PoliticsAvengers Twitter, Blog Accounts Suspended, Disabled by ufumes(op): 12:39am On Jul 05, 2016
THE Twitter handle @Niger Delta Avengers, used by rampaging militants, the Niger Delta Avengers, to announce their activities, has been suspended on Twitter.

A check on Monday morning revealed that authorities of the micro-blogging platform had suspended the account thus making it non-functional.

The dreaded militant group had always announced its activities through the medium.

In a series of tweets on Sunday morning, the group, through the handle, announced its attacks on oil facilities belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Chevron Nigeria Limited and Nigerian Petroleum Development Company.

At about 6am and 8am the account was still functioning when our correspondent checked it on Monday.

But later checks revealed that the account had been suspended.

The message on the social media platform read, “Account suspended! This account has been suspended. Learn more about why Twitter suspends accounts, or return <https://twitter.com/> to your timeline.”

The spokesman for the group, Mudoch Agbinibo, confirmed the suspension in a statement posted on a sister micro-blogging platform, Facebook.

He wrote, “Notice! This is to bring to your notice that our twitter handle @www.Twitter.com/@Niger Delta Avengers has been suspended and our blog @www.nigerdeltaavengers disabled.

“We use this medium to appeal to our fans and supporters to be very careful with any website or Twitter claiming to represent us. We shall launch new accounts soon! We must continue the struggle!!!”

Meanwhile, the Niger Delta Movement for Socio-Economy Inclusion has described the recent stakeholders’ security meeting organised by the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as failing to address key issues affecting the different ethnic nationalities in the state.

A statement signed by the group’s Chairman and Secreatry, Oki Ajonibode and Inama Ejoku respectively in Warri on Monday, lamented that the meeting attended by all the ethnic nationalities failed to address the insecurity and the issue of lawlessness of a particular group in the state.

The group said, “A situation whereby a particular ethnic group/nationality go into the land and environment of other ethnic group to blow pipelines and sometimes kill the people and burn their houses was not addressed in the stakeholders’ meeting.

“Every state has their peculiar problem, in Delta State what we see as our peculiar problem is the issue of ethnic groups going to destroy other ethnic nationalities without the state government looking into it.

“While government has visited Oporoza and Gbaramatu, up till date both the federal and state governments have not deemed it fit to visit other communities in these other ethnic nationalities to find out their poor state of health and living conditions especially with the fear of safety that is attached to these actions of our neighbours.”

“Clearing in this case (screening) entails only
the verification of certificates of the
candidates, JAMB scores, and any other
physical examination to ensure that such
candidates are not cultists. After this, the
candidates are qualified for matriculation.
Such screening should be at no cost to the
parents or students and should be done upon
resumption in order to avoid unnecessary
travels in search of admission”, the minister
said,
You should have defined what you meant by further screening from day 1

There has been no bomb attack in the state capital. The only military expedition that took place sometime last week was an operation undertaken by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to flush out criminals on the Cross River/Akwa Ibom waterways, which is far removed from towns and civilian population.”
