reach, the potentials are unlimited."
Such events cannot be devoid of political statements as Dr Ejakpovi thanked God for providing him with the means to assist people and commended Governor Okowa for the political opportunities, noting that as an active member of the PDP Campaign Council, "at all the venues of the rallies, you will see the passion, the conviction in the people that there is no alternative to Governor Okowa till 2023. We are sure of the victory of Governor Okowa and with the inauguration of the PDP Campaign Council in South South Zone of which I am a member, we are confident of 100 per cent votes for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as President, and you know, we are sure that all the candidates of the party will be victorious.”
Chairman of the party in South Senatorial District, Chief Emman Amgbaduba described Dr Ejakpovi as an asset to the PDP, stating, “this is a practical way of appreciating good governance. Dr Ejakpovi we all know is a loyal party man, a man who is at home with his people.
As a politician who has great support at the grassroots, he is naturally thanking the people, appreciating the women for encouraging their children, their husbands to vote for only Governor Okowa and the PDP in the elections, we are happy and confident that this N3 million for the initial take off of the cooperative society can grow to become a micro-finance bank. Isoko people will vote for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as President, Governor Okowa and all the candidates of the PDP. “
President-General of the IDU, Chief Iduh Amedhe literally turned the event to a fund-raising ceremony as he asked the personalities to financially support the initiative. At the end, about N5 million was raised for the take off of the cooperative society.
Chief Amedhe stated that Governor Okowa has done well for the Isoko nation and entire Deltans to get re-elected, observing that while the construction of the Emevor/Orogun road project has commenced, efforts are on to restore electricity to the community.
The women, dressed gorgeously, came out in their large numbers for the ceremony and they were appreciative of what Dr Ejakpovi did, assuring that the money would be well utilised for the purpose it was meant for. They also, thanked Governor Okowa for empowering their son, assuring that the PDP Candidates will get all the votes from Emevor as there is no one in opposition political parties in the area.

THE DELIVERY OF DEMOCRATIC DIVIDEND; GOV. OKOWA’S LANDMARK, A CASE IN POINT

BY CHRIS ODIA

The fact that the present Governor of Delta State, H.E. Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, is reaching certain unreached areas in terms of development across sectors, is obvious to every sane and right thinking Deltan.

The spread of infrastructural projects across the length and breadth of the State is a testimony of preparedness and also a demonstration of governance beyond partisanship.

While the first year of the Governor’s assumption of office could be interpreted by political watchers as a year of taking stock of the battered economy of the State and thoughts about strategies to be adopted in arresting the pillage of unsettled debts and payment of salaries, the second year could be explained to be a year of consolidation in office. After all, politics is all about the acquisition, consolidation and use of state power.

True to the expectations of the people, having acquired State Power and reasonably taken stock of the State’s position across sectors (consolidation), he was prepared to change the narratives.

His campaign mantra which was ‘Prosperity for all Deltans’; came to the fore. Every of his administration’s policy was and has been geared towards the growth and development of Deltans, as well as Delta State.

The infrastructural development in the State is awesome; the stadium, international Airport project and massive road networks crossing previously impassable roads, linking villages to towns, with a view to expanding economies are unbeatable.

The Human capital development programmes, revamping of technical schools/education, contributory health scheme, storm water project, massive secretariat complex, construction of modern markets across the State and the idea of establishing a modern mechanic village with the foreign technology therein, are pacesetting initiatives.

Consequently, his developmental strides in ensuring the laying of the foundation for a new Delta State which obviously is a practicality of the mantra ‘Delta Beyond Oil’ have resulted in myriad of awards and commendation from notable institutions like the World Bank, National Competitive Council among others

Sequel to the above he had received countless endorsements from tribal groups, professional bodies, traditional rulers, various associations among others, a repeat of the acceptance that his candidature received prior to the 2015 elections.

He has been on the move again, with his democratic deliveries handy, touring communities and villages, seeking the people’s mandate for a second tenure. So far, it is obvious that with the acceptance by the people and retinue of political harvests from the opposition, his reelection is settled.

