Why I will be reelected as Governor in 2019 – Okowa

By Fikayo Olowolagba

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta has said he would emerge victorious in 2019 election and defeat any governorship candidate in his state.

Okowa, speaking on Friday, said his excellent performances in the last three and half years as governor would earn him victory in the 2019 general elections against opposition parties.
Okowa made the assertion while responding to questions from delegates at the Executive Session of the 14th All Nigeria Editors’ Conference in Asaba.

He noted that his administration had performed well, going by funding available during the past three years.
Okowa said: “So, I am very sure of returning to power as Governor of Delta, if INEC can conduct free, fair and credible elections in 2019.
“Judging from what his administration had done, he would not have any opposition to face.

“In spite of his numerous achievements, I would still go out to campaign to seek for votes from the electorate.
“I have always supported that INEC should be allowed to conduct local government elections in order to provide a level playing field for all and for the parties to have faith in the system.
“But, what has happened overtime is that the opposition don’t come out to campaign.
“This is because they do not trust the electoral system; so the ruling party wins all the council elections.”
Okowa added that the situation could change and become competitive when the parties began to have trust in the electoral system.

2019: Okowa Advocates Alternative Source Of Funding For INEC

AS members of Nigerian Guild of Editors brainstorm on how to achieve a credible general elections in 2019, Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has advocated for change in the funding of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the commission is truly independent.

The governor spoke today(12/10/18) at the executive session of Day 3 of the 14th All Nigeria Editor's Conference (ANEC) which had as its theme, ‘Credible Elections, Sustainable Democracy and the Role of the Media,’ in Asaba.

According to the governor, "INEC is supposed to be an unbiased body, so, how can they truly be unbiased? How will they get their source of funding? How will they work on their process of appointments? These and more questions are what we are supposed to address and they have to be dealt with in such a manner that we can give them enough power, make them truly independent in such a manner that they do not walk cap in hand to the executive to ask for funding, because when you know that somebody controls the funds, you will definitely not be in a position to be truly independent."

"It will be hard to say, no when such individuals in charge of the funds make certain request, and I believe that INEC is gradually moving, I still believe that there is a lot to be done which means that our legislations must be in such a manner that will truly make INEC independent and if they are going to be answerable to anybody at all, they should be answerable to the legislature and not any other arm of government which will be better," Governor Okowa said.

Governor Okowa used the occasion to disclose why the Peoples Democratic Party's special Convention Planning Committee which he was the Chairman was able to organise a free, credible and acceptable presidential primary election of the PDP, saying, "we did our best to conduct the primaries that one can truly say that we did things, the way they ought to be, because we had to extract from our National Executive that we would be allowed to do what is right otherwise, we will not accept the nominations to conduct the primaries and I thank God that they allowed us do what is right and once we do things right, it becomes easier for one to move forward and the press is very important in trying to turn things around for our country."

"If all of us work together and that means that the press must be able to report appropriately, they must be in the position to advise us the politicians appropriately and they must be in a position to fully inform the people and beyond the information, they must put us, politicians, under pressure and it is very important that we must realise that not just the Guild of Editors but, the entire press need to play the role it ought to play if we are able to do things better that will gradually improve the situation, so that we can conduct elections that are credible," Governor Okowa added.
The governor who used the occasion to reel out his achievements in Delta State, emphasised, "generally, in our country, I do believe that the need for voters' education, the need to ensure that we take our people out of the poverty level are motivations that will help us to improve on the electoral process because, as long as our people continue to remain in the poverty bracket, there will be no integrity."

PoliticsEmpowering Delta Youths Through Sports by ubikings(op): 5:49am On Oct 12, 2018
Empowering Delta Youths Through Sports

The plug for youths’ development
has long been fixed in the order of relevance
by the sports loving government of Delta State from the beginning of the current
democratic dispensation.

This has been designed to promote, educate and enhance the growth of Delta State youths as a way of creating a sense of belonging for them and it has been the anchor point of the development drive that has arguably arrested the initial youth restiveness among the youths within the state

The Chairman of Delta State Sports Commission chief Tonobok Okowa has expressed his determination to develop Delta youths in several ways and this has become obnious going by the veictories in all the youth games since he assume office.

Youths are exceptionally gifted in one sporting talent or the other and the ingenuity
of the state’s successive governments
have made the place the cynosure of all interest in the drive for athletes in the country .

The level of engagement and the attending
benefits to these youths have been most alluring and adoring as many other people would want to attest that the drive is quite encouraging.

Thus, interests and passions have ultimately
been improved upon and in a very consistent order.

This has turned the matter to the glory of the present administration as the State under his watch, secured the National Youth Games three consecutive times leaving no one in doubt that the materials are available in their numbers but efforts would be put in place to discover and utilize them.

