RE: 2019 Campaign Poster of Shettima and Okorocha Surfaces in Abuja

My attention has been drawn to the above fabricated story being maliciously circulated on social media. It is regrettable that few selfish individuals who are expected to show strong patriotism by thinking positively and supporting the nation at this critical dire economic times are busy formulating destructive messages against Gov. Rochas Okorocha whose prominence as Chairman Progressive Governors Forum and critical stakeholder in this Change regime has given them sleepness nights.

It is important to remind the sponsors of such malicious and libelous stories that the Executive Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Dr. Rochas Okorocha, while interracting with top media practitioners from South East recently stated it clearly that he will not be contesting for the 2019 presidential election. The governor said that the president, Muhammadu Buhari is doing well, and so deserves maximum support for a second term as president in order to continue this rare national tranformation.

Governor Okorocha is a leader who believes in selfless service shown by rendering quality leadership to the nation to shore up the economy and welfare of Nigerians, and the integrity of the country as an entity before the comity of nations. Undoubtedly, President Muhammadu Buhari has shown such strong will backed up by actions, and Governor Okorocha is fully in support of him.

In as much as we are not taken aback at this malicious propaganda targeted at creating enemity and disaffection between the president and the governor, we are however disappointed. It is on record that the governor has been widely applauded for his great developmental projects in the state among which is the first Imo fly-over to be commissioned soon, many road projects, 27 general hospitals, etc, so we are aware that this is simply the handiwork of unrepentant detractors who are bent on destroying the society through their unpatriotic activities as this.

The Governor of Imo State; Owelle Rochas Okorocha, the Rescue Mission Government disassociate themselves from the poster and its content circulating on the social media as neither from the governor nor any one from known to him but the handiwork of detractors.

EducationFacts To Know About Imsu ASUU Strike by ujoatu(op): 11:06pm On May 13, 2016
FACT ABOUT IMSU ASUU STRIKE AND WHY ASUU SHOULD CALL - OFF THEIR STRIKE

ASUU DEMANDS
-
NEW SALARY STRUCTURE
- PAYMENT OF SALARY
- PAYMENT OF OUTSTANDING ALLOWANCES

FACTS TO CONSIDER

1. THE STATE GOVERNMENT IN 2011 INCREASED THE MONTHLY SUBVENTION FROM 56.7 MILLION TO 295 MILLION.

2. THE STATE GOVERNMENT HAS PAID THE ACADEMIC AND NON ACADEMIC STAFF OF IMSU THEIR SALARIES UP TO MARCH 2016.

3. IMSU STAFF ARE ONLY OWED APRIL SALARIES AS AT TODAY.

4. THE STATE GOVERNMENT INHERITED
ABOUT 800 MILLION NAIRA DEBT TO STAFF OF IMSU WHICH HAS BEEN CLEARED

5. THE STATE GOVERNMENT ALSO INHERITED ALLOWANCES OF OVER A BILLION NAIRA AND HAS PAID UP TO 70% WITH A PROMISE TO CLEARED ALL ONCE THE ECONOMY IMPROVES

IMO ECONOMY TODAY
1. PRIOR TO THE FALL OF CRUDE OIL IN THE INTERNATIONAL MARKET, IMO RECEIVED ABOUT 4 BILLION NAIRA MONTHLY BUT SINCE MID 2015 TILL DATE, THE STATE NOW GETS AN AVERAGE OF 1.5 BILLION NAIRA. IMO IGR IS LESS THAN 400 MILLION NAIRA MONTHLY.

IMSU IGR:
THE STATE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT INTERFER WITH THE INTERNALLY GENERATED REVENUE OF IMO STATE UNIVERSITY. THE REVENUE SOURCES ARE FROM THE FOLLOWING:
- PRE-DEGREE
- ICEP
- POST GRADUATE PROGRAMS (PGD, M.Sc, PhD)
- SCHOOL FEES FROM NON INDIGENES AMONGST OTHER SOURCES

THE ISSUE AT STAKE.

IT HAS BEEN ALLEGED THAT THE PRIMARY AIM OF THIS STRIKE ACTION IS TO STOP THE FREE EDUCATION POLICY OF THE STATE GOVERNMENT. BUT THE STAFF HAVE TO REALISE THAT THE INCREASED SUBVENTION FROM 56.7 MILLION TO ALMOST 300 MILLION IS TUITION INCLUSIVE THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BEING THAT THE STATE GOVERNMENT BEARS THE BURDEN.

Our people have a warped notion of what oppsition should be. It doesn't mean enemity, blackmailing, propaganda. You can appreciate a government even as opposition and criticize areas that are not ok proffering solutions. But outright lies, fabrication and condemnation will NEVER fetch your chosen party the Guber seat

GOVERNOR ROCHAS OKOROCHA SAYS HE WON’T RUN FOR PRESIDENCY IN 2019 BECAUSE OF PRESIDENT BUHARI

Governor of Imo State and the chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Governors’ Forum, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has said that he won’t contest the 2019 presidential election because of President Mohammadu Buhari, adding that the President has so far shown leadership and should be encouraged to that effect.

Governor Okorocha had spoken weekend while answering questions from senior media practitioners who he had conducted around some of the key projects of his administration stressing that his long-time desire for the presidency of the country has been to provide the much needed leadership, and said since President Buhari has shown that kind of courageous, visionary and people-oriented leadership, the best bet for him at the moment is to encourage and support him to continue beyond 2019.

He continued, “Yes, I have been running for the presidency of this great nation until God said I should settle for the Imo governorship. And that passion to become the president of the country is not just borne out of the thirst for the position, but had arisen out of the eagerness to offer the nation and her people a strong leadership, the essence would be to build a nation of our collective dreams and aspirations.”

He further remarked “President Buhari came in almost one year now and within the one year, Nigeria has once again got the doors of the rest of the world opened for her. He has shown courage, confidence, maturity and strong leadership. There is now high feelings of leadership in the country.

According to him, “what the President therefore needs in the circumstance is to be supported and encouraged to continue the good work even after 2019. For that reason, I have decided to keep my presidential ambition aside. It is also believed that others with such ambition would also want President Buhari to be given the required support to continue the good job, to a very large extent.”

Governor Okorocha also urged the media personnel in the project tour to also appreciate what President Buhari is doing for the nation at the moment by backing his policies and programmes in the overall interest of the nation, noting that the President has so far shown quality leadership.

The Imo Governor said, “God loves this country, and had also shown such love by making it possible for Buhari to emerge as President, because if the PDP had been allowed to continue in power beyond 2015, the nation and her people would have been in for it by now.

He urged Nigerians to continue to pray for the president.