THE OKOWA REVOLUTION 1.

Okolo Hessington Chimennma

It was the inimitable revolutionary and philosopher that stated that "Each generation must, out of relative obscurity, discover its mission, fulfill it, or betray it." And it is obvious to all and sundry even the doubters amongst us that the incumbent Delta State Governor, Sen. Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, has dicovered his mission and happily is fulfilling it in the years he has held sway as Governor of the state.

Dr. Okowa was sworn in as the fourth democratically elected (and the third in the current democratic experience) on May 29 2015. In his inaugural speech, Dr. Okowa signed a contract with the people of Delta State with his S.M.A.R.T policy agenda. The governor at his inauguration had “outlined a five point agenda encapsulated in the acronym SMART which means; Strategic Wealth creation projects and provision of jobs for all Deltans; Meaningful peace building platforms aimed at political and social harmony; Agricultural reforms and accelerated industrialization; Relevant Health and Education policies; Transformed environment through urban renewal”. This SMART agenda is anchored on his campaign slogan of "Prosperity for all Deltans" and in the years he governed the state, the people of can attest truthfully that indeed Dr. Okowa has strived to bring prosperity to all parts of Delta.

A look at the education sector will show that the Okowa administration has strived to uplift the poor infrastructure it inherited from the out gone adminstration. It is said that education is the bedrock of any society and I daresay it is the bedrock for a prosperous society.

It is obviously for this reason that Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has taken a keen interest in upgrading the education infrastructure. Upon assumption of office, the Okowa administration formulated a technical and vocational oriented education policy with the objectives of boosting literacy, expanding quality education and developing skilled people.

This is why one of the very first bills the sent to state Assembly by Okowa was the technical and vocational education bill which was meant to help revamp and fast track technical education in the state.

The government of Okowa has done a total reconstruction of the state-owned technical colleges in Agbor, Ofagbe and Sapele and has upgraded facilities in the other three technical colleges in Kwale, Ogor and Issele-Uku. Technical education is obviously at the core of the educational policy of the Okowa administration which is based on his belief that technical education will aid self reliance of our teeming youths. The Okowa government has also embarked on the reconstruction of primary and secondary schools across the state.

Another area the Okowa administration is stamping it's feet in the sands of time is the health sector. On assumption of office Governor Okowa had immediately sent a bill on contributory health insurance scheme.

The Scheme commenced in Delta State on the 1st of January 2017 with Pregnant women and Children under 5 years of age who are the most vulnerable members of the society. As at 31st of July 2017, over 71,000 pregnant women and children under 5 years have been enrolled and are receiving service under the Scheme in Delta State Government healthcare facilities.

Also Infrastructural upgrades have been going on in all levels of care training institutions across the 3 Senatorial Districts, including primary health care, secondary health care and School of Nursing.

I will be x-raying the fulfillment of Okowa in line with his pact with Deltans. As a man who talks less and do more, Okowa whose sobriquet is Ekwueme has gone ahead to begin a silent revolution in all facets of the life of Deltans. Okowa needs the support of all Deltans to achieve more as he has consistently promised on his campaign trail, and as a man who has fulfilled his first pact with Deltans it would be easy to trust him again with our mandate for another four years.

Okowa Urges Nigerians To Vote For Only PDP Candidates

The governor made the call today (23/01/19) during the campaign rallies of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Bomadi and Patani, Bomadi and Patani local government areas of Delta State respectuvely.

According to the governor, "holding political office in trust for the people requires qualified, capable individuals, and the PDP parades such qualified candidates; political positions is not for all comers."

"While we engage in issue based campaigns, we should know that my opponent in the governorship race is a serial contestant and a serial loser; he is a bad product that is difficult to market," he said, adding, "you, the electorate should elect capable and experienced hands; governorship position is not a training ground, those who wants to contest against me should first of all, hold other political positions."