These exploits can however be improved
upon as there are always room for improvement and working in that view, youths who are still in school [primary
and secondary level ], government should set up different games like football,
basketball, volleyball, abula, table tennis and their kinds and at most times, organize a competitions from different Local Government Areas or between and other youths to make them more coordinated in such games so as to put in their very best since the zeal has already been established.

The exploits made in sports so far across the country, have made youths able to take up responsibilities that would have been seen as a tall dream some years back.

This empowerment should rest on every
sector that will enhance youths in the society; first, to believe in themselves and rejuvenate the ‘can do’ spirit that will urge them depend and preserve the self esteem which most often, prompt individuals to develop acumen for further innovations.

PoliticsHow Okowa Emerged As PDP Guber Flag Bearer by ubikings(op): 5:07pm On Oct 10, 2018
How Okowa Emerged As PDP Guber Flag Bearer
By FIDELIS EGUGBO

GETTING your political party's ticket to fly its flag in an election is a great achievement, especially when such party is popular among the people. It is a strong indication of your acceptability in a democratic setting. In Delta State which is dominated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), getting the party's ticket is as good as getting the victory at the general elections.
In Delta State the battle as to who emerge as candidates of the PDP for different political offices - Senate, House of Representatives and the State House of Assembly are fiercer than the general elections. Interestingly, that of the governorship position was a smooth sail for the incumbent, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa who was literally returned unopposed. It was the first time the party was having such experience in the oil-rich, multi-ethnic state.
Governor Okowa was the only aspirant for the governorship position, he was screened, but, in line with constitutional provisions of the PDP, there was a well organised primary election for the governorship position in Asaba. More than 3, 000 delegates of the party from all the Wards in the state converged in Asaba for the primary election.
Former Governor of the state, Chief James Ibori, former Deputy Governors of the state, Chief Benjamin Elue and Professor Amos Utuama (SAN) were among delegates who voted at the primary election. Chairman of the committee that organised PDP primary election. Mrs Uzo Nwandu declared Governor Okowa winner, stating that out of the 3, 278 accredited delegates from the 270 political Wards in the state, 26 invalid votes were counted, while 3, 252 votes went to Governor Okowa.
The emergence of Governor Okowa as the candidate of the PDP for the governorship election was significant in several ways - it was a vote of confidence by members of his political party that he has done well within four years and deserved re-election. Bearing in mind that most Deltans belong to the PDP, Governor Okowa's emergence as the candidate of the PDP was a strong indication that Deltans are comfortable with his style of leadership.
Again, Governor Okowa's achievements in repositioning the state to be an investors' haven through the provision of infrastructure in almost all the communities made it such that opposing his re-election will amount to a wild goose chase.
Politically, Governor Okowa is a respected leader of the PDP. He is seen by many people as the fulcrum where the successes, integrity and popularity of the PDP revolves. As I write this piece, he is in Port Harcourt, Rivers State as the Chairman, National Planning Committee of the party's national convention. As you read this piece this morning, there is every likelihood that the PDP Candidate for the Presidential election has emerged.
Governor Okowa, it is worthy to state is conducting the National Convention of the PDP for three consecutive times. Through a convention he conducted, the current national leadership of the PDP led by Prince Uche Secondus emerged.
As such, after conducting a convention that midwifed the current leadership of the PDP, it would have again be a wrong political calculation for a member of the party to battle with him for the governorship ticket of the party in Delta State.
So, on 30th of September, 2018, all the delegates of the PDP and by extension, all the members of the PDP affirmed through a transparent and credibly organised primary election that Governor Okowa deserves to continue with his good works for Deltans till 2023.
With the declaration of Governor Okowa as the winner of the primary election by the Chairman of the electoral committee, Mrs Nwandu, one can rightly say that the PDP in Delta State has gone back to the drawing board to map out strategies to retain its victory streak in the state since 1999.
Obviously elated Governor Okowa shortly after been declared winner of the primary election, said he has been re-energised to work for Deltans.
He said, " dear delegates and the good people of Delta State, during the 2015 elections you will recall that promises were made and we have continued to do the best that we can despite the very challenging times to ensure that we met with the promises, but one good thing that Deltans have done is that they have continued to pray for us and partner with us in governance. I must say that I am very grateful to all Deltans particularly our leaders, our youths and our women. I thank you all for all that you have done to ensure that we have a peaceful state because, without peace, we cannot develop.
Governor Okowa, who at the occasion announced that his Deputy, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro will be his running mate for the second term, continued, “the PDP in Delta is a family and we are very proud of this family and because we realize that we are a family, PDP has insisted that there will be equitable process where there is justice and fairness; because we are one family the PDP endorsed my candidacy in 2014 and I went through by the special grace of God during the elections and we won. Today, in your belief for equity, justice and fairness, the party has returned me unopposed as its candidate. I am very grateful and I thank you for being a party that reasons that we can only be a family when there is equity and fairness.

