A court has permitted the Action Alliance (AA) to open its certificate forgery allegations suit against the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

Hearing in the matter could not go on as scheduled following an application by one Adekunle Omo-Aje and his group claiming leadership of the AA party and also insisting they did not engage any legal practitioner to institute the suit against Tinubu.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court, Abuja had in August, fixed October 12 for commencement of hearing shortly after ordering parties to exchange their briefs of arguments in the case. However, at the next adjourned date, Omo-Aje and his faction had asked to be joined as a defendant in the suit filed by the AA.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed says his ministry is in a very bad and difficult situation with the meagre fund allocated to it in the 2023 budget proposal.
The minister raised the alarm on Tuesday in Abuja when he appeared before the Senate Committee on Information and National Orientation to defend the 2023 budget proposal.
He said while he was complaining that the N1.072 billion capital expenditure allocated to the information sector of his ministry in the 2022 budget was inadequate, it was slashed to a meagre N345.64 million in the 2023 budget proposal.

A federal high court in Umuahia, Abia state, has ordered the federal government to return Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to Kenya.
Kanu was extradited from the East African country to Nigeria in June 2021.
The court also ordered the government to pay Kanu N500 million as damages for his illegal abduction and violation of his fundamental human rights.

Hisbah (Islamic moral police) in Kano State say they have impounded three vehicles laden with 5,800 bottles of beer.

Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Dr Harun Ibn-Sina, made assertion on Monday in Kano while inspecting the impounded vehicles at the Hisbah office.

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to “direct the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Mr Abubakar Malami, SAN, and appropriate anti-corruption agencies to promptly and thoroughly investigate the spending of Ecological Fund by governments at all levels—federal, state and local governments from 2001 to date.”

SERAP said, “Suspected perpetrators of corruption and mismanagement should face prosecution as appropriate, if there is sufficient admissible evidence, and any missing public funds should be fully recovered.”

SERAP’s letter followed reports that the ravaging flooding in some parts of the country has resulted in the loss of over 600 lives, displacement of more than a million persons, and destruction of properties worth billions. The most affected states include Anambra, Delta, Kogi, Rivers, Benue, Yobe, Cross River and Bayelsa.

A new photograph of Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has emerged, where he wore an inner device believed to be a ‘catheter bag’ to expel urine, further raising questions about his frail health status, ahead of the 2023 general election.

A catheter is a device that collects urine into a drainage bag through an attached tube. It is typically used by people who cannot naturally pass urine.

The DSS’ allegation forms part of an affidavit presented before a Federal High Court, Abuja, to secure the court’s permission to keep Mamu in custody, pending the conclusion of investigation.

According to the agency, Mamu who had negotiated the release of some victims kidnapped during the Abuja -Kaduna train attack by terrorists, was arrested on his way to an international terrorist summit in Egypt.

In the affidavit in support of its ex-parte application marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/1617/2022, the DSS begged the court to allow it keep Mamu for further investigation because it has established act of terrorism financing against him.

Following the submission, Justice Nkeonye Maha, of the Federal High Court, Abuja, ordered that Mamu be detained for the next 60 days, adding that if not done with its investigation within the period, the agency can come back to the court to renew the detention order.
