China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has already surpassed the U.S. in missile development and its number of warships and air defense systems under the Chinese Communist Party’s plan to achieve dominance by 2049, the Defense Department said in a sobering report Tuesday.

The ultimate goal of the People’s Republic of China, or PRC, is to “develop a military by mid-Century that is equal to — or in some cases superior to — the U.S. military, or that of any other great power that the PRC views as a threat,” the DoD’s annual report to Congress said.

To that end, the PRC has “marshalled the resources, technology, and political will over the past two decades to strengthen and modernize the PLA in nearly every respect,” the report said.

The Enugu Command of the Nigeria Police Force on Sunday confirmed the attack on their men on checkpoints and carting away of their arms by hoodlums Friday night.

It was gathered that patrol team from the Railway police under the Railway Area Command were at a checkpoint at Railway-line near the popular Ogbete Main Market when the hoodlums attacked them with machetes and took away their weapons and set their patrol van ablaze.

Our correspondent reports that the attack came five days after a police checkpoint at Owelle Court, Awgu local government area of the state was attacked and the guns of the policemen collected and injuring one.

Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno on Thursday inaugurated the Tukur Buratai Institute for War and Peace built as part of the concerted efforts to overcome the challenges of insurgency in the Northeast.

Speaking at the event, Zulum lauded the foresight of the Nigerian Army in building the institute, located in Buratai, Biu Local Government Area of the state.

He regretted that the insurgency had “inflicted debilitating impact” on the state and the neighbouring countries of Niger, Chad and Cameroon.

He said: “Our dear state is the worst affected with many citizens still in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps.

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, on Thursday warned that he would use the rule of law to ensure that any Fulani herdsman who dared to come to the state for vigilante group was jailed.

Recall that the Fulani organisation, Miyeitti Allah Kauta Hore, had at a press conference in Abuja recently, vowed to establish vigilante group in all states of federation to combat insecurity.

In his response to this, Ortom through his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, warned the Fulani organisation not to come to his state, adding that their motive was to carry their heinous activities to another level.

The association, while also reacting to the statement, threatened to drag the governor and Benue State to court unless he retracted the statement

But Ortom, while speaking with journalists on Thursday, said, “No Fulani group will come to Benue State where I’m the governor; you people know that it is a lie, they cannot come.

“No room for vigilante group in whatever kind. When I confronted them, they said they would not use vigilante group of Nigeria. That one will not operate here.

“We have our own vigilante that operates here; we have community policing in which we are recruiting now and livestock guard that take care of herdsmen in active support with security men.

“So no single vigilante group of Miyeitti Allah will come to Benue State to make any noise here. For us in Benue State, we believe in the rule of law an we will jail them.”

The petitioners revealed properties which belonged to the Lagos State Government allegedly diverted by Tinubu, among other weighty allegations.

According to the group, Tinubu and Fashola own the Golf Course and Housing Estate located at Lakowe near Ibaju Lekki Government. It claimed that the estate was developed by Asset and Resource Management Limited at N75 billion on 1,000 hectares of land.

The group claimed that, “14-hectare Parkview Ikoyi Estate foreshore land reclaimed by Lagos State Government currently belongs to Tinubu,” adding that the annex of Lagos State Guest House in Asokoro Abuja, purchased by the Lagos State Government in 2006 for N450 million, had been transferred to Tinubu.

The petitioners claimed that Tinubu allegedly allocated Strabag Yard land, near Lagos State Secretariat at Alausa, to himself and developed a huge shopping mall on it.

The group alleged that the former Lagos State Governor’s Guest House located at No. 41 Oyinkan Abayomi, was transferred to Tinubu shortly after Fashola assumed office in 2007.

“Tinubu took over the prime land of 157 hectares with 2.5km of Atlantic beach front at N10 billion from the communities of Siriwon, Igbekodo, Apakin etc in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government and given to his crony, Ibukun Fakeye, to erect a gulf house and luxury villa with little or nor compensation to the villagers. Furthermore, he paid $20 million (N3 billion) out of public treasury to Ibukun Fakeye for commencement of the project in late 2006 coupled with release of additional funding for the project by Fashola and not owned by Lagos State government.”

Who does Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara thinks he is fooling?

His decision to exit the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] for the All Progressive Congress [APC] could not have come at a more convenient time. A time when the current Speaker of the House of Representative Rt. Hon. Olufemi Hakeem Gbajabiamila mandated the Federal Minister of Niger Delta Affair to put his mouth where his money is – and produce the names of the supposed federal lawmakers who were recipients of the Niger Delta Development Commission [NDDC] contract bonanza and related fraud.

Just when the Minister, Senator Godswill Akpabio responded that the recipients were not the members of the current House of Representatives but the members of the previous House of Representative under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Yabuku Dogara - Dogara woke up and discovered the corrupt nature of PDP in Bauchi State – and the pristineness of the APC. He suddenly came to realization he no longer wants a part of it.
Who does he expect to believe the tale he just discovered after more than one year the Government of Bauchi State is corrupt? After partaking in the unholy communion? Who is fooling who? And, who is gullible enough to believe the fairy tale?