I want to assure you that we will continue to remain strong under the leadership of our leader, Chief James Ibori. This party will remain focused, this party will be about Delta, we shall continue to ensure that we are strengthened enough to be recognized very strongly in national politics. There is no need to be afraid, there is no need to shake. When something happened in some states, people send text messages but, we have come as always in the name of God and because God is with us, there is nobody that can be against us.
We are strong and we will continue to remain strong. We will go forth into the elections and we will win landslide. I am proud because I have each and every one of you, our God that was with us in 2015 is with us, so, there is no cause for alarm. We must go out there to talk to the people, we must go as one united family, we must go carrying everyone along and I believe that this is the principle of our party, let us continue to conduct our activities in peace,” he admonished.
Definitely, in few days time, we shall know the strategies the PDP will adopt for its campaign, but, one good thing is that the party has a saleable candidate, someone who has a lot of delivered programmes and projects in his kitty to campaign with.
May the best person with the heart to work more in the interest of the people continue to emerge in elections in the state, because, with such, it can only be better for the people.

VOTE IGBAKPA THE REFINED FIGHTER.

By Omonire Isaac Ovwigho

As the primaries approach, we should be up and doing as one people and one party to encourage free, fair and credible primaries to have their ways to enable us all come out of the primaries stronger and better. We should think inwardly to realize the fact that we need more than just vote a conscience. All we need is a vote for what is right and what is just, the choice of the people which can easily give us victory at the general elections.

The battle ahead is beyond more than just win primary election. We need dogged fighters who will fight ruthlessly and tirelessly to pick the PDP's flags and flag them for us.

There are some factors we should consider as a party before going for the primaries. Who will fight till the end and not just end his battle after primaries for PDP to fight it alone? Who has electoral value and the electorates? Who's more popular the people always chant his name and eager to vote for during the general elections? Those factors are what we need to look into the eyes of APC during the general elections. And Hon. Igbakpa has those factors.

Hon. Ben Igbakpa is a refined fighter we can rely on if honoured to fly PDP's flag from Ethiope Federal Constituency. He wouldn't abandon the battle for PDP to fight it all alone if honoured by PDP to flag its flag. Hon. Igbakpa has the political will and the ability to win at the general elections. He has the qualities, he has the zeal and the followers, and most importantly, Hon. Igbakpa has the electorates' supports. Wherever you enter in Ethiope Federal constituency all you hear from the Ethiopians being from Eku, Jesse, Okpara, Oghara, Abraka, Kokori, and other places, is Igbakpa. The Ethiope are with him and he's with them.

Vote Igbakpa the refined fighter.

Thank you.

Sebastine Okoh and His Infantile Ranting.

By Jonathan Onwuka.

The recent vituperation by Sebastine Okoh, APC House of Representatives aspirant in Ika Federal Constituency, against Governor Ifeanyi Okowa reeks of the highest form of arrogance and outright disrespect to the person of His Excellency, the Governor.

Does Okowa need Okoh to be voted for? Who is he compared to Okowa whose political sagacity has transcended state politics? Governor Okowa is a national political figure whose political and administrative exploits have been proven over the years, and keeps towering by the day.

Without mincing words, I boldly say that Mr Okoh, who obviously has a bloated impression of himself, does not deserve to have a place in public life because of his penchant to attack his superiors.

This political neophyte that can best be described as an over ambitious local champion who was under the privileged tutorship of Gov. Okowa but was not patient enough to learn, now compares himself to his former boss, who provided him with the platform from which he launched his inordinate ambition.

One wonders exactly what Okoh was trying to tell the people of Ika federal constituency by that outburst? That they should sacrifice the position of Governor for his selfish ambition, which has turned him into a desperate political actor? Does the guy think at all?

How many Ika people can Okoh empower with House of Reps position? How many roads can be built by being a legislator? Political interest sometimes demands that partisanship be sacrificed for the greater good of all.

I am not in any way saying that Okoh does not have the right to aspire to political office but attacking Governor Okowa should be condemned by well-meaning sons and daughters of Ika nation. Mr Okoh should know his limits.

He is obviously a novice in political engagements as he has shown with his recent unwarranted outburst.

Though it is the duty of the people of Ika federal constituency to decide who represents them at the Green Chamber, it should be a man who with a sense of decorum and political sagacity.

Who has ever heard Mr Okoh tell the people of Ika what he will do for them if given the opportunity to serve in the Green Chamber?

All he keeps saying is that he will empower the youth as if the job of law making is all about empowerment. It is obvious that Mr Okoh knows next to nothing about the business of legislation.

He should be the one pleading to be voted for alongside the doyen of Delta State politics, Gov. Okowa and not the other way round. A word is enough for the wise.