The governor who was accompanied to the rallies by his wife, Dame Edith and his Deputy, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, thanked Deltans for their support, asserting, "we have a partnership that works, a genuine partnership between government and the governed, it has made the people to freely tell what government what they need, how they feel and we, as a government, has responded, we have empowerment programmes, we have constructed roads and because, you call me the road master, we will construct more roads in the next four years, we have built schools, we are working with our people and the smiling faces I see here, the crowd shows that our people are happy and we are happy when we know that our people are happy."

He listed some of the projects his administration has executed and is executing in the area, emphasising, "vote for all the candidates of the PDP, we are sure of victory, because we have handed over the campaign to God, no one can stop us."

Those who spoke at the venues of the rallies include, Alaowei Broderick Bozimo, Rt. Hon. Basil Ganagana, Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, Prof. Sam Oyovbaire, and Barr. Kingsley Esiso.

Several classroom blocks were renovated at Iselegu, Ashaka and Aboh. Also earmarked for renovation are others in Ossissa, , Beneku, Okpai, , Ushie, Ase, Asaba-Ase, Igbuku, Onyia, Umuolu, Abala Uno, while approval for the renovation of over eight other community schools have been given for this year as well. By Jimitota Onoyume & Festus Ahon

PROMINENT Urhobo personalities under the auspices of Urhobo Progressives Network, UPN, have called for the re-election of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for a second term, stressing that all ethnic groups in the state should respect the power rotation arrangement that had seen the governorship position rotated among the three senatorial districts since 1999.

Addressing journalists in Warri, Delta State, Director General of the group, Chief Emmanuel Okumagba, flanked by other officers of the group hailed Governor Okowa for his achievements so far, adding that the governor had transformed several communities to modern cities.

He said, “Given the constitutional provision which allows for two terms of four years each and coupled with the unwritten agreement for the rotation of the governorship position among the three senatorial districts, our stands is that UPN, unequivocally supports Okowa to be re-elected for a second tenure in line with existing facts.”

In this regard, we hereby call on all our Urhobo sons and daughters to vote en mass for Okowa in the interest of justice, equity and fair play.

“We are persuaded that given the present momentum of performance and considering the improved inflow into the state, Governor Okowa will surely do much better and greatly surpass his present performance in his second term,” the group said.

Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa was on Thursday night crowned ‘Governor of The Year, 2018’ for his diligent delivery of democratic dividends and working to make Nigeria’s democracy better by the Independent Newspaper.
Okowa, a former secretary and later, chairman of Ika Local Government, Commissioner for Agriculture and later, Health, as well as Water resources, Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and senator representing Delta North in the National Assembly before emerging as the governor of the state, while receiving the award at the event held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos, attributed his success stories to years of learning the act of governance and strong partnership with the people of Delta State in delivering democratic dividends.
The governor, according to a press release made available by Delta State Press Unit, who attended the event with an array of personalities from the state, said: “Recall that last year, I was here to receive the ‘Man of The Year Award, 2017’ and I am honoured again today.

These are possible because we are in perfect relationship with our people back home.
“I thank God for His blessings. Though the terrain was tough, but I am able to succeed with our people because of the experience we have garnered in the act of governance over the years, in partnership with all Deltans that are now, more united than ever. As a government, we will continue to ensure good governance and better days ahead for us all.

My agenda for Delta – Okowa

By Sony Neme, Asaba

Delta State governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has disclosed that the state would witness continued infrastructural development and provision of other amenities to make life better for the people of the state in his second term.
The governor spoke during his campaign tours of Aboh, Kwale, Ogwashi Uku, headquarters of Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West and Aniocha Aouth local government councils.

While appreciating the people of Aboh for the massive turn out, Okowa said: “In continuation of our focused plan for infrastructural development, work will commence very soon at the Kwale-Okpai bridge, which is already in 2019 budget to replace the age-long pontoon, which the people have been used to.

“We are aware of infrastructure needs of the people, which is why we have awarded roads construction and rehabilitation, health care faculties, schools and lots more.”

The governor used the opportunity to allay the fears of those worried by the court case against the deputy speaker.

He said: “With regards to those who are disturbed about the court case, there is no need to worry, because the law is clear about that. You can’t be expecting to be sworn in, in a matter that concerns PDP, when you have already decamped to the opposition party. That is not possible?”