The Cambridge dictionary defines a hypocrite as “someone who says they have particular moral beliefs but behaves in way that shows these are not sincere”. And, defines a coward as “a person who is not brave and is too eager to avoid danger, difficulty, or pain”.
If only the Nigerian public knew the Economic & Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC] was hot on his trail and had pulled his files, it would be clearer to understand the predicament Dogara finds himself.

The EFCC had begun investigating his activities while at the Green Chamber – and had concluded on its findings. To arrest the former Speaker was the next move. Dogara was faced with arrest and prosecution – in the same manner Senator Godswill Akpabio was faced with arrest prior to his shameful exit. Like Akpabio, Dogara flipped the switch and crossed over for the political cleaners where his sins will be forever forgiven – and amnesty granted, at the APC.

In Akpabio’s case, he was rewarded for his crossover, and for the synthetically manufactured battle he waged against the Governor of Akwa Ibom – the PDP Governor who took over the Governor’s seat after his exit. He was awarded a ministerial position in return.

In the case of Dogara, the play cards are the same. Off the bat, following his crossover, he launched his version of a synthetically manufactured battle against the PDP Governor of Bauchi State – detailing what he termed as corruption with the Bala Mohammed administration. An administration that has won accolades beyond the boundaries of Bauchi Stare as worthy of emulation. One that has revamped the educational infrastructure within the span of 12months by adding over 350 classroom blocks across the wards that makeup the State. Has achieved the erection of world standard molecular laboratory for the testing of Covid19 that presently serves four neighboring States at over 300 samples daily. Road construction networks in proportions never witnessed in the history of the State – including water treatment plants to accommodate the increase in population due to migration of IDPs.

The question then becomes what is really Dogara’s agenda? It cannot be Bala Mohammed or his administration.
Apart from freeing himself from the grips of the EFCC. He maybe positioning for the Vice President position against the 2023 presidential elections or a Ministerial position.
As a coward battling out of the fear of possible prosecution, it is evident he has sold his rights and integrity to the drowning APC. A vomit he excreted. With which face will he face his former colleagues whom he lampooned when he defected from the APC to the PDP?

After labelling the APC, the party of corruption, he has returned to the party of corruption. Now, he sees the PDP as the party of corruption. Who is he fooling? And to imagine he was the number four citizen of the country for 4years defines the trouble with governance in Nigeria.

“What happened to the N4.6 billion loan taken from a bank and paid directly into a private company's account?” – was one of the questions Dogara wanted answered. He claimed it led to his decision to exit the party.

Dogara, himself, knows firsthand the truth behind the non-existent loan. But he is earger to play dirty. He wants to play ostrich. Dogara knows the Bauchi Government never secured any N4.6billion loan.

The supposed N4.6billion concerns a legitimate contract awarded to a contractor for the purchase of vehicles for the government. The Bauchi State government, as most clever state governments do, issued the contractor an Irrevocable Standing Purchase Order [ISPO] – which in layman’s term means the Bauchi State government reached an agreement for the contractor to be paid in monthly installments through automatic deductions from the government’s bank account. Armed with the ISPO, the contractor approached a financial institution and presented the ISPO as a collateral to secure a loan. The contractor was awarded the loan – and the vehicles were delivered.

Dogara puzzlingly called simple transaction a loan in an open letter released to the public.

And to know that Dogara was among the recipients of the vehicles is disheartening and exposes his hypocrisy. He collected a Toyota Land Cruiser. Yes, he even wrote a thank you letter to the State government acknowledging the receipt of the vehicle.

Dogara’s defection back to the APC may not be his last defection. It should be understood Dogara left the PDP for his personal gains and not for the benefit of good governance. The fear of EFCC prosecution and/or persecution propelled his exit [cowardice] – but to author a letter depicting the government of Bauchi as corrupt is weak and unnecessary.

The Atyap Community Development Association (ACDA) on Wednesday described the setting up of white paper drafting committee on panels’ reports of Zangon Kataf crises of 1992 and 1995 by Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai of Kaduna State as suspicious, saying almost all the recommendations of both the Justice Rahila Cudjoe and AVM Usman Mu’azu panels have either been fully implemented or overtaken by events.

In a statement issued by the Secretary-General of the group, Mr. Sule Tinat Bodam, the Atyap ethnic nationality accused el-Rufa’s spokesman, Mr Muyiwa Adekeye, of intentionally engaging in falsehood with the sole intention of misleading the general public on both reports.

Faulting Adekeye who falsely claimed that recommendations of both panels “have not received comprehensive response or attention” as no white paper was drafted, the ACDA discredited such an assertion as a blatant falsehood, saying while the non-drafting of the white paper “could apply to the Cudjoe Commission, it is not true that a White Paper was not produced on the AVM Mu’azu Committee report. The evidence for the existence of a White Paper on the Mu’azu Committee Report is in a Press Release by the Office of the Executive Governor of Kaduna State of Nigeria, Ref. No. GH/KD/S/315, dated 4th July 2000, where the then governor stated that his administration was going to faithfully and equitably implement the contents of the White Paper. That White Paper is available in Government House Kaduna, and we ask the Government of Governor Nasir Ahmad El Rufai to make the original White Paper on the AVM Usman Mu’azu Reconciliation Committee public without tampering with the contents.”