Delta Central Mega Rally, Indication Of Okowa’s Victory In 2019 –Fregene

By Vincent Anikwushe
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Relations, Hon. Jude Fregene, has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Delta Central Mega Political rally held recently at the Ughelli Township Stadium, Ughelli is not only an affirmation of PDP’s stronghold in the district but also a pointer to the victory of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and all PDP candidates in the district in 2019.
He made the submission while speaking with newsmen during the mega rally at Ughelli.
Hon. Fregene, a foremost and frontline disciple of Governor Okowa and a PDP stalwart in Ethiope West Local Government Area, described the mammoth crowd of party faithful and supporters that graced the historic event as unprecedented, saying that “this is an attestation that PDP is deeply and firmly rooted in Delta Central Senatorial District”.
According to him, the defection of no fewer than 5,000 (five thousand) members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta Central to the PDP at the mega rally is an eloquent testimony that PDP is a beautiful bride that is irrevocably committed to the wellbeing of the people.
He dismissed the National Chairman of APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole’s boast that APC will take over Delta State in 2019, describing it as an empty boast that does not hold water.
The Governor’s aide wondered how the APC that is not only in disarray but also disorganized and factionalized in the State will ever dream of taking over Delta State in 2019, adding that the All Progressives Congress that is bedeviled with disunity and crisis in the State and across the federation can never make any progress.
Hon. Fregene, who is also the Secretary, Forum of Delta Central Political Appointees and Admin Secretary, Delta Political Vanguard (DPV), Delta Central Chapter, maintained that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has performed excellently in all ramifications in the last three years in spite of limited resources, and as such deserve a second term in office to consolidate on his achievements in line with the SMART Agenda.
He stated categorically and emphatically that the people of Delta Central are solidly behind Governor Okowa’s re-election come 2019 as evident in the large turnout of people at the mega rally, adding that the Governor’s victory in 2019 is already a done deal.
He commended the leadership of the PDP in the State and Delta Central for their purposeful and effective leadership, describing the mega political rally as a huge success which has sent fears to the camps of opposition political parties in the district and the State in general.
Hon. Fregene, a grassroots politician and a man of the people, urged all PDP faithful and supporters across the State to remain resolute and steadfast and work assiduously as a formidable team for the return of Governor Okowa to the Government House, Asaba for more prosperity for all Deltans beyond 2019.

The Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Governor on Special Duties (Contributory Health Commission) and Director of Media and ICT, Vote Okowa Again 2019, Solomon Ebinum has described Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as the best candidate for the 2019 general election because of his devotion, loyalty and sagacity in serving the state.

He stated that Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, who is seeking re-election, has been an outstanding Governor for the past three years of his administration and should be resoundingly re-elected in 2019 for another 4 years.

In Delta state, we have two types of political parties- Achievers and Dreamers Political Parties. The Peoples Democratic Party are the achievers, working round the clock to win election while the opposition are the dreamers waiting for "manna to fall from heaven" , he adduced.

The people want Governor Ifeanyi Okowa again and the all encompassing support for him across the three senatorial district of the state has been massive, he said.

Governor ifeanyi Okowa’s acceptance by vast majority is a clear indication that he is the choice of God because the choice of majority of the people is the choice of God, he maintained.

Finally, he said that the governor is doing well and needs another mandate to accomplish his dream of a better Delta.

...Calls On International Communities To Sponsor Skill Acquisition Programmes For Nigerians

TO ensure a peaceful and more progressive country, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has called on the international community to engage in the sponsorship of training programmes for Nigerian youths in the area of skill acquisition.

Governor Okowa made the call today (13/09/18) when the Ambassador of the United States of America to Nigeria, Mr Stuart Symington paid him a courtesy visit in Asaba.

According to the governor, “we are giving hope to our youths because, we know that the more youths we take out of the streets, the more peace we will have and the more investment and development that can take place in the country.”

“It is important that the international community engage in the training of our youths in skill acquisition as it will go a long way to equip them to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country,” the governor said, adding, “we thank you (Ambassador of the USA) for contributing your quota in the training of some of our youths in agro-business; the state will partner with you to train more youths in agro-business; we are looking for more partners.”

He continued, “we thank the World Bank for contributing to the training of our youths through the SEEFOR; we are aware that a lot of jobs need to be done and a lot of youths need to be trained.”

“So far, as a state government, we have carried out three cycles of our job creation training; we monitor and mentor our trainees and we are glad to say that we have over 62 per cent success rates in our wealth creation programmes,” the governor disclosed.

He commended the Ambassador for visiting the state to find out the progress made in the training of beneficiaries of Presidential Amnesty programmes, expressing delight that the facilities used for the training would be useful in training more youths in the wealth creation programmes of his administration.