At the campaign stop in Kwale, the governor charged party faithful to ensure that the large turnout is replicated during the elections, even as he thanked them for the peace in their domain, which he said has helped his government to deliver dividends of democracy.

The governor said he expects a minimum of 70,000 votes from the local government area as evidence of their strong support.

Earlier in his speech, state PDP chairman, Mr. Kingsley Esiso, said, “the atmosphere we are witnessing explains that there is no other party in Ndokwa East; APC brought hunger and starvation. They brought Fulani herdsmen to rape and kill our mothers. Thank God, PDP has brought Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to chase Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari out of Aso Rock.”

The Senator representing Delta North Senatorial district, Peter Nwaoboshi, speaking on behalf of all Delta North candidates, said: “I wish to express my joy for the mandate given to us at the primaries. We shall continue to represent you better. Forget about the court case involving Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Osanebi. He remains our candidate.”

Highpoint of the rallies was the donation of nine Toyota Sienna buses for the nine Delta North campaign coordinators, a Toyota Thundra truck for the Delta North coordinator, and 1,500 t-shirts and face caps respectively, among other campaign materials, by the embattled deputy speaker, Rt. Hon. Osanebi.

Remain United To Achieve Victory, Okowa To PDP Members
... Campaigns In Asaba, Issele-Uku, Akwukwu-Igbo

30 days to Presidential election, Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to remain united to achieve victory at the polls.
The governor made the call today (15/01/19) at the PDP campaign rallies at Issele-Uku, Akwukwu-Igbo and Asaba in Aniocha North, Oshimili North and Oshimili South local government areas of Delta State respectively.
According to the governor who was accompanied to the campaign rallies by his wife, Dame Edith, his running mate, Burutu Otuaro and other top politicians in the state, with unity and cooperation, the PDP will win in all the elections billed for February 16 and March 2, 2019.
"We are going into the elections as a united people, we should cooperate, because, through cooperation, we will get maximum number of votes; let no one be involved in anti-party activity, let us get votes that all of us will be proud of," Governor Okowa said at Issele-Uku.
He added, "the leaders and the youths should work together, everybody should be recognised; this is the turn of Delta North to complete two terms because, it will not be good that after working for other Senatorial Districts to do two terms respectively, the people of Delta North will fail to support their own for two terms; we have worked, our success stories abound in all parts of Delta, we will do more in our second tenure because, we are experienced and we have peace."
At Akwukwu-Igbo, he challenged the people to check any form of electoral malpractice, saying, "there will be no room for rigging, there should be close monitoring of the elections because, our votes must count, collect your Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs), encourage others to get theirs; we should get all the votes that we can."
Excited with the huge turnout of Deltans at venues of the campaign rallies, Governor Okowa expressed confidence that he may be returned unopposed by the people as his main opponent in the elections may join his campaign train.
The governor at Asaba, stated, "I love Deltans, you are my people and I am happy with the show of love by you all to me and my administration; from the feelers reaching me, the heavy turnout at the rallies, it will not be a surprise that Deltans will return me unopposed."
"I have spent several years in Asaba, I am proud to be a Deltan; Asaba should wear a befitting look because, it is the mirror with which investors, visitors see the entire state; we are constructing storm drainage in Asaba, we are going to do the same in Uvwie and Warri; our development is not limited to major towns and cities, the rural areas are having good impact of our development programmes," the governor said, adding, "in the second tenure we will do more in the area of entrepreneurial programmes for our youths; we will do a lot of empowerment and provision of infrastructure that after our tenure in 2023, any Governor that will emerge in Delta State will have a lot of challenge to meet up with the standards that we are setting."
He thanked the people for their continual support and asked them to vote for all the candidates of the PDP in the elections.
Those who spoke at the rallies including former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Chief Benjamin Elue, Chief Austin Izagbor, Chief Edwin Uzor, Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, Prince Ned Nwoko, Barr. Kingsley Esiso, among others observed that the governor has done a lot to be re-elected, adding that with the zoning formula of the PDP, he will be re-elected with high margin of votes in the election.
