Ebonyi security man allegedly beats pupil to death

One of the security men drafted to work on the construction site of Ebonyi International Airport, at Onueke, in the Ezza South Local Government Area of the state, identified as Chukwuma Anyigor (aka Ite Igwe), has allegedly beaten a 17-year-old pupil, Miss Nwuka Nwafor, to death.

PUNCH Metro reports that the victim was a Senior Secondary School (class one) pupil at Izo High School, in the LGA, who usually engaged in menial jobs on the construction site during the weekends and holidays, to fend for herself and her family.

According to a worker at the site, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the trouble started when Anyigor instructed the victim to pack some corn husks which were dumped at a particular section of the ongoing constructed airport.

But it was gathered that the young girl, who, as gathered, neither ate any corn nor dropped its husks at the place, refused to comply with the directive.

The development, it was further learnt, angered Anyigor, who picked an object and hit her severally on the head before she fainted.

The source said, “On the sorrowful day, Miss Nwuka and one of her friends, were moving from one section of the airport to another in search of work until when they encountered Mr. Anyigor, who particularly directed the deceased to pack the waste which was dumped by someone else.

“But the girl, who could not figure out the reason behind such instruction refused to obey the command and Mr. Anyigor, who could not control his anger, started to beat the girl until she fainted.”

The deceased’s elder brother, Sunday Nwafor, said Nwuka was rushed to the General Hospital, Onueke, and later to the Alex Ekwueme University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, where she was confirmed dead by medical doctors.

Another Nwuka’s siblings, Ekene Nwafor on behalf of the family, called on the authorities to bring the suspect to justice.

“It actually happened on August 29. My sister did not commit any offence unless it has become an offence to fend for oneself. So, Nwuka died struggling to survive and she deserves justice. As a family, we demand for justice.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chris Anyanwu, on Wednesday, said the matter had not been officially brought to his table, promising to send a statement as soon as he gathered details.

However, PUNCH Metro learnt that the accused was immediately arrested and later handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department at the Ebonyi State Police Command, Abakaliki.

Armed robbers on Tuesday attacked some commercial banks in Ankpa, Kogi State.

IDOMA VOICE reports that the heavily armed men stormed the banks around 3pm on Tuesday and operated for hours without security personnel in sight to confront them.

Among the top banks hit by the gunmen were Zenith Bank and First Bank.

At the moment, IDOMA VOICE could not ascertain if any life was lost in the attack.

However, video clips obtained by this reporter showed that the robber blew off the security doors of the commercial banks before gaining access to the banks.

My wife's cousin is a student in a federal government institution, a monotechnic. I've always noted that the guy is naughty. Recently my wife told me the guy is having issues in his school because he approached his supervisor, a single female lecturer for a relationship. The lecturer warned him to perish the thought but this guy persisted.

Now the female lecturer has refused to continue with supervision of his project and wrote to her head of department to assign him to another supervisor. He just started afresh with a new supervisor while his colleagues have defended their projects two weeks ago.

He called my wife this evening to tell her that final results of his colleagues have been uploaded into the institutions portal while his name was placed under "non-graduating".

I have some questions here.

1. Did this guy commit any offense by "toasting" his female lecturer?

2. Is it right for the department to have denied him opportunity to graduate because of this?

3. Can he complain to the authority of the institution about this? What will he say he did to have been denied opportunity to graduate?

4. Has the department committed any offence against this boy as touching his fundamental human rights?

5. Can he seek legal redress?

By bank transfer. What I don’t know is if it applies to all airlines. My friend used airfrance and airfrance has zenith bank as a bank you can use for payment.

Their rate is 444 so you convert the total amount issued by the airline in dollars using N444 to a dollar and transfer that amount to the airline then they issue you your ticket.

You might want to check with the airline if the accept Naira. I know Air France does. Qatar already have theirs in Naira

Modified- let me elaborate; Air France has the option to pay by local debit card/ bank transfer or deposit I.e. you can deposit the cash in their zenith bank account. Air France has a zenith bank account.

My friend also has a zenith bank account but this is not to say you cannot pay into Air France’s account because you don’t have a zenith bank account. You can either deposit or transfer to them however whatever bank you’re using, you need to confirm what their rate is( I believe the rate should be uniform) but to be on the safe side, confirm first.

Zenith bank converts dollars to Naira for air ticket (airfrance) at N444 to a dollar.
